Hi everyone

There's still some space in the old thread - Waddling Zombies and Dancing Babies so no need to start posting yet. Just thought I would get it set up before I go home tonight ready for all you insommiacs!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ginger, HV called me the week before I gave birth and came to see me on the Weds (day before I gave birth). She basically said she wanted to pop round and give me all info I needed before they were born. I didn't get in touch with them at all so presume midwife or someone did.

Last time though, with DS, I didn't hear from HV until midwives had discharged me, I think she called the day after last midwife visit.

Forgot to say, both babies are above birth weight now, fattie Jacob by HALF A POUND, and Rebecca by 1.5oz, but she had dropped more weight at last weigh in so still a good gain for her. I know it would not have happened if I was bf, the poor little mites would probably be being tube fed in special care after getting nothing from me .

Right, Rebecca is fed, Jacob is waiting, I have bottles to wash and my mum is coming in half an hour (hurrah!). DH is back to work tomorrow, he has taken DS1 for a walk to the park at the mo.

Sarah, my doula starts tomorrow, she is coming four days a week from about 10am to about 3pm although this will change a bit from day to day. My mum is here for the week but will then go home on Friday. So from next Monday I will have the scary 6:30am to 10am bit to myself with all three! It should be ok except I have to get DS to nursery, but if it comes to it I can wait for the doula at 10am and she can take him or stay with babies while I take him. We have not taken them out yet, had hoped to today but it just hasn't happened, esp as DS1 had a 3-hour nap at lunch after too many days of not enough sleep.

rozzyraspberry · 20/01/2008 16:48

Hi all!

Keep expecting more baby news every time I come on here but nothing more as yet although by the sounds of it it could be quite soon for a number of you. Very exciting but having just finished work I'm hoping this one will stay inside for a few more weeks so I can relax into my leave. 37 weeks yesterday and still feel remarkably well so have been really lucky.

Glad to hear your babies are doing well Ginger and Egg. Ginger, like Egg said the hv usually comes to visit a day or two after you've been discharged from the midwife care. Egg try to not worry about being on your own next week - things are never as bad as you think they're going to be and at the end of the day as long as they all get fed and are safe that's all that really matters. You sound level headed so I'm sure you'll be fine. I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that colic doesn't start until around 6 weeks so hopefully thats not what's bothering Jacob. I could be wrong though as I had always thought it could start from birth. Anyway I remember going through a similar thing with ds2 - one particular night DH was on a night shift and I remember sitting down and crying as ds2 just wouldn't settle. Never came to anything though so think it was probably a growth spurt. Might be worth trying some of the wind remedies though. I used powder stuff with ds1 which was good but can't remember what it was called - they sell it in chemists though.

Anyway off to make tea for the monsters - they've been driving me up the wall today. DH is working this weekend and they have way too much energy. Have had them out bouncing on their trampoline to tire them out and am now letting them watch some tv so I can have some peace!!

Take Care.

mutha2beagain · 20/01/2008 17:02

Ginger - thanks for the concern. I do in fact have first hand experience of syntocinon with no pain relief accompaniment and I'm with you on that one - it ain't pretty and left me utterly traumatised - not an experience I want to repeat if I can help it. The problem is that if they suggest induction I'm not sure if they're happy to administer epidural simultaneously especially if dilatation hasn't even got going yet... the rationale being that the pain relief slows everything down.... well can't think too hard about this as anything can happen in the next few weeks. BTW, sorry to hear that you're having to endure the discomfort of an infection - not exactly what you need right now I'm sure.

Egg - delighted to hear that your babes are building up body weight and getting stronger by the day, but boy your schedule sounds complicated! Hope you are getting a few little breaks here and there to keep up your energy levels and good that you've got reinforcements coming since your DH is returning to work. Hope that Jacob's crying jags are not the start of colic - I had this with DS for a couple of months and just used to make sure that I put him in the baby bjorn for about half an hour after each feed and kept him as upright as possible during. No doubt the HV can give you further advice on this.

Off to stick a chicken in the oven now.

Gill79 · 20/01/2008 17:42

Hi all - no babies this weekend then - wonder where we'll be at by next Sunday? 38 weeks tomorrow! Nowt going on really but have had a bit of period pain on and off for a few days - very faint though so not holding my breath!

Tyaca - I've messaged you through MN - let me know if you don't get it.

Egg - here's hoping it's not colic for both your sakes..... I didn' realise Doulas were for post-natal help as well.

London ladies - am going to set up a thread for another meet up under "Meet-Ups" - or resurrect the old one, or something. Unless someone's beaten me to it.

No word from Bessie - presumably enjoying being on mat leave finally? Must say that having been on leave for a week now it's been GREAT and I wish I'd started ages ago...

