Hello!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
BeckyAu · 17/01/2008 16:53

Hey there ladies... Well I am joining the "Oh pleeeeease be born soon" club. I was due on Sunday and it was a bizarre anticlimax for the day to come and go with no babe. No signs at all - no BH, no pains or tightenings, no show - NOTHING! AAARGH! I went to the midwife this morning who says babe is towards my back so labour will be longer (bother!!) and only 4/5 engaged (though I am at least aware that doen't mean much in itself). We can go for a sweep on Sunday, then another tues, then third thurs and she's booked the induction for 25th. I had a little cry about it all.... All the other babies I'm aware of locally have arrived early and on time, and a friend had a "perfect" water birth with no stitches on time 2 days ago and I just feel a bit weird. Midwife said lots of sex and nipple stimulation so I've told DH that's what our next plan of action is! Mind you, LO seems very content where he is thanks very much...

Anyway... fingers crossed something happens soon. For all of us who want to get started! xxx

AngeChica · 17/01/2008 17:17

It sounds like we are in a very similar boat Becky - but I feel fairly calm about it and have been a lot less tearful lately. (Now one of the only things that sets me off is the Pedigree dog food ad with the homeless doggies...). But I did have an "I want my baby NOW" bout this afternoon. It is as if they are on one side of a wall and we are on the other!

DH has a man cold and I don't want him near me ATM though so might need to wait a couple of days before I can hijack his sperm...

My friend just told me at her ante natal class this week they advised the "oral" method . But I thought this was a total old wives tale! Probably invented by men. So I'm shocked they told her that in a class!

MrsBiscuit · 17/01/2008 17:52

Hello, still here, but not due till next Friday and I'm not expecting an early appearance - dh is convinced it will come on 2nd February as it's Groundhog Day which fits in nicely with my being a bit of a piglet at the moment (fat, grunty and bad tempered) .

He's also given me one of his old t-shirts for labour, even though it says 'what goes on tour, stays on tour' which I'm not sure is entirely appropriate!

Congrats to all those who've had their LOs. I've been avidly reading your birth stories so keep them coming....

My Health Visitor came round today to introduce herself which was quite nice, and reassuring that I won't feel completely abandoned after the birth. Anyone else met theirs?

BeckyAu · 17/01/2008 18:03

Hey Angechica - now I was told that we need "Daddy Hormones" as there's something in sperm that softens the cervix so can make things get started. So the oral method? Yep I reckon that was made up! I wonder if either works? I'm going to see if the old fashioned method of daddy hormones, a curry (i know that's an old wives tale but DH's eyes lit up at the prospect), and pineapple juice (at curry house) works for me. Ideally i'll go into labour straight away and will have babe in arms this time tomorrow

I've not met my health visitor but I think it's really nice yours came to see you MrsBiscuit. Mine will no doubt meet me when I'm bleary eyed, covered in some vomit or milk or dribble and in my dressing gown!

Letsgo · 17/01/2008 19:01

Hi. Sorry but haven't got time to read all messages but just wanted to keep you informed. My waters broke at 4am this morning, was monitored in hospital for a while to check all was ok and then was sent home. I've had some contractions but they're irregular. I have to go back in at 9pm tonight and stay - probably induced if not natural labour.

Will let you know.

Hope all is ok with others and I will catch up with the stories when I can

Good Luck to all x

katyt1 · 17/01/2008 19:18

letsgo - good luck

becky - we are going for curry tonight as well, takeaway tho. they will know what you are up to, heavily pg woman eating curry and drinking pineapple juice!!

in fact i may be having some activity anyway, feelings that are more painful than BH but not really painful so may just be warming up but am trying to be hopeful

starving too tho so may as well have some good food!

oh and surely orally the stomach acids would kill it anyway?? and when you are induced they always put stuff down there not make you swallow it right? must be an old 'husbands' tale!!

PuppyDogEyes · 17/01/2008 20:55

Its so frustrating, i had everything cleaned and organised in prep for due date (14th) all DH work and casual clothes washed ironed.
pots and pans clean put away.
shopping in.
microwave cleaned ready for steriliser should i need.
house clean.
bed sheets cleaned ironed. spare sheets and pillow cases for visitors.

Have to start all over again. getting visitors tonight, even though no baby yet!
work and casuals to be washed (its rained so much and so hard he's gone through so many clothes!)

shopping needs to be done.

etc etc.

Becky's right, due date, was anti climax.

i've answered so many well wishers texts, emails and calls nearly every day. it started off fun but don't want to speak to anyone anymore!!
(they act as if, i should have had it on the 14th!! Hello??!! its not upto me!!!).

my friend (!?!) even suggested i get DH or even MIL to have a look up there!
WHAT FOR????? in case there's a box blocking the exit???
I kindly informed her it's not a tunnel..well not yet anyway!

