Thought I'd make a thread for us ladies who have been through IVF & finally graduated ❤️ would be lovely to have some company from people who "get it"

@GingerBrummie so sorry for the slow reply, I didn't get a notification for some reason so didn't know you'd replied!
Is it tomorrow you're having your scan? How exciting if so!! Also hope that your nausea isn't too bad! This period of waiting is definitely the worst, you think after the BFP it's all glitter & smiles & candy floss but it's arguably worse after 😂
I'm 13+5 today & have told work, by boss was super pleased for us (DP also works at the same place) & I think we've told near enough everyone else we're bothered about telling individually.
I had all measurements & bloods done after my scan & was told the results would be with me within 2 weeks (it's been a week today) so hopefully not got too much longer to wait.
Annoyingly I also had to repeat my booking appointment urine sample as they hadn't been able to process it for some reason & it came back that I have a UTI so currently on a weeks worth of antibiotics!

@Prema112 hope you're well!

@Etonmess20 Im glad everything is going well & brilliant that you can now share the news. Sorry to hear about your UTI. My scan is tomorrow, well remembered! Unfortunately Im just wishing away this first trimester as I have 24/7 nausea & its horrible. Im super nervous about tomorrow but still cannot wait. I had my booking app last week by phone & also need to go somewhere for bloods. Then next milestone will be the 12 week scan, sometime mid Dec.
Good luck with the remainder of tests & congratulations on being in second trimester! X

@GingerBrummie I was so nervous for our 12 week scan, despite having had a scan at 10 weeks but it was such a nice experience & I was surprised how thorough they were checking everything. We actually got our Down's syndrome results back as "negative"/low risk today so that's good, just waiting on the other two now but we'd have been told by now if they weren't low so they must be. Are you having the combined screening? Hopefully you get your 12 week scan date soon!
I've got absolutely everything crossed for you tomorrow & I'm sure everything will be fine. You'll have to let us know how you get on.
Sorry to hear you've been struggling with nausea, hopefully it eases off soon!
We got our 20 week booked in for Christmas Eve which feels so so special 🥰

@Etonmess20 thanks so much Smile And great news on your test results & a scan on Christmas eve will be magical, how exciting.

Today went well, but…. my embryo split in 2 & Im having identical twins!! Im still in shock, I didnt want twins but of course massively grateful as its significantly better news than having nothing. I was just surprised to see 2 heartbeats. Theres a few implications with twins, I will need more scans, will probably deliver them a few weeks early & I dread to think what the birth will be like! I havent told anyone Ive done IVF but I guess everyone will know now were having twins! Lots to think about!

Xxx

@GingerBrummie oh wow that is a shock!! I don't even know what I'd have said if we'd have seen that on the screen at our scan! I'm sure it'll take a while to sink in but as you say, it's infinitely better than bad news for sure. Also it's nice you've found out now so they can get your extra care in place & keep a closer eye on you!
Btw I wouldn't necessarily assume people will guess it was IVF because it's twins, I know a few people who have had twins that didn't have IVF so wouldn't assume that means you need to tell them, especially if you don't want to.

Congratulations again, definitely take the time to process it together xxx

@Etonmess20 thanks much appreciated.
Just out of interest, how do you feel about telling people you’ve had IVF? Do you tell then or will you keep it a secret. Im happy to tell closest friends but not sure about everyone else. Its strange with unexplained infertility, I never got any real answers so always felt a bit at limbo.

@GingerBrummie we've told a few close friends who supported us when we were going through. My DPs mum also asked if we'd had IVF after we told them about the baby as he said something about having an extra scan due to treatment we'd had & I think she must have put 2 & 2 together.
We also had to tell work as we were entitled to paid fertility leave.
Neither of us are actually against it tbh & if anyone ever asked we'd tell them honestly but I suppose on the whole it isn't something that comes up with majority of people. There's been a couple of people who've asked if it was planned (the most bizarre question) & we've just said yes. If only they knew how very planned this baby was 😂 got to admit it isn't something I'd ask. Especially when I am 29, DP is 35, we have been together 4 years, own our own home etc 😂
Fully get what you mean with unexplained, it would almost be easier to say "we needed IVF as I have X problem" or whatever.

@Etonmess20 sounds like you both have a very healthy view on IVF, I admire that. Im still accepting it but want to be more like you!

@GingerBrummie I think everyone's different & I suppose as well we've had a few more weeks to consider "what it someone asks" etc. I think when you've been as lucky as we have to get our BFPs it kind of just becomes part of the story doesn't it?
Feel like getting your head round the IVF may need to take a backseat to getting your head round twins for now anyway 😉 at least you know that'll be the thing everyone asks about!

