Hi! I haven't been on for ages - we've been too busy telling our parents... It went really well - I don't think I've ever seen either my Dad or my dh's with such an enormous smile! Mum says Dad still hasn't taken the grin off his face!
We told my parents last week when we took them out for a nice meal to celebrate Dad's birthday - and to break the news. We signed Dad's card "From dh, me and The Bump". Dad gasped and I knew he got it, so I quickly invited Mum to come clothes shopping with me in the January sales..because I'd need some maternity clothes. Within thirty seconds, my parents, my sister, the waiters and just about every diner in the restaurant knew! The staff were lovely - they brought Dad's dessert with a sparkler in it for his birthday, and mine too, because of the baby.
We told my dh's parents when we took them to France for a day trip on Saturday - it was their first trip abroad, so we went for a nice lunch at a restaurant overlooking the beach, and told them the news. They were over the moon, too, and every time anyone mentions the word Grandad, dh's Dad's face just lights up.
Next milestone is the nuchal fold scan, which is on Thursday. I'm nervous, but I'm also really excited. Then on Friday I have to tell my boss at work. She is on holiday next week, and then the following week I am going on a business trip, so it will be my last chance before I go. I'm going with a colleague, and it is going to be a really hectic trip, so I going to have to take it easy and to do that I need to explain why. Otherwise it's just not fair on my colleague - I can't say that I am knackered and go to bed early or rest in the middle of the day, if she is still working like crazy, and not let her know why. I think my boss will be great about it, but I'm not quite sure about my other colleague... We'll see - it's not that she's nasty, just that she is so focused and career-minded, and she doesn't really appreciate that anyone might have priorities outside the office. So keep your fingers crossed for me...