More GRRRR!!!!

katyt1 · 17/01/2008 21:09

Puppy Dog - at your friend!!! what does she think they will see????? eek!
maybe i shd tell dh to have a look, maybe i've left something blocking the exit and forgotten about it !!!!

yep, i'm like you, most things are ready here, not allowing any visitors beforehand as going for a home birth and would have to kick out any potential audience at short notice! (tho my MIL always says ooh wouldn't it be great if it happened whilst we are here? uh NO!!!)

have warned dh that something may be happening but i'm not convinced. only told him in case it happens tomorrow and mw asks when did they start and i say yesterday afternoon, and he looks at me like WHAT?!

had curry, but not v hot so doubt that will help anything, not sure if it really helps anyway?

right, off for biscuits!

ayrshirelolo · 17/01/2008 22:35

Hello all! Letsgo good luck!! Hope it's all happening for you as quickly and painlessly as possible! Lillyloo are you going in tomorrow or already there? I've lost track i'm afraid!! hope it's all ok for you anyway!
Nothing exciting to report here, fil and mil here for a while today, fil says he dreamt i had baby on Sunday, but doesn't know what flavour it is, so told him to go back to sleep and get me some more info!!
Apart from that some wee grumbles, but nothing exciting, and probably just tendons and muscles and things because i am now absolutely colossal!!
As far as i know curry is supposed to help by clearing out the bowel which makes room for head to drop and put pressure on cervix, so kind of old wives tale / kind of scientific!! And the "hubby hormones" thing is, i think, a rumbling debate with regards to "oral" or he hem... more traditional(?!) dosing methods! But can you imagine the heartburn?!
Puppydogeyes lol at your friend!!! I like my mil but somethings are just a bit too.... personal???!! as you say, what for? To wave and shout encouragement???
Mrs McJ - hi, glad the consultant is talking sense!! Would be lovely if you can persuade your mum and dad to make a wee visit to a Scottish winter, i'm sure they would love to meet your baby and as you say there are good reasons for getting a second opinion about your dad - and good for you to give him a few cuddles!! Hope it works out, send them a link to Easyjet as a wee hint!!
Madmouse sounds like your dh needs to take his turn on the couch!! Hope you can get comfy tonight (although your story sounds horribly familiar....!)
Becky hope your curry was fab, even if it didn't have desired effect hope the food was nice!
MrsBiscuit hello! I think my H/v is lovely (dd is 19 months) and basically has ignored me since the first few weeks!! - just the way i like it! Very approachable though, and funny and had some good advice about weaning etc. Nice that she came to say hi before the event, sounds like you've got a good one!
Angechica hope you don't get manflu!!! You don't need that, mate! hope it all happens for you soon, though!
Hi to everyone else, sending big hugs to all of us left on this thread... there are less of us every day!!!! hope everyone ok, lolo xx

PuppyDogEyes · 18/01/2008 01:35

oh and trimmed up the lady garden in prep. not easy considering i can't even see my sticky out belly button let alone anything more southern....

oral?! my dh would be scared i'd sink my teeth in, with my current mood.

ohhh(stamp my foot)....I just want to meet my little one.

must have patience.
must have patience.
must have patience. (if thats even how its spelt)

katyt1 · 18/01/2008 06:33

LuckySalem had her baby!
her partner posted on her home birth thread - she is in hosp after a c-s in the end.
They had a little girl, no name decided yet.

awww - i want mine now!!!

yes puppy - shaved legs and tried to 'tidy' generally in the bath the other day, god knows what it all looks like by now!

nothing came of anything last night so still waiting here...
and so uncomfy all night. and ds up at 5.30. dh put him back to bed but i couldn't get back to sleep, dh snoring straight away of course . so came down for breakfast and MN time.

lolo - hi there, lol at your FIL. can he dream about mine too, at least let me know WHEN!

well, of to make tea and milk, can hear the oh so delicate patter of tiny feet upstairs

ayrshirelolo · 18/01/2008 10:39

Morning!! Thanks, Katy, just posted a wee message on LS's other thread, Congratulations Lucky!!! Sorry it didn't go the way you wanted, but delighted for you that your gorgeous daughter has arrived safely at last!!!!
And lol to Katy and Puppy - i haven't been brave enough to do the legs for a while as have a small aversion to going near skin i haven't seen in a while with a razor blade, but i suppose i should "tidy" a little!!!
Crap night's sleep here too... dd had a bad night, Calpol at 4.30am!! Oh well, it's hissing with rain up here today, good excuse for staying comfy with the heating on and eating crap all day!! Will check in later, and puppy, if you do master the patience thing will you let me know how? I'm getting seriously bored with the whole pregnant thing now!! Dsd here later, apparantly she's not well so an ill teenager, grumpy tired toddler, grumpy tired dh and lovely serene glowing me ... what a lovely weekend in prospect!! lolo x

BeckyAu · 18/01/2008 10:44

Puppy and Katy - crumbs how did you manage to do your lady garden? I tried the other day by feeling and a pair of scissors but decided it was all rather too dangerous and I might snip the wrong thing! I can't see past my belly at all!