@GingerBrummie Wow!! Twins!! Amazing news, so happy your scan was good! Sorry to hear you're feeling rubbish We haven't told loads of people we did IVF but I think similar to @Etonmess20 if someone asked I'd tell them, mainly because I'd struggle to remember who knows and who doesn't

I'm having more spotting which has been quite stressful. I'm trying to tell myself everything is ok but I'm pretty nervous for the 12 weeks scan on Wednesday. I also had a 10 weeks scan @Etonmess20 which is definitely helping but I'm still nervous. Such a rollercoaster!

@Prema112 sorry to hear you've been having spotting - what sort of colour is it? (Sorry for the personal question!) I only ask because I had brown spotting on a fair few occasions & although it really stressed me out every time it wasn't anything to worry about & midwife told me it was normal. Are you getting cramps with it too? It's far more likely than not that after a good 10 week scan that baby is completely fine in there, I always used to try to imagine mine having some kind of spring clean or mad dancing session 😂
I strangely feel a lot more reassured since my 12 week scan & I look & feel more pregnant now so I think that helps. Hopefully time flies between now & Wednesday when you get to see them all over again!

Hey @Etonmess20 it's been pink, red and brown 🤷‍♀️ It's only when I wipe. I'm actually wondering/hoping it's irritation from Cyclogest, not putting it in that way anymore! I've been wondering whether to get another early scan but Wednesday doesn't seem too long to wait and it's not getting worse. I hope this is the last of it, I hate spotting!!

Prema112 · 14/11/2021 07:27

Not getting any cramps thank goodness x

Report
Etonmess20 · 14/11/2021 07:34

@Prema112 it could well be irritation from the pessaries, especially if it's only small amounts when wiping. How much longer do you have to keep using them for?

@Etonmess20 Just today and tomorrow, then I take them every other day for a week so only about 6 more days Smile I've got kinda vaginal heaviness with the spotting which gives me hope as it feels like it's around that area rather than uterus hopefully. Can't wait to be able to feel baby, it's such a comfort. I felt my son at 14 weeks. Tried to find hb with a home Doppler yesterday and couldn't find it, I know it's a bit early though

Report
Etonmess20 · 14/11/2021 08:12

@Prema112 I had that same kind of heaviness when I had the spotting, as well as odd bits of cramps. The fact it's not heavier & you're not in pain suggests it's probably fine but I appreciate you're anxious & worried about it because I was too. I am still an avid loo roll checker now tbh but don't think that'll change.
Oh that's exciting about the pessaries, I only did them twice a day until 8 weeks but so nice to be free of them. I did find I'd got used to doing them though so felt like my routine was a bit out!
Will you be exactly 12 weeks on Wednesday?

OP posts:
Report
Prema112 · 14/11/2021 09:20

@Etonmess20 Yes, exactly 12 weeks! Nice I don't have to wait longer. Although my 16 week midwife appointment has just been changed so I'll be over 19 weeks for it!! I'm gonna try change it I can't wait that long with no checks! When was your last bout of spotting? I'm a bit worried that after 12 weeks scan there is nothing until 19/20 weeks and I don't wanna be spotting for weeks with no reassurance!

Report
GingerBrummie · 14/11/2021 09:44

@Prema112 Ive also heard that the pessaries can cause spotting. Ive always taken at the back as they gave me thrush! I cannot wait to end them at 10weeks.
Wed will fly by & Im sure everything will be fine, they never seem to be bothered with spotting, I had it at the beginning & no one cared!
Best of luck x

@Etonmess20 do you have a visible bump now? How exciting!

Happy Sundays x

@Prema112 ah that's nice that you'll be bang on 12 weeks. That's not ideal about your 16 week appointment though 😬 although I don't know if it matters as such but does make it loads longer between appointments.
I had spotting around 7 weeks, 9 weeks & around 11 weeks. It would last for a day or so at a time. Really stressful this pregnancy lark, they don't tell you about all of this!
I'd maybe just keep an eye on it & see how you go but definitely contact the hospital if it gets worse or you're worried.

@GingerBrummie I do indeed have a visible bump, I was offered a seat in the pharmacy waiting for my prescription a week or so ago. I almost feel like I'm bigger than I expected but just going with it 🤷🏼‍♀️ how have you been feeling?

@Etonmess20 amazing that you have a bump, I cannot wait for a “real” bump… my current bump is made up of food sadly!!

@GingerBrummie I also have a food bump!

I wanted to let you and @Etonmess20 know that I went for another early scan today as I passed a large clot last night. Baby was fine! So relieved! And they couldn't see any evidence of a bleed HmmThis bleeding thing is so stressful wish it would stop. I've still got my 12 weeks scan on Wednesday and I'm actually looking forward to it now which so nice Smile
