Hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
fluffymummy · 18/01/2008 17:38

Hi everyone!

Sorry not been on since Wednesday morning - not because anything particularly exciting has been happening, but just been quite busy.

Went to hospital yesterday for my 39 week check - saw a lovely registrar who decided that another growth scan would be a good idea, so toddled off to have that done. Baby is still large, but no longer 100th centile - down to about 90th. So toddled back to see the reg, discussed induction dates and have compromised on 31st Jan (ie just over 41 weeks). As much as I desperately do not want to be induced again, I equally agree with them that there's no point in leaving a large baby to go to 42 weeks, especially since that probably contributed to DS's birth being quite such a bloody nightmare....

Whilst I was there he also did a couple of internal checks (yuk), as I had a bit of water leakage on Tuesday night - not a lot, but enough to be aware of it. Good news is that it has stopped so no need for antibiotics. Oh, and he did a sweep at the same time...yuk again, but apparently my cervix is nice and short, and forward, and pretty much effaced and ready to go....in other words, a classic 2nd pregnancy cervix and he reckoned I stand a good chance of going into labour all on my own. So fingers still crossed...

And I also finally got to see the wards - Nicky, you are not alone in being utterly slack about this! (by the way, which hospital are you going to?) Except mine wasn't a ward tour...I just wandered up and sweet-talked my way onto both the natural birth and normal labour wards. Reassuringly, even tho the rooms were remarkably grim (eek, and no ensuite toilets anywhere!), the midwives were totally lovely despite being mad busy with every room in use - and the women using them were obviously being looked after well as they were happy to let me come in and take a quick peek whilst they were at it!!

So, on the one hand I'm reassured that the care will be good, on the other I'm definitely keen to go into labour at home and be able to use my own toilet/bathroom etc until I actually hit the point of needing midwife care!!

Anyway, no action here yet, so I'm heading off now to buy a curry (and will try to drop in on Barristermum for 5 mins on the way). DS is staying with my parents tonight, until tomorrow afternoon, so I might even attempt a bit of 'nudge nudge wink wink' as well, although that rather depends on DH recovering from the rather vile bug he's had for over a week.... Hope you all have lovely weekends, get some sleep and that lots of babies put in an appearance

Love to all, hugs all round xxx

MrsMcJnr · 18/01/2008 18:28

Hey ladies I?m still here, how come??!! ah well, maybe tomorrow ? there does seem to be some signs of ?action? (back to knicker checking again!) but no contractions or anything. I have one day left to have a nice natured Capricorn like me rather than a stubborn Aquarian like my DH!!

Nicky6 ? glad to hear there has been some relaxation! how did your tour go? That is sweet about your MW and the shirt, I?m planning to wear a tankini top and some cheap tesco knickers (yes I know I?ll have to take them off eventually but not until I?m ready ) Salsa babies sounds fab! DH is keen on the idea of Disco Dads!

Madmouse ? I hope you are not too cross that I forgot your due date. My list that I have in my diary dates back to early May and you weren?t with us then sorry!! Hope last night (and tonight) are better for sleep! Glad all went well at the MW and glad to hear that things are looking good!

Hey BeckyAu was wondering how you were. Sorry that you are in the same boat as a lot of us but hey, you?re being given lots of chances before an induction and even then, the pessary might be enough to get things going alone which is what happened to a friend last week and the birth was really straight forward. Hoping for good things for you this weekend. We are on the ?natural prostaglandin? too and the raspberry leaf tea, pineapple and long walks ? just can?t face the curry though!! By the way, I read that the pineapple must be fresh as the enzyme you need goes from canning or juicing (luckily they are ½ price at Tesco at the mo!)

Angechica ? I?m with you on that advert ? so sad there is a thread running in Pregnancy at the mo on the oral method, it does seem to be more than a myth but unproven of course. Apparently the hormones are better digested through the gut than the cervix. I also read about it on Baby Centre! I think I?d prefer a curry?.or some castor oil!!

