Wow wonder how Bealcain is feeling.

I don't even know how to pronounce her name in my head when I am thinking of her.

What news, dizzy one?

I can STRONGLY advise all of you to get crutches as it works wonders on the pity-expressed-by-Minstrels front!

VintageGardenia · 01/07/2008 22:11

Although come to think of it he must have had the Minstrels before he saw the crutches... Yes Sazzles I'll just prod him with my crutch and he'll put the kettle on again. alas Minstrels got polished off in about 20 seconds and I cannot share. DS would be disgusted!!

Ooh I've got an embarrassing new symptom (and cautionary tale) - nappy rash! Seems I am rather slack on the old pelvic floor front (oh hooray for relaxin) and today's slightly soggy knickers have left me sore bits on either side. So I'm now testing out Waitrose Baby Bottom cream for it's actual intended purpose (instead of anti-wrinkle cream.)

dizzydixies · 01/07/2008 22:24

sorry for nipping on then disappearing give me a second to go to loo then I'll catch you all up

longwayfromhome · 01/07/2008 22:25

yes, instant coffee most of the time, not very highbrow here, also decaf, and I agree that I can't tell the difference ... I was more laughing gently at my mum saying that I was never very quiet in the same breath as telling me that she drank lots of coffee ...

Did I say that the local equivalent of a mars bar is called a milky way, is made by Hershey's and is quite pricely by local standards (probably what I would expect to pay in London, although this makes sense as it is maybe imported).

longwayfromhome · 01/07/2008 22:30

PS I would just pronounce bealcain beal to rhyme with seal and cain to sound the same as cane

I hope that she is doing OK. Sounds like her husband is at home and can see enough to type, which is good news

Does Gardenia have a long or short e?

longwayfromhome · 01/07/2008 22:30

Hope everything went OK dizzy.

dizzydixies · 01/07/2008 22:32

another farking 3hr hosp visit today (I have wasting time waiting grump grump mumble) scanned again - all fine, big baby no surprise there. off to diabetic clinic where blood pressure etc all checked and all spot on

have been given one of the pen things to monitor blood sugar levels and advice re diet (apparently magnum whites are on the NO list ) and have to go back in a week

levels to be between 4 - 6 and so far today have been 4.3, 6.1 and 5.1 so doing ok I think

mammydixie on the other hand is going downhill very quickly hence my absence, organising visits/phone calls etc

she was moved to the palliative care ward and is now under heavy sedation - my poor dad is in pieces. this ward has no set visiting hours, he can be there all the time if he wants to and has been told they'll phone him during the night if she deteriorates any more

I'm going down first thing in morning once I've dropped girls at nursery and dh will just have to step up to the plate in the meantime bless him

anyway, sorry for bleating me post again

VG sorry to hear you're on crutches, am sending you all my chocolate to help with that

hazie thank you for thinking of me this morning, am sorry I haven't had a chance to reply - has been a bit of a hectic day

welcome all new - am not normally this maudlin

longwayfromhome · 01/07/2008 22:36

dizzie, good news about the diabetes, and really sorry to hear the news about your mum. Sending thoughts and prayers.

VintageGardenia · 01/07/2008 22:46

Oh am sending thoughts to all of you, dizzy. It's great that your dad can be with your mum as much as possible, though of course there are additional strains that go along with that. Have your girls had a good relationship with your mum - if so this is something to be thankful for, that they have known each other in the good days. I do hope the next few days are a bit easier on you. You are not maudlin at all. You spend a lot of time looking after other people's needs & I hope too that before babba comes you get at least a few days but preferably a week with no-one to look after but yourself. Hugs.

Sazzles I sent DP up with your tea ages ago and he's not come back did I mention he has a bit of thing for hairnets...

lwfh I say "gar-dinn-ee-a" though I am not often called it in real life, all it means is my favourite Jo Malone perfume!

VintageGardenia · 01/07/2008 22:49

dizzy I hope there was nothing in that post that was clumsy.

We have Milky Ways! I thought everywhere had them. They are like a lighter version of the non-toffee bit of a Mars (also like a Flyte (?) I think only nicer. I love em.

VintageGardenia · 01/07/2008 23:28

Night all. Buckets at your rash, hope the miracle butter is as good there as it's meant to be elsewhere! TS hope your tour was fun.

