Ok I am guessing this thread will last about 2 weeks!!

OP posts:

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/07/2008 18:51

nah, you wouldn't be human then! I can sympathise with your DH- I am rubbish at exciting secrets!

ChocOrange05 · 03/07/2008 18:54

Has anyone heard from MerryMarigold recently?? Not seen her on here for a while. As she's having two I was wondering if she knew the sex/es yet??

barbareebaa · 03/07/2008 19:07

lol! Rather like barbareebee sparkletoes

Dozymare · 03/07/2008 19:15

Can't believe this thread....Awesome title sparkletoe really really love it!!

obs pinky autumn chocorange sparkle and bubbaz you don't have love a chat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dyerlou congrats on another boy for this thread - they are outnumbering girls by about 3:1 by my reckoning - that means come 2030 when our LO's are 22 and I might finally let my DD go dating, she should have a good selection of eligible (OMG can't remember how to spell that!!) batchelors!!!!!

Actually, there's a thought - can you imagine if any of our LO's ever get hitched by coincidence...wouldn't that be a very strange occurence!

Lovely thought though as you are all so nice!

lackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2008 19:30

apart from clothes, we don't need to buy any more stuff for this baby. I'm a little disappointed at that though!

congrats on your blue ones dyerlou and .barbareebaa. I'm sure the girls will catch up soon enough.

Was it MM who was moving house? Someone was definately moving!

Apparently booze does make them more sleepy chocorange. My DD used to go from 7ish until 3ish from about 9 weeks so I could have a glass of wine or two after she had gone to bed and not worry about being sober enough to feed her...it was lovely

ceebee74 · 03/07/2008 20:22

OMG - I last checked MN just after lunch and since that time, we not only have a new thread but you have managed to fill 4 pages of it

I have read it all but cannot remember what anyone said - sorry!!

Congrats to those that have had scans - as boys are outnumbering girls, it is looking more and more likely that my bump is a girl!!

Good luck to those with scans tomorrow.

Oblomov - HM2J posts on another thread that I go on and she posted very briefly early in the week to say that she was back from her holiday - but not posted since. I guess she is just really busy catching up from her holiday?

Have booked 'bump' in nursery today - it seems ridiculously early but wanted to make sure that there was a place at the same nursery as DS. Worked out that I can stay off work for 9 months, so with annual leave added etc., I will be going back in September 2009 - it sounds ages away but I bet it will be here in a flash!!

ceebee, that is so organised. I need to start thinking about childcare soon too. I'll be going back to work in Sep 09 as well, but haven't yet got my head around the whole nursery/childminder thing. Don't know which is better. I will be going back full time, so wherever the littl'un ends up, it needs to be somewhere good as he/she will spend a fair bit of time there.

Do those of you who have kids already prefer the nursery or the childminder option?

twinklingfairy · 03/07/2008 20:51

yorky I have no scrupples at all, please can I have a pirate copy of your hypnobirthing cd?
miriampain at yahoo dot com
I don't know yet if I will get the chance to put it into practice with a natural birth, but it can't do any harm

I agree with many others that this thread moves crazy fast, who said about someones DH muttering 'my cervix is opening like a flower' in his sleep? I LOL and told my DH.
So really I just want the cd so I can get my DH to mutter it too, so I can tell the story and embarass him for years to come

Dozymare · 03/07/2008 20:53

sparkletoes · 03/07/2008 20:55

CeeBee I will be registering DC2 soon aswell. A friend of mine has also registered her unborn DC1 in her preferred nursery to ensure there is a place so I guess we are not alone!

Juanitad it will totally depend on the provision in your area. I would go and see as many childminders & nurseries as you can before you think about making a decision. I def did NOT want a nursery for DS but after visiting the local CMs I was far more impressed with one of nurseries in the next village so he goes there. If you had told me I would send him to a nursery in the next village I would have said NNNOOOO!! So there you go IMO you won't know until you visit...

