Hello!

AngeChica · 07/01/2008 13:13

Glad you are OK MrsMc - try not to stress about the money ... in my experience these things always right themselves somehow (and lord knows I've . Not as important in the great scheme of things as getting your baby safe and healthy. NB the list I just posted has all who have popped so far but not everyone has posted full birth stories yet anyway...

Toomanyshoes that is very kind of you about the TENS machine. my email address is:

[email protected]

Well DH gone back to school today and had his usual pre-term insomnia so we were both tossing and turning all night. So have been snuggled up with the dog on the sofa dozing all morning instead of doing all the housework I planned to do as soon as he went back!

fluffymummy · 07/01/2008 13:21

Aarrghh....where's the post-natal thread gone? Can somone post a link please so I can read Naetha's birth story?

Susie - well done on coping brilliantly with what sounds like quite a stressful delivery....so glad you're now home and loving it

MrsMc...missing you, honey...welcome back, even if just briefly

Fragolina - it was me asking about MIL! So glad to hear DH has stepped in. Crikey, had forgotten all about your bunny-boiler SIL in all the mayhem of new babies arriving...your DH has a brilliant family

Lucky - where are you? Does this mean its all happening or are you sleeping late?!

3.5 more days of work. Am fantastically uncomfortable and tired but not long to go now. And I've got tons to do, but mumsnet is so much more fun......anyway, am lucky that just got to get through today (off to forage for lunch in a mo), got an all-day meeting tomorrow (yaawwwwn), working from home on Wednesday and then only really coming in on Thursday to clear my desk and have leaving lunch with friends. So hardly traumatic....wonder how Nicky's trial is going? Now that sounds like work....

Hugs to all....Fluffy xx

Congratulations Susie and spud .

Susie - so glad you got the care you needed and Sabela was delivered safely. Thanks for posting your birth story.

MrsMc - good to see you back . Good luck with the money plan, I hope you get it sorted out as you don't need any additional stress at the moment.

madmouse · 07/01/2008 14:35

Hi all

Susie, thanks for your birth story. Do you now know what was wrong, particularly the jack hammer kicking? Glad rugby hold feeding works.

Naetha, sounds like you a re doing fab!

Hi jonners

Fragolina, am trying to take it easy. Pushchair arriving in 15mins, that will make me happy!

Saw my mate this morning who has SPD for the second time. Her top tip, put a plastic bag on the car seat so you can slide round with your legs together more easily. Also recommended her osteopath, private but may give it a try.

Had a crash course in taking paracetamol from GP this morning. Normally take 3 per year or so. But she says that 8 a day is perfectly safe , oh well, am on my second.

At least lo is happy, freaked out the guy next to me in the waiting room this morning by playing an internal rugby match which was very visible on the outside. Bloke looked frightened and shuffled away.

toomanyshoes · 07/01/2008 15:42

AngeChica, will e-mail you now for address so let me know if you don't receive it.

Naetha, glad things are going well. Charlie is the same when he gets hungry, waving arms about etc and I find it much easier to feed him if he is tightly swaddled. He also sleeps better and longer in a swaddle, so worth a try if you haven't already.

Big wave to everybody else - I keep checking back to see if we have any more babies, very exciting!

barristermum · 07/01/2008 16:38

Gosh - so much lovely stuff going on - am so thrilled for everyone. Can't get over how beautiful Naetha and Awen's babies are. Benjamin has sooo much beautiful hair! The birth stories and breast feeding tips are so helpful as well - so many thanks too to Susie and congrats as well to Spud.

Hang on in there Fluffy - you've nearly done it! Bravo! Come for coffee on Friday! I think Nicky finished at the end of last week - her leader came back and her husband put his foot down!
Welcome back Mrs MC - poor you on the finances front - just the sort of stress you don't need right now! This should all have gone away with your house sale alas!
Madmouse - hang on in there with the spd - so glad it's not affecting lo - and lol at his/her antics in the waiting room.

I had a burst of energy over the weekend after all - DH did proper clean and I did all the windows which sorely needed attenetion and then cooked a beautiful glazed ham, cauliflower cheese, homemade soup and raspberry creme brulee as we had a friends over for dinner. Also came into Chambers today to finishe off some minor odds and ends and have had happy day pottering about without pressure on so all is good.
love to all - how is gingeme doing?

makingnosense · 07/01/2008 16:44

Well went for my ante natal appointment this afternoon and have come away feeling a little disappointed which is silly really. Baby still 3/5ths engaged so no further ahead with that. Midwife was also was really heavy handed with feeling around and I feel totally bruised now! She's coming to do birth plan tomorrow with me, and asked me about my parentcraft classes ( haven't booked any in yet!..... suppose I should, just couldn't face the thought of them, and now cant be bothered.) Feel knackered and fed up now which is totally irrational I know. I just want this baby here and all the hassles of being pregnant behind me and the new hassles of motherhood here instead!

