Aubrey and Betsy are great, Soph.

NEM - I worked right up to due date last time, and then had the two most boring weeks waiting. Induced on Christmas day... after two huge lunches!

VictorianSqualor · 04/12/2007 14:02

I love Elspeth, we sometimes call DD it, somehow we got it from Ella! I also like Frances, that's DD's middle name, so another one she gets called!

Grandparents- can only trell you mine, FIL was abandoned as a toddler.

Nans- Winifred Beatrice and Alice-Rose
Grandads- Wilfred (yep, Win and Wilf LOL) and Jess Harold

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 04/12/2007 14:23

My grandparents (Aubrey & Betsy) were married for 64 yrs before he passed away. He used to call my Nan BB They always held hands when they were out & would share the same armchair when they went to my mums for dinner My Nan is still with us & coming out here for Christmas

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 04/12/2007 14:25

I mean they had separate dining chairs while they were eating - obviously It was sooooo cute because Grandad was only 5ft 2" & Nan is 4ft 11". My mums side of the family is vertically challenged

EllieG · 04/12/2007 14:33

Ah lovely. I want to be like that with my DP when we are old.

jaq39 · 04/12/2007 14:36

Hi all, not posted for a while, but had my twenty week scan today and it looks like everything is fine! And it is a girl! (I was sure it was another boy)
She said I had a low lying placenta, but not to worry too much as it will probably move. Anyone got any experience of this? They reccommended another scan at 34 weeks.
Thanks

EllieG · 04/12/2007 14:45

Congrats jaq! Fab to have another girl on thread too - evens up the boy/girl ratio a bit more. Must be nearly half half now?

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 04/12/2007 14:48

Jaq39 - congrats, another girl I was so convinced my lo was going to be a girl - just goes to prove I´m no good at guessing these things I don´t think the low lying placenta is too much to worry about but someone in the know will be along soon

sagitta · 04/12/2007 14:50

Congratulations Jaq!

V sweet grandparents, Soph!

Elfsmummy · 04/12/2007 14:50

paranoid mummy we got the car seat from the glasgow pram centre in the end and they sent it out next day delivery
here

But most other things I got from whizzy wheels as their shop is about 100 yards from our old house! They do a roaring on-line trade and I can highly recommend them. Not sure where they sit in terms of price these days though. I just had a quick look at their sight and it looks like they'll price match on the bugaboo so you might get them to match two left feet??
here

As for names We've got Thomas, William and Edward for a boy and not sure about girls. I love Olive (but DH is yet to be convinced) Kate, Laura and Martha (my sister was bullied by a girl called Martha at school and that it why its bothering me slightly)

My grandparents are William and Peggy (margaret) and Peter and Sybil.
Dhs Grandparents are Marjorie and Edgar and Marjorie and Fred.

I love Fred but our surname is Fraser and don't think I could do Freddie Fraser. Also love Grace but Grace Fraser sounds a little too like Grace and Favour for my liking.

scampmum · 04/12/2007 14:53

Congrats Jag!

Soph, that is SO cute. DH's grandpa died and his grandma got married again at 70 - was married for 27 years until Grandpa Tom (2nd hub, basically grandpa to DH as he is only 33) died two years ago aged 102! warms the very cockles...

My grandparents are/were Isabel (wanted for DD but Mum said her mum didn't like it, then three friends called their daughters Isabelle), Mum's dad Walter (our #1 boys name), Ronda (Polish/Australian origin) and Ken (Australian). DH's were Kathleen shortened to Kaie, eek dunno his Mum's Dad (died 14 years before DH born), Ted (he is Ed - they are both Edward John) and... eek! only 50% on my DH's grandparents' names. Never mind, he'd get 0 on mine!

Sagitta I like Beryl, it's cute and different. Out of the granny names I think Ivy and Matilda are my favourites.

scorpio1 · 04/12/2007 14:54

Congrats Jag! The girls are evening out now aren't they!

I'm off to Plymouth tomorrow to spend my xmas money from my parents, wahoo! Clinique counter here i come!

Elfsmummy · 04/12/2007 14:55

Hi jaq39. Congrats on your scan. Lovely little girl.

About 20% of pregnant ladies have a low-lying placenta at 20 weeks scan but that figure plummets to just 5% who still have a low lying placenta when they are scanned again at 34 weeks. So chances are everything will be fine come 34 weeks and you'll just get to have another look

Elfsmummy · 04/12/2007 14:58

Oh, I forgot that I adore Matilda (and especially Tilly) and Ivy is lovely too.

DH thinks that I'm trying for all the characters on the House of Elliot as DD is Evie (although not short for Evangaline)and I love Beatrice and Tilly for this one if it turns out to be a girl!

Sorry, Jaq (can't read).

Friend who gave birth three weeks ago had low-lying placenta but basically the placenta has done most of its growth and the uterus still has loads to do so in most cases the uterus will grow more and effectively move the placenta away from the cervix. She was really worried she'd have to have a section and had loads of scans, inc. a private one (she's an NHS GP!!) and in the end had an amazing natural birth with no drugs and one tiny tear.

Sybil - Sybilla is really nice (anyone seen Kind Hearts and Coronets?).

Really sorry about the red herring on twoleftfeet - they were fine with us

Damn surnames - I love Molly but we are Holloway, also love Lily but think maybe too many Ls?

sagitta · 04/12/2007 15:06

Thanks for all the oldies names, everyone. Getting quite a good list here now.

We really thought about Queenie last time, but our families all said we couldn't.

sweetbean · 04/12/2007 15:09

Eva07
when you are settled in we will have to me up for a walk around the lake. Do you have any DC i have a little girl she will be 3 in Feb.
As for the nhs system here I'm not sure I'm a good example in 15+3 and have only seen my MW one and i had my 12wk scan at 14 wks so i don't think its that great in wales to be honest but I'm sure that everyone has a different experience and if its your first then you might get more appointments ? xx

scampmum · 04/12/2007 15:11

Maternal grandma Isabel was always known as Queenie. Have you read Small Island?

EllieG · 04/12/2007 15:13

No no no to Queenie. Enough is enough.

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 04/12/2007 15:13

Sagitta - I´m sorry but I now find myself definitely having to butt in - you cannot call a little girl Queenie!!!!!

scampmum · 04/12/2007 15:13

NE/FM, I worked until 37 last time and found it really hard. Lots of walking in my commute so it was the getting in that was the prob, plus my last week at work was a horribly intensive conference with about 20 really hardcore meetings. This time going off at 35+6 (if I make it that long).

jaq39 · 04/12/2007 15:14

Thanks everyone, dont think I have too much to worry about,

Love old fashioned names, my nana was called Isabella and papa mathew.
Gran was Helen and grandpaIs called neil(neilly).
Me and my DH will have problems with names again this time he is Turkish!
Mind you there is loads of nice turkish girls names, but some of the boys names I just dont like at all (hope not offending anyone)

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 04/12/2007 15:15

EllieG - thank God, I thought I was going to be the only one, so at least if Sagitta decides to beat me up I´ve got you as back-up
