Usually once you have seen the doc and told them you're pregnant they refer you for first scan and midwife either gets in touch or you need to make first app. mine was around 10 wks. Felt totally in the dark through all of first pregnancy - every area seems to do something different, but check with GPs as to whether it's up to you to make midwife appt.

Re pains, sund like slight ligament growing pains, if just niggles don't worry too much, but if you are then speak to midwife (GP will give you a tel no. if you don't have it) and they should either see you or reassure you - that's what they're there for!

Hope you're feeling better and more informed (?!) soon x

paulaplumpbottom · 08/01/2008 16:12

Its just growing pains which are completely normal

MissChika · 08/01/2008 16:24

Hi everyone and Happy New Year!

I'm new to MN and pg with my first baby - due 1st (or could be 6th) July.

Had my first appointment with the MW a couple of weeks ago and did urine test - but need to go back as have "Heavy Material Growth" - whatever that is!? Has anyone else had this??

Looking forward to getting to know everyone over the next few months.

MissChika

paulaplumpbottom · 08/01/2008 16:32

Welcome Misschika

MissChika · 08/01/2008 17:39

Thanks paulaplumpbottom!

pigleychez · 08/01/2008 18:50

Hello everyone,

Welcome aboard too nannyjo and MissChika

Hope everyone is well, Glad to hear im not the only one getting terrible pains in my lower abdomen every time I cough or sneeze. This seems to have passed now and wasnt around long enough for me to worry about it too much. I put it down to things stretching etc

Today i feel huge! Tummy feels hard and I generally feel unfortable. Whilst laying in bed this morning i could feel the top of my uterus. Felt really strange to feel but comforting knowing that baby is growing well.

Pre-pregnancy i get bad backaches and the past few nights it seems to here with avengance. Just dreading to think what its going to be like when im 8/9 mths!

FrannyandZooey · 08/01/2008 18:55

hello chaps

it's my nhs scan tomorrow

I have just had a big meal and my stomach is just EXTRAORDINARY

re: pains, I am having to bend over with the pain sometimes when I cough etc. It's a very sharp pain very low down. Takes you by surprise

TJuice · 08/01/2008 19:34

its nice to know that other people are getting the same thing with that abdominal pain (although i am not wishing it on you or anything!) i thought it was because i haven't been to the gym or yoga for yonks and my stomach muscles are just crap.

good luck with your scan frannyandzooey and welcome MissChika

Chocolatedays · 08/01/2008 19:38

Hi all - so pleased many of you are also suffering with the same lower abs pain - I had my dh searching the internet for positive stories (and avoiding the scary ones) to reassure me it is all OK!

HPG · 08/01/2008 23:47

Hi everyone, thanks for all the messages about the abdominal pain - i thought it was just me!!

AS fro being kept in the dark - am i supposed to call my GP to be referred to the midwife or will i see one at my first scan - i don't know what's going on!!!!

I have been trying to get to sleep for the last hour, but i feel really uncomfortable and have been suffering from insomnia for the last week (well actually since the chritmas break finished and i had to go back to work!!) Is there anything anyone can recommend to help me sleep?

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 09/01/2008 09:00

Hi all - I haven't had abdo pain as such but just an incredible pressure the whole way through so far and SO hungry - for crap specificially.

My scan is tomorrow at 3:30pm - my acupuncturist is convinced it's twins......we shall find out!! I only hope it is so that I don't need to go through this pregnancy lark again! I don't mind either way though. DH would have kittens.

isaidno · 09/01/2008 09:30

you are a brave woman wishing for twins!

Hope everyone is good today; nothing to report here, but I seem to get really thirsty overnight - dry mouth making me get up for a drink. Can't remember if this happened in previous pgs. No chance of getting thirsty in the day - I usually have a cup of redbush tea surgically attached to my hand!

Tummy going a bit hard especially below the belly button where I can def feel the uterus. I think I may have to go fully into mat clothes soon, just because my others are so uncomfy! I figure it's going to happen anyway - why put off the inevitable? It does somehow make you look rounder though!

FoghornLeghorn · 09/01/2008 10:02

Morning Ladies - I am on the August Antenatal thread, due 1st Aug so a very very slight chance I could be joining you guys due in July (although DD's were both late so not holding out much hope) so have been keeping up with your threads too.

