Good morning all you creme egg lovers ( and those weird ones amongst us who don't appreciate them)

Good luck for all the scans coming up this week, and next.

Hello all. NH - your bump is FAB and thanks for the BF advice (am not too worried actually but musn't speak to soon). I have to take a bump pic soon for the Organix blog but I'll give you guys a sneak preview first.

Yes G43, I do get some food samples in return for doing the blog. It's a nice way to write down my thoughts somewhere permanent while I'm pregnant and the mum's bars and carrot sticks are a good incentive! I esp like the ginger mum's bars if you haven't tried those ones yet. Like the sound of the korma (although I could just end up eating it myself!). I should get some baby food samples after bubs is born so will feed back on those if we're still chatting somewhere at Christmas when we're all weaning.

Wigeon - welcome! All the preggy books advise stopping work for the last eight weeks - but I don't think these authors live in the real world. It strikes me that most people couldn't afford to stop work so soon. I'd LOVE to have two months off before, but as it is, even the three and a half weeks I'm planning to take has only been possible because I have to use all my hols for the year before my due date.
My own view is take as much as you can beforehand and after, but don't feel guilty if you can't take the 'ideal' amount. One alternative is to go down to part time for the last while, which may be a better compromise if money is tight. And of course, some of us (debs, sophie) get almost nothing either side...

Poppy - I didn't get too many funny looks before I "announced" but I think that's cos I moved departments when I was 13 weeks, so I suspect they thought I was just chubby! A couple of people had worked it out tho and told me after. (Not my boss, who was ). Managed to find a knitting book the other day and am now well away. Is nice knitting, although dull too - not surprised you stalled!

Sorry - have written a novel as usual. Bfn!

Dramaqueen yes it sounds like heartburn, I suffered with both boys and can feel that it will hit me soon too. Milk seems to ease mine at the moment but I had gaviscon before, I've also heard that celery can help(but in moderation)

BB - Not like creme eggs - are you mad?

Welcome Wigeon, I stopped work before at 36 weeks and was very ready!!

Am coming to terms with the fact that it is in fact heartburn . Happy to take drugs so will pick up some gaviscon this week.

Work wise I'm planning to finish one month before due date but before that I'm just going to work 4 days a week. Cant wait!!

Whilst mooching around feeling tired and rubbish today have spent lots of time on the internet window-shopping for baby stuff. Had a few offers of helping out with some of the medium sized items we'll need so been doing some research on what we need/want. Anyone bought baby carriers yet? Any recommendations for good baby swings? DH (who's a bit of a foodie) bought Annabel Karmel's new baby food book today! Bless. It was on special offer though.

Thank you for the mat pay advice ChinaSurprise and bitofadramaqueen. As soon as I get my MATB1 I'll approach our payroll and find out for certain...do you get your MATB1 after your 20 week scan? There is a v small chance I could get a bonus in Feb, so it could bump up my mat leave pay nicely. Fingers crossed.

NH - Your bump looks great. I look lumpy rather than so neat so am envious of you.

I would love to take 8 weeks off before the birth - but think I'm very lucky that I can take nearly 4 weeks (2 1 day weeks and then 2 full weeks). Feel for the self employed Mum's to be - think you deserve extra helpings of creme eggs!

I clearly haven't read up on BF enough - the posting referring to blood on the chin freaked me out a bit! Better I find out now rather than the first time I try tho...

Hi penguin. I think you need to ask for your matb1. You can get it from GP or midwife but I think you do have to request it. Hope that helps!

I've only had heartburn once so far - last week when I had a big lunch. Was effing awful frankly so I do hope those suffering are finding solutions.

However... I have had rotten tummy pains the last couple of days. I think it's just bump growing and pulling ligaments as Miss Bean is still wriggling away, but it bloody hurts!