Naetha · 07/01/2008 18:12

I promise my birth story will be up later, just need some time!

LuckySalem · 07/01/2008 19:11

Girls no baby!! MW came this morning and I'm 3/5 engaged (which considering the week before I was nothing is quite quick) I've got constant backache all day today which i'm not enjoying. Sweep booked for Thursday - can someone tell me what it's like? What they do etc?

Congrats to everyone with more babies! and Welcome back MrsMc - keep us updated.
XXX

Naetha · 07/01/2008 20:10

I was given a sweep when I went to hospital for the first time (when I was told I was 2cm dilated). Basically she put 2 fingers up inside me and had a bit of a "rummage". It wasn't at all comfortable, but then it isn't meant to be! Funnily enough as soon as she'd done that the contractions started to get an awful lot more intense, so it obviously had some effect!

lilyloo · 07/01/2008 20:28

evening all can't believe that us 3 ? are all overdue now after a flurry of babies come on babies we need some more to arrive now !
Good luck with the sweep Lucky it is just as Naetha said they put one or two fingers inside you and try to sweep around the cervix to stretch it. It may or may not work but at this point anything is worth a try, although if you are 3/5 you may not need it!
Welcome back Mrs Mc sorry to see the new year hasn't been such a great start but try not to get too stressed about it you need to be in top form for when baby arrives.
Naetha great post loads of useful stuff on there for mumstobe, well done for perservering with the bf it is hard at first but worth carrying on for as long as you can whilst you are still happy to do so.
Fragolina thanks for that but induction is everything i am trying to avoid so hoping this baby makes itself known before i reach that stage although am going to ask for 14 days i think.
Well had loads of bh/cx here again today but am starting to doubt myself whether i will know when it really is labour. Have visions of my birth pool still being packed away by the time i realise it is for real
Well let's hope me, Lucky or Fragloina have some news to post tom how about it girls maybe all 3 of us am sure the 8/01/08 is a good date for a birthday

Fragolina · 07/01/2008 20:59

crap crap crap - just wrote a really long post, and then pressed 'refresh'. Why??????????????

Lilyloo - that's a pact, tomorrow's the day. Luchy, what do you say, are you in??

Had loads to say, will try and remember what I typed a few mins ago and repost.

katyt1 · 07/01/2008 21:07

evening ladies,

had a lovely nap when ds gave in earlier, is anyone 'banking' sleep like me? i feel i could sleep all day atm. dh lets me go back to sleep when he takes ds down for breakfast (when he's here that is), and i sleep after lunch, and i go to bed pretty early, i'm only getting up for 1 or 2 wees at night and am sleeping pretty well considering...
maybe it means my body knows what's coming?!

lots of BH now i know what to look for.
got long list of tasks for the next 2 days when ds is in nursery so nothing can happen before wed night at the earliest ds was 38+1 and that's wed so let's see...course that's 'official' dates, 'my' dates give 38+1 as next mon.....

so much to catch up on...

mrsmc - good to hear you are ok, if worried, hope you come up with a plan

naetha - hope sciatica ok? well done with the bf so far. another tip is to hand express (ie twiddle a nipple ) just before you try to feed so that milk is already right there and he doesn't have to wait or suck hard to get things started.
glad your cats are ok, ours were fine last time, hope they will be this time too. (tho one atm seems to think the crib is esp for him!!)

angechica - well done on the list i rather lost the will to carry on yesterday! my dh was back to work today too, boo hiss.
(and why does the formatting work sometimes and not others?????)

fragolina - your SIL is weird!!! wonder if she really is pg..... well done on the MIL front, hope it works out! mine phoned earlier, 'any news' used to be her catchphrase before i got pg with ds, now it seems to have reared it's ugly head again WE WILL LET YOU KNOW OK!!!! grrrrrr

jonners - welcome and good luck

susie - good tips re bfing, esp rugby ball, lol at the welsh connection

fluffy - good luck with last few working days, all day meeting sounds pants!

madmouse - like the plastic bag tip. and lol at lo freaking out the man in the waiting room

lucky - 3/5ths sounds good, keep going babylucky

lilyloo - we have our pool half-inflated in the kitchen, offcut of carpet for underneath down on the floor, towels, big t-shirts, and half a ton of starburts (for sugar) all ready and raring to go. maybe unpacking the pool might be an idea
also last time, getting in the pool for a test, then some 'dh hormones' got things started so who knows might work for you too

right, off to get some yummy choc pudding with clotted cream, mmmmmmm

AngeChica · 07/01/2008 21:15

No Gingeme today!!! wonder if that means something? Fingers crossed for you Gingeme.

