mummywannabe - my dh said last night "look at the size of your stomach!"

"Yes," I replied, "it's nearly as big as yours."

That shut him up....

hello sorry I haven't been on but upshot is I am having a scan 9.45am on Monday!

Phoned maternity ward and spoke to a MW who was nice but said as I didn't have to be admitted she would pass me on to EPAS. EPAS were nice too said I should have phoned earlier for a scan I said I did at 10 weeks and got told that I should keep an eye on the bleeding and if it gor wrose phone the ward! She said yes I know why they said that we only have had one sonographer on during the holidays and the scans are all backed up, I said I thought I would have got a dating scan at 12 weeks anyway and she said "oh you get one anywhere between 12-15 weeks)" (your one and only).

She did say with my history I should have been offered one anyway. I also lied and said I had been bleeding on and off for 2 weeks and I had spent Christmas not knowing if this baby is dead or alive. So the upshot is she managed to squeeze me in on Monday.

What a bloody joke of early maternity care bascially you have to lie just to get a scan that everyone else in the country seems to get as routine even when you have had a previous MC. I'm already having to pay for a 20 weeks scan!

Anyway I'm actually quite happy I will be having a scan on Monday.

isaidhohoho · 28/12/2007 12:32

hoorah kitty!
good luck for monday xx

frostythesnowMin912 · 28/12/2007 16:01

Yey for Kitty, although grrr that you should have to go to that much trouble.

Anyone else feeling all bah-humbug about NYE?? I mentioned to DH last night that I didn't think I'd even bother to stay up til midnight and he seemed surprised. I mean really, I'm knackered by 10pm anyway, can't drink, have nowhere to go and even if we did wouldn't be able to get a babysitter, whole thing is an anti-climax anyway, grumble, grumble...

Mummywannabe · 28/12/2007 16:39

Glad your finally getting your scan kitty, i'm sure all will be fine for you.

Thanks hatrick and isaidhohohho, got over it now, i'm just a bit oversensitive at the moment!

Frostythesnowmin912 - i feel the same about NYE, sure i'll stay up but could honestly give it a miss.

imdreamingofawhiteKITTYmas · 28/12/2007 21:11

Sorry just came in this morning posted my news and ran away. I'm feeling quite positive about the scan I feel that if I go there and everything is OK I can finally relax about this pregnancy and start actually believing I will have a baby at the end. Now I just need to find a babysitter for the DDs as thats the only day DP has to work so he can't come with me.

hatrick - I don't know what to say I have been following your other thread, you are being so brave and calm about it. Again just remember the chances are still in your favour. I think you are absolutely right going for the combined scan, I hope it brings the reassurance you need.

Minnie - glad the sickness is starting to pass. I'm with you on the forgetfulness as well. I'm terrible, I tried to put butter in the tea instead of milk yesterday.

ScottishSusan - hello and congratulations wow number 6 well done! I had a homebirth last time and hopfully will have one again this time. Homebirths rock but I was too scared to have one with my first baby.

Min912 - I'm another bah humbug about NYE or Hogmanay as it's called up here, I've done the trawling the streets thing, paying about £20 to get into a club thing, going to Edinburgh thing, now I want to watch TV in my PJs and thats about it.

Hope everyone else is doing OK, good luck with all our scans too x

ScottishSusan · 29/12/2007 08:40

Morning
Kitty, you must be somewhere near me....I live in the land of the "proclaimers" or "Jimmy Shand" for those who are a bit older. Hope your scan goes well!

I am getting really fed up with this sickness thing....did think it was passing but it just seems to come and go... a great day yesterday, lots of energy and no sickness and today back to feeling sick, sore head and no energy...

I am feeling a bit bah humbug too... wish all the decorations and tree would take themselves down and we could move on to Easter when we will all be "glowing" and feeling great!!! As for hogmanay......this is one of the best villages in the world to live if you really want to celebrate....parties...outdoor activities...family ceildhs .... but me this year will be in bed by 10pm with ear plugs....BORING!!!!

I was so sick before Christmas that my doc signed me off work for a couple of weeks...now dreading going back on the 7th. I am a Principal teacher and don't want to let everyone down but am having panick attacks about coping with work and 5 kids at home....I do only work 3 days but it's pretty intense and it's not the kind of job you leave at work....

