Not sure if anyone else has started a new thread as our other one ran out of room, but here we go...

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello everyone and especially all the new babies. I haven't been on for a while and there are so many babies already - congratulations to all the parents.

I can't belive we're in May - I'm definitely in the stay-where-you-are camp. We're all prepared, but every time I feel a slightly unusual twinge my first thought is "Not yet!!!". I keep hoping some sort of hormonal fog will descend which will persuade me that the time is right.

I've starting drinking the raspberry leaf tea - doesn't taste bad at all (I'm rubbish at taking tablets and don't drink normal tea so was expecting something quite horrid). Found out on Tuesday that bump is fully engaged - he's still wriggling a lot but fewer massive rolls about, which I guess is to be expected if you've got your head stuck in someone's pelvis .

I've been getting a few short, sharp stabbing pains in the centre of my lower back (especially when sleeping on my side) - anybody know what they might be? They sound a lot like the ones Otter is describing, I wondered if it was just bump bashing a nerve with his head.

baiyu · 02/05/2008 11:27

Morning all!

DP is in the UK, hooray! And tomorrow he'll be actually with me, so excited!

pina So glad you and Evie are dong so well. Can't wait to see pictures!

sweetbean gave me such a giggle at the idea of spacehopping to the shops. Nearest shop is 17 miles! hehe. Couldn't find the pump in the end so made flapjacks instead, mmmm

duchess my MIL's dog's puppies are due the same day as me! Not sure if that's a good thing but at least it'll keep MIL at the other end of the country!

snooks congratulations! hope you and Pearl are doing well

YCBS You're walking 6-7 MILES every day?! I am in awe.

I think my mum is 'nesting'! Keeps insisting we clean everything, as far as I'm concerned everything that needs majorly cleaned has been done already. I think it could just be the arrival of MIL with my DP tomorrow (thankfully just for the night) and she's getting house proud. Wish I could just leave her to it, not in the mood to scrub clean things!

Have a great day everyone

asicsgirl · 02/05/2008 11:47

Hiya everyone

Congrats to pina and snooks!!! Well done to both of you. Very impressed pina with your outside broadcasts keeping us up to date... hope you'll be back in the studio soon

YCBS can't believe you are walking 6-7 miles...

Baiyu you must be so excited - happy for you! ROFL at your MIL's dog keeping her away...

Sad to say I have no good reason for 'going quiet' other than MAJOR frustration with everything starting and stopping. Lots of walks yesterday which seemed to get things going - by end of day I was sitting on the ball watching the last episode of Green Wing and the second of Heroes, and having regular, well, I am going to call them contractions because that's what they feel like! Involve the whole of my lower back as well as my tummy, and really quite uncomfortable. Went to bed thinking 'Yay! Maybe it's FINALLY kicking off', and was woken up by more of the same at 2-ish, but went back to sleep and guess what, nothing more.

DP and my mum are being kind, bless them, but there's not much they can do with a tired, hormonal asicsgirl in floods of tears! I know it's silly - as my mum says, 'it's just happening really gently, but it is happening' but I am SO frustrated with it all.

Oh well. Off for another walk now Send me your bump-eviction vibes please!! x x x

baiyu · 02/05/2008 12:37

Attention asicsgirl's baby - this is your official eviction notice! We know it's lovely and cozy in there but get out, your mummy is ready to meet you!

mumblesmummy · 02/05/2008 13:07

Pina- Congrats, beautiful name. That was on our list and we would have shortened to Evie too. My cousin's just called her baby Evie.

GCG- Love your name too and hope my labour is as easy as that, it sounds so much better than what everyone keeps telling me. They must just be trying to scare me lol.

TMI ALERT:
I'm starting to wonder if I'm having some kind of show, but it seems a little different to what others have said. I keep getting shooting pains in my fanjo, and when I go to the loo there's like weird jelly snot stuff, but it seems to be coming bit at a time and no blood. I'm also feeling very hormonal and I've been sick today.. so wondering if maybe something's about to start. Also had quite a few BHs and I'm sooooooooooooooooooo tired all the time, I want to sleep sleep sleep, however, I've recently had my nesting burst- in the middle of the night.

