Lets hope it's not too long before everyone is hatched and milking season is in full swing!

So impressed with the attitudes of those of u still waiting. I was as mad as a hatter! Still having bf probs to the point have googled ff to try and make myself feel better should i switch. We went for our first walk with the buggy today which cheered me up hugely. Terrified of mon when dh goes back to work tho. Just thinking about it makes me cry...

PP just to let you know about FF, DD has only been FF and is an extremely healthy, not overweight, no allergies 2 year old. So a positive experience here.

spongebrainbigpants · 04/07/2008 14:03

Hi all, just wanted to say good luck to all those booked in for induction tomorrow - look forward to loads of birth announcements next week.

bitofadramaqueen · 04/07/2008 14:12

PP have you been posting from your mobile again?

Back from scan, everything as it should be. Got more information about the whole induction process which was good. Will go in tomorrow, 1st dose of gel, monitoring etc... Then go home for the night then back in Sunday morning and that'll be me till I give birth.

The sonographer unintentionally freaked me about a bit. She was asking about baby's movements and I said 'oh, all fine, maybe a bit quieter than they used to be now its not got as much space' (meaning it's a bit less frantic than it was a couple of months ago) and she offered to arrange for some heart monitoring (while looking on screen at healthy heartbeat). I said it was fine, wasn't worried - baby had been very active last night, no changes from current usual pattern of movement etc... She then offered heart monitoring several times after that! I was starting to really worry that there was some hidden reason that she thought I should have been worried. Lost count of how many times she started a question 'if you're worried...' Anyway, everything all ok, so that's the important thing.

whinegums · 04/07/2008 14:12

Hello everyone, not long back from hospital.

Everything is fine, and saw the head honcho midwife, who was great, and v encouraging about not booking in for induction, thank goodness. What a difference from the doctor the other day! She managed to do a bit of a sweep as things do seem to be moving as well.

Scan was all fine, and estimated weight now is 8lbs. Eeeek. 34 cm head. Double eek and watery eyes.

Hellbell, if you don't want to go for the induction, then don't. I spent hours reading the NICE guidance last night, luckily didn't need it in the end thanks to supportive mw, but you might find it useful. You can refuse any treatment, and your health providers must support you in that, and offer expectant management. I'm not saying that there isn't a place for induction, but if everything is fine, placenta, fluid, etc, and you'd rather not go down that route, you can refuse.

Laura and BDQ - good luck with your inductions tomorrow. I'm going to be last to pop on this thread!

needahand · 04/07/2008 15:52

Hi all. I am struggling to find time to post these days but I am still trying to read through the thread . Big wave and hello to all

DQ good luck tomorrow. Will be thinking about you.

Looney I would definitely recommend a cranial osteopath. It worked wonders on DD when she had "colics". I actually think I will take SJ soon as well as he is really straining when he tries to pooh or when he has wind to the point that he can be straining for about an hour for a tiny pooh and a few farts. Also because he has a bit of a hernia I just want to get him checked.

PP you will be fine when your DH starts work again, you will find your own routine with the baby. With regards to bf and ff, bf is hard work (but rewarding in the end), I would still give it a few days as you have done the hardest part now and it would be a shame to give up now. However, if you still think the same in a few days then perhaps looking into ff might be worth it. There is no point you getting very stressed about it, what matters is that the baby has food in its tummy. I haven't read the whole thread in detail, but have you tried to speak to a bf counsellor or to la leche?

debinaustria · 04/07/2008 16:04

Just wanting to wish all the induction group good luck for the weekend. At the hospital here they advise a glass of red wine the night before induction - thought that may cheer you up!!

PP and Upside down - sorry you're both feeling a bit weepy. Here's a hug for you both...ouch mind my sore boobs!

whinegums · 04/07/2008 16:19

DQ, cross posted with you earlier, glad all ok at the hospital, even if you were a bit freaked by sonographer.

Deb, I'm going to have the red wine anyway!

sophiewd · 04/07/2008 17:11

Good luck to all who are being induced this weekend.

I managed to let my room so hope they don't turn up now and that is a bit of money made back.

Have been listening to the thump of Shaky rehearsing all afternoon, so will dress the bambinos up warmly in an hour or so and wander on down for a bit.

bitofadramaqueen · 04/07/2008 17:20

Glad you rented your room sophie.

Thanks all for good wishes - whinegums my sonographer didn't mention head size or estimated weigh but then again, maybe its best if I dont know .

Not a big red wine fan, but planning on having a peroni shandy while watching Dr Who when I get home from hospital tomorrow night instead! As you can tell, I'm fully expecting not to be among the small group of first-time pregnant women who go into labour after first dose of gel!

Quickly posting before I get dragged away! Tried to earlier but then the midwife arrived.

Had a baby boy on wednesday night! 9lb 2 and a half ounces, no name yet, still under discussion with DH!

