Lets hope it's not too long before everyone is hatched and milking season is in full swing!

Evening all and good luck to all weekend inductions! Well the saga continues. I spoke to a different MW today about moving my induction to T+14 and guess what!? She wasn't keen, but they will! I have to go to the ward on Sunday for monitoring and then for a chat with a doctor on Monday to discuss whether I could go T+14. Slightly strange that they will make that decision on the day that I will be T+12. Odd, huh? So, feeling much happier, although I am quite nauseous...
Will keep in touch and look forward to seeing birth announcements.

Amberc · 04/07/2008 20:48

hedgehog/UDC I didn't realise that was a lot of blood loss - looked at my notes and I lost 600ml of blood but they never mentioned a transfusion to me - was stuck with iron tablets which gave me black rock hard poo.

AFter all my going on about Luke being a really good baby since the cranial osteopathy, he's had a terrible day today screaming non stop for no reason (well not that we know). It's horrid when you can't comfort your baby especially when you start to get annoyed and you know it's not his fault.

hedgehog1979 · 04/07/2008 20:53

Amber sympathies with the rock hardness and scariness of the black poo. No one had warned me about that. Luckily I had my mum here (she used to be a nurse) and I mentioned it to her and she reassured me

hellbell · 04/07/2008 21:08

On the subject of -ahem- black solid poo and iron tablets. I was recommended Floradix by a midwife, which is a herbal tonic with iron. It doesn't taste too bad and it doesn't make your -ahem- poo go hard. it is easier to absorb than tablets. TMI?

NumbBum · 04/07/2008 21:10

Congratulations ktpie midwives can be really intimidating, you're a goodin' for sticking to your guns and trusting your instincts.

I got a sweep there on tues past and have been having period like cramps and what i think must be shows but not sure since. Keep getting the most god-awful pain shooting down my backside into my leg this evening, something to do with the baby pressing against a nevre apparently. roll on Friday till i get induced!

Upsidedowncake · 04/07/2008 21:46

Glad I'm not the only black poo girl! I lost about 1200 ml. Fave snack is apricots and black chocolate eaten together - deals with potential constipation and high in iron.

DQ, good luck for tomorrow.

Laura, when is yours?

debinaustria · 04/07/2008 21:53

Congratulations Ktpie on the safe arrival of your little boy, and well done for trusting your instincts. Sounds like you have a high pain threshold - I shouted and grunted a lot and normally I'm a very quiet person!!

Numbum - welcome, hope baby arrives soon

Just tried the hot water bottle in cot idea but Ethan's having none of it. Could be a long night , I'm determined to get him in the cot for at least some of tonight wish me luck

Rolf · 04/07/2008 21:56

congratulations ktpie . Well done for being so sensible and assertive in a difficult situation. I hope you are very proud of yourself, although I bet you'll carry on having the cold shivers about it for a long time to come. Look forward to hearing what his name is.

at all the bleeders out there. I find fluradix and spatone both very effective and much gentler on the system than iron tablets, but I've only ever been slightly anaemic in pregnancy (Hb of 9ish minimum) and not had blood loss like that. UDC 1200ml - you must be practically transparent

bitofadramaqueen · 04/07/2008 21:57

Congratulations ktpie - I knew you'd gone and beaten me to it!!!! Am I now the most overdue of the overdue crew now? Will have to go back and check.

Was chatting to my mum today (who had told me we were all late, but she wasn't induced) however it transpired that with me she was given an enema and castor oil (which I guess would have been a form of induction back then) and the docs broke her waters with my siblings. If I'd known that I would have expected to be in this situation all along!

Ah well, not to worry. I quite like the idea that I now know exactly when I'll be going into hospital etc.

Laura I bet that you will beat me to it! Strange how protocols so different at different hospitals. I really hope it all goes well for you.

Do any of the overdue crew have, ahem, very sore undercarriages? (Sorry, I know I'm obsessed with mine) - mine is now unbearably sore and uncomfortable.

Welcome numbum sympathies on the overdue front!

hellbell good for you, but at the idea that the doctor will chat to you about whether you can go to +14. You can go over +14 if you want to. If you haven't already read up on the NICE guidelines that whinegums was talking about and stick to your guns (unless you feel absolutely ready to go with induction at +14).

Well the house is spotless, got some shopping to do in the morning and I'm ready to go!

Iron - I took iron tablets for 3 days and then got a phone call from the midwife telling me to stop (and I had anyway, because I couldn't deal with the black stools...they are so disturbing!)

Penguin - not that I'm an expert, but what's the problem with the breasfeeding? I found it really, really hard, and spent almost two weeks crying on Iestyn's head. But it gets better. I was in agony until about 2 days ago with massive rock hard boobs too. So I'm not claiming that I can give any advice at all, but I'm recently through the pain barrier if that helps...

BTW, I'm in London now - with an unsettled baby, it was a nightmare journey! - and will be in touch with fellow Londoners shortly.