Sister is coming home today!! Woohoo. Her girls are staying in hospital until their due date, so another 12 weeks.

otter- I think it sounds like you might be ready to roll soon!! Good luck, hope it goes well.

DP is sooooooooo mad at me because it's his cousin's birthday, she's 19, and because she's got friends round, I won't go. I feel about 35 stone. I made the stupid, stupid mistake of getting on the scales this morning and I reckon I've put on about 5 stone or something. Maybe more. I could so cry. So now I feel all mean and nasty for not going to see DPs cousin. But in the past her friends have fancied my DP, sold us a dodgy car, and are generally pretty and outgoing and I feel ridiculous, shy, awkward and FATTTTTTTTTTTTTT. D'ya reckon I'm out of order or what? She is like his sister

Consultant didn't go too well. he was busy so they gave me some registrar, who I couldn't understand as he had an accent. He said they'll do a sweep next week and then not look into induction until after that... isn't that what they would have done anyway?? So I'm not closer to getting this giant baby out. Let's hope he comes on his own today.

YCBS- good God, you're working until very close to your due date arn't you?? i gave up bloody ages ago

ooo and I've just looked back and seen Snooks has had baby too!!! Congratulations!! Sounds like you had a pretty good birth too!! V. pleased for you and hope mine's similar

BigBadMouse- I've been worrying about the cord all pregnancy too, but no signs of anything untoward. I'm sure it'll be fine if baby's still getting what he/she needs. Hope you manage to stop worrying and have baby soon to put your mind at rest.

xxx

otter1980 · 02/05/2008 16:38

hurrah baiyu!!!!

janemf - poor you - you have my sympathy for your pains...

asics - i was so sure... never mind - sending eviction vibes....

Mumblesmummy - i has no blood in my show - jelly/snot/frogspany looking stuff - thats what i had too (and is apparently a show...) great news about your sister! your not out of order you are pregnant and can therefore do what you like. He can go on his own, hes a grown man!! also dont worry about your weight, you have a baby in there, plus fluid, and placenta plus you are carrying a lot of extra fluid and blood - also brest feeding helps you lose some weight and you have been so stressed during this pregnancy I think that even if you doubled in weight you'd be doing well... its not fat is a baby (and this is the only time you can proudly wear tight tops over a belly that big!!!)

i has lunch with friend, didnt eat much, sick feeling returned. pain back. seriously hope this is baby and baby comes soon becuase this isnt very fun...

Youcannotbeserious · 02/05/2008 16:59

Mumblesmummy - so glad to hear your sister and her twins are doing well. I don't think you are being unreasonable - you've had SUCH a lot to deal with and your feeling tired and not particularily socialable...
Asicsgirl - I've also signed your 'get the baby out now' petition!!!

(though I'm not sure I want any more people to disappear over to 'the other side' - It's going to get awfully quiet around here!!)

Thanks to everyone who said I'm to be still working / still walking so much - It really did cheer me up to know that i'm not being totally unreasonable to feel a bit naffed off about it all. I am feeling insecure at the moment and also feeling pretty alone. Dh hasn't been to even one of my ante natal appointments, and I'm feeling a bit down. Most other pregnant women seem to expect (and get!) a bit more help.... I got up this morning at 6:30 (to walk the dog) and DH rolled over - I thought he was going to give me a cuddle, but he said 'close the blinds on the way out, I can't sleep with that light'

Anyway, had another appointment with my consultant today and all is well - only one more appt. before my due date , so atleast my little nugget is safe and sound

Youcannotbeserious · 02/05/2008 17:00

Oohh... Podglet - forgot to ask: Any news?

I don't think we've had a baby actually born on their 'due date' yet, have we?

Casserole · 02/05/2008 17:34

Thanks everyone for the congratulations and I'm glad you like the name It took us a couple of days to name him, as we'd had a sexing scan that said he was a girl!!! So that was a bit of a surprise, but a lovely one and we've promised him he won't have to have a pink nursery forever... There are pics on my profile if you fancy a quick "ahhh" now...