He is currently asleep on me!

Will have a quick read through then will give you all the gory details!

Good luck to all of those having inductions this weekend, been thinking of you all while I have been without mumsnet!

NumbBum · 04/07/2008 18:18

any sympathatic ears??? was due on 1st and still impatiently waiting...

ktpie · 04/07/2008 18:46

I'll try and make this brief!

Woke up at 5am on wednesday when contractions started. Within an hour they were on average 5 mins apart but a bit variable, had a bath, they slowed down a bit but then were back to 5 mins apart, rang hospital, they said stay at home for a bit longer put TENS machine on and managed to snooze in between contractions all morning, then after lunch they were between 2 and 3 mins apart but variable and I felt like I should be in hopsital so we rang them and went in. After a couple of hours of sitting on a birth ball and them giving DH some aromatherapy oils to rub into my back the contractions were still the same, mostly 2 to 3 mins but sometimes quite a bit longer. Head midwife came along and said they wanted to send me home as they didn't think I was in established labour as contractions weren't regular and I wasn't in enough pain (my way of coping with it was to close my eyes and go a bit quiet!). I wasn't happy with the idea of going home and said I wanted them to examine me first, they weren't keen but did and found I was 4cm dilated, then she happened to check his heartrate as I had a contraction and found it was dipping. Cue being whisked off to the doctor led area and having monitoring of his heart rate and contractions and a load of doctors, the monitoring showed he was now coping which was a massive relief.
Carried on as I had been for a while then they broke my waters to try to get some more regular contractions, hardly any waters seemed to come out but they had meconium in them and I was apparently at this point 5-6cm dilated, I moved onto gas and air at this point fearing it was about to become more painful. Doctors were talking about giving me hormones to speed things up but decided to give me half an hour, midwife suggested I move onto my side to see if that helped then went for a cuppa at 10.15, next contraction felt different, DH went to fetch another midwife who had a look and could see the head coming, babies heart rate had dropped again so suddenly the room was full of doctors they tried two ventuose (first one the suction was broken) and had to turn his head as he was trying to come out the wrong way and then had to use forceps as well. He was born at 11pm!

He is absolutely fine apart from a rather odd shaped head! I am fine apart from the huge amount of stitches they ended up doing, it took him ages to sew me up which was very annoying as I was laid back with my legs in the air and couldn't cuddle baby! We came home yesterday afternoon and are settling in to our new life.

Looking back it worries me what would have happened if I had gone home as they wanted, right until the end my contractions were irregular and the same length in between and they didn't get much stronger than they had been when they wanted to send me home, and I was still coping in the same way (ie not screaming as they expected). How would we have known when to go back? And what would have happened if he had arrived at home? He was coming out the wrong way, was stressed and his heart rate was dropping. Am very glad I stuck to my guns and insisted on an exam before I left.

Bit of a long post but needed to get that off my chest!

LauraT · 04/07/2008 18:55

lots of sympathy here numbBum, there are 4 or 5 of us due last week who are still hanging on!

ktpie congratulations look forward to hearing the name when you decide on one!

Whinegums glad scan was OK and you had more supportive MW this time, you never know, you might go this weekend too if you had a sweep today!

BDQ my pessaries are at 4pm and 10pm, so might beat you!

LauraT · 04/07/2008 18:59

x-post - wow, good job you were insistent ktpie. everyone is different aren't they, v important to listen to the woman's instincts! Don't worry about the strange shaped head from ventouse, it goes away!!!

hedgehog1979 · 04/07/2008 19:54

UDC sympathies with the anaemia and the iron tablets. I lost (according to my notes) 500ml+ of blood and they wanted to give me a blood transfusion too. I refused as it would have meant I was in hospital longer and wanted to get back to a bed long enough for me to stretch out in (I asked for an extension twice and still never got it, damn NHS) I have to take the iron tablets for 6 weeks. I felt really breathless and got out of breath just walking up the stairs at first but it does get better the most shocking thing for me was TMI alert the black stools (thought I was passing meconium!!! )

Whinegums don't panic about an 8lber I have the most georgeous 8lber who had a 36cm head - you will be amazed what your body can do.

ktpie - Congratulations, don't worry about the forceps marks/head shape, Isaac was a forceps birth and the mark faded after about 72 hours, and his head has returned to a normal shape already

Finally Good Luck to all those being induced already or at the weekend, lets hope there are lots of new babies this weekend!!

whinegums · 04/07/2008 20:03

Ktpie, congratulations, and well done for sticking to your guns.

Hedgehog, thanks for that - I always thought I'd have a bit of a chubster to be honest, so am almost relieved at 'only' 8lbs, although not sure how much more he will put on before he actually decides to shift his fat ar$e and get out!!!

Laura and BDQ, looking forward to hearing from you, I'll be checking this thread waiting for your news.

Welcome Numbbum, post away, and tell us a little more about yourself.
