The last message I posted seems to have filled up the old thread so I thought I'd start a new one.

Since bump size was our last topic, I thought this might do for a thread title.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ernest · 10/01/2008 21:22

evening all.

good luck jules. be thinking of you xxx
hello all the new lot. i'm sure we'll all get to know each other, plenty of time to go still, groan.

I went to a big baby shop today. there was a pushchair in the most gorgeous fabric. tbh didn't even look at the pushchair, just fell in love with the fabric. sigh. must be happy with my 7 year old one. I do not need another. I really don't. at all.

did get a new car seat for ds3 tho. he lookes very cute and a bit more grown up in it, he's so tiny bless him.

Now, no more beating around the bush
WEIGHT. Come on, how much have you all put on? I've put on LOADS: I'm freaking out really. I had my 3rd appointment last week, and in the 4 weeks since the 2nd appointment I'd put on nearly 4 kilos I know there was Christmas and ds2's birthday in this time but still.

Now worked out that since a week or so before conception til today I've gained already about 7 kilos - that's more than a stone .

despite hideous weight gain, My body looks fabulous (well, compared with normal) decent sized, magnificent breasts (unfortunately hideously sensitive and itchy, but still,) ok sized bump, obviously pg but not a whale (yet), no more jelly belly (for a few months, the disaster! I hideous summer looking like a fat pig with empty wobbly belly, but for now, well, it's not going to get any better, so I'm enjoying my very breif window of bodily delight) (must stress, only appearance, sore, itchy breasts, sciatica, stuffy nose, manky hair, dodgy knee, back ache, constipation etc etc) but at least my sad little breasts have filled out briefly

So come one, please cheer me up. Don't tell me I'm the only one to gain so much weight. I won't continue at the rate of a kilo a week will I? That'll be another 25 kilos (4 stone!!!). bloody hell.

I won't be so bloody pleased with my marvellous body in June will I?

poppy34 · 10/01/2008 21:28

hi - jules43 - loads of luck with amnio results - FMC are fab so you are in the best possible hands. fingers crossed for you xx

CS - i've not officially told work yet but if you're anything like me , I can't help but think if they're halfway normal they'd spot I was carrying more than post christmas bulge.

gr1973- my bump seems to change but hadnt really looked closely to see if its lopsided - I'm sure its much bigger in the evening.

Had check up and interim scan at 17 weeks today - I think it all went ok but despite fact we mentioned to scanner that we were really worried as lost our last baby due to kidney issues, he then blurts out its really interesting that baby's kidneys are different sizes. At which point I nearly fainted and was trying not to be sick as couldn't take anything more in. luckily consultant was there too and said it was basically nothing as there was nothing structurally wrong with kidneys (and everything else was normal on the scan) .

I am now comfort eating galaxy which is most pleasing

ChinaSurprise · 10/01/2008 21:49

Hi Poppy. God medical staff can be insensitive, can't they? Well done for not punching him!

My bump is deffo bigger in the evening too - must be gravity pulling it down during the day. And yes, I deffo look preggers, but have been quite cunning re clothes. Not tomorrow night though! Finally going to wear my new black next maternity dress. Very simple, shortish sleeves, but shows off the bump I'm so proud of!

As for weight gain, I really think there's no point panicking - everyone's different about the pattern they gain after all. According to the averages I should have put on 10 or 11lbs by now, most of that in the last six weeks. In fact, I put on 6lb in the first 12 weeks, and have only gained another 3lb in the last six weeks - and I really have been stuffing my face.

Right, off to bed now. Night all!

sophiewd · 10/01/2008 21:49

Ernest - sorry to disappoint you 41bs so far and actually worried about that. However did send out DH for bananas this evening and scofed the lot so maybe that will put on a few pounds. How much did you put on with your others

ernest · 10/01/2008 21:55

absolutely cannot remember. And no idea if it was similar pattern each time.

maybe have a note somewhere. bloody hell. a stone. Apart from breasts and belly really don't feel like I have put on that much, eg can still wear wedding ring.

sophiewd · 10/01/2008 22:03

Oh and Ernest, I am sat here staring at a huge box of swiss chocolates Femina by Cailler of Switzerland, that my lovely Swiss guest bought over for us, not being a huge choccie fan are they good, if so that's a few pounds I can add

ernest · 10/01/2008 22:06

I can't look at them without thinking of sanitary portection. Whoever thought of calling them femina fgs. Our local shower gel is called fanjo, so I guess the swiss have a lot to learn about product names in this international age

And last but not least, i consider it mightily unfair for you to eat a box of chocs and not gain more than me, so there.

sophiewd · 10/01/2008 22:07

Will give it a go especially for you

at fanjo

poppy34 · 10/01/2008 22:08

ernest - you're making that up ..its not called fanjo !!

sophiewd · 10/01/2008 22:08

I do remember having a chat with some australians and they kept on and on about wearing thongs in showers, it took me ages to realise they were talking about flip flops and not being body concious and wearing their pants (they were boys)

ernest · 10/01/2008 22:15

I jest not

poppy34 · 10/01/2008 22:16

lol - its a fine product.

on the same theme, americans going on about fanny packs makes me giggle everytime.

gr1973 · 10/01/2008 23:20

i'm not weighing myself. And m/w under strict instructions not to tell me. Am defintely getting to be a bit of a heffer though. With a lopsided bump to boot .

Hating my expanded boobs (they were fairly substantial to start with).

Right off to bed wondering how on earth the chat moved onto fanjo's and fanny packs!!!!!

