Hello all.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
piggyp · 05/02/2008 18:17

Gosh, what a busy talking day - I guess we're not so busy with work now!
Suddenly feel much more uncomfortable today - hope LO isn't going to come early, I'm not at all organised!
Just a little survey re pancakes - dh has responded in shock that i plan only to eat pancakes (with sugar and lemon, poss some with choc) for supper, I'll be aiming for about six. He thinks that 'normal people' have an ordinary supper and just one pancake for pudding. What is normal???

HolidaysQueen · 05/02/2008 18:20

piggy - normal for me, even when not pg, is an ordinary dinner AND six pancakes...

merryberry · 05/02/2008 18:32

there's protein (egg) and carb (flour and sugar) and veg (lemon juice) in 6 pancakes. that's balanced and normal, surely

OP posts:
JFly · 05/02/2008 18:39

I know Lent is about denial (well partly), but surely we're exempt in our condition! Eat an even dozen pancakes, I say. Dinner optional.

turtle23 · 05/02/2008 18:54

Marchmum-do you still have my number? If so, text me your adress and I'll send you copies of my relaxation cds and some exercises if you like? If you dont have it email me at sarah turtle hopewell at gmail dot com. xx

BTW ladies, normal is eating for one, so there is no limit on pancakes for us. I, personally, have had 7. But then again, I'm running a one woman competition to see how much weight gain is possible in pregnancy.

MarchMum · 05/02/2008 18:57

thanks turtle! will email you....
ps to merryberry - you rock on wo(man) handling the consultant on induction...

derah · 05/02/2008 19:23

Ah, see, now after having pancakes with suagr and lemon for lunch, I'm making 'grown up' pancakes for supper, by filling them with mushroom and mange tout in a cream sauce, grating cheese on top and them baking them.

I'd better get cooking, actaully!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RAINBOWDAYS!!

Jaysthird · 05/02/2008 19:24

mmm pancakes, i had two savory ones, then a few (read five!) some with icecream and chocolate sauce one with strawberries and the other two with good old lemon juice and sugar! - think me and you are in competition turtle, re the weight gain!!

DD and DS didnt much go for the savory ones, but as for the sweet ones, 'mad for 'em!!' DS is just 10 months and had a heap of fun with his, i have had to strip the highchair completely and i even found chocolate sauce in his nappy!!

JFly i doubt VERY much i will keep up with you lot, you seem to be a constant stream of convo!! I WILL try though, just dont forget about me lurking in the shadows!

Thanks for the welcome mumofbilly.... and at the 3 hr journey you are having to.. i hope its worth it!

I added myself to the stats thread BTW , there are a ZILLION of us... i am sure when i had DS lat March there wasnt that many!!!!!

right then, off to read up on some more of your tips/thoughts/advice/general banter!!

monthlymayhem · 05/02/2008 19:53

Crikey!!! trying to keep track of this thread is a full time job

Studentmum- hope ur ok after accident

Rainbowdays - happy birthday!

I had a midwife appt today (34weeks) and all seems fine. Baby still head down, and growth seems to have slowed down - whereas my chart was plotting well above the higher end, over the last few weeks it seems to have slowed down. So, they now seem to think it will be on the smaller side of average. I'm really not sure they have a clue and as I've had a different mw at virtually every appt I think they're all just measuring differently...

On the induction topic - this is my main worry as I really would like a water birth at my community midwife unit, and if induced you can't go there.. MW today said that once I get to 40 weeks they will try membrane sweeps and possibly acupuncture to try and help bring on labour, so at least it sounds as though they'll give natural methods a good go first. Not to mention the fact that by that stage I will be downing curry, pineapple and raspberry leaf tea by the gallon (I've also given DH advance warning of his 'duties' )

Up until now, most people have commented that I have a nice, small, neat bump (or at least that's what they're telling me to my face)...so I was horrified when I was in Boots yesterday and girl said 'Can't be long for you now?'. I replied 'No, jut 6 weeks to go', to which she said 'Oh my gosh, you really are huge aren't you!!!' . I was so shocked that someone would actually say that to a complete stranger that I didn't manage to make any clever retort and spent the rest of the day absolutely fuming!!

