Good luck at the hospital VG.
That biscuit crowd are mad ... And I thought Joyce scholars were prone to overthinking stuff! (Once went out to a restaurant with some who spent 10 minutes dissecting my dislike of chocolate icecream).

Found this and thought I'd share it....

What does it mean when my doctor says the baby is engaged?
By : Sophia Levis

Engagement or "lightening" is the movement of your baby down into the pelvis that occurs toward the end of your pregnancy. This lowering of the baby into the pelvis typically occurs prior to labor, although for some women the baby will not engage until the very start of labor. The baby is considered engaged when the head has dropped below the pelvic bone.

When the baby begins to drop, you will notice that your abdomen will change shape, shifting down and forward. Your abdomen may even seem smaller, as the head of the baby enters the birth canal. This position creates increased pressure on your bladder, causing the need to urinate more frequently. You may also feel aches or pains in your pelvic joints and perineum as well. You may be able to breathe more easily after the baby drops, as there is now more room in your upper abdomen for your lungs to expand.

Engagement is measured in "stations", indicating exactly where the crown of the baby's head is in relation to the pelvic bone. When the crown of the baby's head is right at your pelvic bone, the baby is at 0 station, also called "fully engaged."

HOORAY!! This confirms my baby's head is engaged since I'm -2 station.

OP posts:
AnnVan · 08/07/2008 18:06

TS, I think the reason we don't get your stations, is cos here, they refer to fiths of the babies head - so you can be four fifths engaged. I think it means the same thing though. Are you having vaginal birth or section?

Waves Hi to Ma100

Buckets · 08/07/2008 18:24

Hi Mal00, I LOVE Lorenzo! Are you after Lenny as a nickname?

VG Fingers crossed for you.

Sazzles and Dizzy - good news on the being-taken-seriously-front for both of you.

Is anyone else really irritable with their kids by teatime? DH got DD a tamagotchi yesterday, she is 5 and has no clue so has been badgering me since hometime. Basically the little tamagotchi creatures are going to be my babies to look after aren't they? It's like your child being given a puppy without your consent!

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:26

good grief I go out to collect dd1 from gymnastics and miss all the biscuit chat?!?!? maybe just as well though - would someone at least let me SNIFF their Jaffa cake please [begging eoticon!!]

VG am hoping you're getting lumps kicked out of you enroute to the hosp to put your mind at ease

and btw - what do you mean IF you meet one of us in real life, next time I'm stuffingmyface admiring Avoca you'd better be there to meet me

poppy yes it was the very man, he DOES exist in the flesh - although bears an unfortunate resemblence to my dad which is never good when its someone who could be potentially rummaging up your fango [aarrgghhhhhhhhh]

hoping you've had a lovely last day at work and cherished walking out the door for the last time for a very very long time!

thank you all for congrats on blood sugars - am feeling very virtious about it. It hasn't been too hard to be honest, the thought of a 16lb baby is quite an incentive and also I find things easier to do when I have a very very good reason to be doing them - when I fell pregnant the first time before dd1 I quit smoking instantly, I sadly miscarried but never went back to the smoking does that make sense?!

hi Ma100 and welcome to the thread

ts at queen of names, am not feeling any pressure to come up with a mn for you now lol

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 18:26

AnnVan, that sure does sound like the same thing. I was just feeling bad for spouting alien stats so looked for something that might make more sense. Having had a breech/transverse baby for so much of this pregnancy, knowing the baby is head down and engaged gives me something to dance around about IYKWIM. At the present moment looks like I'll be having another VB but I'm entirely flexible to CSec if it is necessary. To me it's whatever is best for the baby.

I know Kegels are tops on the list these days but is everyone getting enough H2O as well. Keeping well hydrated is key. If you don't you could cause yourself to go into false labor (learned that one the hard way).

OP posts:
Buckets · 08/07/2008 18:27

Oh and different MWs write down the engagement differently - "3/5" could mean 3/5 of the baby's head palpated (ie 3/5 not engaged) or 3/5 engaged (ie 2/5 palpated.)

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:27

buckets am lucky if I get to 3pm without wanting to throttle them atm

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:34

Reese Julia *
Reese Olivia *
Reese Emily *
Reese Magdalena *
Reese Lillith *
Reese Cecelia *
Reese Celeste *
Reese Serena *
Reese Kitty *
Reese Honor *
Reese Jennifer * TS I think I agree with the girls that it has to be a longer name to balance out Reese being 1 syllable and your 2 syllable surname

will keep thinking

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 18:39

Buckets, I think I ran across something that looked like that in my "light" reading. It confused me because the way it was described (if I remember this correctly) is the number means the opposite....or something like that. I guess I just didn't connect the two ways of documenting as being for the same thing.

OH and my DD has been on vacation from school for 7 weeks or so now....she's driving me blooming mad. So yes, DC IRRITATION LEVEL is at it's MAXIMUM presently.

Dizzy, no pressure dear. Just raving about your skills. High Five on the smoking issue...best you got knocked up...your health is loads better for it.

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:42

Reese Susannah *
Reese Susanne *
Reese Abigail *
Reese Lauren *
Reese Elizabeth *
Reese Bethany *
Reese Eloise ** (possibly too many 's')
Reese Penelope *
Reese Annabel *
Reese Isabella *
Reese Alexandra *
Reese Nicole *
Reese Meredith *

think from last list would change Honor to Reese Honora *

Reese Harriet *
Reese Martha *

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:46

right TS there are some starters - let me know what your likes/dislikes are as I've flung in a few different types of names - no offence with any comment made at all

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 18:47

Pulling these to chat with DH about later:
Honor
Penelope
Isabella
Nicole

I've actually been pushing Alexandra already.

I'm thinking three syl or 4 syl is the route I need to take, considering our surname. However, I failed to do the syl thing correctly with DD...Kinsley Grayson (all 2 syl).

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:48

Reese Matilda
Reese Mattia
Reese Alice
Reese Amelia - loving that one actually

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:50

I think my favourites are

Reese Amelia *
Reese Alexandra *
Reese Luisa *
Reese Isabella *
Reese Honora *

I think a longer name ending in 'a' lends itself very well to Reese and your last name ending in an 's' (hope you doing mind me mentioning that)

will no doubt think of more whilst bathing the girls

dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:51

if he's not keen on the length of Alexandra alternative is Alexia

Reese Alexia *

right enough - sorry to those who have chosen a name or are having a boy

TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 18:52

I don't think anyone will figure out who I really am by mentioning the last letter of my name.

Have you considered Angela for your LO? Sounds nice to me when said with your other girls' names.

OP posts:
TwilightSurfer · 08/07/2008 18:54

Alexa, Lexi...and all forms of Alexandria are on my personal list.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 08/07/2008 18:54

it IS nice but I don't want another 'A' initial - see am a naming freak

my girls are currently wrestling on the hardwood floor so its going between roars of laughter to floods of tears at the moment in here

7 minutes till bath time and counting - dh is on late shift tonight so am planning feet up and some quality MN time, has been sadly lacking recently lol

what about Claudia?

Claudia is my late mother's name. I would love to use but my little brother beat me to it, nameing his youngest Emma Claudia.