Congratulations to everyone else who has had their babies since I've been gone and take heart for those still waiting. You are all so close now, it really is a maximum of a few weeks away.

YCBS I'm thinking maybe the doggie will need to make his peace with shorter walks for a few weeks - seriously babe, you should take care of yourself - don't want you going into labour while dh is away and you're on your own. I'm sorry he isn't being the most supportive, do you think he's having a bit of a last minute freakout about the impending changes? I think that's quite common, even if he's been there before.... anyway, hugs to you.

pregnabrain just to say I didn't take offence at the pineapple joke - whilst I wasn't here I've pretty much worked out the gist and it made me laugh (or actually smile a lot whilst holding my belly which is as close as I get to laughing right now!)

Otter I laughed at the thought of your husband finding it mystifying that we just talked about pregnancy! It's a whole different world in men's heads, honestly...

I would second putting change for the car park in your hospital bag. I would also second the advice to TAKE THE PAINKILLERS YOU GET OFFERED AFTERWARDS, whether you deliver vaginally or by section - when the pain is under control you can be so much more resilient and able to focus more clearly on bonding with babe and getting yourself together. I kept skipping doses but honestly, there's no point and you get a more even effect if you take them - which leads to less middle of night weeping, believe me!

I hired a TENS from tens.co.uk and they were brilliant - even though I was a cheapskate and plumped for normal 1st class delivery it arrived the following day. It helped more than I thought it would too, got me nearly all the way to 9cm, so I'd recommend it.

Still doing ok here - sore, but ok. It's so much easier being home where you can sleep and shower without feeling like you're camping. My other advice: get home as soon as you can! You feel so much more human in your own surroundings. Leo was a little bit jaundiced but is pinking up well and feeding furiously. Seems he's been here forever.

Thinking of all of you who are big, uncomfortable and playing the waiting game.

KangaAndRoo · 02/05/2008 17:59

OMG casserole cant believe they said he was a she lol

I had my scan today 38+2 and we are definately head down and set to go (well anytime from monday and i'll be happy!!)

Congrats Pina, snooks and gcg (cant remember if i congratulated you lol

xx

baiyu · 02/05/2008 19:06

Aww, Casserole, he's beautiful. Can't believe they told you the wrong sex! They won't tell you up here even if you do want to know but OMG that must have been a surprise!

Mumblesmummy just to echo what everyone else has said, you are definitely not being unreasonable! It is totally up to you what you do and don't feel up to doing. Aah and YCBS, get that DH walking the dog and you stay in bed!

otter1980 · 02/05/2008 19:09

casserole - hes so cute... im so

i want my baby now!!!!!

YCBS - at your DH!!!! although DP wouldnt have been to any of mine is we didnt have scan before and then see consultant. TBH he wasnt even doing that till i insisted because the consultant is mean... well they'll get a shock when babies come along, they dont listen when told to shut curtains/ give then another half hour etc...

KangaandRoo - how exciting!! are we going to race you and asics?

so despite my pain and suffering DP had gone to play football. well i say pain, it was getting really strong again, I was not a happy otter, DP told bump to stay where she was till he got back from football and she seems to have listened. Daddys girl already!! although if I have to have another couple of days like this i will not be happy... I know I have ages till my official due date but can i have her now because consultant wants to induce me before?

pregnabrain · 02/05/2008 19:15

Wow Casserole, you must have been shocked to get one of the blue variety after your sexing scan! Glad to hear you're recovering well from the section and I'd definitely second the painkillers thing. It's worth taking them to get over the hump of the first few days...

Chin up to all the waiters...I get frustrated with being so heavy and uncomfortable all the time but I'm trying really hard not to wish this time away. Soon, we'll all be caught up in the whirlwind of newborn babies so it's lovely to have some chilled time before.