Hello MrsBiscuit nice to see you too, I was wondering about you as well. I didn?t know 2/2 was Groundhog Day LOL at the slogan on the birth t-shirt ? I like it. DH has one which says ?Jack Bauer wouldn?t stand for this crap? might wear that! not met the HV but the thought of seeing quite so much of my MW after the birth is a little daunting!

Ooohh Letsgo exciting!! Hope it all goes very, very well for you hon. You are another I was thinking of

Hang in there Mum2sons

Katyt1 ? that?s a good point, they don?t give you the synthetic stuff orally hope the curry worked for you and that things continue to happen I?m with you, don?t want any visitors at the mo, especially not the in-laws! I read about Lucky too ? shame it went that way but so pleased for her that her little one is here

Congratulations Lucky!!!

Puppydogears ? PMSL at your post! I so know how you feel. It just shows you that all the cleaning etc isn?t worth it! As DH pointed out, the house won?t look like it does now when I come home from hospital and he has been here alone for a few days I had a friend on the ?phone today who was pretty furious I was still pregnant ? what on earth am I meant to say to that?! LOL LOL at something blocking the exit and OMG let MIL have a look, is she MAD?! I?ve done the sides of the hedge too but god knows, it is very untidy

Lolo ? I heard curry works if it is so hot that it puts your bowel in a spasm as that?ll start contractions (and something else and I really hope that doesn?t happen during birth!!) Parents have decided not to come over, pretty disappointed

Bluebell ? you are another I was wondering about! sorry to hear you are worried. It does sound a bit frantic that she has booked you in like that. You don?t have to accept it you know. If I were you, I?d make another appointment for sometime soon and go and do the checks again, there was not that much in the BP and if there was no protein, you should be fine, it?ll give you peace of mind anyway.

Barristermum ? thanks for popping back to see us I have heard that they are easier to care for before born hope all is going well with you.

Hello Betterhalf

Hey Fluffy lots of us ladies still here!! Sounds like the outcome of your appointment was good, let?s hope you pop before 31/1!! Your hospital sounds friendly too ? a bit like mine though, not all the mod coms and loos in short supply! Glad you are feeling better.

Thinking of Lilyloo

katyt1 · 18/01/2008 18:42

becky - glad madmouse mentioned all those tips, i had just assumed you had been told them, naughty mw!

madmouse - sounds like your appt went really well

Hi bluebell sounds liek your bp was affected by other things than just being pg.

hey fluffy good trip to hosp, even if it's not 100% fabulous, sounds friendly enough.
hope you go for a hot enough curry, i didn't!

need to try for dh hormones again i think tho i think i'm so full of yukky cold that i don't feel like it at all
in fact not sure i want baby out just yet as i feel so crap.
been in a really grumpy mood the last 2 days too, really fed up, depressed, cross, snappy at dh, fed up with ds. keep thinking i'm having twinges, then nothing comes of them, so i get more fed up and crosser.

sorry hope i'm not spreading misery, just need to get it off my chest.

angechica - maybe i'm stir crazy like you. things have been ready here for a while too. baby crib in our room for ages now. even thinking of taking it out as it's annoying me now.

hi to everyone else, esp anyone ready and waiting!

PinkElephant · 18/01/2008 18:43

Hi all,

I haven't posted on here for yonks and I'm soo glad to find other expectant mums to moan to

Beckyau and Angechica - I am in exactly the same boat as you and many others most probably. I am now 40wks and 6 days and am totally fed up now. It feels like its just never going to happen. I went for a sweep yesterday but the midwife couldn't reach my cervix as is was so high up behind the baby's head. Therefore she's guessed that I'm not ready as my cervix has not shortened. I'm booked in for another go at the hospital on Sunday. If all else fails I'm booked in for induction on wednesday which I'm absolutely dreading!!! I'm just so desperate for it to happen as naturally as possible. I have tried everything in the books such as raspeberry leaf tea, hot curries and even sex with no avail!!! And to top it all I have started with a nice stomach bug and rip roaring diarrohea.....which still hasn't triggered off contractions!!!!! . Just hope I don't go into labour with a botty the way mine is right now

nicky6 · 18/01/2008 20:43

bluebell

dont worry exactly the same here - my bbp normaly really low sometimes over 60-80 but this week 38+2 blood pressure was up to over 90 somehting - my first week off work. Midwife laughed and said i should clearly go back to my very stressful job as my bp seemes to like it.

