Hi all,

Mumblesmummy pleased to here you are okay. I was worried as well. Congratulations on the birth of Kaeden (I am interested in the name and what it means).

Sweatbean Congratulations on the birth of Hannah Korenza. I knew we were due around the same time so I was looking out for your news.

Congratulations to anyone else who has popped. I have been out of touch with happenings because I became quite ill. I got an infection in the perinium which possibly travelled to the womb or the bladder. I had a high temperature and terrible pain and have been in a side room off the main ward for the last 3 days. I have just got home.

Lots of love

Mumblesmummy,

I have just read your story and I think it's horrific. I think you should consider making a complaint. It's a shame to have to think like that at a time like this when your happy with the new arrival but I really feel hospitals shouldn't be allowed to get away with this kind of thing.

I am going to be writing myself re my own experiences. After my epidural wore off I had terrible pain in the perinium and couldn't use the toilet normally. Everyone said "that's normal" and I was sent home without an examination. The community midwife also failed to examine me. Subsequently I got an infection in the perineum which they think spread to the woumb or the bladder. I had to be readmitted with a high fever and terrible pain and given intravenous antibiotics.

There were other problems on the ward. v. little support for sick mothers at night which I think is dangerous, no-one in severe pain should be lifting babies and the state of the rooms were deplorable. On one occasion I was left with soiled sheets / blood on the floor for several hours.

I hope you are feeling better now, Mumblesmummy and get time to chat inbetween the feeds.

Lots of love,

NS XXXX

more tumbleweed....................

Congrats to the new mums and those who have dodged induction.

Sweetbean - lovely name!

MM - just posted on the postnatal thread for you but I think you should complain too. You were treated awfully, no birth experience should be like that. You too newbishad, that's horrid about the sheets.

Birth Announcement

Just popping in to announce the arrival (at LAST) of our second wonderful daughter (name still a bit TBC!).

She arrived at 3.38pm on Wednesday 4th June (half an hour before my appointment with the consultant to discuss induction). She weighed in at 8lb 9oz and is the spitting image of her big sister.

Labour was AMAZING - such a different experience from last time. It certainly laid a lot of ghosts to rest for me. It didn't happen at home, but we were back home and in our comfy bed the same night, so that was the main thing!!

Will post proper birth announcement (for those who enjoy reading them) when i have the chance.

Looking forward to joining the post natal thread for chat about sore nips and sleepless nights.

Big hugs and best wishes for anyone who's still waiting (is there anyone left now?). Embrace your inner SHE-RA and go for it!!

Haven't had a chance to read through the thread so I'm sure some others need congratulating - will catch up when I can.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/06/2008 14:22

Good for you pregna! I'll look out for your birth announcement in due course, meanwhile enjoy your new girl.

I've only posted on the post-natal thread once, mostly I've been checking back here. I think I feel duty bound as a fellow late-May EDD to round up the whole flock before moving on!

gingerwench · 06/06/2008 15:57

I'm still here. Midwife tried and failed to do sweep on Thursday - apparently cervix too posterior for her to reach although she did touch the baby's head and it has engaged further than she thought by examining my abdomen. Bishops score less than 3. She will try to give a sweep on Monday and I'm provisionally booked in for prostaglandin gel Tuesday evening and then induction Wednesday although I'd rather see if I can avoid that. If I'm healthy and the baby is healthy then it would be better to have monitoring I think and let nature take its course. But I'll be 42 weeks next Thursday....

Fleurie76 · 06/06/2008 18:42

Birth Announcement

Holly Elizabeth was finally born on Monday 2nd of June after 12 hours of labour.

Thankfully I also managed to dodge the induction and Holly decided to arrive in fairly quick time (went from 3cms to over 9 in less than 2 hours - intense!).

She didn't want to wait much at the exit point either and practically had to be caught off the bed, resulting in a third degree tear and being stiched up in theatre

We're over the moon with her although as everyone is, we are exhausted!

Congrats to sweetbean and pregna for also beating induction.
Gingerwench the odds are good for you to do the same.

