Glad to hear you're feeling better kate100 - are you finished the antibiotics now?

Twiga - very envious of your gliding chair, they're fab. Although don't lie back in it too much in the final weeks as, if you can be bothered, sitting forward is recommended then for getting baby into a better position for arrival. I bought one of those birth balls which was utterly brilliant, used it before, during and after labour (great for bouncing on to calm shouting baby). It's referred to as the magic ball in our house. Very happy to hear you're enjoying this pregnancy now.

Where did you get the ball from wilbur? roughly how much? My physio has recomended one for me to help with the SPD.

Nome, Wilbur, KMS, Eulalia - thanks all for the advice. Sorry for the slow response too, but I kept going off and getting lost in nappy heaven / hell.

The weenee pants concept sounds interesting, esp. as our friends-with-new-baby were just saying they couldn't possibly imagine using cloth as they are changing 15 times a day (although they only just realised that boys need to be directed South, so things might improve for them), and our other friends-with-new-baby said they stopped using cloth after a few weeks as it just didn't seem to work for them (will interrogate to understand reasons why ). Weenees are pouch pants which take an insert (either cloth or disposable) and I think the idea is you can reuse the pant for several changes and just deal with the insert for the many newborn wees... (KMS, please post if I'm talking rubbish). Will have to look into that. Sounds sensible, but not sure how different that idea is to a shaped nappy plus decent booster... KMS ?

We may well try one of the 'dazed and confused' type trial packs, or try and meet up with any nappy nutters / agents who can show me a range of bits and explain what's what. KMS: Any colleagues in NW / W central London ?) Would also be great to attend some kind of 'hands on demo sessions' where lots of different brands get presented for different aged babbas.

Just to even things out amongst the nappy advising brigade: Team Lollipop

Anyway, I'm boring myself now.

totally with wilbur about the 'magic ball'. I used one in labour and it was great, it brings the baby down, but you don't have to stand up so you don't get as tired, I was most upset when I had to get off it, I was happily reliving my space hopper childhood (grew up in the '70's). It also helped get my stomach muscles back inot shape afterwrds and now it's nice for my achy back. It's sore at the moment, as my bump grew while I was ill and not doing a lot and now I'm stuggling to carry it around, I think I just need a bit of time to adjust.

KMS - I got mine from Boots and I think it was about £10. Most sports shops have them too. Takes a bit of effort to blow it up the first time though!!

hub2dee - yes newborns do need changing alot in the early weeks.
They usually poo at every feed and when you think they are feeding about every 2 hrs that works out at quite a few! (It doesn't last very long though!) This is why I love muslins as they contain well, are very cheap , dry very quickly and have loads of other uses once they are no longer used as nappies. They are not the most absorbant nappy but you don't need absorbancy when you are changing very frequently. (then you move on to something a bit more absorbant at around 6-8 weeks)
You will still have to be changing the nappies even if in disposables! the only difference is that you put them in a bucket instead of the bin and you empty the bucket into your washing machine instead of your wheelie bin! not alot of difference.
I wonder if you friends had leaks. this could depend on what they were using and is a great shame that they haven't been helped out by the retailer. If they used an agent, that is what they are there for to help iron out any difficulties. (the nappies may be a couple of pence more than on-line but that ongoing support and advise is well worth it!)
I would meet up with a nappy nutter! seeing the nappies in real life is well worth it and some (like me) do a hire kit that saves you buying anything before you have tried them.
you can find your nearest lollipop advisor on the agent location bit on the website. your email will go to the regional manager who will pass it on to the nearest advisor to you. Or you could post on the forum. I think I am too far out for you as I am over the boarder into Bucks.
CAT me if you want anymore info on specifics as I feel we are rather clogging this thread and I don't want to get a bad name. hope this has been helpfull to others.

hi all - long time no post, had 2nd scan, all fine and another boy! quite relieved all seems to be in place and that a boy (save a fortune in clothes!) they've put me forward in dates again though, EDD 31 July - so might get no mat pay now unless I can talk GP round !!
still as DH says, most important thing is that babe ok right now, just feeling worried about job prospects - really like current post and want to be able to go back to it if poss.
admire those planning to use reusables - really would like to, hate the waste of disposable nappies but honestly don't think realistic for us to use anything else, especially with ds1 to look after this time too.

what great news about your scan Misschief. I know what you mean about saving money on the clothes, I can't bear waste and I think I've got all these lovely boys clothes that may not be used again. I can't wait for my scan on Friday, I'm sure this week wil creep by, I'll have to keep really busy.

This morning DH and I saw the baby moving from the outside!! It was very exciting, but I'd forgotten what a weird experience it is.

I havent got round to thinking about nappies and that kind of thing yet, i have decided this time that im not going to get my ideads firmly stuck just see what happens as last time everything i planned for went wrong and lead to PND as i felt that everything i tried i failed, so think if i couldnt manage it would have been something else to add to the list.
I have to go and get my 16week bloods taken tomorrow morning really not looking forward to that will be glad when is all over

Hi everyone,

feeling much better now- baby is kicking gently (ebry other day)!! So heartbeat or not I know it's ok. My reflexologist also said baby was doing well- taking nutrients etc etc...but to watch the iron intake as it was a litle low and could get too low in another 10 weeks or so!

anyway- Like KMS I am a nappy advisor and pleased to see so many of you looking into it. I found it much easier than I thought I would
Just adding a few bimbles to th motherease ones I have this time (like KMS tho found muslins were best on a newborn!!) and of course motherease wraps!!

for those less keen..there are eco friendly disp available- moltex and nature boy girl. Moltex is v popular. Personally we like the nature ones and use them on holidays!!

anyway hope evryone else is ok. Scan soon........pink or blue??? I darent even guess!! either and healthy would be great!