OP posts:
Egg · 20/01/2008 17:51

Oooh I had lots of period like pain before the REAL THING .

Thanks for advice re colic. I don't think it is, I mentioned it to the midwife and she didn't seem too worried and she is lovely and not "dismissive".

Good advice re: Baby Bjorn, I am hoping to carry them in the sling if DS1 needs to go in the pushchair but think they are just too darn small at the mo.

Am going back to waking them every 3 hours to feed in day as otherwise they seem to sleep all day and eat all night.

Mum running late , did not realise engineering works this weekend.

Another meet up? Without MEEEEEEEEEE? Am ready for the South-East one, well, when I dare leave the house. Would want to do it on a nursery day as don't think I could cope with DS1 as well as two monkey babies!

Gill79 · 20/01/2008 18:14

Maybe we can conference call you in Egg? Live video feed back to MN?

I've bumped February Babies in the Big Smoke so get your names down.

pobletsmum · 20/01/2008 18:39

Hello everyone,

I have been keeping a close eye on the thread, and I thought there might have been a new arrival or two over the past couple of days, but you're obviously all hanging on a bit longer. Hope all goes well for those with period pains, leaking waters etc. Can't wait to hear all your good news!

egg - you could try infacol before each feed for Jacob. It really helped DS to bring up his wind, and is suitable from birth. It's available at chemists & supermarkets.

I was at the hospital last week, and gave my final decision re: CS or natural delivery. I have chosen to try natural (and have booked a wonderful doula to be with me), but I am allowed to change my mind mid-labour if progress isn't good etc. The Dr checked the baby's position and did a mini-scan (lovely unexpected surprise!) which confirmed that the baby's back is on my left, a really good position. I was scared she was back-to-back like DS, so it was a huge relief. Head not engaged yet, but DR said head can engage in an hour for 2nd delivery! Unfortunately my BP was up. Had it re-checked at the end of appt and it had dropped to just within normal limits, so I was allowed to leave. Midwife will be visiting me tomorrow and will re-check it then, so we'll see what happens. BP was raised at very end of pg with DS (plus mega-swelling & 'floaters') but he was born within a week, so it wasn't too much of a problem. I'm only 36+4 today, so hoping BP doesn't keep rising or it could be a miserable few weeks. I did have floaters in my vision (like little silver fish) twice yesterday, but they went quickly so I'm not too worried. Fingers crossed that BP is down tomorrow...

pobletsmum · 20/01/2008 18:51

...and at first mention of induction, I'll be asking for a C-section!

Jo9977 · 20/01/2008 19:23

The suspense is killing me from all you ladies with these pains etc! I've got nothing even in sight of those at the moment so am pretty frustrated...I want my baby and I want him NOW!!!

Remind me of this post in a month...

LOVEMYMUM · 20/01/2008 20:10

Egg - Good to hear from you. Glad you seem to be getting into a routine (or will hopefully do so when the doula arrives).

Gill - maternity leave is lovely. It's wonderful not to have to get up in the morning.

Hi mutha - how annoying to have to train somebody else!

Am getting fed-up of being tired. At least as LO is breach i can't feel her head inbetween my legs. Every cloud has a silver lining!

beansprout · 20/01/2008 20:11

lol Jo!

So many of us with pains/twinges/leaks etc! Good luck to all of those who are having to keep an eye on protein, BP etc too.

I also promised myself last time that if I was induced (drip, not pessary), I would take the epidural at that point. The machine told me how much stronger the contractions were and I was glad I did. As I keep saying, there are no medals!!

I keep telling myself (and everyone else) that I am feeling calm atm, but I nervously bit my lip last night... and it took half an hour to get it to stop bleeding. Was really bleeding too, as in, running down my chin!! Took an ice pack to sort it out...

Egg - thanks for letting me know about the PJs, hope they are just the ticket Gill!

Hope everyone who are already holding their babies is well and that the rest of us are not too uncomfortable!!

LOVEMYMUM · 20/01/2008 20:17

Hi bean. Am also getting nervous. My possible c-section is only 4 or 5 weeks away. A bit nervous about the op, more nervous about being a mum! Appetite is decreasing too. I think it's my nerves.

beansprout · 20/01/2008 20:23

My appetite went at about the same stage (but is back now!!)

If you want to talk about non scary c-sections, please CAT me, I'd be happy to reassure you. I've been on high alert re elective sections recently and everyone has said they are calm, peaceful etc. Yes, they take some recovering from but lots of people want to help when you have a new baby anyway and you will be ok!!

LOVEMYMUM · 20/01/2008 20:43

Thanks bean. That's kind of you.