Finally, sorry if tmi, but is anyone, err, leaking yet? My nipples seem a bit sticky today - not wet, and I'm wondering if this is the start of it. They do seem to have had another growth spurt in the last week as well. Any of you vets able to help? Am 22 weeks, so the timing is about right I think?

heartburn ugg, I get it from sooo early on and end up sleeping lying up with a bucket load of gaviscon at my bedside. Check with your midwife but some of them give it to you on prescription which saves £9 a bottle.

Sorry for freaking you out PP with the blood on the chin, I was a pretty ott case of hacked nipple it was so deep I could fold the end back, really horrible and I was advised to carry on feeding through it hense the blood.

I had a creme egg earlier and I was just thinking how much I would love them to make the big ones filled with fondant so I could digg aay at it with a spoon. I also know we arent meant to have them but Im really looking forward to Macdonalds starting the creme egg macflurry again

China Im having major ligament issues in the tummy department if I can get to see my midwife this week im going to ask her for a tubey grip so I can walk my dog.

Baby has been bounding about in my tummy tonight kicks have been well about my belly button and belly is just jumping all over the place, its nice to see and know baby is growing and getting stronger.

Im desprate for my 3d scan so I can order all the stuff I want paint the nursary etc 4 weeks yesterday though tick tock tick tock.

Oh well away to bed, reading shopaholic and baby its very funny

Good morning everyone

Hope you're all feeling well today - no more growing pains or heartburn.

Haven't had the leaking boobs yet China but it did happen to me with the boys, just can't remember when . My MW told me at the time to rub in the leaking milk to help toughen up the nipples but I don't think it made that much difference!

Josey - baby moves around a lot in the evening here too, it waits until the boys are in bed I think, knows it will be nice and quiet and I can give it some attention.

Ernest where are you? Surely Kinderhotels have the internet?

Ah, found you all!

My scan was all okay. So huge relief. We got a really good look at the face. We weren't told but I think it's a boy. needahand how was yours?
Is anyone on here still in normal clothes?? I am not big enough for maternity but starting to get too big for normal.

Re Breastfeeding - I am dreading it too as really struggled last time, but am going to give it a go. Kamillosan is brilliant for cracked nipples and a fraction of the cost of Lansinoh.

Also I highly recommend Clare Byam-Cook's "What to expect when you're breastfeeding and what if you can't?" It's a no nonsense life saver!

Hope everyone feels better today. Gorgeous morning here.

PS GO Ireland in the rugby! (Am second generation but grew up supporting them because of my dad)

It's taken me ages to catch up with this weekends messages.

China- did you mean the debbie bliss book I posted? You inspired me to dig it out this weekend and I have made a start on the cable blanket but in pale yellow (don't know what sex it will be so didn't want blue!). I'm not a very quick knitter so it will probably take me until June to make it but it keeps me busy in the evenings while watching TV!

GA4 - I got that breastfeeding book recently and have found it really good so far.

I tried a dairy milk with cream egg filling bar yesterday as they didn't have any cream eggs in the shop, it was very disappointing!

Morning all, Blimey you've all been busy over the weekend! We spent Saturday putting up flat pack furniture (weel DP did, I handed him the screws and made cups of tea! Then he went to Twickenham and came home thoroughly demoralised! Oh well - at least is wasn't the Australians this time, so I don't get the brunt of his disappointment.
Thanks for the tips of bf - obviously I hope to be able to do this, but as I've never done it before, it is quite daunting. I've got DM and MIL on the end of the phone if I have questions, but tbh I think it will be a bit weird discussing my nipples with MIL!
I am hoping to leave work 2 weeks before EDD, however, this is a tentative arrangement as I don't know if I will have a job. I am currently covering a woman on maternity leave (the irony is not lost on my boss!) and we don't know yet if she is going to come back. I don't think she will, but the company is under no obligation to offer me permanent position if she doesn't so I am a bit up in the air. If she does come back, she'll be back in April, so I may have to temp for a month or so before Bug is born (needs must unfortuantely - we can't afford for me not to work).

Hello all,

Gosh what a lot of messages have been posted in the last few days. I haven't been on for 5 days and I couldn't believe the pages of chat. Nice to catch up with everyone though.

