Paro , glad to hear everything is okay now - Fleur certainly decided to make a grand entrance into the world!

Upsidedowncake as sonn as the baby was born I asked for pain killers so I would feel the after pains. I was given co-dyramol and made sure I the effect didn't wear off for a few days as they also gave me some to tkae home. The times when it did start wearing off it was painful. I thought I had stopped bleeding then last week I had really bad afterpains and bleed a fair bit, the pains then were quite bad!

The dr said my pain is in the ligaments and unfortuatley the best treatment is rest which she also said is impossible with a newborn! She told me to take paracetamol and use nuerofen gel to ease the pain. I don't really want to ake anymore drugs though as I had antibiotics in labour, baby had some at birth, then I had an ear infection so I had more antibiotics and as I'm breastfeeding I don't want to give baby anymore drugs in my milk!!! She said it may calm down by my 6 week check as I will have less of the pregnancy hormones (most likely cause), if not she will refer me for physio.

bun2 sorry to hear about the rubbishness of your consultant - definitely echo whoever said talk to your mw as it does seem ridiculous given your medical history

not to have that level of comfort/support for what should be a relatively simple thing to discuss.

sophiewd hanging out book threads and also the apprentice thread..glad to hear your a fan too.. thought last night was most entertaining. New car sounds lovely.

lorretah other thing we were told to move things along were long walks if you feel up to it..

Burst of energy this morning that resulted in walk to supermarket after nct tea seems to be vanishing... as does good intentions re eating heathily (chances of me walking past chocolate in the cupboard were always slim). Might try and soak up some sun and read some of my book

bun2 · 05/06/2008 13:31

Congratulations Paro, certainly does not sound like the most straightforward of births but at least you and Fleur are doing well.

Feeling much better now thank you after speaking to MW and my lovely lady Dr. I think the lack of sleep recently does not help.

Essie3 - LOL at your post. Thanks for cheering me up.

I'm off for a nap now ladies. Ciao for now.

alipalli · 05/06/2008 13:50

Arghh - just managed to lose a post before I had posted it.

Paro welcome back. Your birth story made me quite emotional, love the pictures of Fleur. Isn't she gorgeous. Deb here is the link to Fleur's blog

BDQ laughed at the idea that I am laid back. If only you knew me!

Essie told DH about you buying a toothbrush for the grout to prove that I am not nesting (I had mowed the grass yesterday which I don't think counts as it is outside). He brightened up and said that he had noticed our grouting is beginning to discolour so maybe I could clean it!

poppy34 · 05/06/2008 13:58

essie lol re grouting.. when midwife mentioned that might not only be nesting before baby but keen to do hoovering/keep house neat afterwards dh started to laugh and said that'll never happen

Josie57 · 05/06/2008 14:18

On the nesting front - I decided that the garage HAD to be swept out and the moss scraped off the drive outside the garage . I think this makes your obsession with grouting seem perfectly rational!

Only a few hours left at work and I am bored, bored, bored! At least the weather looks like it will be ok tomorrow - hurrah.

Paro - sounds like your birth was quite eventful but what a wonderful little girl you have now!

Upsidedowncake · 05/06/2008 15:19

My nesting seems to involve about 5-10 minutes a day of doing stuff for the baby's room and then a nice long nap. So maybe not nesting then?

ktpie · 05/06/2008 15:29

I've just got back from the hospital. Scan was fine, baby is head down, phew! And ready to come out! Estimated weight at the moment is 7lb 9oz (am 37+4) and she said they put on an ounce a day at this stage so looks like it will be a whopper (all those creme eggs!). Hoping it doesn't go overdue just because of the size it will be by then.

Paro - sounds like hard work! Glad to hear you are both fine. Fleur is gorgeous!

I wish you would all stop reminding me that our grout needs cleaning. Should have done it before the pics were taken yesterday but seemed like far too big a job. DH has been cleaning the bath recently (I can't reach in anymore!) so maybe I can palm the grout cleaning off on him as well.
I had enough of cleaning to last me a while yesterday.

alipalli · 05/06/2008 15:31

Just lost my post before I posted it AGAIN. Having a bad pregnabrain day.