Anyway, if I look huge I may as well eat huge, so am off to make some pancakes

feedmenow · 05/02/2008 20:00

Piggy, I feel a bit like you too! Am sitting here really aware of how huge my belly is and how bleeding uncomfortable I am! Have been getting an awful lot of twinges deep in pelvis that are new to me. Perhaps aggravated pelvis and bladder.
I honestly don't know how my body is going to cope with another 6 weeks (or maybe 8 ) of this baby growing!! I'm seriously running out of room....of course, dinner followed by 3 pancakes with vanilla ice cream and blueberries may not be helping!!!

I too am shocked by the lack of consideration on public transport, etc. Considering that we British are supposed to me all P's and Q's and manners in general, what what, then it is just a joke! I haven't experienced it myself but can honestly say that if I do I will not be backwards in coming forwards in telling people to move their backsides and let me sit down!

MarchMum · 05/02/2008 21:45

hmmm...pancake induced coma....LO fighting for room...

turtle23 · 05/02/2008 22:01

Jaysthird...ha! We'll see about that, last weigh-in I had gained 24 kgs.

skidoodle · 05/02/2008 23:49

hi everyone, welcome jaysthird

I'm sick, pooooooor me my sore throat has turned into a head cold with blocked sinuses. I went into work today but I shouldn't have and ended up coming home early. I don't know whether I'll make it in tomorrow. I hope so, I've a lot to do but my head feels like a lead weight and I'm really sleepy in that sinusy way so won't work.

HQ Lilt is great I've rediscovered all sorts of drinks I hadn't had since I was a kid since being pregnant. My BIL calls Lilt "tropical cocktail" when I'm around at their house drinking it.

piggyp on pancake tuesday you eat pancakes FOR dinner. also, it is important to have a competition in the family to see who can eat the most. Unfortunately I've never managed more than 2, but I'm not a big fan of the pancake. I haven't even had a proper pancake tuesday since I moved out of my parents' home.

JFly - Lent starts tomorrow, everyone is exempt today. Pancake Tuesday really is the best holiday that doesn't come with a day off - a feast day all about gluttony right at the most miserable part of the year. I love it even though I don't especially love pancakes.

Years ago in California an Irish man and I were trying to explain to some Californian friends about how breakfast worked in Ireland:

"well, you don't get offered ten types of bread for a start. And you eat either cereal and toast or sausages, rashers and eggs"
"what about pancakes?"
"no, you never eat pancakes for breakfast"
"what? well when do you eat them?"
"for dinner. but only on pancake tuesday"
"what's that? like National Pancake Day?"
"yeah, pretty much"
"do you have that for other foods? Like National Sausage Day?"
"nope, just for pancakes"

Jaysthird · 06/02/2008 06:47

OP posts:
turtle23 · 06/02/2008 08:38

merry-good luck!
Jays3rd-POOR YOU! I recommend chocolate. Sending you much sympathy.

SpaceHopperHayls · 06/02/2008 10:12

Jaysthird, I hope that you manage to get some rest today. I had a crappy night last night too - everytime I rolled over to try and find a position that didn't hurt my back, I was getting acid burps. Sounds like your night was worse though.

Bloke let the dogs out of the kitchen when he went to work this morning, and when I woke up they were both asleep on the bed with me - strictly forbidden since we are trying to reinforce the No Dogs Upstairs rule before the baby arrives, but also very nice, like two great big warm teddies.

Consultant this afternoon - hoping for a size estimate. Does anyone think I'm likely to get one?

e14mum · 06/02/2008 10:33

I have had the most horrendous journey to work (only 2 left now) not helped by the fact that I walk about as fast as a sloth right now. So the rest of the commuters were whizzing about and I was inching along...

