Hello!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
spackcat · 30/12/2007 13:25

Hi everyone, great to see a new thread & thanks for the list lilyloo! Hi makingnosense,(your name sounds like I feel most days!) Hope everyone had a lovely and not too uncomfortable christmas - my new years resolution will be to keep up with this thread more often and not to have a pudding after every meal (that's breakfast, lunch and dinner!)
Congratulations bettymamma!
I have the pleasure of looking after my nephew for the next week, he is good as gold but is the same age as ds (8) and ds is not used to having a pal 24/7, he is getting very competitive and I have started to notice he acts quite spoilt sometimes, it has been quite an eye opener and I think it will be good practice for him for when this lo makes an appearance. The constant strops about losing snakes and ladders and bickering/whinging (mainly from ds!) is driving me crazy! My nephew arrived boxing day btw and is leaving next saturday, oh well, only another week of this!
I am starting to wish we had another child sooner(not that we had much choice,no money or room, unpleasant birth experience etc) as ds has become so set in his own way of doing things; we tried so hard not to spoil him and to think of others although I think now this is something that is learnt through experience rather than taught!
Apart from that we had a lovely christmas not too busy or quiet, just right and dh cooked a fantastic dinner christmas day (roast beef, yummy!). Have felt really, really lucky so far with health etc, don't feel too uncomfortable so far and have been sleeping well, so I hope that continues, just 4 weeks to go now! Anyways, sorry for epic long post and happy new year to you all if I don't post sooner! xx

lilyloo · 30/12/2007 16:02

Congrats Bettymama love the name Lola we often call our dd that even though she is officially Lily! A waterbirth how lovely am very hopeful i will eventually get one mine upstairs all ready and waiting!
No plans for new year here either.
We have some sparklers left from bonfire and dp went to the butchers to get some nice steaks so probably a nice meal cooked by dp and some fireworks with dc's. am sure things are going to happen soon so don't really want to venture too far away!
Hope everyone else has a nice new year and here's to the arrival of more bubba's!
P.S i only copied and pasted list from last thread can't remember who did it but didn't want to take the credit

Tripletsandtwins - fantastic. naturally and without pain relief, I am in total awe! And you cooked them for a very respectable time in the end . So how are you doing? With five you are officially a matriarch now

Feeling very uncomfortable today, little one playing flag pole (ie I feel like I swallowed one). Sticks his bum out of my bump right under my boobs and goes completely rigid putting lots of pressure on below. I am putting it down to trying to engage, but it really makes me groan. Made worse if he decides to shuffle said bottom from left to right and back!

LuckySalem · 30/12/2007 18:28

Forgot to say. MW came round today and although baby is lower it's not engaged she said she expects its going to go over and probably end in induction in hospital.

LuckySalem · 30/12/2007 19:18

Girls do you think I could be getting BH but my belly isn't going really hard cos i'm overweight so can't feel it?
It's just i'm getting these period pains which have the odd wave to them now and then and when I press my belly I can feel hardness which i'm assuming is the baby but where the baby isn't I can't feel the hardness?
I so want things to be starting, I do not want to end up in hospital being induced with all those wires!

gingemebells · 30/12/2007 19:45

Congratulations triplets and twins. You are so clever .
Luckysalem not everyone gets Braxton Hicks and not every babys head engages before birth. Some wait until your in established labour.
Don't worry honey and try to be patient. You just never know whats gonna happen. Dont stress and get your bp raised
spackat good luck with your nephew.

madmouse · 30/12/2007 19:45

Without wanting to be too graphic i think you should be able to feel the hardness under the fat, bit like a watermelon shape. You should also be able to feel the tension when you stretch yourself out. Maybe you are in very early labour? See what happens if you take a walk or bounce on your ball if you have one?
As I have said above period pains are not a symptom of B-H.

Fingers crossed!

Naetha · 30/12/2007 20:30

Hello all, due date today, unfortunately nobody's told my LO that!

Tripletsandtwins - congratulations on your two LOs! Wow - a household of 5 kids - more than I can cope with - you have all my admiration! And seriously well done for the natural birth - must be quite a rare thing these days!