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/07/2008 20:56

very organaised, ceebee- But you do have to book these places early, don't you?

Lackadasiy- I'm mainly getting clothes, but I ebayed my medela breastpump (with new breastshield and valves I might add!) and my hardly used sterilser (I managed to melt my old one)so I bought the new tommee tippe pump with it's own steriliser box today, and a new mattress for the crib. I hadn't got a new one for DD, so I thought two babies one mattress was enough really, and this DD willl have new.

They've got some lovely clothes for next spring/summer on sale at m/care at the moment.

I know DM, I'm a complete chatterbox, I don't get out much!

PInkyminkyohnooo · 03/07/2008 21:00

OOh ohh scottish names, my DH is an Alasdair- which is the name of a mountain on Skye, where his family is from. It means 'the inacccessible pinnacle' I know he's tall, but not that tall, lol. But it's a lovely name, and spelling.

I have a copy of a VBAC hypnobirthing cd if amnyone wants a copy, it's great.

barbareebaa · 03/07/2008 21:00

poor you sparkletoes hope you feel better really soon

cor blimey childcare?!? We are so unprepared for everything here. God only knows how we are going to be able to afford to live when I'm supposed to go back to work. Dh is desparately hunting for a better job. Tis very worrying

I do rather like to do things and worry about the consequences later

sparkletoes · 03/07/2008 21:01

LOL at the hypno CDs making husband talk in their sleep! I listened to mine in the privacy of our front room and the woman with the calm voice never mentioned cervixs opening like flowers! I want that one!

OP posts:
ceebee74 · 03/07/2008 21:02

Juanitad - my preference for DS was nursery because he loves being surrounded by children and he really seems to thrive in that kind of environment where there are lots of children but you do have to accept that you are not going to get the 1-2-1 care for them there.

Pinky - I went to Mothercare today and got some cheap clothes for DS in the sale plus a lovely long-sleeved green maternity top for me for £6 (should have been £22!) so definitely worth a look.

twinklingfairy · 03/07/2008 21:03

Oh, on the subject of alcohol whilst BF. I know you guys are all talking about a glass or so being fine which I agree with, moderation.
I expressed in advance so that I could take a fair bit at New Year 06(DD was 3 months) but had to express the next day anyway so that I could be comfortable, and the milk was grey and watery, yuk! It really made me aware that you don't know what they are getting, so you gotta be careful.
But, as I say, you guys are talking in moderation which I am sure would be ok. I was not drinking in any great moderation that night hence the grey milk.

Someone else was asking for good stories about BF? Mine wasn't so great but what really helped me get through was a target.
I really wanted to be able to take my DD to PIL for christmas and totally saw myself BF at that point. I did not see myself using bottles, so always had that as my target that I wanted to achieve.
It worked for me because it was 3 months ahead, so whilst the first 6 weeks were bad, I would not give up until I had achieved my target. By which point it was natural.
I think you defo need to be prepared that it could be up to 6-8 weeks for total comfort, but that it may be heaps less, bonus.
Does that help or scare.
It is just my personal experience of it aswell, please remember

That is the best way of looking at things Barbareebaa!

Have now taken two of DH's co-codamols and they have done NOTHING!! I'll be on the steam in a bowl with a towel at this rate....

That is the best way of looking at things Barbareebaa! I used to worry about stuff then realised it much easier to get on with things and just apologise if it doesn't work out!

sparkle did you say you had a blocked up nose/head cold???? If so, get yourself into boots tomorrow and buy some menthol crystals, cheap as chips and utterly brilliant and clearing you out! I assume they are ok in PG as natural but check with pharmacist first!!!

lackaDAISYcal · 03/07/2008 21:11

that was clever sparkletoes...a triple post with the third one different!

alasdair is nice and is kind of on our list, but one of my work colleagues is a crusty beardy called Alasdair (complete with bits of food debris in his beard), who rightly should have been mired in the depths of acadaemia rather than let loose on the world of consultancy....it kind of skews your views a bit!
