So I showed DH the nappies.
He found the lollipop softee way too bulky(which it is, even if it is lovely and soft) and didn't like the poppers on the motherease (which I found fiddly too). I may well use a few terries/muslins in the early days as my mum got us some anyway, but I think now it is really a choice between the bumgenius and the eco-disposables. TBH I think we'll use disposables at first then gradually switch to Bumgenius. Just need to let him get used to the idea first
feedmenow - I got the lollipop and bumgenius from lollipop (www.teamlollipop.co.uk). I met with an adviser last week which was really helpful and she ordered one of each for me - so long as they are not used or washed I can get a refund. I picked up the motherease in Waitrose a while ago, my mum bought me some terries, and the bambo came from spiritofnature.co.uk which is doing free samples of those and moltex. That lot together seemed to be a good selection of the different type of nappies you get (lollipop like totsbots, motherease like onelife etc)
Piggy - Overall I really like bumgenius. They come in nice colours so look good for starters They go on exactly like disposables (everyone recommended them to me on a Nappy thread I started asking for the most disposable-like reusable), and they have about the same amount of handling when you take them off. Plus because they're a fleece insert inside a nappy then they should wash and dry really easily as the individual bits are thinner and you can just restuff them when they're dry so that you're all set when it comes to nappy changes. They're not as soft as some of the things like lollipops and tot bots, but they are much slimmer so more likely to fit under most baby clothes. And they come with two inserts per nappy so you can add in extra protection if the baby is a heavy wetter, or for night times.
I'll probably go ahead and get them from my lollipop lady, together with a starter pack of liners and the mesh bag. I may just get a bucket with lid from my local pound shop so I can get a big one though - probably cheaper as well! I know Waitrose sells flushable liners so that shouldn't be a problem going forward. Plus they're birth to potty which makes it straightforward.
I'm going to let DH mull over it for a bit but I think he was surprised at how similar to a disposable Bumgenius was so I'm hoping that plus the £ and environment benefits will swing it
Right off to bed! Night all
