MarchMum · 08/02/2008 22:11

happy friday night! dh in paris for work so i get bed all to myself. have just bought 'what mothers do' and am going to curl up and read it.

turtle, received cd today, many thanks and also for your explanation of 4/5 engaged - the exact same thing happened with my gp visit thursday and he had no idea why it was hurting. now i know! am secretly hoping LO stays high until wed as having pregnancy portraits done for dh's v-day present.

glam, also wondering what's up with your scan?

turtle23 · 08/02/2008 22:17

My pleasure, MM. Have more, but you have to start somewhere!!Don't know about you, but having lower bump doesn't make me look any LESS pregnant!

fitnfortyone · 08/02/2008 23:11

studentmum and glam big hugs for suffering insensitive sonographers.

Had a great day out window shopping (mostly) yesterday, comparing bumps with fellow preggers bird. Managed to resist buying any more baby things but treated myself to a samsonite backpack reduced from £40 to £11. Tried to find some decent slip on trainers with good arch support but the only ones i found in my size fitted as well as a glass slipper on an Ugly Sister .

Pool has arrived from hire company, but have to rearrange dining room first to make more room for it - no idea how much access the m/w needs when you're in the pool, is it all the way round or is from one side sufficient?

Also, anyone else struggling over naming the baby? I actually dreamt we'd agreed on a name the other night, woke up and told DH straight away before i forgot, but it's quite an old-fashioned name so not sure what to do about it! I'm a firm believer in the subconscious telling you the solution to things so it's hard to reconcile to a weirder name than we'd normally go for

doup76 · 09/02/2008 05:11

Feeling much better, cold nearly gone now. Very of those who are sleeping through the night......

Went for my last scan the other day and placenta is sufficiently out of the way for a normal birth. Baby is 6lb 2oz or 2.7 kg at the mo, and although he hasn't grown much in the last month they said that it was still within the normal parameters. So all in all quite reassuring.

So what kind of music do people think they will want to listen to while in labour.....?

Glam - big hug by the way....I'll be thinking of you.

merryberry · 09/02/2008 06:58

fitnforty i've heard the figure they want access 2/3 of way round the pool

fit - i cant decide on what to call this little one, i like lily and lucy but not sure which the most! worried that lily is perhaps a bit popular. we quite like the middle name kate though and lily kate sounds better then lucy kate. ill prob change my mind the day i have it. did that with dd2 she was eve till i went into labour then i decided on amelia rose. dd1 was ella from the 20 week scan.

Glammama · 09/02/2008 12:26

Hello all.
Spugs, must say I like Lily! My DD is Lillith and although nobody calls her Lily, I call her Lil. Lily doesn't seem too popular in her age group but I can't speak for babies.

Sorry about throwing in the dwarf element there and then buggering off! I'm just being silly. At my scan last Monday LO's abdomen was on the 95th percentile and his femur on the 5th, which is very different to how it was in October 31st. I posted a thread on it and am slightly reassured. If anything, it just sounds like he has inherited my body type I don't care how small he is, as long as he doesn't have any serious problems.

As regards music, I've been compliing an MP3 type thing for a few weeks. It's amazing when you look through your collection, songs like "Rip Her to Shreds", "Torn" and "The First Cut is the Deepest" just leap out at you! My ex used to joke about playing "Push it Out" by Beta Band. I'm concerned that if I put all my favourite songs on it and the birth is L O N G then I may never want to listen to them again. I'm going for a mix of upbeat and chilled, a bit of ambient trance and I'm also going to take a Peter Kay CD and laugh this baby out!!!!!

Enjoy the saturday and the sunshine if you're lucky to have some. I'm off to the shops. X

Glammama · 09/02/2008 12:27

Oh and Papaya, thanks for the nappy link. I bough some too!!!

doup76 · 09/02/2008 12:57

thanks glam. that's exactly what I was wondering about....whether to go chilled or upbeat and motivational on the music front and clearly should do both!

e14mum · 09/02/2008 16:47

bought nappies too- thanks papaya!

MarchMum · 10/02/2008 08:56

I succumbed to nappies as well, just such a good deal even though am going to try and use the disposables for just the first bit

Turtle I feel this same pain but bump is still high for some reason, so maybe she's just thinking about burrowing down.

I had a reflexology treatment Friday and one again booked for my due date, apparently supposed to help engaging/prevent induction, we'll see. I did have the most horrific Bhicks last night so clearly my uterus is ready to go. Was interesting though - all I wanted to be was in the bath, so my instinct for water birth must be on!

Dh and I off to baby first aid class today....

MarchMum · 10/02/2008 08:57

ps LOL when I read the first cut is the deepest...am def not having that song!

fitnfortyone · 10/02/2008 12:47

Love the music selection, how about "Turn" for those suffering breech babies?
Don't know what my playlist says about me though, this morning I had "Patience" followed by "Run" and "Walk Away"....

After 2 nice sleepful nights earlier in the week, bladder issues made sure i didn't have much sleep until last night! We've now put an extra mattress under our normal mattress to help me flop out of bed more easily...but also makes it really soft so I sink into the Tempur one even more easily!

Dog has now spent 3 nights outside the bedroom - he only sneaked back in once which was Friday night, so I let him in this morning about 6ish as he hadn't scratched the door. All being well we should get him downstairs in another week or so!
Loving the sunny weather, great for washing/drying all those baby clothes.

fitnfortyone · 10/02/2008 12:50

ps still trying to set up the birthing pool - got as far as assembling/putting liner on when i realised the heater element needs to be in a different place, so will have to rearrange the room to accommodate that. Not so much of a prob if we didn't have a huge dining table which we have to keep in the room, so have to find a way of fitting the table around the other furniture to maximise floor space.