Went for a lovely bracing 3 mile walk and although I feel like if I open my legs wide enough he'll drop out, there ain't no labour in sight, just the usual constant BH, back pain etc.

I think I've very much resigned myself to my fate that he'll be late

My dad is coming up for the night tomorrow, so no doubt if we arrange to go out for a meal and somewhere to go on NYE he'll put a show in!

I meant to ask before btw LuckySalem (on a completely random note!) - did you have any luck sorting out the problem with your cat peeing on the sofa? We used Feliway when we got a new kitten and the other cats started peeing places they shouldn't, scratching etc. We've still got the diffuser and I'm planning on having it plugged in when the baby arrives to hopefully chill them out a bit. We also have a problem with one of our cats who regularly poos next to the litter tray (even if it's clean litter) and we use the feliway spray once a week in the area and it seems to do the trick. The other things we found worked before when the same cat was peeing on our mattress in the spare room (cats - don'tcha just love em!) was to get a second litter tray, and fill it with a different type of litter. We currently have 2 litter trays, one with lightweight cat litter, and the other with wood pellet litter, which he much prefers to pee in. Hope this helps, and apologies to non-cat people!

Right, I'm going to watch UFC in half an hour (watching sweaty men beating eachother up - like wrestling, but more real!), so I'd best do some hoovering first or my Dad will maintain his belief that we life in a pigsty!

sabinar · 30/12/2007 21:27

hey Lucky,

my LO has not engaged yet either (we're at about 38 + 4 here). He's sitting on the 'brim' apparently. Typical guy, can't commit. My MW said that not all babies engage before labour starts and not to worry about it at all and we're planning a homebirth.

I'd say stick to your guns re: the homebirth and don't listen to all of this negative talk... nobody knows when a baby is going to come and your LO could be just around the corner. Have faith in your body and your LO... at least until you're much closer to 42weeks!

ayrshirelolo · 30/12/2007 22:22

Hiya all!! Yahoo, new thread!!! Am officially very of all of those nearing their due date.... i've still got AGES!!!!! (think i'm the last of the bunch and am only 35 + 4) Big hello and welcome to Makingnosense, fab name!!!
and CONGRATULATIONS to tripletsandtwins!!!! glad you and wee ones are ok, well done girl!! Lovely names too!
Talking of names we're still swithering.... it's such a responsibility!!! Our current favorite for a girl is Zoe, for a boy Max or Rory.... what do you all think? Be honest now!!
Anyway, managed to get the maternity mats in my local Boots today, thanks Madmouse, Fluffy and Gingeme... can't remember who came up with it first!!! Fluffy i still have your phone no in my mobile, i'll send you a wee text when i next can find it, it's at the bottom of a very large handbag i think!!
Dh been nagging me about packing my bag for hospital, suppose i'd better! Still seems very early though!
Well Hogmanay tomorrow ... (don't call it NYE up here!!)and will be lucky to stay up to see midnight!! Have mum, sister, niece and nephew coming for roast beef lunch on Tuesday though so have lots to do! Got a midwife appointment tomorrow too... fingers crossed baby now knows which way is out!
Hope you all have a restful night and a good day tomorrow... lolo xx

Naetha · 30/12/2007 23:56

Love both Zoe and Max - we'd be calling our LO Max if our cat wasn't already called that

Fragolina · 31/12/2007 00:15

Naetha - good tips on the Feliway, from my experience it really does work
Congrats to tripletsandtwins - I had a feeling you'd had the babies by now
Lucky - as my hypnosis cd says 'Babies are born on their birthdays, and not when doctors say'. Did you know only 5% of babies are born on their actual due date? When they give us that magical date, they should also say 'there's a 95% chance your baby will NOT be born on this date.'
Ayrshirelolo - like both Zoe and Max.
Still struggling with boys' names, keep hoping inspiration will strike, but nothing so far!
madmouse - good luck with your appointment tomorrow. Hope baby's heading for the exit!