Naetha · 07/01/2008 21:16

Right - marathon birth story posted here - I must warn you it is long!

MamaMaiasaura · 07/01/2008 21:36

Naetha - fab birth story and lots of it reminded me of my labour with samuel - he was back to back too and by golly it hurt! I ended up hallucinating about quavers and the queens corgis!

Re LO's fussing over breastfeeding, if you swaddle them it really does help as had simlar with Samuel. He has got the idea of feeding now, although his little hands do still get a little wavy. I gues they spent a long time inside sucking on their hands that they havent yet got that they wont get milk from them!

MrsMc - nice to see you, glad you are ok although sorry for money worries

Samuel is a real food machine now. He has had me up nearly every night for most of the night wanting hourly feedings. Today he has fed a LOT for over and hour at a time, nappy change, wind and then fed again. Nap, poo, wake, change, feed, wind etc etc. Ah well At least he is happy.

ayrshirelolo · 07/01/2008 22:01

Evening ladies! Naetha just read your birth story, sounds hard work mate!! but glad it was so totally worth it...and that your dh was fab!!
Susie thanks for yours too.... of course we want to read it!!! we're your buddies now!
Mrs McJ glad to see you back, hon! Sorry the money stuff is stressful, hope you can come up with something that works for you so you can relax a bit. How are you feeling otherwise? Hope you're managing to rest a bit!
Fluffy hope you manage to stay awake during your meeting... and then working from home and clearing your desk... i think you're amazing to have kept going this long! Especially with a ds at home too!
Madmouse, i love it when lo does that when someone's watching!! Bet you gave the guy sitting in the waiting room a fright! And take the paracetomol if the GP says it's ok, might help you sleep if you're not in pain?
Lucky three fifths is getting there!! hope it all happens for you soon though, sending you labour vibes!!!!
Kt i'm trying to get as much sleep as possible too, but it's not really good quality stuff iykwim! Every time dd goes for a nap i'm trying to sleep too, but it's more of a shattered doze than a good sleep, same at night too! Don't imagine it'll get better before lo arrives though!
Angechica you are a star for sorting out the list, makes it nice and easy to see who's due, next, etc! How's your day been? Managed to get some rest?
Hello Jonners, hope it happens for you soon!
Lilyloo hope you get the pool inflated in time! Good suggestion about having a trial run with some "dh hormones!"
Fragolina my dd was born on June 13th... and by the Christmas i had a fair old bump!! (and i was teeny timy skinny back then!) i also had my 12 week scan for her at the start of Dec, so am a little sceptical about your Sil.... keep us posted though!!
Barristermum your dinner menu sounds lovely!! Almost sounds like nesting too!!! hope you're enjoying not working too hard! Today was the first day it really hit me that i'm not going back for ages!
Makingnosense hang in there ! Sounds like a crap appointment, but i'm sure you're nearly there.... three fifths is more than half way? Hope it happens for you soon, hon.
Hope gingeme is otherwise occupied today! no doubt we'll find out soon!
Hello sideways, toomanyshoes, anyone else i've missed!!!!!! take care all, lolo xx

barristermum · 08/01/2008 11:27

Hi guys - hoping 8/1/8 is auspicious for those overdue. Boring day here - really bad night's sleep - umpteen trips to the loo and I seem to have done something to my knee and it was aching - extra weight or ligaments stretching or something and I can't do stairs what with that and the reduced lung capacity.
Am in waiting for my john lewis delivery of nursery stuff - it's rainy outside and I am shirking the jobs I had planned for old episodes of ER and Without a trace! Backache making me uncomfortable so sitting on the floor. Whinge whinge whinge!

katyt1 · 08/01/2008 11:41

firstly, naetha, tried to post this last night and lost it. ds has tongue tie too. saw doc about it and feeding probs at about 6wks. doc said he did have tongue tie but it wasn't interfering with feeding cos he could stick tongue out over bottom gumline. see if yours can do this. if not, poss is messing with feeding and could be worth trying to get something done. tongue ties can 'stretch' apparently so may not be a long term prob. also diff nhs do diff things, some snip at birth, here they wait until speech probs develop then fix it, grrr, don't get me started!

well ds first day at nursery since i've been on mat leave, so been swimming, pottered round tesco, bought some sale clothes & cheap books for ds, infacol for baby (great stuff imo), and some lunch for me.
bad indigestion last night after yummy choc pudding, haven't suffered in months, had to dig out gaviscon, yuk hate that stuff.
missed delivery of new cot mattress, hopefully they will be back tomorrow.
barristermum - hope your delivery arrives ok. and knee gets better, have a paracetomol

don't think the local radio had watched the bbc weather forecast as they were saying no rain today, haha.

lolo - some nights i get great quality sleep, but last night wasn't one of them ah well, going to eat and sleep, just must remember to set alarm to collect ds

lots to do on list too, but hey, there's always tomorrow.....or not depending...!

anyone having babies today?

gingeme · 08/01/2008 12:27

makingnosense · 08/01/2008 12:49

My appetite has disappeared the last few days too! Very unusual for me.