Curry was yummy but then I decided to go for my normal gentle non spicy really so it serves me right it hasn't worked. Have sent mum out for some pineapple juice and "daddy hormones" haven't worked either! I had an email from SIL saying someone she knew was told to walk sideways up stairs to get things started. Now that's someone just having a laugh I'm sure.....

So. Shall we have our babes this weekend? Why not. Let's aim for that, huh? xxx

madmouse · 18/01/2008 11:23

Hi all

Lucky, your baby at last. Sounds like you were very brave in the light of a really tough labour. Can't wait for names and piccies!!

Becky, did mw not tell you to get on trying to turn your baby away from back to back? Leaning forward, over birthball, back to front on dining chair, never ever slouching etc? Seems a bit silly to tell you to expect a tough labour if there is something you can do. I turned mine from right to left that way. Sorry if you know all this

Just back from my 38 week mw appt, all great, BP down from last time, head 3/5 palpable (so nearly half engaged) and in a great position, mw excited about my cramps and pains. She had a student doctor with her and I gave him permission to feel the baby and he was really sweet. I had to encourage him to press a bit harder if he wanted to feel anything but he did get it right. He pissed of my lo though when he had a second go with the sonicaid and lo definitely does not like that thing. He is too big to escape but boy will he try. Bring on homebirth that is what I say.

Feeling guilty now for saying this, with quite a few of you overdue and waiting would serve me right if I am still here at 42 weeks all alone .

Lilyloo is in hospital for induction I suppose? I hope it is going well.

bluebell82 · 18/01/2008 11:40

Hello all- I haven't been on here for ages and its great to see that some of you have already had your little babs!

I wanted a bit of advise if poss as went to midwife yesterday for routine check- last one I assumed at 38+6.. but blood pressure was 140/90 gone up from two weeks previous 136/82.. she has booked me in next week when I will be 40 weeks.. I am a bit worried but let me tell you full story...

before appointment was starving so had a macdonalds- naughty I know.. felt oblivious driving and got caught by speed camera- didn't really care about this though, but have a stinking cold, the worst I have felt for a long time.. could all these factors have contributed- also did sample and completely missed pot so she only had a drop to test and was worried that it may have not been enough to detect protein, although mw didn't seem bothered..

I have felt really crap with this cold, constant trotts and also sciattica (sp?)- also have gone a bit stare crazy at home- could this have contributed and also am I worrying for nothing?? Sorry to witter on, feel like a bit of an imposter as I haven't posted for ages- due on 24th Jan by the way xxx

madmouse · 18/01/2008 11:47

Hey Bluebell good to see you

Looks like there were loads of reasons for your blood pressure to be up. Your mw does not seem too alarmed, take your cue from that. Just try to have a relaxed week with lots of rest and if you still need the 40 week appt (!!) you may well be back to normal.

By the way you keep on having routine appointments until you pop. I have one booked for 40 weeks and after that it is 41 weeks with a sweep etc.

Sounds like there is no need to worry. Chill!

madmouse · 18/01/2008 11:49

By the way I am 38 +2 so we are close!

bluebell82 · 18/01/2008 11:57

Thanks Madmouse- my mw really old school and I end up not asking enough questions which results in me coming home and worrying.. I think I just need to shift this god damn cold!

Getting excited now but just feeling super uncomfortable, feel terrible I am all moany because me and dh are sooo excited but no one tells you what an assault these last couple of weeks are on your body!

How you bearing up?

Also heard that increased bp with no other symptoms of pe are signs that the baby is coming...??

barristermum · 18/01/2008 12:32

So much sympathy to all of you still waiting! Mind - I have found lo much easier to look after inside rather than out!

AngeChica · 18/01/2008 12:33

Hi Bluebell, IMO BP is temporarily affected by all sorts of things. Last week my MW came round the house to recheck my urine - I was expecting her to phone first but she just turned up so I was a bit flustered. As my BP was 150/95 she sent me to the PAU at the hospital all afternoon and barred me from going on my own, so DH had to come out of school for the afternoon to take me. I had my BP monitored several times and as I had calmed down at the hospital it was 120/70 all afternoon, I also had fetal monitoring for an hour. All in all a total storm in a teacup and the hospital midwife was a bit cross that the community MW hadn't just re-checked my BP after half an hour. I appreciate she was just being cautious but it was all a bit stressful and unneccesary. As long as you are not rushing around trying to do too much I am sure you will be fine.

I am stir crazy as well. Everything's been ready for baby for weeks and we cleaned our house from top to bottom at the weekend as we were getting it valued on Monday. All I do is surf daytime telly, nap, walk the dog and play online Scrabble....

betterhalf · 18/01/2008 15:57

Its very quiet on here today! Does that mean we will have some more baby news soon?

BeckyAu · 18/01/2008 17:32

Madmouse THANK YOU! no mw didn't tell me so i'm taking your advice to try to get this LO to get in the correct position and come out!