Off to dinner tomorrow at at a friend's house for NYE, then at MIL's for NY day lunch. Think she's been a bit lonely and wants to get involved with baby preparations (but its all (pretty much done now!) - don't know what jobs I can give her!
Hope you all have a fantastic NYE, whether you're having a quiet night in, or are heading for a night out.

Naetha · 31/12/2007 00:27

Ooh I've just remembered my Dad, who is a GP, dabbles with alternative therapies (he is a qualified homeopath, but also does some acupuncture and osteopathy). He is coming up to see me tomorrow for NYE, and I've asked him if he can bring his acupuncture stuff and see if he can kick start anything! Sounds very bizarre my Dad helping to induce labour, but it'd only be by sticking pins in me!

Should be a good time tomorrow - managed to get a table booked at our local curry house for 7:30 (best curry in the world!) then our local pub (also best pub in the world - serves all Timothy Taylors real ales) is having a band on until the early hours, but is free entry - none of this ticketing nonsense Now I've arranged stuff I'll probably go into labour tomorrow morning

MrsBiscuit · 31/12/2007 05:01

Morning,

Can't sleep.

Despite thinking I'd have all the time in the world on maternity leave to spend all day on here, I've been busy running around sorting things out at home so I'm a bit behind on all the births - Congratulations to Tripletsandtwins, Amani, Awen, Fruitful, toomanyshoes, LouiseSJ and Bettymama . Would love to be able to add to the list but I'm still way off the due date (end Jan) and LO is showing no signs of wanting to come early.

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas - ours was fairly quiet as planned but we have managed to see all the relatives at some point, so not feeling too antisocial. Otherwise time has been filled with doing laps of the country - up to Suffolk and back a couple of times househunting, but hopefully it's been worth it as we've just had an offer accepted on a place, so keeping fingers crossed that it's not too painful a process on top of everything else! Finally picked up our new car too

Off to munch on some more bran flakes and then maybe try and go back to sleep.

lilyloo · 31/12/2007 09:40

Morning all
Nice to see a fewmore of you have found the new thread!
Lucky try not to worry yet!
Your midwife really isn't helping saying those things, as others have said LO may not engage until your in established labour.
Naetha sound like a lovely evening planned and good idea about your dad hope it helps to kick start things after your evening out! As i am sure the curry will thinking of ordering a spicy one myself tonight!
Wonder if any of us will get a nye or nyd baby as we didn't get a xmas one ?
Well good luck girlies will be keeping my fingers croseed for us all

madmouse · 31/12/2007 13:17

Morning all

Have been doing battle with a complex piece of the cardi I am knitting for my god daughter and sortof forgot the time. Better go off to the shops. have to get a move on as her birthday is next week. Nearly there now, working on the hood. Discovered that the hours of knitting yesterday took the swelling out of my fingers and I could slip my engagement ring back on (and I mean slip), but then it was tight again this morning, there you go, knitting slims fingers, who would have guessed.

Lucky, are you feeling better about it all now?

Fragolina, I like the saying that babies come on their birthday! Thanks for the wishes, but I have no appointment? sorry. i am waiting for mw to call me for a home birth assessment.

Sabinar, what doe sit feel like baby sititng on the brim? i am getting so much pain and movement dowstairs that if at the next appt mw does not say he is at least 1/5 engaged I will fine a complaint down there. I have a feeling he will come early, but my common sense tells me that feeling may be called 'wishful thinking' . But then again, my 'feelings' about things are often right so we shall see. Only 36 weeks tomorrow, so he needs to stay in for at least another week or he will ahve to be born in hospital.