Congrats to Twinkle - how amazing - must've been a shock ! Scan pics looks wonderful

Congrats to everyone who has had their scans - it makes everything seem so much more real doesn't it ?!?
Good Luck for today Franny

sweetkitty · 09/01/2008 10:09

Morning all just popping in so say hello not much to report.

Foghorn - I was on the August 04 thread and ended up on the July post natal one you never know!

Welcome to misschika and nannyjo

best of luck for anyone having a scan today or this week x

paulaplumpbottom · 09/01/2008 11:26

I spent the morning vomiting I have felt so great the past couple of weeks. I thought I was past this

TJuice · 09/01/2008 11:43

hpg - INSOMNIA

i slept better last night, after deciding not to drink anything after 6pm, bar a half mug of warm milk at bedtime. i did get up once but then I used a tiny little torch to get to the bathroom and came back and fell asleep immediately. (the torch was my dps idea - so sweet)

Apparently, putting the light on can make you think its time to get up.

Also, i got strict on myself with the "sleep hygiene" thing - and the bedroom is now only for sleeping (and sex, in theory) because i was doing lots of reading, emailing from bed and watching dvds.

I open the windows a bit, dim the lights and light a nice smelly candle before i even go in there.

But this sleeping thing is really hard because my mind is whizzing so much . . . so i guess that yoga and meditation is probably key.

I am also feeling boakey today, paula which surprised me because i have got my appetite back and have been eating well. ??? hormones are also wreaking havoc with my skin - its looks quite young and plump but i have a crop circle of zits on my chin.

MissChika · 09/01/2008 12:17

Haven't had any abdo pains as yet (apart from wind!) but lots of backache. Still feeling fat rather than pg though!

Good luck with the scan tomorrow PTIYPSI.

PS thanks for all the welcome messages!

Jodiew79 · 09/01/2008 13:18

Hi guys, Wow so many new comers since I last logged on on Monday! Welcome everyone..

Also either good luck with scans or congrats to those who have just had them, there is so much going on I can't remember names!

Thanks everyone for reassurance for the lower ab pains, sneezing is a nightmare, also standing up too quickly seems to hurt too, I had started to worry, but now mind is at ease!! I love MN for things like this!

As for double Buggys, now I'm starting to fret, my initial idea was not to bother and put baby in sling and have DS in buggy, if popping to shops, (he'll be 22 months when new one comes) and when he's a bit older put him on a buggy board... should I be thinking differently? Might have to try it and see! I do LOVE the Phil and Teds buggies though, there is no way I could get a side by side one as I struggle getting in places with my single buggy! It would have to be a front and back one...

EEC · 09/01/2008 13:57

Glad last night was better TJuice. I also had first decent night sleep in weeks. I put it down to walk in afternoon. I will try again today... Don't feel any better today, but it must have done me good.

Hope all of you with abdominal pains are feeling better today. I've been lucky in that department - but have got bachache instead. I suppose no-one gets away with nothing (or else, if they do, they daren't say so here!)

libralady · 09/01/2008 14:02

What a relief that there are others with the twinges. I've been having them for a while especially when coughing, sneezing, getting up from the sofa etc. Sometimes I just have to hold onto my lower stomach just to give it support.
Yesterday, my stomach just felt soooo heavy. The only posisition I was comfortable in was lying down as felt so much pressure down there. Has anyone else had this?
And just now, I'm sure I felt the first flutterings. Am now 15+1 and know I didn't feel it until later last time. I think I might feel it is real now iyswim.

libralady · 09/01/2008 14:04

EEC I also had a good night's sleep for one. Was in bed by 9.40 and woke at 8.15 this morning. Did have to get up for a pee around 4am but went straight back to sleep miracles of miracles. Feel a hell of a lot better today.

isaidno · 09/01/2008 14:16

Jodie - Ds1 was 19 mths when Ds2 was born, and I had him on a seat 2 go buggy board from about 2 and 3 mths.

Before that I had a pram with a toddler seat on top (bought 2 nd hand from ebay) and a very cheap double buggy. I tried the pushchair and sling thing but it was awkward - I got backache from leaning to push with baby weight strapped to front.

You will prob need some kind of double, but my advice is to waste as little money as possible! You won't need it for very long. I loved the buggy board.

libralady · 09/01/2008 14:17

Just worked it out I was 21+2 last time I first felt the flutterings.

Jodiew79 · 09/01/2008 14:23

Isaidno - thanks for the advice.. Will look at the babyshow when it comes to birmingham in May, see if there are any special deals......