Midwife just been and done birth plan with me and was actually very lovely, so I feel lots better after yesterdays rubbish appointment!

All the best to all just wanting their LO's out now. Someone please hurry up... I want to read another lovely birth story.

AngelKG77 · 08/01/2008 12:52

Hello ladies...hope all are well...(or as well as can be expected at this stage! ) Congratulations to those whose babies have come, and good luck on short easy labours to those whose haven't yet! I posted on here a bit a few months ago and then have been more of an occasional lurker in between several trips to hospital for high blood pressure concerns. Luckily all seems to be resolved, and my little peanut came three weeks early!!!

Isabella Freda R. arrived January 2nd at 5:32 am - just a wee little girl at 20.5 inches and 5 lbs 12 oz. She lost 8 oz in her first two days, and is having a tough time with breastfeeding so we stayed in hospital until Sunday night, only to come home and discover we'd picked up a stomach bug in hospital which wiped me out until this morning. I got so dehydrated I'm afraid it affected my milk supply, so we're carefully watching the next few days to see how we get on.

Oh, and as to our labour...as I'd been having BH for a month, when the contractions started at 6pm 1/1/08, I thought it was BH again...it wasn't until after driving the 45 mins back home at 9pm from the friend we'd been visiting, and ordering curries in for dinner that I took a bath at 10:30 pm and realized that the "BH" were now 3-5 minutes apart. Still felt silly calling hospital as no other signs. MW advised staying home for another half hour to see if they became more regular, until I mentioned I hadn't felt movement other than hiccouphs in bath since the morning. So we went in to the hospital and half hour after arriving my waters broke whilst getting my blood pressure taken. By now contractions 2-3 minutes apart steady and getting stronger. But by 1:30 a.m. only 2 cm and so the triage mw booked us a room in the maternity ward and told DH he would need to go home as I needed to be 3 cm dilated before we'd be sent up to Labour & Delivery. MWs were very nice to let us have a half hour to settle me into maternity ward, during which time I insisted that DH wait in the lobby rather than go the 20 minutes home. (I'm quite sure he thought I was completely mad at this point, esp. as MW were saying it'd likely be afternoon of next day as 1st labours go slowly) At 2:30 am I got in the bath rather than taking the offered morphine and stayed in until approx. 3:45 a.m., during which time I was nearly passing out asleep between contractions which felt like they were ripping me apart...So upon getting out I called the MW to accept the morphine - but by the time I got back over to my bed, I was audibly groaning with each contraction and she said she'd do an exam first to see if I'd made it to 3 cm....Yeah, I was 6-7 cm already!!! So DH was rounded up from the lobby and at 4 a.m. we were up in the delivery ward - too late for morphine etc...(which I had said I'd wanted a natural birth, until I started experiencing it - I'm a wimp!) In any case, after many loud scream-grunting/moaning/"OH MY GOD"s at 5:32 out came baby!!! (a teensy bit embarrased at the amount of noise and I know some say that it doesn't help your puching, but I couldn't have kept my mouth shut for anything at that point!!! think they must have been able to hear me throughout the building...) Had the oxytocin injection, but the placenta stayed in for an hour with repeated attempts by the midwives to pull it out...and threats of the need for surgery if the last attempt didn't work - which thank heavens it did with the help of some serious pushing...OUCH! So less than 12 hours from the time I felt the first "BH" to the delivery - and warnings that in future pregnancies if I feel a twinge to run for the hospital!!!

And that's our story...now if we can just get this breastfeeding thing sorted....

gingeme · 08/01/2008 12:57

Fantastic Angel. Well done on the birth of your ickle Isabella. Congratulations to you and your family

Susiemj · 08/01/2008 13:20

congratulations Angel!

I have a little LO too - 6lb 6. So cute at that size! She is Sabela Maria.

Conclusions of research into name Sabela.
Either derived from Babylonian god of health 'Bel' OR from Celtic meaning 'pure water' - both of which are lovely esp. as she's named for in honour of her celtic galician grandmother AND that she's a little Welsh lady.

HAVE to sleep npw - she's feeding every two hours at night, 4-6 during the day. Will catch up with all your goings on after nap!

p.s. for all of you expecting little girls - if she gets a little blood from her vagina - it's normal! Don't freak out.... Guess who did....
