DUE AUGUST 2008 NEW THREAD!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
VintageGardenia · 15/04/2008 11:54

I was thinking this morning, oh my good Lord a baby! This time in three or four months there will be an actual baby here. A baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yikes.

Oh yikes.

Oh yikes.

Oh yikes.

libbyssister · 15/04/2008 11:55

Ooh I'd forgotten about the Lactulose stuff. It works, but my god it makes you do very smelly farts

PetitF, shame you couldn't come away completely breezy from you scan but it sounds like everything's normal, even if it's the 'upper end of' it! At least you get to spy on your LO in another couple of weeks again

My piss taking friend has just gone and bought me some paracetamol, what a sweetie he is. So hopefully that will take the edge off the butt pain. And with TS's choc, I should be fine. You're up early TS!

CC - ouch! What the hell are you doing ironing anyway

PetitFilou1 · 15/04/2008 13:49

VG and Libby Thanks, I know I'm just a worrier. And yes it will be nice to have another look in a few weeks (that is the plus side)

Re the prunes, just eat a bowl of them with some bio yoghurt and maybe a bit of brown sugar (breakfast?). Yum, they are like sweets! (Thought bananas had the opposite effect though so I wouldn't mix them up - but might be making that up)

And VG, I never worried about actually looking after an actual baby - I think that is partly why I got PND first time around. If you are thinking that now then you will be considerably more prepared than I was!

longwayfromhome · 15/04/2008 15:24

Good morning all. My advice would be lots of lentils and sweetcorn. You can buy both in tins and mix them in to pasta sauces so very easy. I agree that bananas are on the bung you up end of the scale.

Just weighed myself. Looks like I have put on at least a stone and a quarter so far (22 and a bit weeks). And I don't even look very pregnant yet. Humph. I think that I preferred not knowing.

petitfilou, good news about your boy, and I hope that everything goes well in the next few weeks as you wait for the next scan.

Oh yes, and I completely agree with both the emotional and the "oh my goodness a baby" feelings.

Buckets · 15/04/2008 15:33

VG Buy decent prunes in a foil pouch and a bar of good dark chocolate (eg G&B Maya Gold). Melt the choc and coat the prunes, leave to set in the fridge on a baking tray (and greaseproof paper if yours are anything like mine LOL) while you scrape out the rest of the chocolate. Pop the chocs throughout the day. Prune juice is quite nice too in small doses, take it on a spoon like medicine. Invest in some probiotic yoghurt drinks too.

Been for rather pointless appt with conslt paediatrician re DS this morning, he went nuts and refused to be measured or do any games with her. Don't know what she expected in a boring consulting room full of equipment he's not allowed to touch , she didn't even get out any of the puzzles/bricks they played with last time. Would have been better off meeting in the waiting room where he'd been very happy playing. Walked 40mins each way so we are just up from a good long nap.

miamla · 15/04/2008 15:34

i've been banned from the scales by my DP because i was stressing about losing weight!

as for your cough little problem VG, i had a similar one last week and drank a glass of senokot (orange flavoured fibre drink bought as sachets from chemist)
I did do some research before i drank it but had them at home already and obviously could only find a sachet and not the accompanying leaflet sooo.... check with pharmacist/doctore before you take it. They are good though, a really natural, gradual remedy for cough blockages!

petitfilou, well done on bringing the tally of the boys up! i agree with the others, if it was something serious to worry about they would have you back in sooner. And upper end of normal is still normal in my book! I found that my GP was brilliant in answering any questions that i forgot to ask during my hospital appt. He didn't know the answers himself but he sure knew who to phone and find out!

i feel really rather pregnant today..very heavy on the front and Pip is reminding me he's there by kicking and causing earthquakes every now and again!

right, off to get some air and enjoy the wonderful sunshine if only for a few minutes (my own fault, i've spent most of my lunchbreak randomly surfing!)

Buckets · 15/04/2008 15:34

Oh and I've put on a stone in 6wks! Was just over 11 at 16wks and just over 12 at 22w!

CaptainCaveman · 15/04/2008 15:49

Sorry to hear about plumbing works - now, as a continence trained nurse may I recommend...

  1. Drink at least 2 litres of water daily
  2. Eat lots of fibre
  3. Try things like dried prunes - actually very tasty.
  4. Use laxatives IF the other things fail but don't rely on these as they interfere with the normal motility of the gut (eg. they can make the bowel lazy). WARNING - lactulose gives you bad wind pain and senna gives you gripey pains!
  5. Don't strain to go - if you sit for more than 10 mins with no action, get off the loo and go eat more prunes!!
  6. Follow my link to poo!
PetitFilou1 · 15/04/2008 15:50

Buckets Prune idea sounds lovely but I'd just eat the chocolate with the prunes without the setting/melting business!

