True. Will see what DP thinks of it all, cos I suppose he has to have some part of it.

Does anyone feel, secretly, that the baby actually is a bit more their's than DP/H's. I kinda feel that really, although I know is his child as much of mine, that is a little bit more mine, if you know what I mean. Am a bit possessive about it. Not sure I will like having to share her when she comes out.
Am I a loony?

sagitta · 04/12/2007 12:33

But my favourite is Betty

sagitta · 04/12/2007 12:34

Ellie, is that because DP has one already, do you think?

scorpio1 · 04/12/2007 12:38

Ellie you're not a loony, i feel like that every time im pg!

Beryl, mmmm. Betty nicer imho and i didn't laugh!

VictorianSqualor · 04/12/2007 12:39

Lol Ellie, I told DP last night that he had better do as I tell him when the baby is born. I said I know what I'm doing so he better just follow my lead

Yes I think it might be a bit of that. I suppose secretly I feel a bit 'Well that one's yours so this one can be mine'. Another issue for my therapist I think...

Beryl is old fashioned, but like you say, quirky. My new niece is called Mabel and we all thought 'Blimey' at first, but it is really incredibly cute on her and she fits it well. I think Beryl could be that kind of name too, and turn out to be quite sweet. My favourite granny was called Betty, so I like that.

EllieG · 04/12/2007 12:40

LOL - am glad am not alone in that one then!

northfeastmummy · 04/12/2007 12:49

Both Beryl and Betty are great names! I suppose it's like when Harry, George and other names like these started being used again. At first it seemed unusual but now they're actually quite popular.

One of our friends called her wee boy Oscar a couple of years ago and like you EllieG, everyone thought Blimey! at first but very quickly it became really cute.

I also know babies called Hector, Harriet and Martha. It just amazes me how people keep thinking up different names - and I never predict right what people are going to chose.

scorpio1 · 04/12/2007 12:51

i know a child called Myrtle.

VictorianSqualor · 04/12/2007 12:56

I love Harriet, dp doesn't like it though.

Myrtle the turtle

northfeastmummy · 04/12/2007 13:06

Thanks for all your support for my scan on Thursday - I just wish I could get excited about it and not worry about something that hasn't happened.

Sagitta - why would your boss have wanted to sack you? And surely you can't be expected to take a train to Italy when you're 30+ weeks - where are you travelling from?

Some airlines will let you fly as late as 36 weeks if you have a letter from your midwife - but that's assuming all is well and you're fit to fly.

northfeastmummy · 04/12/2007 13:07

Poor Myrtle! How cute ... !?

VictorianSqualor · 04/12/2007 13:11

Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter would put me off, I liked Hermione until J.K.Rowling knicked it.

Ellie - I love Mabel - definitely going to work on DH for that one. Having been thinking about it now, def prefer Betty to Beryl.

I also like Myrtle and Martha, and haven'r read H Potter so thats OK.

Can everyone tell me what their grandparents names are? I love the old ones...

NEM - I am self-employed and do contract work, so was worried boss would stop using me when she found out I was pg as I will obviously need some time off. Plane/ train is fine. What worries me will be walking / standing around all day at 30-plus weeks...

EllieG · 04/12/2007 13:31

Joan, Stewart, Antonio, Betty and Franz/Frank. Think Betty best out of that lot.

northfeastmummy · 04/12/2007 13:31

Ah - I see.

You might find that 30+ weeks isn't as bad as all that. Is this your first? If not, how were you in previous pregnancies at that stage? Not that that matters of course because it can be completely different every time.

With DD I worked up until the Friday, travelled to Glasgow for a rowing event at the weekend (about a 2.5 hour drive from Aberdeen) then went into hospital on the Monday to get induced. The month before I had driven with my dh to London for a rowing event and spent the weekend cycling up and down the tow path coaching the crew I'd been coaching. In the run up I had no expectation that I'd be doing all that - it just felt ok once I got there.

Saying all of that, I was puffed up like a marshmallow and ended up getting a horrible rash (it was the middle of summer) that meant I had to get induced because it was so unbearable. So this time I'm relaxing and looking after myself - and stopping work at least a month before my due date.

EllieG · 04/12/2007 13:34

Me too! I finish work March 4th and can't WAIT!!! I want to finish now. Mind you, if I don't get on with some work the decision will be made for me. It's not been a productive week so far. I hate paperwork.

northfeastmummy · 04/12/2007 13:37

We haven't thought of many names yet - last time we didn't decide until the weekend before DD was born but it was a big debate up to that point. I think it'll be easier once we know what gender we're having - at least that narrows things down a bit.

Some names we're considering - Faith, Jessica, Beth, Jude, Violet, Hope for a girl or Oliver, Jacob, Luke, Sam, Dan, Max for a boy.

northfeastmummy · 04/12/2007 13:39

Ugh tell me about it. I want to go home now. I ate too much at lunchtime and now I'm really sleepy .

egyptianprincess · 04/12/2007 13:40

hi everyone
glad to hear you're all well. I had my 2nd scan on Friday and it still looks like a girl! Is it standard sonographer policy to say that they can only be 80% sure of the sex because that's why they said at both first and second scan. Wondering if they actually have more certainty that that and whether they just want to protect themselves for the rare occasions when they do get it wrong.
Sagitta- I really like Beryl- its very cute. Isnt there a writer called Beryl bainbridge? Mabel is also fab. I think we are now decided on Maya but who knows, maybe when we meet her she'll end up being something else entirely.

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 04/12/2007 13:41

Sagitta - grandparents names Aubrey, Betsy, Emily & William. Elspeth (MILs name) is nice as are Violet & Maggie (a couple of DHs Aunties names). DH used to call my Grandad Strawberry - not within earshot though

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 04/12/2007 13:44

egyptianprincess - hi, & congrats on the scan I think some sonographer's like to hedge their bets, just in case as some people would no doubt try & sue! Our gynae was completely convinced at our scan - even I could see his "wiggly bits" so no doubt there

northfeastmummy · 04/12/2007 13:50

Oh I love Aubrey and Betsy!!

paranoidmummy · 04/12/2007 13:51