I am moaning again.... sorry folks.....hope everyone else is feeling a bit better!

pigleychez · 29/12/2007 09:12

Morning all.

Im 12 weeks today Feels likes ive reached a milestone or something!

Welcome to SottishSusan -- Number 6 - wow!

Good luck to everyone with Scans soon. Mines on Monday which i cant wait for but still alittle aprehensive about.

Im the same about this New Year too. DH and I arent going out,Just cuddle up on the sofa watching the rubbish tv, trying to stay awake.
Would usually do something but just want a quiet one.
Plus i often find it an anticlimax anyway.

Hope everyone is well and people arent suffering too much.

ThreeFrenchHensEEC · 29/12/2007 10:08

Pleased about the scan kitty.

I'm with you all on the nye thing. I find staying up after 9.30 tricky at the moment. I will make a bit of an effort though - my parents are here so I guess we'll stay in, play a few games etc. Bed at 12.30!

Also the forgetfulness thing is hitting too. DH is being really understanding about tiredness, nausea etc but really not getting the inability to think! Sickness seems slowly to be improving, but as with Scottish susan, no sooner do you think you're over the worst when it comes back with a vengence. I hit the magical 12 weeks tomorrow, so am hoping for improvement soon...

libraladytistheseasontobejolly · 29/12/2007 17:34

Evening everyone.
Hoorah for Kitty. Glad you have managed to get a scan sorted even if you did have to tell a few fibs. Can't believe the state of the NHS where you are. We get 12 week combined nuchal tests for free and a 20 week anomaly scan, but I hear other areas the nuchal tests aren't free and obviously you guys don't get the 20 week one. Why isn't it the same for everyone. I'd quite happily pay for my prescriptions during pregnancy if it made the maternity services equal throuhout the country. I'm sure others would too.
Finally received my combined test results. 1:3544 for DS and 1:29180 for Edwards and Pataus. Really relieved as due to my elderly age without the combined tests, my risk factor was 1:178!
Hatrick hope everything pans out well for you.
Good luck for anyone else with scans in the near future.
As for NYE I've got everyone coming to us. Have to do a buffet for 10 people, including in-laws and out-laws, and friends. We've got some small fireworks for DS early in the evening, and i've arranged a pass the parcel game for him which of course I will fix it so that he wins as the main prizse is a box of Thomas the Tank Engine Chocolates. Then after he's gone to bed, we've an evening of quizes, bingo and brainteasers arranged to pass the time until the witching hour. Things normally wind down about 2am when everyone goes home. We've done this sort of thing every year since we had DS as it's not fair for us to ask parents to babysit so we can 'go to the pub'. It's much more intimate and cosy and cheaper. Luckily everyone lives within a 10 minute walk from our house. May even allow myself a small glass of wine this year. As yest during this pregnancy, I haven't evene indulged one glass of alcoholic drink!
Have a nice Saturday evening everyone.
LLxx

santascRUMPELedsuit · 29/12/2007 18:20

Hi All,

Glad to hear you are all coping well. KITTY - great news about the scan - you will feel so much better for it. HATRICK - great idea to go for the private - so worth it to put your mind at rest.

SCOTTISHSUSAN - number 6 - wow. Someone joiuned recenlty on number 7 - so she beats you DISNEYSTAR - I think. Where are you? KITTY is in Motherwell. Forgotten who is in Glasgow? memory I am in Stirling.

We had a nice Christmas - was feeling abit bleurgh. Lay down for an hour with Lo in the afternoon. Boxing day went to the sales with SIl as Lo needed a new coat. Nearly fainted in Debenhams and some nice lady called a first aider. Was quite scary - luckily I know when I am going to so headed for the seats (bumping into people all the way SIl arrived and got me some cake and coke so flt better after about 30 mins. I have low BP anyway and when pg it just hits the deck. Thankgoodness it wasn't LO and I out on our own.

