Good morning all you creme egg lovers ( and those weird ones amongst us who don't appreciate them)

Good luck for all the scans coming up this week, and next.

HI Sophie

Yesterday was OK as only 1 apartment to do -(4beds, 4baths) 9 out and 9 in. But the next 2 Saturdays we have everything to do and we've got 13 going and 19 coming in. In fact I won't have enough towels so during changeover time I'll have to also get towels washed and dried!! DH does the beds then I tidy them up, but here they have single quilts so it's easier. Even married couples in their own houses have single quilts - you can't buy doubles or King size. How do you get on with changeovers with your dd? Mine are big enough now to sort themselves out, get a snack, watch a dvd etc... next week I've said they can watch one of the Star wars films as they are quite long. This week they also did snow clearing whilst we cleaned. But cleaning is getting me down I have to admit, what did you do before your b+b? I was a teacher.

Nice and quiet here now, dh has taken the boys skiing, then this afternoon I'm taking them to a party. Off to prepare a cottage pie for tea and find some chocolate!!

Also Sophie - breastfeeding isn't for everyone - don't apologise that you didn't like the thought of it - it's your choice after all.

During week its OK as she is in nuresery 3 mornings and will be going 5 mornings after May bank holiday. Other than that, Sundays DH looks after her, takes her for a walk while I do rooms or she comes and 'helps' like s having her own cloth to scrub the shower with, but trying to get her to stop bouncing on the beds is difficult She is also good at entertaining erself so will play while we do DVD's help and my mother sometimes had her on Saturday mornings when DH was out shooting. Good luck with the towels.

pregnant penguin - i am due the day before you and my january 28 and feb 28 paychecks were used to calculate so suspect you will be the same - this has also meant a bit more money for me than i expected thanks to overdue freelance payments being made at the right time.
Even if the one day difference bumps you into the next set of months you should still be feb/ march so you should be fine. Work should be able to confirm this for you - have a chat with them.

ps. thanks for all the bf advice. i am determined to but I also had a friend who found it impossible (not sure why) and she was very upset by it, feeling like she'd failed, which of course is not the case - she's one of the most mumsy people i know! even before kids.

whoever posted the knitting pattern book, that is the one i have actually - which blanket are you making? am curious.

right, off to pick up more baby clothes from a freecycler - can't believe how much money i've save this way already - anyone in the uk who doesn't know about freecycle, drop me a line and will explain.

josey - is all ok now?

Hi there! I just posted a pic of me and my bump on my profile. It was taken a couple of weeks ago when I was 22 weeks PG. Obviously I am having twins so I know I am quite big but wondered how I compared to the rest of you ladies.

I have put on 1st 12lbs so far which I think is OK. They say 24-28 pounds in the first 24 weeks for twins and I have put on 26lb in 23 weeks so pretty much bang on.

went to be measured for a new bra on Friday and when the woman saw me with no top on she said 'how long have you got left with the pregnancy?' I said four months. She went 'Ohhh! so guessed I must look pretty big for 5mths pg.

I was bursting out of my bras (that reeally crept up on me in last few days) and measured myself and was 37/38in around the bust, when I was 34in before I got pregnant. So I was thinking 'yey, I must be a C or even a D cup now!!' but when she measured me she said I should go up a back size not a cup size. I had been wearing 36B which I had been measured for at start (used to wear 34A before PG) so she put me in a 38B, which I have to say is a perfect fit. So much better. I am having to wear it on the smallest of the fixings around the back but it wil give me space to grow.

It seems it is my ribcage expanding not my boobs!!!

As you know im quite well endowned in that area But at moment every so often my left hand boob gets really sore like a burning sensation and can be really painful if im at home i strip off!! and sit with boobs out til it calms down. Maybe you could tell me if this is normal ? Also nipples covered with white stuff when it happens is this milk? Chinasurprise, my advice on BF is to read as much about it as possible before the birth. I have three sisters who BF'd and my mum did too so feel very lucky (and have people on call 24 hrs a day to ask!!) but I know people who were determined to BF but couldn't cos they weren't prepared. They thought it would just come naturally. Well it does for some people but not for everyone. So read up on it and find someone who did it successfully who you can ask about it after the birth.

After the baby is born you need to rest rest rest, eat eat eat and drink drink drink (water!) and your milk will be just fine. No cleaning up or doing the washing for the first two weeks at least! Your baby needs you in tip-top condition. x

Welcome Wigeon! You're due the day before me.

pregnant penguin - I think it probably will be Jan/Feb but I would speak to your payroll department just to make sure. There are various factors which can affect what period is used (I wont bore you with all the Inland Revenue rules). Howver, if Chinasurprise gets paid monthly and on the same date there you probably will be the same. I'm not due till later than you and I'm still Jan/Feb. Interestly, watch out that your due date doesn't suddenly change when you get your matb1 - your payroll department will use that date.

Can't believe how many posts I've missed in one day! Been away at a family christening.

Josey - you ok?

Calebsmum - thanks for all the links on bf - nice to see some advice and non-judgemental chat about bf on this thread; some of the feeding threads are downright scary!!

Wow! Its been busy on here!

Calebsmum - so nice to know your here, if we need you. I bf ds and I would definately recommend lasinoh and a bf chair (expensive - my mum bought mine) and midwife gave me jelonet dressing when I had a cracked nipple and it cleared it in about a day. The only breastpads that stay put are the Johnson and Johnsons ones!