Back to the nappy board...we have a problem!

josey · 04/07/2008 22:57

Evening All
Ktpie congrats

Been having a great time with Olivia at home though nights are a bit scary, she seems to be quite active and we have to keep checking she isnt fitting. She sleeps well during the day so its possible that she needs noise to to sleep as obviously it was far from quiet in NNU!! She was really responsive today listening to her sister is fits of giggles(aided with mummies tickly fingers)but she was desprate to see what was going on.

I was tought baby CRP yesterday gulp but needs must, if she has a fit and I have to give her a special medicine it can sometimes affect there resps!

AH yes its ARI stitching sure of it, though my stitches feel ok I went to the park the other day then walked to the school etc, when I came home I had some bleeding. MW said she hates they way they have started stitching, aparently they fold the skin in a flap then do 1 long runner stitch as meant to heal better CRAP!!!

Well My milk has vanished since Olivia has come home which is quite sad. But I suppose I cant stay glued to a box forever.

Anway happy waiting happy inductions and happy babying love Josey

sophiewd · 05/07/2008 08:01

Morning all.

Ktpie sorry about the mix up was in a hurry.

Josie we have the same problem, Basil has his nights and days mixed up so spent yesterday waking him every 3 hours for a feed, we took him out last night, came home fed 11pm and then he woke once at 3am and then 6.30. Will do the same today to see if we can get the same result.

And OMG I had forgotten what it is like to have a hangover. Went out to see Shaking Stevens last night (free ticket and next door village) tanked down white wine as can't drive at the moment and my head hurts this morning.

Amberc · 05/07/2008 08:24

sophiewd I LOVE the fact you went to see shakey! What was it like being drunk? I still can't face alcohol - had half a glass of wine last weekend and it just didn't taste like it used to.

Re babies not going into their cots. MW and HV told me to put in an item of clothing I had been wearing all day so it had my smell - didn't work for me but may work for others. Also we were given a super fluffy shag pile fleece blanket which I put in the moses basket to cover the hard mattress that was already in there and the baby doesn't dseem to mind going in there so much (he likes my bed on top of the duvet cos it's soft and warm so tried the same principle.

Might have a few babies this weekend me thinks...? Bloody awful weather here in London. Sorry Essie!!

debinaustria · 05/07/2008 08:33

Have you had to cook breakfast too with a hangover? I feel so sorry for you Sophie
lol

I'm still in a bit of pain when bfeeding especially on the right side, my nipples appear to be different sizes and shapes - and Ethan struggles to latch on to the right one.Still feels like he's sucking pins out of my bipple when he 1st latches on.

Actually managed Ethan in the cot for about 2 hours last night - a breakthrough.I tried swaddling - he kicked it off, I tried hot water bottles - they cooled down before I could get him settled, so eventually I gave him a quick top up , persevered with the dummy, popped him in the cot and patted his shoulder for a few minutes - like I used to do with Tristan and it worked - hurrah!!!

Now tonight, I just have to get the energy to replace him in his cot after the feeds in the night.

Do I have the only 2-3 weeker that's only going 2 hours between feeds?

debinaustria · 05/07/2008 08:34

Morning Amber - how was your night?

debinaustria · 05/07/2008 08:38

Who was it that recently was treated for thrush? I'm wondering if I have it, will inspect Ethans mouth when he wakes up for white patches.

sophiewd · 05/07/2008 08:51

Weird being drunk.

Debs - yes but it wasn't too bad better than what it was at 3.30am.

And I love the natures nest, he is sleeping really well in it and out of our bed.

Rolf · 05/07/2008 09:09

Sophie - what was Shakey like? It's so brilliant that you went to see him! I've had the odd drink but not yet managed a proper hangover.

Poor Thea has a cold. I feel so sorry for her. DH and I have colds as well so I guess it was inevitable. She's all snuffly and snotty.

We've just made a decision about our holiday. We booked it about 18 months ago and I think the cottage will be a bit too small for all of us, especially if the weather is bad (and it's in Wales so there's every chance!). So we've decided that DH and the boys will go and I'll stay at home with the 2 girls. It feels very odd to say that - after being outnumbered for the past few years we've now got an equal balance between the sexes! DH offered to take DD1 but I reckon the boys will really benefit from time with DH and there will be so much more they can do if it's just the older children. We still haven't organised a new car so it will also mean DH can take our tiny crap car rather than spend £1000 on renting a people carrier for the week. I'll try to arrange some help with DD1 for the sake of my sanity and hers too.

Essie - you've got your big lecture next week, haven't you? Is your DH going to be able to mind Iestyn? I'm very impressed that you've managed to replace the placenta brain with something more intellectual (assuming you have!).

Deb - do you have stabbing pains in your breast tissue (like needles buried deep in there)? I'm afraid I don't have any advice as when I had it with DS2 my GP was useless about it, but I think there are some helpful threads here about it. Hope you don't have it. It's horribly painful.

whinegums · 05/07/2008 10:09

Morning, well done Sophie on the hangover front! And the Shaky front too - - I had a bit of a crush on him many years ago.... Anyone who whacks Richard Madeley is good with me!

Sorry to hear about those struggling with stitches/feeding/sleep - I've got all that to come.

Josey, it's so good to hear about you and Olivia at home.