We had a wedding yesterday - where we used to live. So stayed with PIL. I managed to stay until 9.30pm - amazing for me. I am usually in bed before 9 these days. Anyway else suffer form horrendnous insomnia in early pg? MS seems to be getting better - more good days than bad now. I will feel so much better once scan has been done though - as it was this time with my first one that things went wrong.

Am sure I am cooking a blus one this time - cannot get enough protein!

No Hogmany celebration here - can't be arsed at all. Pregnancy makes me the ultimate selfish person We don't know anyone yet anyway. The days of traipsing around the pubs and ending up at some random party are long gone! I never feel like alcohol, when early pg anyway (although I did have a very small sip of champagne yeserday and it was yummy. I have the occasssional glass of nice red when near the end. Anyone else still of tea/coffee?

Well giant post but hope you are all well.
xxxx

Mummywannabe · 29/12/2007 19:34

Santasrumpledsuit - been feeling dizzy like that too, not nice is it.

Have scan on thursday, can't wait but very nervous. Gonna go shopping after all being well and get some bigger clothes! can't bring myself to until i know all is ok. Gonna be like my mum and get huge, pretty big already. Generally a size 10 and naturally slim but boy has that changed!

Minkus · 29/12/2007 20:50

Hello all

santascrumpled suit- yes feeling dizzy, keep on forgetting and when I stand up the room spins in and out of focus!

And still off tea too.

Didn't realise protein cravings were a boy thing- but all I want to eat is fish fish fish and more fish (just waiting for salmon to cook now mmmm) but can't remember this with ds. Although after horrid hyperemesis with him and this one too, which thankfully now seems under control, any food I want is a good thing! (Runny egg sarnie this morning oops)

You guys seem really clued up on all the tests around. I am feeling pretty shamed by not having a flipping clue about what is even offered- I've had my 12 week scan and have an appointment for 20 week anomoly scan, but as for the blood tests I really don't know what's what. Will have to go and find out more, the maternity "pack" (er a couple of flyers about breastfeeding groups and the purple "I'm Pregnant" book) wasn't particuarly helpful. MW completely uninterested and don't even know that she wants to see me any time soon, maybe I should book an appointment anyway so I can clue myself up.

Have a nice evening all, I am really happy as dh just bought a laptop in the sales so I can come on here whilst "we're" watching telly

Minkus

Mummywannabe · 29/12/2007 21:03

Minkus - i have no idea about bloods either, posted on under pregnancy to find out! will let you know if i get any info. sorry your feeling dizzy too.

Minkus · 29/12/2007 21:07

ooh thanks mummywannabe will go over and look for thread now

Mummywannabe · 29/12/2007 21:11

Minkus - is under 'when will i know who my midwife is'. Had one interesting reply that focused me on finding out more info.

KerryMea · 29/12/2007 22:51

Hi all -I'm a newbie - due on 30th July!

This is my first baby and it wasn't planned and I'm very nervous - I've already had a scan on Christmas Eve due to lots of bleeding before Christmas, and all is well, but am travelling around NZ without BF at the moment so this all feels a bit bizarre and I feel a bit on my own. Putting my feet up lots though and cancelled the glacier hike!

So, will be nice to share some experiences with others in the same boat as not bumping into many pregnant 30-somethings over here!

I'm so nervous about miscarrying - is this normal? Panic all the time as my boobs don't hurt any more and don't feel so sick (although I suppose I should count myself lucky). But I do feel like someone has drained my body of blood and replaced it with liquid lead if I even walk around for an hour!

Not looking forward to NYE either - will be out with a bunch of Kiwis who are friends of frineds and would much rather be tucked up with a book!

imdreamingofawhiteKITTYmas · 29/12/2007 22:57

Evening all starting to feel v nervous about the scan keep thinking something has gone wrong that I don't feel pregnant anymore, MS has worn off, what if it's a mmc? just going a bit mad. Am dropping off the DDs at a friends though so thats good.

For NYE we are having SIL and 14yo neice to stay, once DDs are in bed we will watch TV and play a few silly board games. One of our neighbours gave me a huge bottle of champagne on Boxing Day and if the scan is good news I may just have a glass at the bells.

pigleychez - happy 12 weeks, best of luck for the scan on Monday to you too, this is your first one isn't it and you did think twins before?

libralady - great news about your scan results, your NYE sounds great too.

