Hi all

Angel congrats well done! Your lo sounds really cute.

Naetha, what a great birth story, very honest. And not at all offputting to a budding first timer, really .

Susie, sounds like Sabela is planning to play catch-up with her dinky birth size, keeping you busy.

Am really wondering whether things are gearing up here (37 weeks now) as I am having very frequent B_H, have had them from week 17, but all I have to do now to get one is stand up/ sit down/ lie down/ sneeze/ reach for something and I seem to have some more wettish discharge, although have thrush too. Got a prescription, then realised on the bus to chemist that I left it at home. Aaaagh, hate preggers brain, will do it tomorrow. Just need to convince hubby to get plastic sheets for the floor.

Pushchair has arrived and is fab. Already managed to opena nd fold it myself (Madmouse applauds self , well I know how rubbish I am with that!).

efmc · 08/01/2008 16:08

Fragolina - thanks for the spinning baby website tip!

i have another question for you enlightened lot!... my bump is really kinda prickly/itchy just under my bra strap, and on my rib on the right hand side is really painful... it feels as if it's bruised and seems to get worse when i lie down to try and sleep. is this because baby is breech (1'm 36+5). my urine and blood pressure is normal so i don't think it's preeclampsia.

Susiemj · 08/01/2008 16:18

I'm catching up in bits and pieces.

Naetha - I just read your birth story and it made me cry when you described being left alone with LO and DH after all your valiant efforts. So wonderful. Well done you.

Hope the breastfeeding is going well. Hope tip helped a little. I remember one point where in hiospital when Sabela wasn't feeding because she was too sleepy and I had DH and midwife bending over me prodding my boob really hard and trying to annoy the baby enough for her to suck, both trying to say encouraging things (which sounded stressful to my ears - even though it was 'come on come on, you can do it') while the baby screamed herself red. It wasn't my vision of motherhood! Things a lot more chilled now. She's feeding properly and if she gets upset and has difficulties I take her upstairs and we chill out on our own until she's calm enough to try again. Hope you're turning a corner too....

Congrats Angel!
Well i still not managed it yet Fragloina you or lucky ?
EFMC the pain in your right side is normal i have had it with all 3 it feels really sore rather than a pain ? I read up on this and apparantly it's from compression of the ribs as the uterus rises but it does subside when babies head drops down and engages in the pelvis.
Well off to read Naetha's birth story then going to order in a spicy curry for tea although prob won't be able to eat it as i wuss with spicy stuff.
As for partners / dh help apparantly it works better orally and i know my stomach won't take that for sure

pussycatmomma · 08/01/2008 16:32

hey all Just took me about half an hour to catch up with all these posts!
mrs mc, nice to hear from you again! just scanned the list for your due date - 15th! I am very you are 9 days before me!! And i am already feeling slightly desperado to get my baby out in the big wide world!
Naetha - wow. Just read your birth story - feel slightly overwhelmed, this is making it all seem very very real!!!
Susiemj and AngelKG77 - your stories have also left big impressions on this tired little first-timers preg brain! Wow Angel, 3 weeks early!!! Think i would rather be early than go overdue though.
madmouse - lol at you trying out your pushchair putting it up and down etc, think we are definately separated at birth - I've been doing the exact same thing today! {{{freaky coincidence emoticon!}}}
I opted for a Silver Cross Linear Freeway......I love it, especially now me and my mum have had a good old practice with it and I can now confidently put it up, down, chassis on, chassis off, hood up/down and car seat clicked on and clicked off. Phew! Just got to master it with a lttle one now and Im all set....
Sleep still very much eluding me at the moment, and also my poor dh, due to me not sleeping and turning the bed into a bizarre type of pregant womans nest, with pillows etc almost filling the bed in an effort to be comfortable.
Managed to rest a little more today, apart from the pram training session, Ive been and had some more acupuncture on my back and it does feel a little easier right now.
Midwife tomorrow, think she is going to suggest doing the birth plan....
Scan and consultant on thursday to see if my amniotic fluid levels have come down a bit as they were way high last time.
Huge congrats to everyone with their gorgeous new babes, and Thank you very much for all the advice re. breastfeeding, labour, delivery etc. To us novices, it is good to see how the experts are doing it all!
love, love, love to all xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Amani · 08/01/2008 17:01

congratulations angel

madmouse · 08/01/2008 17:16

Hi all

Pussycatmomma, lol, this is getting uncanny!

Lucky, how are you today?

All a bit weird here. I cried twice today, once because of the way poor DH said something (he is innocent!) and once because of the way he looked when I handed him the telephone (also innocent). And I am otherwise feeling quite chirpy, so not depressed at all. Strange.

