@simplythequest @ancienthouse Sorry you're both still suffering too. The constant nausea and vomiting is just so wearing, isn't it.

The smell of the perfectly nice vegetables at Thanksgiving dinner made my stomach churn so badly I had to leave the table and go and sit in the den to recover. Got to have about 3 bites of the main and 1/4 of a brownie before I was done.

I had TONS of energy in my first pregnancy, in fact, so much nervous energy that I developed terrible insomnia. This time, I can sleep like the dead for 11 hours and still wake up exhausted. I'd like a middle way Goddamit!

MamaMenna · 29/11/2022 18:00

No increase of energy here either! Just totally different set of circumstances to first time round so not surprising really. Last time I had a job, this time I have a toddler and disturbed sleep. My admiration to those who have both and are still functioning, I hope you have good support.

Hannah223344 · 29/11/2022 19:56

@xalexandra @PuddingBear thanks ladies, that's reassuring! Just one worry from another isn't it!

...and the worries only magnify once they're here too 🤭 strap in!

Is anyone experiencing terrible stomach cramps when eating spicy food? I have just had some Piri piri chicken wings and I cannot tell you how much my stomach is hurting!

this happened earlier on with a spicy curry but I didn’t link ‘spicyness’ as non-pregnant me usually eats spicy food all the time….

Margo34 · 29/11/2022 21:21

Those of you with other DC - have you told them yet about your pregnancy? I haven't told the 2yo toddler yet, DH wants to, I think I'd rather wait a bit longer to reduce the number of times I'm asked "where's the baby mummy, I want to see the baby NOOOOOOWW!"

Is it cramps or heartburn/acid churning? Spicy food, acidic food and dark chocolate set off my heartburn something terrible in pregnancy. If I want to eat them it has to be at lunchtime, the later in the day the worse it gets!

ancienthouse · 29/11/2022 21:43

@Margo34 I've told DS, he is 3.5. He is so excited and asks a million questions but it's very sweet. Sometimes he understands it will be a while before the baby is here and other times he asks if the baby is coming today! He also keeps putting his hand on my tummy and saying he loves the baby and wants to feel it move. Today he asked me if I could have 2 babies so he has more friends to play with. I'm glad I told him early, it's lovely.

It’s cramping, has eased off now, less frequent and less severe. I did have indigestion before eating it so perhaps I was pushing it too far! I think I’ll just be avoiding spicy food in the future 🤣

No, not yet! My daughter is 2 next month so I don’t think she would understand quite yet even if we did 😅

If we do another gender reveal and she’s involved we’ll probably tell her then but I don’t expect her to “get” it for a few more months yet!

tattlytote · 30/11/2022 07:06

I've told DD5. It's the cutest thing ❤️

SavedByGraceAlone · 30/11/2022 08:47

Anyone else with a 20 week scan today? Mine's this afternoon at 2pm, so nervous and excited at once...! Can't believe it's actually today, been waiting for it for so long! Eeeeek xxx

LauraA31 · 30/11/2022 09:09

@SavedByGraceAlone good luck for this afternoon! 😅

My 20 week scan is in one week and im counting down the days! Got my flu and whooping cough vaccine this morning, the lady who booked me in for the flu vaccine said ‘what’s a whooping cough one?’ which filled me with loads of confidence 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

Tubbytele · 30/11/2022 11:14

@SavedByGraceAlone good luck for today! Mine is also this afternoon at 3 pm.

Tubbytele · 30/11/2022 11:18

@Margo34 2 year old DS knows that there's a baby in mama's belly but like @PuddingBear said, he doesn't really get it yet. I think it's still pretty abstract for him even though he clearly knows what a baby is.

ancienthouse · 30/11/2022 11:21

Good luck today @SavedByGraceAlone and @Tubbytele

I got my whooping cough vaccine yesterday after my scan and the nurse was a bit rough and it hurt going in. I never usually feel jabs!

Thanks to everyone for advice on the progesterone pessaries. I tried it vaginally once and it was soooo messy and made me constipated, which isn't great when I'm worried about pushing on my cervix too much! Rectally has been a lot easier if a bit weird to do!! I've realised it's the progesterone that's been making my sickness come back and making my reflux worse ughhh it's worth it but I just want to feel normal for a bit!

