spongebrainbigpants · 02/06/2008 14:18

oh, and on the point of babies needing help getting to the breast, have you seen that NCT video where the baby is placed on the mum's stomach immediately after birth and CRAWLS to mum's breast on his own!!

absolutely amazing - maybe they're not as helpless as we think!

whinegums · 02/06/2008 14:22

Hi everyone. Too much to catch up with again! Went to a breastfeeding workshop this morning, which was ok. I'm not convinced how much these things help - suppose it's like been told how a car works before you learn to drive - none of it makes sense until you actually get in the car for the first time.

Am supposed to be packing hospital bag today (sort of put stuff in piles yesterday) and arranging bedroom for monster. But here I am on MN instead... Am bribing myself with a strawberry cream scone - I am NOT allowed to eat it until I do something useful this afternoon!!!!

LauraT · 02/06/2008 14:24

I've mainly enjoyed being pregnant, but I think that's because I've been so lucky and haven't been unwell at all really. this forum reminds me daily that I'm lucky as some of you have had such a lot of problems, makes my slight discomfort and tiredness seem a lot more manageable!

on the other hand, the next bit sounds like hard work. I have just been traumatised on the NCT shop website by this please tell me that everyone else thinks that this looks like an instrument of torture and no sane woman would use one??? It makes me think of cows....

systemsaddict · 02/06/2008 14:26

Think you're right whinegums, I completely forgot everything from the antenatal breastfeeding workshop I went to last time! But it was still useful having gone, it gave me things to be 'reminded' of once I got started, rather than feeling I was doing it completely from scratch.

emotionalwreck · 02/06/2008 14:26

PMSL - that is the most ridiculous contraption ever. She should be ironing and mopping the floor at the same time!

Upsidedowncake · 02/06/2008 14:26

All new, I too have a urine infection and the hospital has lost two sets of my results! Am getting prescription this afternoon anyway and doing a (hopefully) final round of tests. Grrrr.

Interesting re aircon and hot weather. Oour baby's room is usually about 21 degrees and I think we will get blinds to keep the room cool.

SIDS, in UK, two best ways of avoiding it are by not smoking and by laying the baby on its back in the feet to foot position

systemsaddict · 02/06/2008 14:29

Laura after expressing for 8 months last time (went back to work quite early) I look at that and think, ooh, could double pump and email at the same time - must bookmark that page!

Lorettah · 02/06/2008 14:30

OMG I can't imagine having to put up with another month of pregnacy - or longer!!

I really need to hoover the front room but can't seem to lift my backside off the sofa!!

right must start work on my to do list otherwise I'll have been sat here all day doing nothing!!

Upsidedowncake · 02/06/2008 14:41

Oops. Sorry some computer malfunction. Have a nice evening everyone. MS story is amazing.

alipalli · 02/06/2008 15:03

We were shown the same contraption at the NCT BF class Laura much mirth ensued. I also agree with you that this thread has made me really appreciate how lucky I have been with the pregnancy when I hear about what some of you are going through. The first trimester was a bit grim especially loaded with anxiety from a threatened m/c, but Jan through to Easter was pretty good for me. Last few weeks have been wearying because I am fed up of not being able (or wanting to) go out and do stuff, but all in all I think I am bearing up quite well.

Failed to make any inroads with the blog today as there have been so many posts here to distract me!

Amberc · 02/06/2008 15:12

Rolf - thanks it's is nice to think of the cycle of birth and death but my mum's was particularly horrific - saw MW today and she said they wouldn't induce for emotional reasons.

However Got a call from the MW today who has been looking at my scan results. Apparently my placenta is Grannam 3 (i.e. a bit clapped out) so I had to go in for a trace on the baby's heart. All is OK though. I also had my cervical sweep - jesus mary and joseph! It's not at all pleasant to say the least but she did say my Bishops score is 2- assume that's good. She shoved what felt like her entire arm up my vagina (actually was just a finger) It hurts!! She told me that she had her finger on the baby's head though - amazing! Now am cr*pping myself about labour although the MW did say that I had a good pain threshold - hmm..... Already got weird things discharging from my nethers bits of blood - yuck.

Amberc · 02/06/2008 15:19

PS reading through some of these comments I am glad my inlaws live abroad!

makecakesnotwar · 02/06/2008 15:43

Hi all- just checking in after first weekend away! Getting the hang of bfing at long last, and getting some really good sleep. Health Visitor came today, and she won't be coming again if I can avoid it....she gave the longest contraception talk ever! Like I'm going anywhere near Mr Cakes any time soon!!!!

Congrats to Paro and anyone else- I'd need a day to catch up with all the chat and I operate in three hour windows these days....

bitofadramaqueen · 02/06/2008 15:48

Hi makecakes - glad the bf is going well now. LOL at the contraceptive advice! Pyjamarama gave birth and we're waiting to hear from the green fairy. Most recent up to date list a page or two before this one if you want a quick update and dont have time to read all the posts.

josey · 02/06/2008 15:50

Afternoon ladies anyone fancy an IceLollie?!

Think I have finally caught up with reading! think we are going to have to limit the amount we are aloud to post in one day lol! Ie 2 posts each!!!