One of the mw came to drop off a box of scary things for the birth, looked excited when I said I was having constant B-H but then told me I would have to keep him in for another week as they do not normally do home births until 38 weeks. I thought it was 37 . Oh well, with a bit of 'luck' I will be here until 41 weeks at least anyway .

LuckySalem · 08/01/2008 18:40

MM - I've got the scary box as well, freaked me out when they brought it so I made her go through everything in it and tell me what it was for and when it would be used (I bet she hated me for it! lol) there is nothing scary in there. The worst thing that freaked me out was the emergency bag bit which has the resus stuff in but she kinda reasured me then by saying in her (I think it was) 5 years of HB's she's never had to use it.

Angel - Congrats

I was up all night last night with bad back (top of back) so been asleep alot today.

No baby and no feelings of baby except i'm abit damp down there but no gush or trickle or anything so probably just sweat
I was reading my book and there are 6 signs of labour
CONTRACTIONS - Not got those
SHOW - Have had a load of clear gloop but no pink stuff.
BROKEN WATERS - Nope
NAUSEA OR VOMITING - Had both
DIAHRHEA (Sp) - Had that for 3 days straight
BACKACHE or HEAVY ACHY PERIOD TYPE PAINS - Had both!!

Wonder if that means anything [Fingers Crossed]

Anyway - had a quick glance but forgotten everything already. Dp is making me another curry and I'm REALLY looking forward to it.

madmouse · 08/01/2008 18:46

efmc

Prickley itchy under your bra strap, do you get very hot? Could be just irritation, especially if your boobies have got heavier as your pregnancy progressed and there is not much air under there. I certainly have to wash my bras all the time.

Re the feeling of bruising: Are you aware that you are breech? If so it is possibly a nice bony head doing the head equivalent of kicking your ribs.

efmc · 08/01/2008 19:04

lilyloo and madmouse - thanks for the insight. yes, am defo breech, am having a scan this thursday to triple confirm he's breech, and then will be booked in for my c-section... eeeeeep!

i know he could still turn, but at nearly 37 weeks, i know the chances are slim. we'll see!!

the prickly itching thing is worse if i have any material touching the top of my ribs (on the area under my boobs) so am quite gamerously hardly wearing bras anymore, and sit in the living room with my t-shirt pulled up above my boobs (obviously i don't do this when we have visitors!!)

the pain i get on the right hand side is a constant bruised feeling, with an occasional sharp pain that makes me gasp.

efmc · 08/01/2008 19:08

hope no-one minds, have updated myself on this list as was not correct for me anymore!

Hello all, congratulations Angel - teeny baby! Mine's a definite chunky monkey! For anyone that's interested - some more photos on profile - I just can't help it - he's too cute!

Today, his new discovery has been stretching - contorting himself into all sorts of shapes! He pulls some great faces as well - I could have sworn he smiled today, but they don't do that until a few weeks do they? He was probably concentrating on farting bless him!

My sincere sympathies go to those experiencing pregnancy niggles - I assure you most of them will go immediately after birth (only to be replaced by a whole new set, but I'll shhh abut that for now!). People laugh about lack of sleep in late pregnancy, but I've slept better in the last two days than I did in the last 2 weeks of pregnancy! At least when I get the chance to sleep, I can get comfy!

Efmc - look up gall bladder pain - it sounds a bit like this might be what you have. Might be worth checking it out.

Can someone give me a bit of advice on a slightly TMI'ish subject? I was pushing a bit too hard during labour (despite what my MW would say!) and ended up with a couple of lovely protruding piles (told you it was TMI!). They didn't bother me until yesterday, but since a small trip to the shops they've got really uncomfortable - a lot more so than my stitches, and today I've been shuffling around the house, finding it painful to stand uo or sit down. (Another TMI!) I've tried pushing them in, but they just won't go. What should my next course of action be? Is it a doctor issue? Will over the counter creams make them shrink / go inside? Is it the sort of thing where it's just a matter of time, and I need to put up and shut up?

Help - you're the only ones I feel comfortable asking!!

Naetha · 08/01/2008 19:13

Oh, and Lucky it sounds like you're going through what I did - I had about 5 days of increasing niggles before I had my show and things really kicked off - here's positive vibes for you!

Germoloids Naetha, you can get them over the counter. The duo pack is both Cream and Suppository but it works, and then that's one less irritation. if you leave them they might bleed and get worse IME.