Just wanted to say hello. Am new to posting messages but have been following everyone's progress on this thread for a week or two now.
This is my first pregnancy with due date 3rd August. Have 20wk scan on Friday and can't wait, although I am fairly nervous about it too.

KMS · 14/03/2005 13:43

how sacry spacecadet! hope DD was ok as well. Hope you are feeling less giddy now.

Hello Kiwibump and welcome, the 20wk scan is exciting and scary at the same time. Great to see baby but the small worry in the back of your mind about everything being ok. I have mine next week as i am due 7th aug. Are you a "kiwi" in the UK or are you still in new zealand? or not a kiwi at all!!!!

Great to have another nappy advisor on here Leahbump! i am also really pleased that so many of this group are looking into it. A sign of the times I feel.
did you know that nature boy/girl still contain chemical gels? moltex are the best in manufacture but still don't decompose in binbags in a landfill. I suppose it depends on peoples reasons for coming to cloth.

Still in my normal clothes here at 16 weeks and still haven't told work officially - must do soon as by the evening, I look like a ripe peach ......
20 week scan on 10th April, (wilbur when is yours and is it at Tommy's?) which is v.exciting. Then we are into pre-eclampsia land - (got taken in at 28 weeks for No.1 and delivered at 31....so from 20 weeks, I will be urine testing, bp testing and no flying (just to avoid having a prem baby in a foreign land!!!!!)

Ha Ha Ha - the joys of motherhood - my friend just reminded me that with my first, I only just made it into my maternity clothes, so why was I worried this time about having a small bump.....

My dh says it is because I'm fatter this time, so its just hiding in the blubber somewhere (which I don't think was very nice)...

Masses more energy now during the day - flaked out at night - everyone in our house has flu, so I'm just escaping catching that......

Have a good week everyone

Hi all. Haven't been on much. Its so hard to believe that it is still winter, when it is almost 80 degrees outside.

Spent yesterday in the ER as my 18 mo old developed croup. Poor baby had to get 2 shots and a breathing treatment. He also had a temp. of 104, and an ear infection to go along with it. He really didn't do too badly last night, except for I had him sleep with me and he kept trying to sleep on top of me, so I got almost no sleep. He's much better this am, though.

Hi Kiwibump. Welcome to the thread.

Jellybrain--I'm at the stage where I can see people looking at me and wondering if I've just gained weight or am pregnant, but being afraid to ask. I think I'd rather just pop out more and have it be obvious.

Hiya colinsmommy, so sorry to hear that colin hasn't been well. Glad to hear he's on the mend now though.

I've been in maternity jeans for about 5 weeks now! But that's mainly because my tummy feels so tender and all my other trousers made it feel worse. I have got quite a noticeable bump now, but still I would say I don't look pregnant if I am wearing a coat or a sweater.

I'm having my 20 week scan on Thursday - a 2 hour trip each way - has caused a childcare nightmare as we will have to leave before the dds go to school! In the end we asked my mum and dad to come up from England to look after them (they were coming up anyway, they just had to bring it forward). They agreed to help but I know we are NOT going to be allowed to forget it for years to come....

Sorry to hear you've had a difficult time of it colinsmummy.

Am definitely looking pg now and well in to maternity clothes. Seem to stay the same shape for a few days, then rapidly expand overnight, often feeling a little stretched and achy with it. Everyone keeps reminding me that I haven't seen anything yet... Am sure i'm feeling the baby move now, which is really good. Had expected it to freak me out a bit, but it hasn't

KMS - I'm not a kiwi at all, probably making this a crap nickname! Baby conceived while on holiday in NZ - quite a souvenier to bring back with us! Have taken to calling the bump "kiwi" rather than "it" as we're not finding out the sex. That probably makes me sound like a mad woman.

Report

KMS- I knew that nature boy girl were not 100% bio degradeable but from what I've read they are more so than moltex. The great thing about moltex is that they are ethically manufactured. I don't think any disp nappies have a chance when it comes to decomposing in bin bags or normal nappy sacks- even the eco ones. I tried the biodegradable nappy sacs but for on hols but I was not keen at all...

Feeling exhausted here already. thankfully ds is a great baby so he's being extra huggy towards mummy- ufortunatley my belly button has change early this time and might even pop out later on (nearly did last time) and ds thinks that is great. Not so great for me as he thinks it's a button to be pressed!!!

Soooo excited about scan.

Anyone seen any decent maternity dresses?? I was hoping for a long one? Might have to get a blooming marvellous linen one if all else fails...but don't fancy showing off puffy legs in the summer.

Hi - just popping on quickly to say I've got my scan tomorrow. Have to go on my own though as it is at 11.20am - a really annoying time as dh works 15 miles from the community hospital and besides he is teaching anyway so I said not to worry. 3rd time I am feeling quite relaxed about it all My parents are looking after dd.

Got to go dh is home... catch up on everyone later...

Colinsmommy that sounds terrible. DS is cutting his canines and has been waking up in the night. So I had to get in with him on Saturday as he was so upset, but didn't get any sleep as he has feet like ice.

Kiwibump, welcome and what a great story for your nickname.

Eulalia, hipe everything is ok tomorrow.

I have a bump and am in maternity clothes, although it's more for comfort than necessity. People have started looking as if to say 'is she isn't she' but I feel like I'm growing quickly now. Hope the weather warms up soon, my coat os getting a bit tight.

Oh bugger got to go, DS is eating cat food...