Rolf your MW is a brat I bet she has huge pants on holding all her bits and bobs in, she will be one of these woman that makes you feel like crud to make herself feel better....try not to worry about your tum its the fanjo they will be looking at hun

Peartart both my DCs my body waiting till the most akward time to deliver...maybe thats just me though I like people to run around a bit more to make me feel important lol!

Amber Hi it was me last week 26th May was 5years since my dad died-its also the day before my birthday and I struggle every year. I got myself in such a state this year I started getting regular contractions and had the MW out. I think the only way to look at it which I tried was if it happens on that day its a gift from your MUM.

Essie I have In-Law issues "my bern" is the fav from my MIL who I just cant stomach!
The best at the mo is my SIL today I received a text "no sign of baby yet" em no?! Im not due till Thursday Im I supposed to get a postcard appear out my fanjo to say Im on my way, will arrive at such a time. The reason being though is she goes abroad on holiday on the 7th....now she asked when baby was due for booking holidays so its her own FKn fault....she also did this with DD then expects me to fit in round her!!! Ok sorry that was too long winded really! But she is just a selfish wee cow!

OMG at the double pump t-shirt...its like something out of meet the fukers!

Im starting to get demented here...I keep getting false starts Ive had my than Linford Christie....Last night was a sure fire then bang nothing...Im trying to ignore them as aiming for 40+ but how can you when you keep getting really strong labour symptoms...Its Crap!!!

AH your MIL arrived yet?

Rolf · 02/06/2008 16:13

Essie - let me know which chambers he's looking at up here (if you want to!). DH really likes working here. He has London chambers too.

Amber - really hope I didn't upset you. I'm sorry you have awful memories to live with.

I've really enjoyed this pregnancy too, it's just this last little spell I'm struggling with. The hypnotherapy has been great for keeping me calm. I'm generally not a very calm person (can you tell [hmm})

jules43 · 02/06/2008 16:41

Only 37 + 2 and really want to get it over with! ( whoops bad mother!) Got period like pains and am waddling like a penguin!

Packed my hospital bag but can't remember whats in it, I think the baby has eaten my brain...

congrats to all new mothers, wonder who will be next?

ktpie · 02/06/2008 16:43

Well I've managed to have a nap this afternoon (and did a bit more knitting!). Got some strange pains just before I had my nap so did a panicked run around putting stuff in my bag but the nap seems to have sorted it out. At least I am a little further on with packing.

poppy34 · 02/06/2008 16:45

ktpie - were htey period type pains? been getting them on and off for a couple of days but assuming its just natural for this time of pregnancy.

bitofadramaqueen · 02/06/2008 16:47

Afternoon everyone (dont tell Josey, but I have more than exhausted my limit of two posts per day ).

Have made a very long list of everything I need to get before baby arrives. Well, dont actually need everything before baby arrives, but would like to have it all in IYSWIM?

It's mostly lots of little things but I suspect when I add it all up it will be lots of £'s!!

Am now going to investigate cake making.

Hope everyone having a good afternoon!

sophiewd · 02/06/2008 17:01

Afternoon all - sorry have tried to read thread but just gave up hope everyone is well and not to bored or fed up.

Had a night of last night, DH's friend is staying a few days so we met him in the pub with DD for a drink and she ran around and went to bed very tired. No breakfast this morning but went to Cash and Carry to get all the B&B stuff we need for next 2 months until I can drive again. DH and friend went rifle shooting. Do I have muggins written on my forehead. So have freinds for supper to night, basically fully booked for next 2 weeks and tired, so very tired.

But on a good note, my new car is coming on Thursday so I get to drive it before I can't for 6 weeks.

Right must go and stuff my lamb. Hope everyone has a good night.

Essie3 · 02/06/2008 17:01

Rolf thanks - will check later, would be good to get some input from someone who knows whether they're ok.

DH in a very bad mood today - his bathroom in London is being re-done, and I realised (from a photo he sent) that they'd put the bath in the wrong way round. Plus his Irish citizenship application (long story) appeared to be delayed. Both things sorted now though!

I'm waiting for the building site guys out the back to go, because I'm doing masses of laundry, and I've resorted to wearing some (borrowed) maternity denim dungaree shorts. Shameful.

That top! Oh my god! It's beyond belief - I'm confused though. Why does she need a top? Does she just slowly express throughout the day? Eh??

I'm going to make a strawberry shortcake in a bit. BTW - feet look like someone's taken an air pump to them. Strange - they were ok for a while, but suddenly they're massive. Was it Spongebrain with the same problem? Feels like they're developing stretch marks??

ktpie · 02/06/2008 17:12

Poppy34 - the pains were kind of all round the bottom of the bump and in my pelvis, and started when I washed up. Maybe everything is getting too heavy! Seeing the midwife tomorrow so will check with her.

alipalli · 02/06/2008 17:13

Just to prove that I have achieved something today, here is my new baby blog. I've not tried it out with RL friends yet, so do give me your feedback and I can make some sneaky amendments tomorrow. I'm not completely happy with the title and sub heading, but got fed up of trying to think what to write! DH just kept saying to call it "Ali's baby blog" - no prizes for imagination there.

Where is Aberdeen today? Deb has also been quieter than usual...maybe they are just a bit busier than me.
