Yes, you are wrong Dozy.
You only are entitled to stat paternity pay, if worked there 26 weeks by time .... and it is only £117. Crap.
Lucky those in good company's.

Whay are you starting to doubt that it is a dd ? God hopefully you won't need another scan for confirmation.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/07/2008 11:30

Statutory Paternity pay is the same as the basic rate of SMP (£112 ish a week), for two weeks which can be taken together or apart any time after the birth (I think there is a time limit, but not sure what it is). Dads are only elligible if they were effectively working for the company at the time of conception. Some companies have company paternity pay (and will pay regardless of whether length of employment applies), like one or two weeks full pay, but like with maternity pay, it's entirely discretionary whether they choose to do so or not. DH's company only gives SPP, which we can't afford (and lets face it, who can?), so he will be taking two weeks holiday instead. When i had DD, he hadn't been there long enough anyway, so did two weeks holiday and worked from home for two weeks so he was around for a month.

I think the government should pay for them all to have two weeks fully paid, regardless of length of service.

I am I really didn't know that and think it is a damn disgrace that the government don't allow this for father's.......we are very fotunate in that DH also works for a newspaper and gets 2 weeks at full pay........at least I think he does

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 11:37

Dozymare - this is the 2nd time i have typed this as my internet connection died posting it!

Do you really NEED to know baby's flavour? If so then tell DH how stressful it is not being sure and it isnt good for you or baby so you need a 3d/4d scan to be 100% (cant remember name baby taking brain power) . But if you think you can be careful what you buy and keep the receipts for what you have got then WAIT. If it was me I would not have a "NORMAL" scan because there is still the doubt but the "FANCY" scans show you.

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 11:39

Is it a 3d or 4d scan? Any good places anyone knows of Rotherham/Sheffield way? dozymare has got me intrigued now as to my baby's flavour!

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 11:48

paternity pay & leave - completely agree with you ladies that paternity pay is rubbish.

I think that paternity pay should be the same amount as maternity pay of 90% wage for the two weeks of leave. If leave and pay was available to employees who have at least been with the company say 3 months I think that would be fair. Saying regardless of service could be unfair to employers if a person has just joined the company then goes off on leave.

ChocOrange05 · 16/07/2008 11:49

Just to make us all of our European counterparts - in Germany women get 1 year off at 66% of their salary (and jobs kept open for 3 years) and men can take 1 year off and the government pay them 65% of their salary!! I think our government needs to take a leaf out of ze Germans book.

I also read somewhere (IRL or in a dream!) that paternity leave was being increased to 1 month but I don't think that kicks in for when our LO's are born??

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 11:54

Dozymares dh thinks she is ricky-doo-dil-ous for doubting that she has a dd, in her womb.
And for wanting another scan.
Now ladies, what do we think ?
Tee hee.
Do we agree with her dh.
Or do we think Dozy is being rational ?
Lets have a vote

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 11:56

vbab I was just going to go for a gender scan (but if it is not 100% there is no point) when I had my 20 week scan, the sonographer said she couldn't see any boys bits present but couldn't say 100% it was a girl.....now after my BF saying what she has, I am totally PG!

Yes I NEED to know!!!!!!!!!!! Having 2 DS's already I am totally geared up for a little girl and will be so upset if at delivery it is another boy (although of course a healthy baby is the objective, I do have a preference having 2 of one flavour already!)

Now, if I can get 100% confirmation that will be fantastic. However,w as going to opt for a £69 gender scan at babybond..do you think this wouldn't b e 100% and would need to opt for 3 or 4d??

DM

ChocOrange05 · 16/07/2008 12:00

Dozy as far as I know they can never be 100% sure with a girl anyway as it could be a very shy boy so a private scan might not help.

Do I think you are being rational - well I think we are allowed to be as rational or irrational as we like in our conditions. Its the only time we can really get away with it!

Dozymare · 16/07/2008 12:04

i am being paranoid aren't I? [paranoid emotion}

Pinkali37 · 16/07/2008 12:04

My sister got told that 80% it is a girl. What a percentage to put on it!!!

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 12:08

No scan Is 100%
Don't they only committ to 80%
I think you need to phone the clinic, ask about the gender scan and ask them what % they think they will be able to offer.

ChocOrange05 · 16/07/2008 12:08

The baby gender quiz I did online said I had a 50% chance of having a boy. No, REALLY!?!? [shocked emoticon]

dozy - YOU HAVE GOT ME WANTING TO FIND OUT NOW! If I had any scan done I think I would push to a 4d scan.

Are 4d scan's 100% for finding out flavour?

mum2becks · 16/07/2008 12:24

dozy I dont think you are being irrational at all, if you want to know then you want to know!!

A couple of my friends recently were told they were expecting girls, 1 was told 80% it was a girl and it was, the other was told it was a girl (wasnt told a %) and it turned out to be a boy!! but it was her first so she didnt mind either way!

If you didnt mind then I would say wait and see but if you really need to get used to it being girl or boy then I think its worth checking again!!

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 12:26

Every 3 in 100 is wrong.
Thats not bad stats then .

ChocOrange05 · 16/07/2008 12:27

Does everyone like the look of those 4D scans?? From pictures I have seen they look a bit scary.

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 12:31

Dozy is not irrational for wanting to know.
That was NOT what I was trying to say.
We can ALL understand that.
I think, that her dh thinks, that she is a bit mad, to start doubting the sonographers prediction.
Have I got that right ?

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 12:31

just turned into a crying, emotional mess just because I phoned DH about the 4d scans all excited and didn't even get chance to speak because he is busy at work followed by phone being put down. STUPID, STUPID WOMAN and these irrational emotions.

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 12:34

even worse I'm at work!

Oblomov · 16/07/2008 12:34

oh dear, emotions are running high.
Vbab, are you o.k. ?
Dozy, has your bf just scared you ? Or do you have a gut instinct that it really is a boy ? Or is it just that the desire for dd is so strong, that you FEAR that they are wrong ? Explain more.

Yorky · 16/07/2008 12:44

Hugs for vbab, at least when I go hormonal theres only to DS to wonder what is it this time!
The difference I think between 3 and 4D scans is that the 4th dimension is time, so do they video it for you? I know what you mean about the 3D pics being a bit scary - but at least they look more like a face than the hospital ones ChocO

vbab78 · 16/07/2008 12:45

ok but cant seem to pull myself out of this upset mood now. thanks oblomov . I know it is stupid but it's how I feel. I've always tended to be ruled by emotions but being pregnant just seems to made it worse.