Wigeon - Congratulations! and welcome to the June thread. I am planning to start my mat leave about 2 weeks before my due date, I really want as much time as possible with the baby, it is so difficult leaving them to go back to work, although we are so lucky to get 9 months mat pay, I am hoping with holidays etc I can take about 11 months off, I know mat pays not much but it should keep us afloat!

nhs, you look fab! I can still remember my Mum when she was pregnant with twins, when she was 9 months her tummy came out to the end of her knees when she was sitting down! You look fab, and it seems a really healthy weight gain for twins.

Josey, hope everything is ok with you and your dh now. I really think he sounds like my dh, he can be so lovely and caring but when we have an arguement he says some really hurtful things. He also has a mother who is a PINA!

Welcome Widgeon!

NH- love the bump- you actually make me look small, which is nice, I just have to forget that I have one to your two! And I love your new mother-of-twins hair!

Great advice re: breastfeeding...calebsmum now won't have any time to enjoy her new baby because we'll all be pestering her for advice! For my two pence worth, make sure you have a Savoy cabbage (only savoy!) in the fridge. The leaves slip inside your bra and ease the pain, and they're cool from the fridge which also helps. Can't remember why- there is some science. It's not an old wives tale, and was very effective for several of the women I worked for....to be filed under strange but true. I have also read that shredded carrot can help with mastitis, but with that and the cabbage in your bra you might as well smear yourself with coleslaw and be done with it!

NHS101 OMG!!!! you are soo neat for twins, Im at least that size and I have just the one and a few weeks behind you ok im cutting down on the pies (ps we have the same kitchen tiles )

Im doing ok thats China and Drama DH is slowly coming out of his sulk but I dont care as we woke to at good snowfall, so sticking out tounge and pulling a childish face behind his back helped

I have to say I really need to go and see my midwife as not been feeling too hot the past few days, think its a mixure of blood pressure and Iron levels being low.

I also suffer from massive ribcage spread during pregnancy and bras never feel comfy, if you see any bra extenders buy them they are so handy for the last couple of weeks.

breastfeeding is the hardest and most frustrating thing when it doesnt work, I read up on everything before with both of mine and didnt succeed though DD was going alot better but the blood dripping down her chin was a right put off even when I expressed out of that side the milk was a red colour, I know they say it doesnt hurt they baby but I wouldnt thank you for it

NH your bump looks fab! Mine is also massive but I think my baby is really big as when I measured my fundal height today it was 25 and should be around 23. The girls were always spot on and nither of them were tiddlers so I really thing this one will be massive. Though I look really big I don't have that heavy feeling but am sure it will come soon.

Calebsmum, thanks for the advice. I think I just have very sensitive nipples and just have to prepare myself for the fact they will crack again, aslong as it doesn't happen as badly as it did with dd1 I can cope!

Josey - hope you feel better soon

China - I've read your blog - I like to put a face to a name, and it's interesting to hear a bit more about you.

Sophie - The advantage we have with apartments is that once the guests are in , then it's only washing and ironing the stuff for the next weekend, keeping communal areas clean and tidy and helping out guests with places to eat, slopes to ski - dh also goes skiing with some guests who are 1st timers to the area - it's a hard job !!Then there's the behind the scenes things like advertising, web site maintenance, etc etc..

But with maternity leave I'm the same as you - Just taken a booking for 8 people from 12th June-19th and one for 2 from 14th-21st June, so I won't get much time after baby is born but it will probably be quiet beforehand, so I'll rest then!!

Just back from village children's party and it was one of those days where I didn't feel up to circulating and making conversation in stilted German, people waved and said hello but that was it, so I sat on my own for as long as I could then came home and cried!! Blame it on the hormones , dh prescribed a creme egg and that helped!!

china -checked out your blog (were you getting lots of funny looks too about putting on weight til you came clean?) - site is really nice actually and quite useful.

Did you have any success digging out the knittig patterns? I've got something half finished that I started making and never finished for a friend's baby....maybe there is a slim chance that I may actually finish it for this baby (I am the worst ever knitting finisher in the world).

Or maybe I'll just give in and get my mum to do it ... if anyone does have any nice knitting patterns/suggestions to inspire would be good to see them.

Great pic NH - nice and neat bump!

How is everyone today - I'm feeling absolutely knackered so having a very lazy day lounging about while DH does the housework and shopping.

I also think I'm starting to get heartburn (dont know if I mentioned this already) - but I'm not really sure because I've never had it before [hmm'].

I can feel a burning sensation coming up my throat/windpipe. I always thought heartburn would be a bit more, well, near my heart??? Any advice welcome.

Also need to visit opticians - having loads of problems with one of my eyes (I wear contact lenses). I know pregnancy can temporarily make your eyesight worse, but I found out yesterday it can make your eyes a bit drier too so I suspect that (combined with my existing astigmatism) is causing the problems.

Crikey, how moany of me, I'm falling apart.. How's everyone else's weekend?

bitofadramaqueen I only had heart burn when pregnant with dd1 and found that peppermint tea help, Gaviscon is good too if you don't mind taking drugs. It got really bad towards the end and I used to have to try to sleep sitting up. Thankfully didn't have it with dd2 and hope I won't this time either!

ChinaS - That blog looks good! Do they give you free samples of the mums bar, I bought a pack the other day and they are actually quite nice! I don't know if it's still the same but organix food was by far the best jarred/pots of baby food around when dd2 was little, she mostly had homemade but really liked the pots if fruit and jars of Korma!