Now where is this post-natal thread.....?

newbishad · 06/06/2008 19:23

Congratulations Fleurie,

How heavy was Holly?

NS XXX

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/06/2008 20:53

Well done Fleurie! This thread has gone all spontaneous!

gingerwench if your midwife could just reach the head at yesterdays sweep then hopefully she may be able to really sweep the membranes on Monday. Hopefully the baby will drop that wee bit more over the weekend and the next sweep will do the job. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you. My midwife was prepared to let me go to 43 weeks with my DC2 but the decision was largely based on DC1s birth being straightforward etc.

sweetbean · 06/06/2008 20:56

Just popped in really quick to say congratulations pregnabrain and Fleurie76 i promise to update the births tomorrow and also to say a proper hello to everyone!!

Thanks so much for every ones warm welcome to Freya she is soooooooooo beautiful and im totally in love with her!!!

Duchess i will get around to writing my birth story soon and tell you all about my water birth !

Lots of love to everyone xxxxxx

ampster · 07/06/2008 01:58

still here. 10 days overdue as of tomororrow (but it's 3am so today i guess.) today i did spicy food, walking, raspberry leaf tea, sex and nipple stim. NOTHING. i wish they had never given me a due date so that i could just relax about it. still, it won't last forever - will it?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 07/06/2008 11:17

ampster - no it won't last forever! Are you booked for an induction or are you waiting another week to be spontaneous!! Good luck all the same, spend the weekend walking, crawling about and squatting. Making up flat-pack furniture seems to have spurred two of mine into action.

I've just been reading my birth notes (I photocopy them before the midwife takes them away). My 2nd stage lasted 4 minutes and my 3rd stage 5 minutes. Amazing!

First let me give massive hugs to thoughts still waiting Ampster Gingerwench I'm thinking of you and sending you lots of eviction vibes !!!! xxxx

OK so my birth story !!

Had a massive show and what i thought was my waters break at 7.30pm then by 7.45 was having strong contractions every 3 minutes and lasting 45-60 seconds.
I went to hospital at 8.30 and i was only 2cm ditaled so went for a long walk around the hospital came back and contractions where getting very painful.
Started on the Gas and air but to be honest im not sure that it made a lot of difference to the actual peak of contractions just made you a bit giddy on the come down.
Was examined at 10.30 and was 4 cm dilated i asked if the pool was free and MW said they where just having it cleaned and that she would fill it for me.
I got in the pool at about 11.30 and it was fantastic again im not sure it helped with the actual contractions but it made you feel so relaxed in between!! spent the rest of the time having contractions every 2 minutes which then turned in to every 1 minute my water broke and then i pushed her head out in about 4 pushed but for some reason i couldn't push her shoulders out i just completely lost the feeling to push so MW ended up pulling her out and DH was terrified that there was something wrong because she was all limp and blue but thankfully all was fine and she was a very healthy 9lb 1oz.
I had no tears or grazing at all and im sure it was the water that helped with it !!! In fact other than being a bit sore and feeling like ive done 100000000 sit ups i wouldn't even know ive given birth!!!
I do feel that the labour was much more painful but i think its because i didn't have any build up but i did manage on Gas and Air which was really important to me.

So im a very happy Mummy of two beautiful DD !!!!!

newbishad · 07/06/2008 14:17

Congratulations pregnabrain.

ampster · 07/06/2008 14:28

thanks duchessofnorksbride! crawling, squatting and flatpack furniture are induction suggestions i haven't had before (hurrah!) so i'll try them. maybe scrub kitchen floor on hands and knees? my boyfriend would love that, the perv.

not booked in for induction yet but we'll see what they say on monday when i have CTG and monitoring. am getting so bored i might just say yes. parents arriving on 13th june anyway and i STILL don't have a baby to show them they might flip out (they have to fly over from london so it's a bit of a trek!)

congrats again @[sweetbean], esp on no tears and only gas and air! proud of you. enjoy new baby!

ampster · 08/06/2008 09:19

I went to a party and took a flask of raspberry leaf tea (I know - I'm so rock'n'roll.) Drank it all and had a whole bunch of contractions and twinges in the night but then it subsided and today NOTHING - still no baby. Am so sick of people due after me having baby before. Is not fair!

gingerwench · 08/06/2008 15:19

Well I had a show yesterday afternoon and this afternoon I have lower back pain and period type cramps in waves, nothing v painful so I assume just strong braxton hicks. But at least I feel things are progressing.