Rumpled - sorry to hear about your Boxing Day scare you will have to take it easier, agree protein = boy, I have craved sweet things with both DDs and this time so think it's another pink for me

Minkus - bleurgh fish even the smell would make me wretch, my craving at the moment is toast and raspberry jam loads of it. DP got a Wii before Christmas which means loads of MN time for me without him complaining, he is currently fighting zombies (yes he is 33!)

pigleychez · 29/12/2007 23:25

Hi all.

Yes Kitty. First scan for me! Really looking forward to it. My Mum is a twin and DH has a feeling its twins. He says im much bigger than his colleagues wives at this stage. I however dont think it is twins... soon see I suppose!

I too am getting more nervous the nearer the scan gets... what if they tell me theres nothing there and never has been!- Have I just been imagining im pregnant!

Welcome to KerryMea.. I too am a first timer
Where abouts in NZ are you travelling? I was born in the North Island.

mcchesers · 30/12/2007 04:41

Hey ladies..just popping in while on holiday to say hello.

Kitty - If it makes you feel any better, my MS has subsided too. Good to hear you have a scan for Monday!

We had the NT scan 26/12 while over just to get it out of the way (and a half price) This baby is growing like mad. There he was with a big belly just wriggling away! NT was fine, nothing to worry about.

Rumpled - I'm also in Glasgow. All signs seem to point to a boy with this one over here too. All protien, no sweets.I'm STILL sick with this f'ing cold and sore throat..but happy to be getting the sunshine and alone time with the DH. I can't even be bothered to shop so tired zzz....

NYE is going to be spent with the family on a llama ranch. Sounds pretty fun actually and all my wee nieces are so excited.

Hi to all and the new ladies!!

ScottishSusan · 30/12/2007 07:47

Morning all! Don't feel sick this morning....YET! Yipee!!

My scan is on Jan 7th and I'll be 12+3 by then. I am looking forward to it but not as worried as I was a few weeks ago. I had a slight bleed at week 8 and had scan and everything was great! No bleeding since. I have had this type of bleeding before and it is erosion of the cerivix.... I really embarrased myself when talking to midwife about this... I said "erosion of the cervix? Well that's probably because of the amount of use it's had......I mean...." too late... the midwife was in stitches and I was bright pink.. I did mean since I had had 5 babies before.... ah well..

Have a good day everyone!

Minkus · 30/12/2007 08:51

Hello everyone

Tee hee ScottishSusan she must have thought you were a right little minx!

Good luck for the rest of your hols mcchesers, KerryMea are you holidaying too or do you live in Z? Almost every newly pregnant woman who is keen to have a baby worries about miscarriage I think so don't be too hard on yourself, early pregnancy is such a hormonal time that one minute you can be so excited and the next in tears about some"minor" worry which of course to the poor hormonal pregnant gal is not minor at all and I dare any dp to tell her otherwise

Anyone elses bowels playing up? Sorry if tmi, am being farly "regular" but get lots of tummy cramps early morning, normally what wakes me up if ds hasn't already done so. And then I huff and puff and get a bit sweaty over what could be described as a couple of marbles

Have a good day all.

Minkus
x

cass66 · 30/12/2007 09:18

to reassure you minkus, my bowels are playing up too. I get horribly consipated in preg (I'd forgotten that bit, until now!), and it's happening again. try dried apricots, nice to eat, high in iron and they work for me. might get some prune juice from tescos if if gets worse.

happy new year to all. we are having an early party in the village for families, 4-7pm with a disco and food, then I expect I will be in bed at midnight!

ThreeFrenchHensEEC · 30/12/2007 09:20

Nice description Minkus! I also have tummy cramps in morning but am eating loads of fruit,so going to the loo not too bad...

Hi there KerryMea - congrtas. Liquid lead is a good description! I think it feels just like altitude sickness, where every step is a bit of an effort, coupled with nausea.

Very funny Scottishsusan

Minkus · 30/12/2007 09:22

thanks cass66 will give the apricots a go.

I too am hoping to be in bed well before midight on NYE, even if I'm not in bed I am certain I will have fallen asleeP on the sofa