Am booked in fro a week late (tuesday) at 39+2 just to make sure verything alright and blood pressure not doing anything naughty - but no real stress or worry - so i dont think there is any need for you to worry either just keep an eye on it.

Last nigth went round labour ward - yikes the after care i didnt like very much at all - no rooms just little pig pens and a tour of 40 people going round whilst people had little curtains round themselves and baby and visitors - but heh hoh good incentive to get out quick.

LuckySalem · 18/01/2008 20:45

Hi Ladies,

I know DP posted the birth story so I won't bore you with that. (I also noticed how sweet he was, I'm never gonna get away with wingeing about him again now lol )

Just to say I'm home and everything is going fine although I've got some nice swollen feet now!!

I will just say that although it was a horrid thing that happened I really don't care as she is SO worth it!!

Will speak to you all properly at some point over the next few days but I don't know when as she takes all my attention (When DP actually lets me have a go ) As I'm writing this he's dancing with her round the room to Stevie Wonder songs!

I've had a quick glance and just want to say all those still waiting I know it's horrid but they'll be here eventually.

AngeChica · 18/01/2008 20:56

Poor you PinkElephant there's nothing worse. pretty much exactly what my MW said to me!

Just been out for a yummy curry, I went for the jal frezi not a vindaloo though. DH now wants me to run (!) up and down the stairs 20 times as it worked for a colleague of his (a fitness fanatic PE teacher though who was back in size 10 about 2 weeks post birth .

MrsMc, step away from the castor oil . I did read about someone trying it on another thread and the effects sound grim.

I also thought of the star signs moving on today.

Katy we can all be overdue grumps together here... Hey well, in a few days we'll be on the PN board talking about breastfeeding instead. Here's hoping things will be kicking off for some of us this w/e.

AngeChica · 18/01/2008 20:57

X post - hello Lucky and congratulations. Birth story sounds tough but if you share when youa re up to it, it can be therapeutic. Have you chosen a name yet? x

LuckySalem · 18/01/2008 21:00

No name yet - We have a short list.... bad mummy [lol]

ayrshirelolo · 18/01/2008 21:26

Hiya all!!
Lucky, congratulations!!!! What are you calling the wee cherub? and you're right, your dp was really lovely !! tell us it all in your own words what happened when you're upto it, but inthe meantime i've got an image of you dancing around singing "isn't she lovely" and "you are the apple of my eye"... very cute!!!
Hello Bluebell, Pink Elephant.. come moan with us!!! All welcome!! Hope the digestive stuff improves, PinkE! If you aren't having any luck try grating an apple, covering it in sugar and cinnamon, leaving it on the plate to oxodise (go brown!!) and then eating it... sounds revolting but actually works faster than immodium and is pregnancy friendly! (honestly!)
Angechic the stairs thing is about going up and down sideways (was that you that mentioned it Katy?) it's apparantly about opening up the pelvis properly which is the position you're in if you're doing it right!! let us know how it goes!!
Nicky and Fluffy, sorry your hospitals are less than lovely, but as you know you're not there for very long and i reckon i'd rather have great midwives etc than a new hospital building and crap staff! (however easy for me to say, i've probably got best of both worlds, great new shiny hospital and fab midwives... )
Agree castor oil a BAD idea... apparantly it can make lo pass meconium into the waters and leave baby in distress, so don't do it girls!!!!
Mrs McJ so sorry they're not coming over, i'm just gobsmacked you are still here as i was so sure you would hatch before Christmas!! Lovely to still have your company though! I imagine i won't get a chance to meet with you in Edinburgh until we've both had our babies, sorry!! But will be exciting to meet up once we're both a bit organised ! (ha! me, organised? )
Anyway, glad everyone's appointments seems to be ok, and BP can go up and down like a yoyo in late pregnancy, last time mine went mental in labout for a bit, a very young midwife said "oh sometimes that happens if you're in a wee bit of pain" - no sh*t, Sherlock!!
Sleep well all, thinking about Lilyloo wonder who'll be next? My mum's told me not to go before Monday, as it doesn't suit her .... think she was joking, but you can never be sure!! night all, lolo xx

