Dazie · 10/02/2005 13:40

Afternoon all
Will be having my scan on the 16th to confirm dates as this wasnt a planned pregnancy and I had just given up breast feeding, doc says that my dates may be a few weeks out. I am sure I have my dates right as I was feeling really ill and put it down to nerves as I was taking my driving test but when I was still feeling ill a few days later dh said we had better do a test.

Azure we are having simaliar probs telling our DS who is having a few problems at pre-school we dont want him to have to deal with too much. Health visitor has suggested books by ladybird and if the subject comes up then to tell him and see how he feels about it

Eulalia · 10/02/2005 16:25

Wow so many posts. Great news on the scans kizzy, bluestar & miaou. Funny I've never been asked to drink water for any of my scans. Miaou I am sure that you will be first as I was 8 days and 15 days late with my previous 2.

Twiga - I was in the midwives unit when I had my first. I was lucky in that we got a midwife just coming on shift and there was only her, me and dh for the whole of the labour and birth. It was very quiet too as it was evening and the middle of the night. 2nd time I was induced and although it was very straightforward there were a few more people involved. Doesn't look as if we'll be in the same time unless you are 2 weeks early and I am 2 weeks late.

Welcome Dazie.

Sorry if I've missed anyone I am in the middle of feeding the kids.

kate100 · 10/02/2005 17:19

Wow, you lot have really talked in the last couple of days, it took me ages to catch up.

Welcome to Erinleigh and Dazie.

Thanks for all the sympathy, I've been doing my best to take it easy, doctors advice, so I've taken few days off work and my mum is looking after DS and DH is waiting on me hand and foot. I'm a very lucky girl.

Miaou, my due date got moved to 30th July, but I'm staying with this thread, so sign me up for the race to give birth first!! I expect to be soundly beaten by everyone as DS was 9 days late, but I can hope that this one won't keep me hanging around so long.

Great news about scans, it's such a relief, I always worry that they'll tell me it's just wind!
We had to pay a pound for each photo, but the money is used to buy new ante-natal scanning equipment.

Colinsmommy, I'm also concerned about having another large baby. DS was 9lb 11oz (delivered naturally with no pain relief and no stitches for all the first timers who read that and go into a flat panic), after losing 14 lbs in the first trimester, I then gained weight steadily and like you I also tried hard to eat lots of fruit and veg, but unlike you I also eat a lot of chocolate. In the end I gained aboout 25 lbs. This time I'm really cutting down on sugary things as I don't want to gain loads of unnecessary weight and take a chance of increasing the baby's weight, took pregnancy as an excuse to pig out before. But the midwife said that DS was just a big baby, not fat like baies who are fed on sugar are. In fact she congratulated me on doing such a good job of growing him. I think I've resigned myself to the inevitable that the next one will be bigger and the midwife has already said that they won't induce early, so I guess I'll have to push even harder, eek!!

Anyone else having trouble with their maternity clothes, mine all feel a bit stretched and baggy from last time. I'm also worried that nearly all my clothes are for roasting hot weather as had DS in 2003, if it doesn't warm up I'll be freezing!! Oh well, will have to buy more clothes

Miaou · 10/02/2005 19:10

I wasn't asked to pay for the photo, and in fact the radiographer printed out two, one for me and one for my mum! I wish I'd thought now to offer a contribution as it is a fairly small (cottage) hospital, but I was a bit overwhelmed at the time!

I've just ordered some maternity clothes - I gave all mine away after dd2 as I was so sure I didn't want any more. But this time I thought I would treat myself to "proper" maternity stuff, not just buying stuff a size bigger - I'm only 5'2" and a size 10, and going up a size usually means the arms and legs are too long and I look like Harry Potter in Dudley Dursley's cast offs! I've ordered jeans and a fitted top from Mothercare, and a lovely top from JoJoMamanBebe in the sale, so I hope they come soon! (Have a nasty feeling the trousers will be too long though!)