Sorry all of you who had bad nights, but yum... the pancakes were worth it! (Didn't bother to count, but I ate a LOT of them!)

SpaceHopperHayls · 06/02/2008 10:46

Was so thrilled at pregnancy giving me open licence to eat more pancakes than Bloke last night that I have decided to extend Pancake Day to Pancake Week, so will be making some more this afternoon...

e14 - are you counting down the work hours yet? By this time last week I was torn between blind panic that there was stuff that I wasn't going to be able to hand over thoroughly, and just not caring...

timmyinatizzy · 06/02/2008 10:56

E14 I too only have two more days at work. There are a few things that are out of my control that I won't be able to complete before Friday, just hoping it won't go tits up on Monday for them! I am also on a go slow mode when walking from the station to work. I do however cheat and get the bus to Victoria station in the evening

I'm so of everyone that had pancakes last night, dh was on his way back from Paris and dsd's had some at the childminders so I didn't have any . Might have to investigate to see if Sainsburys have any batter mix left on the way home.

Got into work this morning and a work colleague of mine has presented with a box of stuff and wrapped pressie. She pleaded with me to open the box of stuff and there was the cutest little teddy bear hat thing with ears and matching gloves. She also got some baby gros of different sizes too. Nearly cried with the thoughtfulness. She did admit that her dp was getting worried when she kept bringing these things home!

m27 · 06/02/2008 11:31

Hello everyone. One of my intermittant posts. Can't check this regularly as people would notice at work so it has to wait till a 'working at home' day when I can spend an hour or so catching up on pages of chat. Probably ought to have done some work too but really can't be arsed.

I know the conversation was pages ago, but weird pregnancy dreams.... in the last few weeks I've dreamt that I've given birth to:

  1. A piece of fried fish
  2. A kitten
  3. A tiny mouse small enough to fit into my contact lens case.

So looking forward to maternity leave now. Just hoping I get the full 3 weeks of sitting on sofa, and don't go into labour early. BH are definately stronger and more frequent now but hopefully that's not a sign of anything.

HolidaysQueen · 06/02/2008 11:32

Is this weird: I finish work next week at 34 weeks and am trying to think of all the things I could do before PFB arrives. I thought I could maybe start calling in at mum and baby groups locally just to get to know people and get out of the house and see what they do, or do you think that would be really weird? I'm not sure of the etiquette around pregnant women turning up at mum and baby events!

DH and I ate too much pie and mash last night, and I'd had pancakes at lunch, so we're pancaking tonight instead. So Hayls, I'm with you on Pancake Week!

HQ xx

skidoodle · 06/02/2008 11:55

LMAO @ m27's list of "things I dreamt I gave birth to"

a piece of fried fish?! brilliant

I needed that laugh. I'm even more sick today. boo hoo my face aches and my teeth ache and coughing hurts my bump. poor little me.

I'm such a dreadful patient.

I had a good chat with my Mum earlier about bfing and I was telling her about some of the advice I've had from this thread and she was most impressed. She especially like the one about keeping a drink nearby for when you get thirsty. She never thought of that.

m27 · 06/02/2008 11:57

Just watched that YouTube footage of woman giving birth that Turtle posted. Bloody hell - how did she manage to look so gorgeous the whole time? Perhaps it was the sultry soothing music playing throughout?! I'll be purple faced and screaming, I imagine. Still, something to aim for...

Glammama · 06/02/2008 11:58

Hello,
Well, I have just come back from hospital and I'm booked in for an External Cephalic Version next Wednesday to make the baby somersault. 50% chance of it working but not looking forward to it.
And just found out that my Co-op are not going to do anything about the mould and I'm supposed to wash it with bleach. Just had a little cry as I feel a bit miserable so now have to put some slap on as I'm going out again and all I really want to do is crawl under the duvet and sob.