MamaMenna · 30/11/2022 11:38

@SavedByGraceAlone good luck with your scan. @LauraA31 mine is next week too!
@Margo34 no I've not told dd, who turned 2 recently, yet. I'm quite anxious about how it will affect her so I'm making any changes we need to make first, like we've just moved her into a single bed so I can put the cot away until baby arrives. I'm planning on telling her once bump gets too big and wriggly to ignore and also it won't be so long for her to wait. I don't think she will properly understand until baby gets here.

Lid88 · 30/11/2022 11:39

@CausingKaos One to keep an eye on - in my last pregnancy with DD I also experienced bad cramps from time to time with food, once at around 24 weeks I was on all 4s in the bathroom convinced I was in labour then it would pass. I put it down to very bad heartburn and got on with it. A year after DD was born I had it again at work, and ended up in a&e - turns out I had gallstones triggered by pregnancy and ended up very unwell from them, I had my gallbladder out. My surgeon said the pains in pregnancy were from the gallstones and it reguarly happens to pregnant women, he said especially the 5 Fs - female, fertile, fourty, fair and fat (yes really haha). I'm 34 and not over weight but he said it was highly likely they developed during pregnancy. If you experience any jaundice symptoms after the pains such as dark pee or light poop, get yourself seen please :)

Good luck to all those with scans today! it still hasn't set in that I'm having another girl and I have a hilarious video telling DD who is 2.5 that she's got a baby sister, to which she responds very sassily "I don't want a baby sister! I want a baby brother!" and threw the scan picture away haha

I am a fellow HG sufferer, still on daily meds, still sick daily and bloody exhausted. Honestly I don't know how I'm doing this and working each day!

x

alwaysseeingstars · 30/11/2022 11:41

good luck today @SavedByGraceAlone and @Tubbytele ! And congrats to all those who had scan in the past couple of days - gosh does this thread move fast 😂
@Longbin sorry to hear you've been struggling, that must've been pretty scary. Glad you're feeling better now though!

I really want the regular movements to kick in soon, it's so nerve wracking when you get a lot of movements and then nothing for ages! On a positive note we have now started our first dip into buying baby things - pushchair now ordered and the tommee tippee close to nature set purchased 😄

Peachesthecat · 30/11/2022 12:03

Oh ladies just when I thought I was having a smoother time - at work and pink discharge. I’m a natural worrier but trying to relax. What do you think?
im going to day assessment after work but now manically checking in the loo every 2 mins 🙄🙄 oh 19 weeks x

LauraA31 · 30/11/2022 12:10

@Peachesthecat I hope that everything is ok! It’s so hard to relax when you see something like that; i had another bleed this weekend at 18 weeks and it terrified me! Spoke with my midwife team who weren’t concerned in the slightest and advised me to rest up as much as possible as i have my 20 week scan a week today!

I have also been wiping every 2 blooming minutes; it’s horrible isn’t it! I haven’t had any since Monday morning so hoping it stays that way 🤞🏻
Fingers crossed you don’t get anymore either! X

Longbin · 30/11/2022 12:14

I've told my daughter but she doesn't understand yet. She says baby and points to her own belly, but I don't think she appreciates a baby will be joining the family next year

Thank you so much! Sorry you have had a scare too. It’s too much sometimes isn’t it?! Non stop worry 🤯 fingers crossed for both of us! Xxx

Thank you so much for this advice! I will keep this in mind 🥰

Jexi · 30/11/2022 14:14

Hope everyone that has a scan today goes well. ☺️

My children know, they're 8, 9 and 13. 8 year old is SO helpful. She carried the shopping bag last night insisting I was not to carry it. Very sweet.

13 year old is meh as is DS9 but he does have SEN so his reactions to things can be a little different to the "norm"

My 20 week scan is tomo finally 🎉

I was at the GP yesterday as I had awful flank pain, exactly the same as when I had kidney infection and stones. Whilst I wasn't showing any other signs of infection she was reluctant to prescribe antibiotics. I'm hoping it just settles down.