josey · 10/02/2005 19:28

i have been told that i will have to pay a donation of £1.00 per photo aswell.
i have also ordered a few maternity clothes as i was starting to spread really quickly but have now come to a stop over the last few weeks, as long as everything is ok im quite happy with that, i only had 1 pair of maternity jeans last time and hated them as they were to short in the leg so you rarely got me out of joggers

moschops · 10/02/2005 19:45

all of my clothes are getting a bit tight but i'm reluctant to buy any maternity clothes, i am a very small size 8 normally and have no maternity wear shops in my town. i'll have to find time to travel and try a few things on. keep finding nice stuff online but am terrified of ordering stuff and it not fitting at all.

i am suddenly having terrible mood swings..........getting so annoyed and short tempered at everyone..........and so tired......i would give just about anything for one really good nights sleep.

kizzy212 · 10/02/2005 19:58

9lb plus babies,

Welcome to Jac, Erinleigh and Dazie,

colinsmommy i have just noticed that we are due the same date 17th. having movement already? i cant wait till i feel mine.

josey · 10/02/2005 20:24

moschops - lucky u!! im a 10/12 but given up the ghost with the 10s now do you have a next or a topshop nearby? or online next least you would know they would take the stuff back.
im same with moods unfortunately ds seems to be getting it in the neck today which is making me feel worse for being so grumpy - try horlics-worked for me last time round had no need for it yet though.could sleep all day and night

bluestar · 10/02/2005 20:55

Kizzy, glad your scan was ok. I know what you mean about being nervous - I was petrified and then when the scanner first went on I couldn't really see anything and the sonographer said are you sure about your dates which sent me into a mass panic. It was just a routine question though and he quickly reassured me that all was well.

beachyhead, I am too worried about telling work as I have only been in my job 10 weeks and I am just over 12 weeks pregnant! I was made redundant from previous job & had been trying for well over a year to get pregnant so timing is just a little unfortunate I suppose. I am going to make out that I have only known for a few weeks rather than since week 4 and I have been ill with flu & colds so it is quite plausible that Iwouldn't have known. Hope it goes ok for you & any others dreading telling work.

Kizzy-Mine's been moved back to the 31st due to the scan. I think it makes more sense, because I didn't get a BFP until 11 days after my period should have started. I haven't felt anything yet, but don't tend to take things as baby movement until I am about 300% positive that's what it is.

Kate-9lbs 11oz? WOW. I had Colin naturally, too, but would love to know how you got away with no stitches. I swear 8 of his 9 pounds were in his head. That is one of the reasons I don't want to be induced, is that I did most of my dilating over several weeks, and made it to the hospital about 10 min. after I'd gone into labor and was at 9 cm already, and am just afraid if I have to be induced that it will be a whole lot longer labor this time.

Azure · 11/02/2005 09:05

I'm feeling really, really bad with a cold which arrived again on Wednesday. I've struggled into work (almost had to get off the tube because I felt faint, but luckily a seat became available) and was sick once I got here. Was also sick before leaving home, and I had only had a cup of tea. Have eaten a bagel now so hopefully will feel better soon. Booking-in appointment with the midwife this afternoon at last - there's no way I not making that, unless I'm actually dead. Remind me, does the midwife ask questions re family health, i.e. whether there is diabetes or cancer in the family? I'll need to give my mum a quick ring for the information if so.

Dazie · 11/02/2005 09:09

Morning all
woke up feeling ill with cold this morning I seem to be getting eveything going! Kate100 I had a 9pound4 baby first then they told me I would be having a big one again they did loads of scans said dd would be huge I oppted for a c section as I couldnt cope doing that all over again on the day I was due for my c section i went into labour they let me carry on and at the end I gave birth to a quite small 6 pound 2 ounce baby they dont get it right all the time!

Erinleigh · 11/02/2005 12:26

Hi all... about clothes:

I'm having trouble getting trousers buttoned... seem to be carrying this baby very low. Think I will have to start looking for maternity clothes v soon; not what I wanted to do really but hardly have anything to wear!

Twiga · 11/02/2005 12:33

Hurray! I've had two days now without being sick, still feel sick but not throwing up hope this is a sign that the morning sickness is on the way out!!!

kate100 · 11/02/2005 13:46

Dazie, you have no idea how much hope you have given me that I may not be having another gargantuan baby!! 6lbs 2oz, did it drop out after the first one?!