Back from the MW. If I am still waiting in a week I will have a sweep at my next appointment (41+5) and they will book me in for an induction the following week (42+?)

I was also told that I'm all out front and for this reason:

  • It's going to be a boy
  • It's going to take "alot of hard work" to get by abdominal muscles back in shape

Nice MW did have a word with the bump and told it that it was time to come out.

Going to watch telly now and eat the Anzac biscuits that I made this morning.

ktpie · 05/06/2008 15:43

Alipalli - was it the midwife who said that about your abdominal muscles? Not really what you want to hear right now! Mine seems to be all out front as well.

How often are people having midwife appointments now? I had one this week at 37 weeks and was surprised when she said my next wouldn't be for 2 weeks at 39 weeks. Seems a long time, I could have had it by then. Although they do seem to be really busy, they have to keep squeezing my appointments in at funny times.

Upsidedowncake · 05/06/2008 15:51

Ktpie - good news about your scan! My appointments are once every two weeks at the moment (36 weeks, 38 weeks, 40 weeks, 41 weeks ...)

Allipalli - charming MW! Did you know you were having a boy before?

Josie57 · 05/06/2008 15:55

KTpie - my midwife appointments have been at 37 weeks and then at 39 weeks (next week), then after that I am seeing the hospital at 40 weeks.

As for the all out front theory for boys, I have a friend who carried all out front for two pregnancies and she had one boy and one girl so it's not always true. But am secretly hoping it is as I was all out front last time and had a boy and am all out front this time and would like another boy! As for the abdominal muscles mine seemed to go back to normal fine last time, dare I admit, without sounding like I am gloating, quicker than last time!

bitofadramaqueen · 05/06/2008 15:57

Afternoon all, just back from the mw's. Some of you may recall that my mw is mad as a brush and v annoying... Well today, I heard all about her holiday (interested - NOT!), I finally managed to get a word in edgeways and she confirmed that it sounded like I did have carpal tunnel syndrome and then went on to tell me that she had it and still had problems now (just what I wanted to hear - NOT). She did agree that most people recover from it quickly after birth when I asked her this though.

She told me I'm measuring about right (so presumably almost 38cms but who knows, then she went on to point out where the baby's bum and back was, which funnily enough from my movements for ooh, the last 10 weeks, are exactly where the baby's limbs are!!! She had another feel and decided the back was at the other side and I'm definitely not back to back but tbh, not much confidence. I asked her re: engagement and she said I was probably 4/5 to 3/5 but again, not inspired!

ktpie my next appt is in 2 weeks which will be two days before my due date so in the same boat as you. Local policy is that they wont induce before 10 days overdue (unless problems etc) and even then it's up to the individual so I was at least pleased about that.

Paro - lovely to hear from you, sounds like your labour was hard work, Fleur is lovely though so I'm sure all worth it!

Essie I was thinking of you when I was in the shower earlier as our grouting could do with a good clean!

UDC - my nesting is about the same as yours.

alipalli · 05/06/2008 16:01

Ktpie my appointments have been fortnightly so far, but will go to weekly now that I am at 40 weeks. Agree that at this stage it does seem like a long gap though.

It was the MW who said that about my abs being especially knackered. Hurray - lots of sit ups for me!

UDC We didn't find out at the scan whether it is a boy or girl. The MW was only basing her prediction on me being all out front - an old wifes' tale I think. One the the PAs at work has been saying this for months, so I am not too worried that she has stolen the surprise from me as it's not exactly grounded in science!

emotionalwreck · 05/06/2008 16:24

Afternoon all,

prepare for a rant......

Been to hospital today for further internal, bp check and ctg. Those of you around earlier will know I had my show last night, so I thought things were moving but it appears not... Cervix still posterior if soft but not open for business. Midwife doubts I'll go into labour before tuesday when my next appt is. Everything else, including ctg is normal.

