Hello SplodgesMum & PearTart. I haven't managed to get into Dirty Sexy Money, but totally agree about Peter Krause (Nate/Nick) being gorgeous...sigh... I have also considered "Nathaniel" as a potential boy's name purely on this basis, but DH says no. I also realised once I was looking for it that there seem to be a lot of Nathans around these days (she says sounding very old), so it isn't quite as unusual as when I was at school and there was one Nathan and one Nathaniel in the entire place.

Really sorry that lots of you have had a rubbishy day. Hopefully your weekends will be better. I am braving a drive round the M25 tomorrow to see my friend who I haven't seen since her baby was 2 weeks old in January. Feeling slightly paranoid about venturing 35 miles from home BY MYSELF, but rationally it should be fine even though I am 38 weeks on Sunday. Wont it?!?!?

Wonder what's happened to Gem. Assuming that things must be moving for her.

Morning all. This is a mega crap start to my birthday - woken up by ds 1 screaming, pelted down to him and he's fast asleep so dunno if it was an animal outside or our cat or what, but now can't get back to sleep. Have got to go to the school for some sort of fete - Maifest - so little chance of rest, oh, and no birthday present off dh to look forward to, he tells me last night. I don't mind per se about the present at all iyswim, only a couple of weeks ago he got me an iPhone which is really a fantastic fab cool toy and bloody brillian to boot, and I don't need anything at all, apart from sleep, and I don't want him to get something just for the sake of it anyway. But at the same time, it would've been nice to have something to open. And some sleep.

Anyone else watching the fa cup final later?

Alipalli, you'll be fine. 35 miles is not that far, really.

Sorry so many people are having unexpected twists and turns and problems to deal with, right at the very end. We're about to start a new thread and by the end of a few weeks, all of us are going to have done the most amazing thing, and be holding the most exciting and wonderful thing in our arms. There is nothing like the feel of a new born's scalp under your lips. I remember with all 3 of mine, I spent the 1st few days constantly brushing my lips against their head's. There is nothing like the feeling, really. Even I am starting to feel clucky. At last

Lorettah · 17/05/2008 07:27

Happy birthday Ernest hope your day gets better!

I went for my scan yesterday, baby's head down 4/5, past the placenta so on for a natural birth. One of the midwives I saw was so sweet, she was really informative about the birth - I kinda wished she was my midwife (also she was a student, so I guess they are always keen)

I've finished work now & I feel so weird, was even a bit teary. Really scared now!

PearTart · 17/05/2008 07:39

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERNEST
[big sparkly balloon emoticon]

(If your DH is anything like mine he does big gestures few and few between, and fewer of the little things. Phone sounds v cool and after your start to the day it can only get better)

Agree about holding a newborn babe- it makes all else pale into insignificance- you've made me feel all erm... maternal now!

debinaustria · 17/05/2008 08:01

Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Ernest,
Happy Birthday to you,

Sorry you've not had the best start to your Birthday . Get the boys to wrap up your iphone and you can unwrap it later. I would be sad with nothing to unwrap.Try to find some time later to have a rest, let dh sort out the boys and you disappear for a while.

You've got me crying about your description of a newborn's soft, downy head - thought you weren't feeling broody

debinaustria · 17/05/2008 08:06

Sophie - , at your busy mornings

Rolf - school party sounded great but you missed virtual drinking here!!

Splodge - tell me about dirty sexy money - is it worth dh downloading for me to watch?

Lorettah - sounds like things are going well for you, it's a weird feeling when you finish work isn't it - make the most of your timenow.

Allipalli - it's not far, stop worrying and go and see your friend, you'll have a lovely time.

Peartart - glad dh is home at last, what are you doing this weekend?

sophiewd · 17/05/2008 08:34

Happy Birthday Ernest

PearTart · 17/05/2008 09:09

This weekend we'll mostly be putting together furniture for DD's room and buying knobs for the new cupboards in the office... Blah blah house stuff. It's like the speed of light- the closer you get to finishing things the longer it takes and the more you find to do. Well at least there's a big important event coming up to make me sit down...

And swimming splashing tomorrow in local pool with DD

DSM is worth it BTW- Donald Sutherland is the patriarch, need I saw more?

What's everyone else up to??

sophiewd · 17/05/2008 09:17

Breakfast - change room, wait for new guests to arrive - that's today

Sunday - brekfast - change rooms, wait for new guests and maybe some gardening

debinaustria · 17/05/2008 09:52

OMG Sophie, I've just done 1 room and I'm done in already!!

splodgesmum · 17/05/2008 09:57

Ernest, happy birthday - hope it improves from now on!

Deb, I think DSM is totally fab and not just cos Nick is gorgeous! It's about a mega-rich family in NY and Nick is the son of their lawyer. The lawyer dies in mysterious circumstances and Nick takes over his role and ends up being dragged into the murky world of the super-rich. There are some great characters in it - esp love the nasty priest with the dodgy past and the twins who think nothing of spending £1 million each on their birthday parties! Total and utter escapism!

Right, I'm off on my hols now - a week chilling out in a cottage in Norfolk. Wonder how many babies will have made an appearance by the time I get back on the 24th?

Have a good week everyone!

sophiewd · 17/05/2008 09:58

DH is my secret weapon he does all the cleaning bathroom and making beds and I dust make sure all the pots are filled, towels etc.

Upsidedowncake · 17/05/2008 09:59

Morning everyone

Sorry to miss the rest of the virtual drinking last night (and the real drinking, Rolf!!), but our internet crashed just as I was passing round vol-au-vents.

Have started a new thread here as we've nearly run out. (Thanks for the votes of confidence in the name!)

Ernest, happy birthday!!!!!

Greenfairy, how are you feeling today?

G43, how did you sleep?

Sophie, busy day

Debs, shame re cider in Austria. You'd think it went well with lederhosen. If you like it, I'd recommend asking your next visitors to bring you some as the non-alcoholic tastes IMO better than the real thing!

Lorettah, exciting re MW visit? Anyone know when second babies engage?

Oh, and guess what? After last week's weird virus, DS has developed chicken pox. We just took him to the pharmacist as it looked as though some of his rash had developed into something and got infected. No, it's chicken pox!

He'll be off nursery until the spots are all scabbed over. I've still got two more weeks of work though, so as last weekend, I will be making some time up today and tomorrow while DH is around.

DS is very cheerful, and being housebound is going to drive him nuts. At least it's out of the way before DC2 arrives, I guess.

debinaustria · 17/05/2008 12:11

Splodge - have a great holiday whilst it's just the 2 of you, meals out, short walks on the coast, long lie ins with breakfast in bed ....