Also another tip is to use baby wipes or mild antiseptic wipes instead of normal loo roll.

barristermum · 08/01/2008 20:00

Well - what a day. John Lewis delivery never arrived - they lost it - so I lost it with them as I was on the way to my appointment. After much stressed shouting and tears on my part as I explained how close to giving birth I was they promised a courier delivery for tomorrow. Which then had to be rearranged as they have decided to induce me - TOMORROW!!! Feel a bit shell shocked - had a little cry just now as realising this is the last night for quite some time DH and I will spend alone in our home. I have to have another GTT in case I have developed diabetes since the last and that explains lo's size so that's tomorrow morning. Then I have to arrive at hospital tomorrow evening 7pm and I'm not quite sure when the whole induction thing starts. Please all keep me in thoughts and prayers - I feel very scared tho that's probably just reaction. Love to all of you. Fluffy - let's hope the mats are good for the aftermath!

makingnosense · 08/01/2008 20:05

Barristermum, all the best for tomorrow. Before you know it you're going to have that beautiful LO on your arms. Its natural to be a bit scared, I would be too, but its going to be fine, and I'm jealous that the wait is over for you. Good luck!

toomanyshoes · 08/01/2008 20:32

good luck barristermum! How exciting! When I went in for my induction they got me in a 8pm then planned to give first prostin between 10 and 12 after monitoring the baby for a bit (in the event they didn't start induction til next day) and 2nd gel given 1st thing next day. Hope it all goes well and look forward to hearing your news very soon!

madmouse · 08/01/2008 20:35

Mrs PSquiggle looks like you had a close shave with pre-eclampsia, better keep an eye on it. So you are in the JR on Friday? That's about ten mins from me, I am not sure if you saw my earlier post, I live in Barton and have been complaining regularly about the lack of Oxfordians here . If you fancy (and are up to) a coffee in town (or Headington if that is anywhere near you) let me know!!

Barristermum, I would have lost it so badly they never found it again. Well done for getting them to take action. John Lewis has a reputation for customer service though . How exciting that you will be induced tomorrow. If they want you in by 7pm it sounds like they will give you a pessary to work overnight. I hope it does the trick! Can't wait to hear your announcement!

sideways · 08/01/2008 21:17

Barristermum - best of luck for tomorrow, I'm sure it will be fine and you'll have your gorgeous baby soon.

Angel - congratulations

pussycatmomma - we have the linear freeway too, but haven't quite got round to playing with it yet.

pussycatmomma · 08/01/2008 22:18

ooh sideways, what colour do you have? We went for the pistachio.
Just wanted to say Good Luck for barristermum
(((((((((((Big hugs and Good Luck!))))))
Cant wait to hear of the next new arrival!

ayrshirelolo · 08/01/2008 22:27

Hi girls, just a quicky to say congratulations to AngelKG77 and good luck Barristermum, hope everything is easy, quick and as painless as possible for you tomorrow! Look forward to hearing about the safe arrival of baby barrister!
Naetha, yup, good tip on the germaloids stuff, if it doesn't work you can go to the doc and get a prescription for something stronger but it will probably clear upsoon! I bought the femegel kit last time, with the blue gel packs you keep in the freezer and the gauze covers and it was fantastic at making me comfortable for the initial post natal bit! (crap at links, but you can get it in Boots or Mothercare).
Got a phone call from doc surgery this afternoon to say that latest blood results are back and that there is a prescription for me for iron tablets at the reception desk. Will toddle down in the morning and pick it up, but realised i still have some in the bathroom cabinet from last time that are still in date! Might explain why i'm so knackered all the time... or is that just late preganancy, late 30s and a toddler in tow??
Anyway girls, positive vibes to all those who don't want to wait any longer, and stay warm tonight, it's windy up here! lolo xx

gingeme · 08/01/2008 22:42

Ooh Barristermum so jelous your doing this before me . Realy realy hope all goes well. Realy look forward to some news of your beautiful ginger baby .
All the best babe xxxxxxx

Naetha · 08/01/2008 22:44

Thanks for the germaloids tip - will get some tomorrow.

barristermum - good luck!

Will be thinking of you and sending you positive vibes

Susiemj · 08/01/2008 23:04

wishing you all the best barristermum. will be thinking of you. big hugs.

picture of sabela on profile.

one-handed typing - babe in arms - and never did get that nap. sorry for being crap at keeping up. sore throat and tired. baby asleep - means no sleep for me tonight i guess!

madmouse i think you asked what the problem with sabela was. well, from a range of possibilities, i think she was three weeks further on than we thought and so was overdue. the placenta was calcified which suggests that and her fingernails are very long (and sharp - ouch!). i had thought i'd had an early miscarriage the month befor getting pregnant. now I think it must have been an implantation bleed.