Still no Beller!

sabinar · 31/12/2007 14:58

hi MadMouse... well, I don't really know how sitting on the brim feels different to any other time. He's still up in my ribs all the time, but I also get a lot more weird feelings down south - one in particular where it feels like he's trying to dig himself out is rather odd. Lots more wee stops than before, but not feeling as though I'm waddling when I walk, although he does feel quite low and heavy some times. I have a feeling he's moving up and down as he pleases at the moment... any of that sound familiar?

as I said though, my midwives don't seem concerned that he's not settling in yet - apparently they all do what they want to and it mostly ends well

I had another great sleep last night (yay!) so have had a day madly cleaning and organising again. Even managed to get DH in on the act albeit briefly - miracles happen. I think I may have to try some shock tactics soon to scare him into action - an inspirational idea

fluffymummy · 31/12/2007 15:28

Just a quickie to wish all of you a happy, healthy, fluffy, shiny, sparkly, fun new year with lots of safe new arrivals and hopefully some sleep at some point !!!

Tripletsandtwins - I am in total awe of you....well done!!!! Can we have some pics please?!

Bettymama - congrats and well done to you too! All these positive birthing stories are leaving me feeling a bit more optimistic that it may be possible to have a better birth this time around! Glad you're home enjoying your little one

Lolo thanks for the text hon...have now saved your number properly!!!

Barristermum - we drove past you this morning walking your parents dog on our way to Highgate Woods!!! Didn't realise until we were already round the corner...but couldn't call you cos I've lost your number Can you text me please?!!! Then we can waddle around the woods together...oh, and I did great pram research in the playground

By the way, has anyone located those maternity mats in a Boots in North London, or do I need to buy them online?

Right, off to have a cup of tea then bake some biscuits with ds.

We're going to a proper party tonight - you know, one with music and adults and drink and everything. DH has some work friends with a posh pad overlooking the Thames near Tower Bridge so hopefully there'll be good fireworks somewhere....shame I'm designated driver but DH will have to owe me for next year ...and DS is going to MILs, hurrah!, which means we also get a lie in in the morning...double hurrah !!

Happy new year, hugs to all, Fluffy xxx

barristermum · 31/12/2007 15:43

Oooh fluffy - what a lovely NYE - but it sounds majorly energetic - I am so impressed and really jealous of birds eye view of fireworks - I LOVE fireworks and they are set to be spectacular! We are having dinner with some friends walking distance away and it should be very chilled. DH gets very funny about NY - depressed about time flying etc tho' this year should be better with all that the new year holds I guess.

How funny you seeing me walk Ollie. He had a splendid time chasing squirrells in Cherry Tree Woods and met a nice labrador for a race and chase, and has just been taken home by mum and dad and the house feels SO quiet without him. He was very sensitive to my size and energy levels and never went far in the park if I sat on a bench for a minute, and just followed me from room to room at home. I definitely think animals know don't they? He used to sniff the bump most interestedly. When I've finished here I will text you and am completely up for bulk order of maternity pads!

So pleased to hear of bettymama's and triplets and twins success and echo the shout for photos. Slightly awed by your stoicism girls - I am pain relief all the way I reckon unless there is a significant cash prize at the end for bravery, but I totally salute your resolution.

Sympathy to all those with BH and other end of term stresses. Lucky - I haven't had any BH either and don't stress about going overdue - as everyone else has said and more! In France they officially term a pregnancy at 41 weeks anyway so you wouldn't even be having this conversation yet!

Anyway, love to all, welcome to makingnosense, congrays to the lucky few, crossed fingers for beller and hoping all well with Mrs McJnr who like everyone else am totally missing.

makingnosense · 31/12/2007 15:43

Anyone here waking up boiling hot and sweating in the night? Or is it just me? Its happened a couple of times in the past week. Also I feel like I've got a totaly bruised fanjo. Hurts when I get up to walk about. Another few complaints to add to the growing list!

madmouse · 31/12/2007 15:50

Hi Fluffy, you too, and enjoy the party. Tell DH he needs to be sober in case he has to drive you to hospital in labour, then neck a few glasses of champagne

Sabinar, it does sound familiar. I think mine is in and out too. My friend who has two says that is what they do for a while, bobbing in and out before settling down.

Do you still have things to sort out?? I think if there are any drawers left in my house that have not been done yet they are on the run from me now!!. Finding stacks of guitar strings and batteries in all different places in the house. Oh well, of to make a few treats for NYE.