Rang DP to update him and all he could effing say is "Oh great. Was hoping you'd have had it before Tuesday. That means I'm going to have to take some customers our for dinner, and they're a right bunch of wan*ers"

To which I replied "How about telling your wan*er boss you don't need to be an hours drive away when I'll be 6 days overdue by then?"

He is now sulking in the bedroom and I am

aberdeenhiker · 05/06/2008 16:27

Hi, I've news from josey via her husband and now from her on email (I didn't want to say anything until I heard from her but she asked me to give you all her love) - she had a baby girl yesterday morning. Unfortunately there were some complications during the birth and her baby is currently in intensive care at the hospital here and they are waiting to find out how she is. A collective thread hug and some prayers/love sent her way would probably be very good right now!

emotionalwreck · 05/06/2008 16:29

OK - now feeling alot less angry and very concerned for Josie. Love, best wishes, prayers and hugs being sent.........

ktpie · 05/06/2008 16:35

Glad to hear that 2 weeks is the normal gap between appointments at this stage, but it seems like a long time to me, I think I was expecting them to be weekly from now on.

DQ - I'm afraid your post made me feel really relieved at how nice my midwife is. She suggested a scan as soon as she wasn't 100% sure which way round it was. I'm now happy that it is the right way round, plus I got a 3D pic of it's very chubby cheeked face (looks a bit squashed in to be honest).

Alipalli - your midwife sounds like another one who isn't exactly reassuring.

emotionalwreck - I'd be annoyed if my DH was expected to be further away if I was overdue. Is there someone else who can take them out for dinner? He has a pretty good excuse.
Hope that things get moving for you.

emotionalwreck · 05/06/2008 16:39

ktpie His boss should go in his place but he is a lazy sh*t. Apologies for all the asterisks but feeling very tourette-ish!

pleasechange · 05/06/2008 16:42

bitofadramaqueen i'm not very impressed by my mw either. I really do feel like I'm taking up too much of her time if I ask something. She tells me the bare minimum and her answers are so vague it's useless. All the other mw's at the hospital seem really nice but I think I got the least helpful one!

PregnantPenguin · 05/06/2008 16:42

Congrats Paro! Feur is a lovely name. She looks gorgeous and so tiny next to you and Mr Paro. How cute?

Goingfor3 - Sorry you're still in pain. Hope things improve v v v soon.

Nothing happening this end Essie - how about you? Re: grouting, you're right, newborns do get disturbed at imperfectly cleaned tiles! NB: I previously decided to clean ours with bleach (pre pregnancy), but used thick bleach and dyed it all blue! Bizarrely that was just before my wedding day, was I nesting then? Or just pretending that I was going to be a domestic godess?

Josie - scrapping moss off drive!? I am both impressed and terrified at your nesting!

Ali - Not reassuring when M/W's resort to old wives tales is it? Re: abs, part of me loves the idea of just being able to do sit ups again, but I'm sure that'll wear off after the first day or so. Mmm, homemade anzac biccies, yum yum. Can you send some virtual ones over please! (Really will need to do sit ups now) Are you of antipodean descent?

KTPie - Looks like it's two weeks for us all but a bit different depending where you are again...my appointments were 36 (MW) then 38 weeks (GP), next ones at 40 weeks (GP) and 41 weeks (MW)...

Dramaqueen - You MW sounds rather unhelpful to say the least! I'm with you and UDC re: lazy nesting , lost all enthusiasm now. Especially as I hope not to be here for much longer, will clean new house instead.

PregnantPenguin · 05/06/2008 16:46

Forgot to say, had lunch with a friend and then bought DH's 1st Father's day card and present today. Ended up getting a cheesey 'Charm from Dad' babygro from gap, but because it was just for father's day, it seemed ok somehow.

We have pretty much everything we need, but are being asked what people should buy as presents. Does anyone have any frivilous suggestions?

PregnantPenguin · 05/06/2008 16:48

Poor Josie - sending love and prayers for her, DH and her little one.

PregnantPenguin · 05/06/2008 16:49

Obviously I meant Josey. Not that I don't love you too Josie!