Ampster - my parents were due to visit next weekend but we've put them off a week so ensure they have a baby to see! I bet you are as fed up with the "any news?" texts etc as me!

Fleurie76 · 08/06/2008 15:21

Aw, ampster you poor thing, it is hell waiting especially when other people start to get a bit fed up waiting as well and you just want to scream 'Imagine how I feel!!'
It's a good sign that you've been having some twinges - it won't be long now!

Gingerwench eviction thoughts going out to you as well

Newbishad Holly weighed in at 7lb 13oz - thanks for reminding me, I had forgotten to add that vital detail!

ampster · 08/06/2008 16:21

gingerwench, i am getting sick of the texts and emails asking for news - but it's understandable in my folks' case, as my grandma just died, and i think the thought of this baby (her first grandchild) is the only thing keeping my mum happy...

fleurie thanks, yeah, it's horrible when it seems like you're just some kind of delivery device for the baby and you're doing something wrong to stop them meeting the baby on purpose!

on the upside, i think i had a bit of a show this afternoon. and more little twinges in my tummy today, though no more contractions. hurrah, stuff is happening!

babylove21 · 08/06/2008 21:14

Well congrats to all the new babies and mums!
no time todetail so dont take offense.
Fleurie, sounds liek you had a very similar experience to me.

Except i was induced. Drip in at 8.50pm. Contractions with pain by 10pm. 1am only 1cm dialated but in complete agony. could not bear another 4 hours of the same so had pethedine.
Then at something past 2am i needed to push. I was sure something was so wrong because it had only been a little over an hour since i was 1cm I resisted for about 4 contractions while midwife sat smiling lol, i was so upset she would ' look' i asked my partner to! I dont think he did either.
She came out with 3 pushes,i was asked tp pant ??? As if lol.
I did tear but didnt need a stitch.

My friend commented on how rosy my cheeks were for just giving birth ( on a photo), i said you would have been a little flushed if that had happened to you.

Because 2 days of gel had done nothing and breaking my waters achieved nothing, when after 4 hours of the drip i was only 1cm i was not prepared for the sudden rush of everything. Still im not complaining. Very different from my previous 2 deliverys.

But i have survived being induced, and really it wasnt that bad. I think its just the thought of its so un natural that gets to you, But once the pain comes you soon stop worrying about how you got there.

Will keep checking back to see how the rest of you get along.

Congrats again everyone!

gingerwench · 09/06/2008 15:13

MIdwife was able to do a sweep this morning and she reckons it might be enough, or if not, a single dose of gel (planned tomorrow night) will do the trick. 1cm dilated now.

Fingers crossed!

ZamMummy · 09/06/2008 19:10

BELATED BIRTH ANNOUNCEMENT
Firstly my apologies for being so crap that I have only got round to posting now that DS2 is one month old!
Born by planned CS on May 8th at 10.30am. The whole experience was VERY civilized though more than a little surreal - waking up in the morning knowing that I was going to have my baby that day was weird, thank God the element of surprise was still there with the sex (well sort of, by the last week I was convinced he was a boy anyway after being "so sure" that he was a girl for the previous 30+ weeks....)
All went very well, we stayed in hospital for 4 restful nights then back to my parents where life was BUSY with DH's whole family visiting for a week, plus having to get his passport and a flight booked.
We came back to Zambia on May 24th, when he was 2 weeks old, it now seems as though we've been back forever and he has always been with us. So far he is a dream baby, eats like a champion and sleeps well - here's hoping it stays that way....
DS1 has taken to it all remarkably well, he is SO sweet with his little brother, stroking him and even shares his toys with him (by putting them on his head ).
I'm so happy to be mama to 2 beautiful sons xx

ps see you all on the postnatal thread!