ayrshirelolo · 18/01/2008 21:28

Oooo... sorry, Lucky!! Just took me half an hour to type all that!!! Take your time with the name thing, it's got to suit her!!! lolox

mum2sam · 18/01/2008 21:38

hiya im now aproud mummy to alex joseph born today at 5.30am following an induction of membranes as a result of high bp. Birth was less then 3hrs and with the aid of gas and air plus alot of shouting at dh lol. He is gorgeous and weighs 7lbs13 so glad its over x

betterhalf · 18/01/2008 21:41

Well Done you! Hope I'm lucky and it goes as swiftly! Enjoy your lovely new little baby boy.

ayrshirelolo · 18/01/2008 21:56

Oh Congratulations mum2sam!!!! Lovely name too, and am very of the three hours bit!! lol at the shouting at dh, is that not the point of fathers in childbirth?!? Photos as soon as you can please!!!! enjoy your wonderful brand new son... welcome to the world Alex!

LuckySalem · 18/01/2008 22:50

Finally named her.

Please welcome Aaliyah Robyn Miller

Aaliyah means - Sublime
Robin means - Bright Fame

Susiemj · 18/01/2008 22:50

well done mum2sam! congratulations.

OP posts:
MrsBiscuit · 19/01/2008 10:14

Well done Lucky , it's so good to know that whatever you go through it's worth it in the end!
And congrats to Mum2Sam
You've both chosen lovely names

We're off for a hospital tour this afternoon - I went a couple of months back but DH wanted to have a look too. Hopefully we'll get to see the birthing pools (both in use last time I went).

Finally had my nursing chair delivered yesteday - only 5 weeks later than promised but at least it's here now. It's a bit ugly but very comfy.

Hope your jalfrezi works Angechica. My idea of a curry isn't going to get me going I don't think - I'm such a woose and never go for anything stronger than a tikka masala.

LOL Pink Elephant about your fears in the lower department during labour - same here!

Hey MrsMc - there's nothing wrong with us Aquarians! I think you'll also find that as well as being very, very slightly obstinate we're also meant to be exceedingly loyal, independent and free thinking - or that's what I've read anyway .

beller · 19/01/2008 10:31

Hi everyone..

Dont have time for a proper catch up, but look forward to seeing you all soon ont he post natal thread!!
I havnt been on there mucvh either, George is taking up soooo much time, but we are getting there.
He is now 9 lb!! little porker...from 7 lb 2 in 3 weeks....breast feeding going well....sleepless nights going deliriously..as expected, but i think we are getting there.
Just wanted to wave at everyone and send out labour vibes xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

xx

katyt1 · 19/01/2008 11:10

congratulations to mum2sam (namechange required now?) and again to lucky

oohh, v excited as had tiniest bit of what i think was show this morning, am now in a knicker-checking frenzy but nothing more since.

beller - glad to hear george is thriving

had some better sleep last night so not feeling so grumpy today, at least not yet!
moved crib out of our room into nursery and told myself instead of 'will it be tonight', 'it probably won't be tonight' before i went to bed and that seemed to help shift my doom and gloom!

been out in the garden with ds to feed the birds, dh now taken him round the corner for papers and french bread for lunch. i love weekends

re ladygarden - well it was feel and scissors and prob not a v good job - tried to look in mirror after and it was better that's all i'll say!

thinking cheerleaders with pompoms and majorettes to shout up there and cheer might help with the exit blockage.....
what would the cheer be:
give us a B..A..B..Y..BABY!