HellBell, don't be pushed into an induction if it's not what you want. If everything is ok with baby, fluid levels, placenta, etc - which your hospital have to monitor if you refuse induction - you can wait. It was so good to speak to sensible midwife yesterday, after the conversation I'd had with the doctor earlier this week. He wanted to get me booked in, she was great, and actually said she'd prefer me to wait. I can't remember if I posted this yesterday, the longest she's had someone go over their EDD was 25 days! And everything was fine. Also, if I change my mind, and I do want to go for induction, that's fine too.

No sign of anything happening for me today - DQ, I think I'm the most overdue - T+15! I'm excited for you and Laura - can't wait to hear about your babies, and sending you both lots of good labour vibes and hugs for later.

Amberc · 05/07/2008 10:14

Deb my night was great - DP did the night shift from 10pm to 6.30am and slept in the living room with luke so I got some proper sleep for a change - actually feel like a human today - he said he'll do it again tonight - hurrah! Also spoke to a lovely night nanny yesterday so am hoping that she can do 2 nights a week starting from prob the week after next for a mnth to take me through the worst period and get me used to sleeping again (have got so used to being awake my sleep rhythm is screwed and I find it difficult to 'sleep to order').

Just reading Gina Ford contented baby 1st year - hmmm - kind of assumes babie are machines you can turn on and off at different times. I also wish they'd condensed it into couple of page with timings i.e. 7am feed, 7-8 entertain baby, 8-10am sleep...

PS found a way the baby will sleep no problem in his moses basket but potentially not advised. He likes to be put on a large pillow next to me when he's fallen asleep on me. I can then take the pillow and put it in his basket and he doesn't even wake up. As long as I keep a close eye on him figure this is OK right? It's bigger than the basket so the edges come up the sides so no wy he can roll out.

jules43 · 05/07/2008 10:16

So sorry I have not been posting for a while, I gave birth to baby Louie on 20/6/08.

I was keeping updated prior to birth looking at Mumsnet but the last 2 weeks have been a whirlwind.

Sore cracked nipples and can't sit down, he weighed 7lbs but has dropped to 6lbs 9oz as my BF was so painful the first 10 days or so cheese grater on boobs OUCH

hellbell · 05/07/2008 10:16

Morning all! Sophie, I take my hat off to you! Shakey and wine in the same evening? Go girl! Any chance of a snooze this pm? LOL!
Hi boadq. Good morning!
whinegums Who was T+25? Goodness that's the stuff of legend! I shan't be bullied, don't worry. I am getting good vibes from you lot!
What happened with Shakey and Richard Madeley? I missed that.

sophiewd · 05/07/2008 10:28

Shaky was good, I won't rush to see him again, but it was fun, 2 weeks we are doing Camp Bestival so good practice, although we are cheating at that one and staying with my parenst who live next door to where they are having it. The organisers have rented our house so we have a fortnight of which I am so looking forward to. Our party animal DD has gone back to bed, will probably not get any sleep today but will catch up tomorrow.

Right beds to do.

Congratulations Jules

Morning

Just on to say good luck to the induction crew. Will be thinking of you.

Paro - I've decided to stop following the guidelines re what babies should wear to bed. Storm is naturally a 'hot' baby (like her mum) and always gets too hots if I go by the temp guidelines of what she should wear. I never put her in 'one more layer than an adult' either as she just overheats in five minutes flat.
Older people tend to think babies should wear more, according to my mum, who kept me in a nappy and nothing else during the hot summer when I was born and frequently got told off by little old ladies(but her HV approved)

Storm is now sleeping brilliantly since we put her in the dropside cot two days ago. It takes a third to half the time to settle her it used to so we are all getting more sleep and very happy for it. She'll also drift in and out of sleep better, whereas in the moses basket she'd wake up very easily rather than doze - I guess it was much less comfy.
We think we're going to keep her on the sheepskin, at least until she can roll over. My community MW actually recommended it weeks ago and I really wish I'd listened sooner, but I was worried about whether it was 'kosher' or not... I think it's ok as long as it's got a fitted sheet over it.

ktpie congrats! Can't believe all the 9lbers - Storm is 9lb now at a month old and feels massive. Glad you stuck to your guns - trusting your own instinct is so important I think. Hope your stitches heal nicely.

sophie at Shaky. My childhood hero also...

PP re FF. I was BF exclusively and am riddled with allergies, as are my brothers . I'm still BFing Storm but on the hard nights I've wanted to switch desperately. I've stuck with it by telling myself I'll give it another 24 hours before I change and each time things have improved on the next feed or the one after. But it is (a) KNACKERING and (b) a PITA. Although sometimes it's lovely feeding her I won't miss it when I stop - plus I can tell my boobs are going to be ruined ...

whinegums · 05/07/2008 11:48

Shaky 'attacks' Madeley - many years ago, pre- Judy I think!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9sAunVolEs

One too many sherbets involved I reckon. Can't believe how many of us were childhood Shaky fans, yet another reason I'm so glad I'm on this thread. Never meet anyone else in RL, or not anyone who's prepared to admit it!

Hellbell, not sure who the T+25 lady in question was - someone in Glasgow anyway.

TGF, that's excellent about Storm sleeping well.

Congratulations Jules!