YCBS - not surprised you're feeling low - can't believe you're still at WORK!! Can't you stop a little bit sooner? I'm with you on the insensitive dh thing. I need to feel really loved at the moment by mine and I take it super personally whenever he's the tiniest bit insensitive. I was like this with dd too, am sure it's hormones...

Sweetbean - hang in there - I need the other late Mayers to stay here with me!

Asicsgirl - it's easy to say, but try not to focus too much on the contractions etc. Your body is doing loads of useful work, which will probably mean that your labour is much easier whenever it does kick off in earnest.

baiyu - so happy for you that you're about to see DP!!

Glad to see the pace of this thread shows no signs of slowing down.

podglet · 02/05/2008 19:50

YCBS - was teasing my lovely - I had mine 2 1/2 weeks ago! Just seems funny that today is my due date and it feels like she's always been here! I'll blame the walking / working for you...

Casserole - he's gorgeous! Must have been a shocker though, to find he was a blue one, not a pink one How long til you make your DP set to with a paintbrush in the nursery? Had you bought much in the way of girly stuff?

Mumblesmummy - how is your DP after his accident (obviously a lot better as he wants to go out ) I think you are dead right to refuse to go, you have been through so much recently, you can do what you jolly well like

Eviction petitions signed where required...

podglet · 02/05/2008 19:50

Sorry - Baiyu - hurray for DP being home tomorrow! Enjoy...

asicsgirl · 02/05/2008 19:54

Hey everyone

Casserole can't believe the sex was wrong! What a surprise. He is such a cutie, well done you. And you are so together - all that sane and sensible advice - can't believe it! I think I was on Planet Random for at least a year after DS was born Hope you feel less sore soon x

YCBS at your DH. As someone said, he'll get a shock when the baby arrives Agree with everyone who says at you still being at work. I planned to work up to 2 weeks before due date with DS but was so knackered I had to go off earlier. And was very glad I had! Have you got any holiday outstanding that you could take?

mumblesmummy ooh! Are we off? And I second everyone else in saying 'do what the hell you like' - you are pg and hormonal, this is the time when everyone has to do what you want for once!

otter sorry you're in pain. Hope it turns out to have a good cause! In the meantime - paracetamol...

thanks all for the 'out with you!' vibes and positive thoughts esp. pregnabrain, it really helps x x x

Have decided to revise my due date to 5th May as this was what I originally calculated it as Nothing like a bit of cheating hey! Positive psychology... Been for a couple of lovely walks today, and sat in the lovely sun this pm watching DS charging around pretending to be a tractor driver Reminded me there is more to life than timing contractions!

Have a good evening all, love a x x

Youcannotbeserious · 02/05/2008 20:35

Podglet Sorry! I should really try and engage what little of my brain is left before I speak / type!!!!!

Otter Hope you aren't feeling too uncomfortable!

Casserole What a shocker!!! But your DS is just GORGEOUS!!!!

I'm for a nice bath and an early night tonight - am totally DONE IN!!! I'm afraid DH isn't in for too much of a shock - he'll be back in Russia from Tuesday so I'll be on my own again... I think that's why I was expecting so much from this week just gone!

Still, sleep well!!!

YCBS x

KangaAndRoo · 02/05/2008 21:09

Noooooo Otter .... i'm quite happy not racing just yet LOL

bobsmum · 02/05/2008 21:46

Right - firstly - hello lovely ladies!!!!!

Have updated my profile with a photo of my fabulous, fat, Martha.

Expanded birth story is here

And now I'm going to see who and what I've missed since Martha popped, cos I can smell more yummy babies

Will be back once I've caught up with the thread

goodcatholicgirl · 02/05/2008 21:56

I'm still here!!!

Just been catching up with you all. It's funny to hear about you all feeling so fed up and just wanting babies out....remember girls, it could all happy AT ANY TIME!!!! It certainly sounds as though some of you have some very positive sounding symptoms, stringy snotty shows and sharp fanjo pains etc. When I started getting contractions I remember getting a 'knitting needle in fanjo' sensations and thinking 'ooooh, someone on MN described this, maybe it is labour!!!'.

azaduhi Glad to hear my long posts will be missed but a bit at being thought of as a moaner...was I really that bad??? . I thought I was quite positive until that last day before I had her!!!

casserole can't believe they got your sex wrong!!!

podglet Happy due date to us???!!! Isn't it nice to get to your due date but have had it!!! .

baiyu yay! for DP being back.....hope you are getting jiggy with it......