MrsBiscuit · 19/01/2008 11:25

Hi Beller. Hope nights get a bit better but it sounds like everything else is going well

Keep us posted Katy!

madmouse · 19/01/2008 12:13

morning afternoon all

Had a good night for a change after a really bad one. Was asleep at 11 and at 7am could not get comfy anymore because of my hip so took a paracetamol and went back to bed anyway and managed to stay there until 10.30.

Hiya Lucky, glad to have you back, lovely names, pictures soon?

Mum2sam congrats, are you now mum2samandalex? I think you ought to change your name

Hi Pinkelephant, haven't we met on another thread? Aren't you the other Mumsnetter whose baby makes clicking sounds??

Nicky, LOL at your mw suggestion to go back to work. Guess it is all a major adjustment, and you have been very busy in your first week on mat leave. My bp corresponds to how worried I am that there will be protein in my wee sample (that happened once, 13 weeks ago...), hence mine is actually coming down now, cause even if I get pre eclampsia now they can get the baby out and that will be it.

How do all your babies respond to sound? Mine always responds to daddy's voice, and when DH preached in church the other night (through a microphone) lo got very excited and did not stop bouncing until he finished . DH loved it!

MrsMcJnr · 19/01/2008 13:43

Hey ladies woke up this morning without any labour like signs AGAIN got really impatient last night as a colleague who was due the day before me texted to say she?d had a lovely baby girl and that plus the 10 plus calls asking me where our baby was made me want to know the same thing!!!

Hope you start to feel much better Katyt ? I felt like that last week with the cold, it was crap I guess some high kicks with the cheerleading might bring on the babies?!

Welcome back Pinkelephant nice to see you hon. Poor you with that tummy but I bet it does start things off!! I think what the curry and the castor oil have in common are that they put your bowel in a spasm and bring on contractions and you?d think a tummy bug would do the same. I really hope that it clears up for you but does bring on the baby! Sending positive vibes for you!!

Nicky6 ? I felt the same about the post natal ward, I just hope I am near a window or will get really claustrophobic in those ?pig pens? ? that?s a fab way of describing them!!

Lucky ? posted for you on a couple of other threads but congratulations again and I thought your DP?s admiration was incredibly touching enjoy your babymoon!!!

Angechica don?t think I could muster up the enthusiasm to run up and down the stairs either!!

Lolo ? looking forward to meeting up when we?ve got our little ones settled in, definitely I don?t feel like going anywhere with anyone at the moment it has to be said ? what the hell do you wear when you are this size???! We were meant to be out for dinner tonight to celebrate FIL?s B?day tomorrow but he has a cold so thankfully it is off. Guess we should be looking for an enthusiastic Ceilidh to get us going!!

Ooohhhh Mum2sam congratulations hon!!! well done!!

MrsBiscuit my favourite person in the world is an Aquarian ? DH! so you?re preaching to the converted really we Capricorns are meant to be loyal and steadfast too but I?m not sure about free thinking ? that sounds like a good quality! hope the tour goes well and you get to see the pools.

Beller ? sounds like George is thriving, I hope you are feeling much better too x

Madmouse ? glad you had a good night?s sleep my baby loves to hear Daddy laugh (so do I ? it was one of the first things that attracted me to my DH) it also likes the sound of typing, hair dryers and the hoover!!

Labour vibes to all!.................

lilyloo · 19/01/2008 17:51

Hi ladies just wanted to pop on quickly and let you all know Martha Neve arrived last night at 6.55 pm. She is only 6lb1oz but is utterly gorgeous.
