misdee · 03/07/2008 16:53

Daisy, dh keeps saying if this oneis a girl he wants to call it Venus. as we already have a Serena, and would be nice to have a matching pair!

lackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2008 16:56

on alcohol from kellymom the font of all Bfing knowledge.

The odd glass of wine or two will not hurt, but obviously drinking lots and BFing simultaneously is a no no. On the recent course I did they said there is definaltey no need to abstain and no need to pump and dump...that was run by the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers, one of the big four organisations

lackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2008 16:58

I like Venus misdee...and Serena is a lovely name

I want a scottish name, like DSs, but DH not keen on the available choices......Angus, Hamish, Duncan.

dyerlou · 03/07/2008 16:58

Yeah Kai can be spelt that way but it then is hawian and means the sea! spelt with a 'C' it is whelsh and means precious! but maby if its that confusing now will just knock it on the head and go for something like Brett instead? Anyone trying breastfeeding for the first time? I never did it with DS but want to try this time and everyone is telling me their horror stories, and am feeling very worried!

lackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2008 16:59

aaaargh...parents night. I had forgotten

talk to you all later!

Oblomov · 03/07/2008 16:59

Daisy, font of knowledge, thank you.
See, all I was saying is that I will have one glass of wine with my christmas lunch, as a treat.

misdee · 03/07/2008 17:02

i've gotta go and see my kids school work now and collect their reports. back later

Yorky · 03/07/2008 17:05

Lacka - Scottish/Gaelic names are lovely, I really like Liam, Brendan, Owen for a boy but DH nat keen. My DBs SIL has 3DC named after Scottish islands - Arran, Islay and Iona. She wants twin boys next - Harris and Lewis!
Are you around next weekend for a book delivery? prob Sunday pm
Dyerlou - I BF DS and have no horror stories for you, he took to it really well and I had no problems with cracking or engorgement, hope I can be so lucky twice. My tip is a massage bar from Lush called mange too, or something, it smells sweet and is great for the skin, and its edible so I kept rubbing it on my boobs - and like I say they never cracked. Thats not to say it didn't hurt, but never enough to put me off

sparkletoes · 03/07/2008 17:07

A fab breastfeeding support lady told me it is a big myth that you can't drink anything while BF. There used to be a theory where you had to 'pump & dump' the first feed after a drink but it has been shown by studies in America to be nonsense. Having said that I don't think anyone would advocate BF straight after a drink (or 3,12..) but I used to have a very nice G&T in eve AFTER i had fed DS. I would then feed him again once he woke up.

Another thing you may hear is not to drink fizzy drinks/spicy food etc.... IMHO I think that if you notice an association with something you drink/eat upsetting your DC then of course stop taking it but apart from that I know of no reason to stop eating/drinking normally. Alcohol in moderation as I have said but then isn't that normal advice! Anyway babies & hangovers surely don't mix!

Dyerlou - congrats on your blue one!

misdee - congrats on your ample bosom! (doesn't that mean it is a girl accord to the folklore?!)

Obs - have that tantrum and then sit down again, you have done well girl - wish my house was clean/dinner made!!

HI all
congratulations on the scans! Anoother boy.

I've been shopping for baby things today, new mattresses and some clothes whilst the sale is on at M/care, thoughn there will prolly be anotherone before the baby comes.

Re Birthing pools I think they are lovely.I do have two friends whose babies arrived before the pool, though- so a bit of advance planning is advised!

Autumnlady- your consultant sounds good to me- she/he is checking options for you, and being thorough, which is good. Epidurals are not great- I had one with DS and it took ages to get my legs back and they are not great for labour- plus they give you backache. My spinal with DD was nothing like as hard to recover from. I think a thread with your specific issues would be a good idea.

Can I just talk about morphine..in a whisper..didnt go for the pethadine as lots of people said it makes them spaced out..but if you are having a section, can I recommend you ask for a morphine suppositry rather than the drip? It is much better.TMI, I know but I've said it now.