On the weight front was about 65kg and am now 69.5kg so that's not too bad I don't think (10 stone 2 to 10 stone 9)
I think I put on about 2 stone/ 2 1/2 stone the last two times. But I don't stress too much about it as it always comes off in the end - took me a year or so both times. I didn't diet and never have. Looking at the differences between people on here I don't think it is worth making comparisons - we're all different and have different body shapes/genetics/weight to start with etc etc.

VintageGardenia · 15/04/2008 16:38

Ooooer thanks guys. Popped to supermarket after lunch & could not find one single prune in the place! Except for tinned ones which looked orrible slimy sluggy things. I bought dates and apricots instead, both bags said High In Fibre, and have texted dp to bring prunes home from work (because naturally he will be able to get them by stopping off at one of the two garage shops he passes on the way home, when I was unable to get them in a ginormous supermarket )

I love your recipe Buckets! Sounds pure yum. And CC if I'd known this was your speciality I'd have gone straight to you. I do drink a lot of water for general health anyway, something has to shift here...

In supermarket, had first offer of help because of pregnancy! Person ahead in queue offered to help lift my basket up onto the conveyor belt thing and said I didn't want to be lifting things of that weight.

Any guesses - do you think this helpful soul was a man or a woman ?

Yes Libby I was up a bit early this morning. DD had her Pediatric GI appointment at 9...9:30....10 (that's the "times" the appointment setter gave me.) GI doc gave her the all clear but explained she will probably remain sensitive to antibiotics for life. GREAT I'll probably allow her to return to preschool tomorrow.

That prune/choc recipe did sound good....I just don't like prunes. I like raisins so I typically eat them instead. Oatmeal at bedtime then a tall glass of OJ upon waking usually gets the plumbing going, if it's stalled.

As for our list, I've copied it off-line and will edit as I read to help keep things straight. I think it's the updating appointments bit that gets it all jumbled. Anybody for dropping appointments on the main list and just updating genders as we find out??

Time for lunch. The baby's hungry!!

OP posts:
CaptainCaveman · 15/04/2008 18:00

Sounds fine to me TS - we will always keep each other informed of next appt dates as they come up anyway, so why not drop it?

Another work day over - it's already 6pm!! I swear I'll wake up tomorrow and find out I'm 30 weeks pg already!

CaptainCaveman · 15/04/2008 18:04

for your viewing pleasure - I have added a piccie of my burnt belly on to my profile

TwilightSurfer · 15/04/2008 18:07

That's one BIG iron burn. Should make for an interesting story when little Cavey is a teenager.

OP posts:
miamla · 15/04/2008 18:20

blimey CC...that burn is impressive! i'll bet it hurt but yeah, it'll certainly make a good story!
haven't looked at your photos before..your DS is so sweet!

dizzydixies · 15/04/2008 18:21

YOU SEEEEEE, do you ALL SEE NOW?!?!?!?!?!?!??

ffs, this is why I don't/shouldn't go to farking work

am only there 2 days and look what CC does to herself - good grief. what am I going to do with you?!?!?!? now is it arnica that you should be using on burns - will get back to you on that - silly mare am just glad it wasn't worse

petit lovely news on your boy - names?!?!?!

VG step away from the lactalose - its my understandind its nothing but a softener and won't move things on, just makes it easier to pass. get your weetabix and orange juice and if its becoming a regular problem let me know and I'll email you the homemade soup receipe that works for me - rocket fuel for the bot!

am not allowed to weigh myself! GP wouldn't let me, says I have enough to worry about!!! I had put on 4.5 stone with dd1 and only 19lbs for dd2 - was hoping for same this time but will all the lardy bottomness and KKs I doubt it

work was shite today but not awful. I have sorted out my A/L and will be having my last day on 10th june and matty leave starting on 7th July - YIPEE!!!!! I have some time off inbetween too so am only in work another 22 times

am shattered today though, have had tea and watching a bit of tv before battle of bath and bed, and thats just dh lol

we never asked at 20wk because they were making so many noises at me not being out of the woods till after 24wks

am now 25wks and have another 2 scans at least so we'll no doubt discuss whether or not to ask then

having a girl was a guess. remember we all guessed at the beginning lol

you've done us proud on the list again TS