Night all!

debinaustria · 11/01/2008 06:55

Ernest - I too love not having that wobbly jelly belly, even though I know it will be back and worse - on the weight front I put on 2 kg between appointments on 28.11 and 3.01. I don't tend to take much notice of weight during pregnancy and in the UK I was never weighed, and I certainly didn't weigh myself at home. Here though the scales are in the reception of the Drs, the receptionists then asks me to get on them and stat my weight so there's also public humiliation too!!

This morning I have a check up with the GP - not sure what he'll do, but I'm off for a shower just in case!!

Welcome to all newbies

Good luck Jules with the results

  • was sick again this morning but managed to retain the shreddies. Postponing the iron tablet until later!!
PiggyPenguin · 11/01/2008 08:03

I wouldn't worry about the weight, I mean, what can you do? I haven't been weighed in any of my pregnancies so have no idea if I have gained, but was so sick at the beginning I suspect I lost weight then. My wedding ring is definitely more lose and keeps spinning on my finger.

Lots of people will be having their scans soon, should we put on the list if we find out what we are expecting?

aberdeenhiker · 11/01/2008 08:58

ernest - I'm on your side! I've only gained around 5 kgs (or 12 lbs) so far but judging from last time, it's the sixth month when I really packed on the pounds (and that's with being sick and throwing up for a week - I lost 5 lbs then so I think I'd be higher otherwise). I gained about three stone last time and was upset by it, but I lost it all easily and this time I do not care. I'm eating as much as I want as long as I get my five fruit and veg every day and everything I eat has some nutritional value (ie a bag of peanuts over a bag of crisps - which I know will make me fatter, but has got to be healthier!)

My wedding ring is much looser too - I'm a bit worried about losing it. Does anyone have any hints about how to keep them on?

OP posts:
ernest · 11/01/2008 09:09

wear it on a chain around your neck?

Last time I remember I couldn't wear mine from about 8th month to 5 months after birth some people aspire to get back into their jeans, I just wanted to be able to wear my wedding ring again. Really being more craeful about what I eat now - having made that meal plan should hopefully help. I found my weight of last time, was 57 kilos pre preg, 17 weeks 63.6, so 6.6 gain, this time, start weight 60, 17 weeks 67 kilos, so roughly the same. by 40 weeks was 73.5 so 16.5 kilos in total (2.6 stone). Am determined not to put on so much. I guess I'll give myself a 13 kilos goal, but yes, what can you do?

AM already wearing my support belt as bumpy feeling really heavy. blimey, not even half way yet

debinaustria · 11/01/2008 09:18

Hey Ernest you're only a slip of a thing - I was over 70 kg before pregnancy!!

Just had my Drs check up and everything was OK, he checked my heart, lungs, ears, throat - everything. I had to strip down to my underwear and lay on the bed, blood pressure thing didnt work so he went off to get another leaving the door open.He seemed to be gone a long time(probably about 30 seconds) but thankfully no-one walked past! They don't have those NHS blankets here to cover up your modesty.

debinaustria · 11/01/2008 09:23

Sybil - we're hopefully finding out the sex at 22 weeks so it would be good to add it to the list. Are you also finding out?

ktpie · 11/01/2008 09:36

I feel like I have put on loads of weight, haven't weighed myself and the midwife didn't weigh me this time which I was glad about. I have found that for the past few months I have had to keep eating to keep the queasiness at bay, this is starting to pass now, although seems to be worse when I am at work so have a drawer full of nibbles!
Feeling quite blobby and unfit, been getting out of breath easily, normally I am fairly fit so I am not liking this feeling! Got a Y-plan pregnancy DVD, fairly old and quite easy to do but I'm going to start doing that as regularly as I have the energy for (it's only 12 minute sessions so should be able to manage that!).

goingfor3 · 11/01/2008 09:46

With dd1 I put on five stone and towards the end refused to stand on the scales as I didn't want to know! With dd2 I gained about 1 kg up to 24 weeks then between 24 -28 I gained exactley 10kgs, the dr made me step on the scales again as it was exactley 10 she thought there must have been a mistake. I didn't look at my weight when I went in for my 10 week check and will try not to look at it next week either though it will be in my notes to bring home.

My hamster has escaped again, every time he finds a different way out of his cage! I'm sure he will turn up this evening.

ChinaSurprise · 11/01/2008 10:44

Morning all.
I can beat you all - was 78kg before I got bfp! Am 5ft10ins (1.78m) so was actually fine - I suspect I'll put on 20-25lbs (9 to 11 kilos) as so far the total I've gained is just under average - although the pattern isn't.
Reckon it's mostly bump and boobs at the mo,as my wedding ring is looser and am sure my legs are slimmer - although I think I've got a little more booty! Life's too short to fret imo (remind me of this later when I'm moaning!)
Got soaked by a van driving through an enormo puddle on the way to work this morning. All I could do was laugh - it was a real cartoon moment!
Re wedding ring, if it's too big nothing will keep it on except a plaster - bleurgh. Or you could switch it to your right hand - your fingers are bigger on the right as your muscles are more developed.
Hoping to go swimming at lunchtime today - except it's so wet outside all I want to do is go to sleep under my desk!

PiggyPenguin · 11/01/2008 11:09

Deb, we found out at our 16 week scan last week that we are expecting a little boy. I really wanted to know, not because I was bothered by the sex itself (we really didn't care, and already have one of each so no one else does either!) but I just really really like to know what sex baby I'm carrying, I think it helps me to bond, and think of the baby as a real person rather than a completely unknown entity. So, I'll go first and add it on shall I?

I'm currently keeping my ring on by wearing a smaller ring above it, I haven't taken my ring off since I got married ten years ago and I just can't now!
