Hiya ladies,
Thought I'd start the new thread, hope you like the title! Best I could come up with I'm afraid!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mymissus · 03/01/2008 16:04

Just been to my midwife - all seems well with heartbeat and bloodpressure etc and its head is down - please let it stay that way. However, I have got one massive ankle and foot and one normal sized one - makes trying to find shoes to wear interesting!

Have absolutely no energy to do anything now. Work have asked me to go in tomorrow to do some stuff, which is good on the one hand (self employed so will have another couple of days wages) but cannot get rid of this hacking cough - poor LO must have a banging headache with me spluttering away most of the day!!

Off to put my elephant foot up for 10 mins or so...

Lucyand2 · 03/01/2008 16:19

There are a few good things at Mothercare at the moment, I'm getting my maclaren double buggy from there as it's £170 rather than the usual £200 something. I tried it out last week and loved it! The sale at john lewis is okay, saw a lovely moses basket in there for £25 which I was trying to convince myself I could give to MIL for her to keep. I talked myself out of it though!
I'm finally getting my bags packed for hospital and I'm feeling quite positive about being ready in time! My new tiny cloth nappies are all washed and ready, now I just need to get DD into a bed so I can adapt her cot for next to my bed (no more getting up in the night for me!)

violeta · 03/01/2008 16:50

Hi all, and happy new year!

Am also getting organised (ish!). It's all become much more real now that it's next month!!! (aaagh!) Pram ordered. Mum and Dad have car seat for their car. Got most of the baby stuff we need, though I keep on looking through catalogues and making more lists... And the list for the hospital bag as well of course... (I do love making lists!) Now onto sorting out wardrobe to make room for all the baby stuff currently piled up on one shelf at the bottom with lots of plastic bags... Nesting has set in, I feel!

Thanks for tip on cheapie moses basket in the sale, Lucyand2; someone offered to lend us one she didn't use and I'm a bit embarrassed to chase it up myself!

I know what you all mean about tiredness. Everything feels much more effort now I'm back at work than it did before Xmas. I'm going to change my hours a little from next week to avoid morning rush hour on the tube cos it's hellish and I'm so paranoid about other people dashing around. Will I get to 37 weeks before going on maternity leave is the question!

Bessie123 · 03/01/2008 16:55

Yay, DP just bought changing/bathing station egg linked to. We have all the essentials now except a cot and a travel cot, assuming John Lewis ever stops being rubbish and contacts me about all the stuff I've ordered.

You would think JL could at least send an email or phone if the things you order turn out not to be in stock (of course, they don't tell you at the time you order them). And if the nursery gift list department would ever answer the phone, that would be great, too. £1250 and they are incommunicado

Gill79 · 03/01/2008 18:40

Has taken me AGES to catch up. There is a certain sense of panic growing on here! I am most panicked about not having learnt how to breathe and relax, how ironic. Anyone suggest anything? Am a very unrelaxed person, my one trip to a pregnancy yoga class made me inexplicably really really angry... not a good sign.

Know it is ancient news but thanks whoever posted the instructions for perineal massage. How amusing to think any woman could get her thumbs up there, let alone a pregnant one! Have definitely decided NOT to try it. Also thanks for the breast feeding videos. Have also been doing a bit of homework: and also - "An amazingly gentle birth video" is quite good cause it shows what the contractions are like rather than just the last 20 seconds. There's lots of rubbish americam sentimental stuff as well though all for some reason missing the crucial moment!

Beansprout and other Londoners - am well up for meeting up, innit. Am still nice and mobile so can travel, and on mat leave as of the 14th Jan.

Bad luck to those who had less than perfect xmas and NYs. We had quite a sad xmas cause grandpa died on the 23rd. Not unexpectedly, and I'm sure he'd had enough of life a long time ago but it was really sad the way it happened - he was taken into hospital with the after effects of a fall, and once he was in there the hospital was infected with the winter vomiting virus, which he eventually caught and which was the end of him, but they weren't allowed any visitors the whole time he was in there, so for the last two weeks of his life had no-one to visit.

So a bit of a quiet christmas but had a lovely time over new year driving round scotland and meeting up with so many old friends not seen for ages. Also DP's 30th was on NYE so he has now truly summited the hill and rushing down the other side towards fatherhood and fat (only kidding he is gorgeous and I've updated my profile pics to show him off, as well as my bump. Note to self stick to slimming colours from now on

Gill79 · 03/01/2008 18:42

ha ha just realised the obvious mistake on my photo captions - "almost 35 weeks" and "35 weeks" taken about a minute apart!

samsmam · 03/01/2008 21:25

Hi all,
Not posted on here for a while.
DP bought me a new laptop for Christmas so now I can sit in the comfort of bed and tap away at the keys!