Hasta manana.

TwilightSurfer · 02/07/2008 02:33

Buckets, baby rash stuff should work wonderfully. Desitin is what works for DD. Isn't it funny how baby products help us so much....what did we do before we had kids?? I just can't imagine life without baby wipes..can anyone else.

Maternity Ward tour went well. DD was EXTREMELY well behaved. Before it started she and I popped into the gift shop and purchased a t-shirt for the baby with DH's favorite college football team logo on it. The ward is entirely on one floor (just as I remember). The L&D room was as big as my living room and dining room combined (about 550 square feet) with an entire wall of windows looking out over the city (Chattanooga) and/or the Tennessee river (depending on which side your room is on). All Suites were full so we didn't get to see one. I just have to remember to go to the 5th floor....elevator E for Triage, F for Food and D for delivery. The tour guide kept saying "your wife won't remember any of this" HA! I beg to differ...my father, my mother and I AAAALLLLLL worked in the hospital at one time or another. I'LL REMEMBER!! DH on the other hand will be calling me on his cell phone from the first floor while I'm in labor, I bet.

Morning all.

Dizzy hope that you manage to get some time to rest. Can't be easy at the moment. My thoughts are with you.

CC - would also like to be paired up with someone but ditto lwfh's comments on being on the other side of the planet so texting might be a bit out of the question! Will try to persuade DH to bring his blackberry with him but knowing Singapore the delivery rooms are probably wi-fi enabled

Have also developed a sweet tooth that I didn't have before hoping it will disappear again after birth [hmmm]

Am thinking that it is typical that as soon as I move away from SW19 (not the village as not that well off just in the postcode) that the weather manages to be fine for once!

AnnVan · 02/07/2008 08:02

Question for TS - been dying to ask an American lady this, so please scuse if it seems ignorant. In all the movies etc, women always give birth lying on backs in bed? Does this reflect reality or do US ladies have a little more choice?? (Please don't laugh)

oopsacoconut · 02/07/2008 08:20

Dizzy - Sending you {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, Strength and Prayers for you and the family. Please look after yourself whilst looking after others.

bigboydiditandranaway · 02/07/2008 08:28

Having mw visit today to do b.plan and check if baby is breech (as mw thought it was 2 wks ago) will mw book me in for a scan if she thinks baby is still breech or will they try and string it out and ask me to make another appointment for next week (when regular mw comes back of hols) Can i say i would prefer to be scanned sooner if she says wait another week?

pregnancy1 · 02/07/2008 09:48

Oooh - just wanted to share my v exciting news...... actually, I think I need to get a life. It's not that exciting.....
Anyway, just ordered my nappies for bean and had the best customer service in the world ever! If anyone is thinking of using real nappies try - www.cleangreennappy.co.uk They are so helpful! Spent lots of time talking or emailing you (whichever you prefer) to make sure you get what you want. then, when I wanted a product that they didn't stock (and I couldn't find anywhere) they ordered it especially for me. Plus they do a 20% discount if you spend over a hundred pounds so, as I used my real nappy for london vuohcer (£30) plus the discount I got a complete size 1 bamboo nappy kit (normally £159.99) for less than a hundred pounds!

Is it wrong to be this excited about nappies?

PS Promise I don't work for them or have any connection with them. Reasised I sound like a salewoman

bigboydiditandranaway · 02/07/2008 09:48

is there anybody there....have you all gone back to bed?

pregnancy1 · 02/07/2008 09:51

Sorry bigboy I have a terrible habit of not referring to the previous post if I don't know the answer and instead rambling away. It's my first baby so i don't have a clue..... am sure the others will be back with more helpful information soon......

Right, off to a thrilling 3 hour meeting. Whose idea was it to keep working until I was 37/38 weeks?

CaptainCaveman · 02/07/2008 09:55

VG and there's me calling you Gar-dean-e-a for all these months! . I stand corrected and will now address you properly!

I'm off to work shortly - not to do any actual work you understand, just to say "so long" to my colleagues and then we are going out for lunch to gossip discuss pleasantaries.

Come come ladies, we are all slack-jawed wenches (except Sazzles of course, she offered me out in a fight y'know!! )