The good news is that we had our scan last wednesday and our little one is doing just fine, the amniotic bands are still present but they have done a good check of the all the limbs, hands and feet and it doesn't look like it has caused any damage which is a great relief. We had some great shots of the baby chewing my poor breasts!!!! We decided not to find out the flavour, although I have been so tempted this time. However, it looked like the baby had really big feet so maybe my 'feeling' of having a girl was wrong. Oh well only another 19 weeks to wait! We've got another scan at 28 weeks just to check on the banding which is a good thing really as we had to wait at the hospital for over an hour for our scan and poor ds whilst being very good wanted to explore the scan room so my dh hardly got to see anything on the scan .

I can't believe all the talk of creme eggs - I used to be a big fan but haven't been craving them lately. However, I did make a carrot cake at the weekend and boy is that going down well! Is anyone else suffering from insomnia? I keep waking up for no apparent reason and I can never decide whether to get up or wait and try and go back to sleep. Both days at the weekend I ended up falling back asleep at about 6am but then woke up feeling lousy later on. Perhaps I should have got up and done the ironing that I was lying there thinking about! Maybe not!!!

Morning everyone.

Spent most of Sunday lying around after my fall downstairs, and sleeping. I went to the doctor today and the baby is fine. Phew.

Just started a new thread about DS as he has taken to removing his nappies at nighttime.

Sorry about the heartburn and the rugby heartache. DH is from the USA so I escaped the rugby though he did stay up half the night to watch the superbowl.

Thank you China S.

Woke up repeatedly last night with excruciating tooth/gum pain thanks to wisdom teeth coupled with normal pregnancy swelling gums. Been to dentist who prescribed anti biotics which was a suprise, but dentist, chemist and MW all said they are fine to take. It does mean no creme eggs for a few days though. Soup and yoghurt only.... It means I'm working from which is nice though.

I wouldn't say I actually have boob leakage, more of a very slight goo - and you thought you gave away TMI ChinaS! It's sticky, but not actually fluid...

Hope everyone's week got off to a good start....PP x

hi everyone - busy morning on here!

Josie - glad your scan went ok and really glad to hear the baby ok after your fall upsidedownegg! ARe you ok though?

Penguin - I feel your pain re teeth traumas - I had loads of work done last year and was in constant agony. At least I could dope up on painkillers though. Ask your mw when you get your matb1 - you can only get it after a certain point (my pg brain not working so cant remember what that point is!). That's great if you due a bonus when they calcute your average earnings.

No leakage from me so far (hoping it stays that way!!).

I have my 20 week scan this afternoon, bloody private scan, not available on nhs so will let you all know how I get on. Wish me luck!

Morning all.

Had a creme egg for the first time on Friday - obviously in honour of the new thread's name - and have to concur with Basil Brush on the fact that I just don't like them (please don't beat me) . Give me a packet of salt and vinegar crisps anytime.

...just going off to join BB in the corner.

Thanks Dramaqueen. I'm all right, though very sore and still quite shaken. Apparently very common to lose your balance in pregnancy.

Anyway, didn't feel up to walking a couple of miles with pram this morning, so I'm working at home. (Along with you, Penguin, but at least you can't be tempted by creme eggs in the cupboard )

Josie. very glad that scan went well and that are scanning you again in a few weeks so that you know what's going on.

Glad the scans are going well - good news with the banding Josie, good luck for the afternoon Dramaqueen.

Been trying out prams this morning and I think I've narrowed it down to 2, this one and this I'm so pleased Mum is paying this time!! They both have all the feature I want, 3 wheels, front wheel fixed and swivel, carry cot available, various seat position, baby can face me or the front etc etc..

Thats good upsidedownegg - its because your centre of gravity shifts I think. Hence why we shouldn't go up ladders etc.

mellymell - I do like salt and vinegar crips too, but oh, cheese and onion. Mmmmmmmmmm. Always have to make sure I have some gum on me when I have those though!

Right, scan in 40 minutes, so I'd better go!