Things OK here. DD2 still being good. My milk came in today so I feel and look like Jordan!!! Also seem to have developed piles . How on earth did I manage not to get them in pregnancy but after DD2 born???

Will keep checking up on you all. I know it's hard waiting, but it really won't be long now....

OP posts:
BigBadMouse · 02/05/2008 22:14

bobsmum - she's lovely - soooo cuddly and hairy . Did your other two have lots of hair? Loved reading your birth story. My two DDs were delivered while I laid on my left (with DH holding leg in the air ) really worked well for me too. Glad you got to the hospital on time.

Casserole - You blue bundle is so sweet. Was he a big shock to you?

janemf - I'm the same as you - just had some very strange twinges and immediately thought 'no! not now, the girls are in bed and - far more importantly - I'm multitasking with MN and ebay' . He's now kicking my ribs like crazy - think it is his way of playing with me (he feels like a playful one to me ). The pain you describe sounds like nerve pain to me - I get it sometimes too.

otter - looks like everything with your bump is progressing well to me. No, I doubt it is possible for me to go three hours without thinking about an epidural .

Has to be said though, it's the Gas&Air I loved most. I was nervous about taking it at first as I heard it made you feel ill. It made me a bit light-headed the first time I took it but after than . I got through loads and believe I still hold the local record for the number of cannisters used at home - it was a long labour though . DH is RNLI paramedic trained so he is allowed to administer G&A - this time I will find a way of sneaking a cannister home with me for those afterpains . For anyone that hasn;t taken it before and might use it this time - you have to take it as soon as you feel a contraction coming on - not by the time it is there - for maximum effect. Not easy with double whammies like I have had in the past so I took it all the time (just in case). It makes you really thirsty btw as it dries your mouth out so make sure you get cold drinks provided for you by a helpful birth partner.

goodcatholicgirl · 02/05/2008 22:39

BBM excellent advice on the gas and air....I agree with all you said!

I've just put some pics of Cerys and her big sis on my profile page.

OP posts:
BigBadMouse · 02/05/2008 22:44

GCG thanks - I guess I had a fair bit of experience with it . Both your DDs are lovely - I love Cerys' big hat in the top photo. I'm really pleased to see you still get the time to come on here - thinking I'll just disappear for a year when nugget arrives

otter1980 · 03/05/2008 10:53

GCG - PMSL at jordan... you weren't a moaner!

thanks for the G&A tips...

Martha and Cerys - such cuties, especially loving Cerys hat...

oh and im still here - have decided to stop being excited and just wait - i'll probably be the last one on here... also DP seems to have given me his manflu (although its proper flu for me ) have that horrid exhausted sleep achy thing going on - ugh.

any more babies yet??

Fleurie76 · 03/05/2008 12:02

Wow - two more babies!
Congratulations Pina and Snooks it sounds like there are a few more to come very soon from some of the symptoms described, Otter and asicsgirl fingers crossed for you!

YCBS you deserve a medal girl. I cannot believe that you are doing 6-7 miles a day with the dog and still working! My dog gets a quick trot round the local park as that's all I can manage, but seriously I am trying to gently disrupt his routine as I know it will be the first to go once baby arrives so trying to get him prepared too! Try and take it a bit easier if you can (easier said than done I know)

Janemf I am with you on the staying put for a while! Still just happy washing tiny clothes and watching them on the clothes line..

Still nervous about ECV next week, not sure if it is the right thing to do, LO has been head up for weeks and seems quite happy there (woke me up at 4:30 this morning kicking the life out of me (but it was nice) . Also quite taken with the idea of getting booked in and having a date I know he/she will arrive (I know, not very earth mother of me!)