RE DS in nursery- No I'm not worried, or feeling guilty, or bothered what my- as has already been decided by you lovely ladies- very competitive friend thinks about my parenting choices.I was being a bit sarcastic.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/07/2008 17:16

Wine and bfeeding- wine goes quite well with choclate cake, so I recommend the odd glass whilst bfeeding.

I did have a bit too much once and had an unexpected extra bfeed to do when I got home, and DD's poo was a bit vinegary the next day, but otherwise she was fine

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/07/2008 17:18

obviously, not during a feed but the same evening as, IYSWIM.

ChocOrange05 · 03/07/2008 17:48

Drinking and BF at the same time - that sounds like it would pass the time!!!

Oblomov has definitely been having some fun today but perhaps not drinking fun!!

Congrats on your successful scan Dyerlou

Guy at work advised me not to BF after drinking and eating champagne and strawberries - makes for a smelly nappie package apparently

Oh, bad mother alert - I wonder if you drink before BF it might induce sleep, thats what alcohol does for me!!

sparkletoes · 03/07/2008 18:08

Haha ChocO I used to joke that DS slept better on the alcoholic milk! (I was joking tho honest....)

Hello lovely ladies!

Cor blimey what a lot of chatter! Have just spent about an hour reading what I've missed but promptly forgotten who said what but everything looks good so that's fabulous

Congrats to all on scans. I had a lovely scan on Tues. We found out I'm carrying a little boy oooooey! So happy! Had an consultant appointment at the hosp today (at least I think that's what it was) I have to have an heart echo done or my heart has an echo or something. Something to do with a murmur. I didn't understand what the lady was saying and I couldn't read her hand writing either lol!

oh well.

ChocOrange05 · 03/07/2008 18:14

Congrats on your successful scan Barbareebaa!!

That seems like a lot of boys for us lot now - are there any girls out there that we know of??

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/07/2008 18:30

Congratulations on the scan, Barbareebaa. looks like we've evened up again after the little flurry of girls last week.

Hope the ehcho scan goes well.

sparkletoes · 03/07/2008 18:32

Haey Barbareebee congrats on YOUR blue one!!

Yes ChocO that is a whole bunch of blue ones in this thread!

I didn't ask at scan but DH thinks we are having a pink one and according to the folklore I am def having a pink one...

On other hand I think it is prob another blue one but who knows!

Yes this thread isn't going to last at this rate AT ALL!! 3 pages since about 5pm!!!!

Thanks to ALL who liked the thread name, afraid I made it up in an awful hurry... Really liked a thread name that is only suited for a bit later on (say start of Oct) called 'due date approaching time to get the lady gardens tidied' or something.. made my ROTFL! Then thought of a similar one for us for that time but it is deffo too rude so I am not even going to suggest it - DH was shocked!

Hi Ladies

Have been following but been really tired this week, one more week at work before summer hol's and its so busy now.

Some lovely scan news.

I am so determined to BF for longer this time felt like I did not try hard enough after DD and I know its only 5 yrs a go but I think its more accepted in pulic now.

Pelvis and leg still playing up ut got physio app. on 15th so that should be good.

DH got a week off starting tom and he is going to decorate the nursery so that we have some where to put all of the stuff we have bought!! God knows where all the stuff from that room is going to go, we will no longer have a dumping ground!

DH still not slipped up on what we are ahving, he does say at least once a day though Are you sure you don't want to know but I can honestly say I am not tempted!

We have thought of names and they are either Rebecca Mae or Thomas William.

Obl sounds like your house is imaculate, my day off tomorrow and I determined not to spend it cleaning, hoping to go and look for a new car!

Anyway just checking in, good to 'see' you all.
Coolkat x

DD is helping me type,lol.

Hi coolkat, hope the physio gives comes up with something useful.

Ihave no idea where the baby stuff is going to go in our house. We have a chest of drawers with a changing thing on it in our room, but that's about all the space this baby has so far!

coolkat · 03/07/2008 18:49

Which I had will power when it comes to Crisps, sweets and chocolate

coolkat · 03/07/2008 18:49