I know c-sections are routine. My mum had three and had infections after two of them and she's perfectly ok now (apart from a fibroid but that's not related). I just don't want the injection in my back!

cosima · 20/01/2008 21:36

if anyone has a spare minute and is highly organised could they do a list of Febbers cos I get really confused who is who and who's had the baby and what stage everyone is at. Hope you are all doing well tho.

tyaca · 21/01/2008 02:02

Oh pants, another bad night. Have been awake since 3am with bump pain. Just one long pain rather than on and off. Fortunately ds is at nursery in the morning (er, that would be later then) so I can just come back and rest/call MW/start to panic.

Unfortunately, dh will be taking the lap top so I won't be able to log on and keep you posted!!

And where is Leesmum btw?!! Hope you are ok. My money is on you being the next one to hatch!!

Pk616 · 21/01/2008 07:59

tyaca - I am on the list!! It took me a while but I'm there, right between rozzy and looby!

Oh MILs here, catch up later!

Pk616 · 21/01/2008 09:17

MILs gone now, thank god! Na she's lovely but far too excited about her first grandchild and so becoming very suffocating and just a bit of an interfering busy body! Hopefully, when the baby's actually here and shes had a couple of weeks of being a gran, she'll start being herself again and leave me the hell alone! Me thinks me hopes too much!
Not been on all weekend as DPs been home and playing one of his games the entire time. I made no arguement because he won't be getting away with that once the baby's born! Anyway, this means that I'm all out of touch again and trying to catch up is a bit of a nightmare sometimes. I'll have a read through and see if I can figure out where we all are!

Egg · 21/01/2008 09:24

Morning all. Quickly saying hello before babies need feeding and doula arrives. Mum just took DS to nursery so it is SILENT in our house (except for the frantic tapping of keys on the laptop).

Hoping Beany is ok and can hold out til Weds...

And indeed, leesmum, where are you? Are you giving birth???????????

Not much sleep last night, babies completely out of synch so only small patches in between each feeding session. Still with DS out today I can catch up a bit, phewee.

Gill, am intending to get into town in between feeds and go to post office and do a spot of shopping so hopefully get pjs posted today .

Will check in later to see any progress of MORE BABIES.

MERLYPUSS · 21/01/2008 09:38

Hi everyone,

Just had another sleepless night - probably only about four hours managed in total and woke DH up in the middle of it all for a shag - what the hell was all that about? Have not felt like it at all for weeks.

Phoned into work today to say I just couldn't face the idea of starting training someone else up for today so they will have to manage somehow. If I sleep better tonight maybe I can take it on then.

Think I've got a bit wound up about this induction business - must distract myself soon and not focus too hard on the labour and I must I must go and get that damn birthing ball from Argos and start working on my pre delivery posture preparations!! Think it's all a bit psychological as DS was born at 38 weeks and I'm now 37 + 3 so maybe subconciously I'm willing it to all happen earlier.

Just discovered that the cats must have slept in the pram without me knowing, there were tell tale signs of feline hair on my lovely crisp white cotton insert so I'll be shoving that in the wash pronto at 90 degrees. Little buggers.

DS also had school interview this morning having already sat 3 entrance exams. Thank god after this it's all over and just a matter of waiting to find out how he's done from the various schools. They'll only keep us waiting till the first week in February but the suspense is killing all the other mums at our school!!

Have a lovely day everyone and Egg enjoy your trip out.

muth2bagain= iknow what you mean about wishing for an early arrival, DS was born at 37=2 i am now 38+1 and totally fed up- really want to be holding DD now not thinking each twinge could be it!!!!

feeling really fed up- and totally knackered thismorning!!!! but that could be due to BP being up and docs being uptight bout everything-!!!

anyway enough of me feeling sorry for myself!!!!

DS is 3 tommorrow, he has a teletubby bday cake, and a pedal jcb digger as his main gift so at least tommorrow will be a good day!!!!!!

All being well my BP will be ok when MW comes to check it today otherwise they want to admitt me again- oh no- will not miss Harrys 3rd birthday!!!!!!

hope everyone is ok,

Egg and mutha2b, sorry about the bad night. It is getting really uncomfortable right now. Not much longer to go!

Sarahmike and harry, hope the bp stabilizes and you won't be admitted.

I'm feeling pathetically lazy and incompetent. Poor DS is an energetic 4 year old, and I haven't even had the energy to take him to the park around the corner, so he had a quiet weekend.

Looking forward to Wednesday, when they make the final decision whether or not I get to be induced on the 4th. All the registrars think that it will happen, but it is up to the Professor. The only thing I'm worried about in terms of the induction is not being able to go home the same day (assuming I do deliver the same day) due to the epidural. Was going to forego the epidural, but the stories here have made me chicken out. Ah well, it will be interesting for me to have an epidural after placing god-knows-howmany of them on labouring women myself!