Colinsmommy, DS had a very, very small head. His head measurement was on the 25th centile, compared to his 91st centile weight. The paedeatrician put a big circle round it on his chart, until I pointed out that I can wear children's hats and maybe he had inherited it from me. He's still got a dinky head now and is in hats a size or 2 smaller than his age.

I've got my home visit appointment with the midwife on the 22nd of this month and my anomaly scan on march 18th, seems an age to wait again. There is alot of that in pregnancy, isn't there? I am seriously thinking of a home birth, our maternity unit has recently been moved to a new hospital and parking can be a problem. In fact one woman gave birth in the car park as her husband couldn't find a space!!! No thanks. I bet they won't let me because of DS's birth weight. Anyone else planning on staying at home? Or done it already, I'd be interested to find out how it went.

colinsmommy · 11/02/2005 16:07

Dazie--Thanks for the story, you have made me feel better for awhile at least.

Eulalia · 11/02/2005 18:01

Didn't realise you'd had your date moved too Kate. Wow what a big baby and with no pain relief - I am impressed. My ds was 6lbs 2oz and his head was 0.2% on the centile chart, right at the bottom. He popped out really easily, all the bit beforehand still hurt of course. I have a small head too and those Christmas cracker hats are the worst - always end up round my neck

Azure - yes they do ask questions about family history. Hope you feel better soon.

Go to go now but catch up with the rest of you soon.

SHELY · 11/02/2005 18:20

Hey girls! iam new to this board. I just found it, and i hope you don't mind me dropping in! I was on the ttc board, awhile ago, and didn't know about this "August expecting" one, till today First, i'd like to congratulate everyone on their pregnancies!! Iam due on august 18th, and am 13 weeks, 1 day pregnant. (boy i hope time passses fast!! at least till it gets sunny and warm, then time ALWAYS passes quickly, lol). ,Me and dh were successful on our 1st round of clomid, and iui, so we were quite lucky, and happy as can be, of course! I lost my 9 year old son, in august, so this is such a blessing for me! This is his first child. iam 29 he is 43, and we were ttc for over 3 years. I found out at 7 wks, i had 2 sacs, but only 1 viable baby i just had an NT u/s scan a week and 1/2 ago, and the second sac is smaller, but still there. (it's a vanishing twin things, wish i wish it would have been gone by then, but hopfeully by the next u/s it will be totally re-absorbed. It was scarey at first, but i never bled or cramped, and all is well with this child, so i have to be thankful for that!

So how are you gals feeling?? Any better then in the beginning weeks? I still get tired, and a bit naseous, but not quite as bad. Hopefully things just go up from here. I have my next appt. on 3/1, and we should see the sex the dr. said, so iam very anxious to get to that day! anyone have their suspicions on the baby's sex yet? Iam thinking pink, but who knows right? I'll be happy eigther way!

Welp, just wanted to introduce myself here. lots of belly rubs and hugs to all!! Shely

PS- Twiggy, i remember you from the ttc board, how many weeks are you now?? congratulations

SHELY · 11/02/2005 18:21

twiga (sorry bout the twiggy, lol) crazy morning!

Twiga · 11/02/2005 18:54

Welcome to the board Shely and congratulations , am really pleased to see you over here! I'm now 11+2, I found out on Christmas day which was just amazing and managed to get an early scan a week or so ago and all is going great, looks like a very lively baby. Can't wait for my 20 week scan on the 19th April. Am due 31 August.

Colinsmommy looks like we share our due date. I'm glad there will be a few of us around until the end of the month as I guess this thread will gradually empty, so at least we'll have company right up to the end!

colinsmommy · 11/02/2005 19:25

I'm glad there will be someone else around, too, Twiga. I have visions of being here in September all by myself and still pregnant.

bensmum3 · 11/02/2005 20:58

Miaou, sorry to post here, just trawled through to see where you've posted, I've managed to loose your telephone number already ! Can you email or let me have it again please, Awww, you've had a scan, makes it all seem real doesn't it, still trying to persuade dh no 4 would be a good idea, anyway I will ring as son as I have your no again.

bensmum3 · 11/02/2005 20:59

Do you think the spelling mistake might be an omen as to the sex of your baba ?

Miaou · 11/02/2005 21:00

bensmum3!! Will email you xxx