Can't wait to try it out though

merryberry · 10/02/2008 12:56

fitnforty, i was explaing to dp we may need to lob the dining table outside, and anil up an extra cover to block some light and etc etc to make birth room ready...he just laughed at the uber-nesting. then i cried and he stopped!

derah · 10/02/2008 16:38

Hello folks.

We've got our pool inflated and 1/3 filled in the middle of the lounge - it's trial run day!! It was very quick to inflate, but took 20 mins to fill just to 1/3, so reckon it will take an hour on the day. That should be OK though, and it doesn't need to be full before I get in. Even empty, it just felt so comfortable kneeling on the bottom and flopped over the side, so I'm really looking forward to using it on the day. It's also small enough at one end that I can wedge my feet against the back for extra leverage during pushing. With DD, even though it was a bed not a pool, I found being on all fours didn't work for me cos I didn't have anything to push against with my feet. So, really looking forward to my home pool birth now, as long as LO can hold on for another week I should be good to go!

Which brings us to the more worrying news.... I had some contractions last night! I've been having lots of BHick (which I dont remember having with DD) but last night I woke up at 1am to pee, had some cramping which felt suspiciously contraction-like but it was very mild so I didn't think too much of it. But over the next couple of hours it got worse and worse, to the point where I was really starting to think that this was it! Proper tightening starting at the front and moving round to the back. Luckily they stopped all of a sudden and I've had nothing since. Baby has been very wriggly too.... something is going on in there!

spugs · 10/02/2008 16:46

ooo you might be next, we must be due some more babies by now!

fitnfortyone · 10/02/2008 16:47

ooh derah, visualise a padlock down below for another week so your LO doesn't arrive early (and give him/her a good stern talking to about the consequences of being too quick!!!)

merry, bless! Aren't hormones wonderful

Took an hour and 5 mins to fill our pool, have got the cover on at the moment as i need DH to help with the pump bit next and that'll have to be during 1/2 time in the liverpool game. Once we flush the air out of the thermostat/heater thingy then i can put the filter in and leave it for a bit then use fairly soon i suspect! Don't like the plasticy smell though, so got the scented candles on the go already, lol .

Once I'm happy with the pool the baby can turn up as soon as he likes, don't care about the state of the house!

derah · 10/02/2008 16:53

Ooooh, no, I don't want to be next!!

I'm 36 weeks on Tue, mw won't do home birth before 37 weeks, so I need to hold on until next Tuesday at least!!

But, once I've hit 37 weeks I'll be happy enough if LO shows up early. I've had enough of being pg now! I'm so big and achy and uncomfortable. DD arrived at 38 weeks but I've always blamed a rather vigorous aqua-kickboxing class (and not even an antenatal one!) for that! My waters broke an hour after I got home!

PurlyQueen · 10/02/2008 16:55

goodness - we're all on the home stretch now!
Baby is 4/5 engaged, which is good news, according to my mum (an ex midwife).

I've just brought the starting date of my maternity leave forward to 29th Feb. I can't make it until the 9th March.
We went for a walk along the seafront at Brighton yesterday (along with most of London, it seemed!). By the end I was walking like an old lady.

piggyp · 10/02/2008 17:37

Oooo, it's all getting quite exciting! I wonder who will be next. Maybe you derah! How did you know you were having proper contractions not just BH?
Saw mw on fri and LO is no longer back to back! All my side sleeping and no slumping on sofa seem to have worked. Feeling fat'n'uncomfortable now -7 weeks tomorrow, yikes!! TENS machine arrived yesterday, to scary to unpack though.
It's been such a lovely sunny weekend I feel really recharged mentally! Poor dh is realling suffering the effects of my house clearing / nesting. He had lots of fun moving a big old sofa upstairs - it wouldn't fit up the stairs so he had to haul it with chains, pulleys etc up onto the balcony. Then we found that one of the doors had been locked shut and painted over, with the lock inside the secondary glazing! Such fun! Luckily sofa looks good1

merryberry · 10/02/2008 18:23

tbh i think its remarkable we haven't had anymore babies yet! i am also waiting for a date (friday when pool comes) before I feel ready to go, i'm hanging on tight. don't feel that ready to go, tho' deffo having more BH now, even on just resting.

OK, better go and decontaminate the kitchen after our late sunday lunch.

merryberry · 10/02/2008 18:24

er, piggyp, the sofa looks good...still on the balcony?

3madboys · 10/02/2008 18:46

ooh how exciting all this setting up of birth pools etc

i decided against a birth pool in the end as ds3 only took 3hrs to turn up and i am not sure that i will have time to get it sorted, well for dp to get back from work and then get it sorted.

i laboured in the bath with ds2 an ds3, that was fine and our bath has a shower over it so dp can spray that on my back if i need it, i am only 5 2 and still quite little despite my football tummy so i can fit in the bath ok.

have been having quite a few baths the past few weeks due to braxton hicks, still at least it has meant i can try out dif positions in the bath and see what is comfy etc.

i am now 37wks and 2 days so baby can turn up if it likes, well actually no it cant as i havent bought any maternity pads or anything mil is visiting next week and am going to leave ds1 and ds2 with her whilst dp and i go shopping to get all the last bit

the others were all late tho so i am assuming this one will be, tho i would be quite chuffed if it turned up on its due date 29th feb

fitnfortyone · 10/02/2008 20:08

3mb wish i could use the bath but it's a fairly shallow one and not great for my length (though only 5'6") so if i lie in it, nothing but my thighs are covered!!! And after 5 mins my toes go numb, so don't find it comfy at all. Am even going to resort to using the showers at the gym now as they're much more spacious than an ensuite for those with bumps

Am getting quite concerned that my hormones force me to get choked up watching a good performance on Dancing on Ice, how bad is that