Everyone seems to be getting organised. I finally today sorted out DD1's suitcase of newborn and 0-3 clothes and washed them AGAIN!
I am feeling really uncomfortable all of a sudden. Think baby has a foot lodged under my rib, don't remember feeling that first time round.

Its surprising how because I had no complications first time round how you hardly ever see anyone MW or medically wise. Last time I saw someone was at 26 weeks, next time is in two weeks at 34 weeks. Is that sounding right?

Anyone with other LO's at what age did you put in to beds? I don't really want to pay out for another cot (I will a mattress) but DD1 is only 15 months.

Think the idea of keeping updated with offers is a great idea.

Sorry for long post I can see this laptop will make me chat for ages!

SallyInYorkshire · 03/01/2008 21:42

Happy New Year everyone! its good to hear how you are all getting on.

Thanks for the tip re offers at Tesco - will pop down there tomorrow, I need some baby bottles.

oops now got to go - am being kicked in the groin from the inside ( a very peculiar feeling!)

xxx

tyaca · 03/01/2008 22:29

a RL natter bean? i'm not sure i remember how .... def up for a london based meet up.

and i wont have to stop myself refering to DH as "DH" when talking ...

ayrshirelolo · 03/01/2008 22:51

Ummmm.... hello!!!! Just thought i'd pop in and introduce myself if that's ok? I'm due on 31st Jan, and usually post on Jan thread but babies keep arriving on that thread and have realised i'll be "lolo no mates" in another couple of weeks! Do you mind if i crash in here from time to time? thanks!

ladlemonke · 03/01/2008 22:59

Evenin' an HappyNooYear!

Been popping by from time to time to check up on you all, though often i get pangs of envy at your still-pregnant discomforts (i know that will seem awfy weird to those of you who are suffering!). I miss those kicks, and the bump that i didn't appreciate when i had it!

The girls are both doing well so far, though its still a slow journey, and coming home and settling into a proper routine is a long way off.
Sorry i wasn't able to thank you all individually for your warm wishes and kind words (.....you know who you are....so thank-you thank-you) it really helped to know that a bunch of people all over the country were rooting for us.

I felt compelled to post after reading your post pobletsmum :

BEWARE the tommee tippee freedom breast pump!

We got this pump for 25knicker from mothercare without having the chance to do much research, and i must say (cos there are absolutely no warnings or info on/in the box) that this pump is designed for those ladies with the most daintiest sized nipples. If you think thats you, then go for it. After just a couple of times using it, I got nipple-blisters (not a medical term, i reckon), as well as pain, and the fear about whether i was going to be able to provide milk for my poorly wee girls with sore, mutant boobs. And its not that i'm particularly generously proportioned in that region. The tube part that pulls your nipple back and forth is 18mm in diameter, which, compared to the 24mm equivalent bit on the medela pump we got to replace it is flippin tiny! (btw, pumping makes your nipples swell up, in case you weren't aware).

Just felt i should warn youz!
The other good things about the medela range are that they make different sized breast shields and all the parts are widely available separately so that you can replace bits or add to your kit. This does not seem to be the case with other makes.

Oh, and on the hospital bag packing theme; Lansinoh lanolin is farkin fabulous! (Sorted out the aforementioned mutant nipples lovely).

And ear plugs - i found them invaluable, although i didn't have my babies sleeping next to me......and my room was in the noisiest bit of the ward where the nurses gossiped and cackled throughout the night...so i guess thy're not so handy if you actually need to listen out for your LO!

Enjoy all your bargain shoppings.....and take care xx

HATCHED!:

bluedomino · 04/01/2008 00:27

Hi all, good to here everyone is hanging in there. I've started on my hospital bag now as I've been getting some really strong twinges and pains, even though I'm not due until 20 Feb, but c-section on 14 Feb.
I had to go to the Bank yesterday, but couldn't walk back to the car as BHs were so strong, Mum with me but doesn't drive so we had to take a couple of steps then stop and clutch my belly. It was so embarrasing, I'm now frightened to go anywhere.
Having real problems walking more than a few steps, got SPD anyway but it feels like baby is going to fall out any moment and DD has decided to be clingy for the first time in her life and wants to be picked up.

Also this may be TMI but does anyone have really bad bearing down pains when they are trying to have a wee? I'm worried I've got a UTI as I'm not finishing my wee because I have to get off the toilet quick because its too painful sitting on the toilet. My stitches feel like they are going to split!

beansprout · 04/01/2008 02:42

Blue - that sounds really miserable. I'm sure this baby is now very engaged (will find out in a few hours at my growth scan), but that's not the same as the discomfort you are describing. I was v late with ds and refused to be housebound. I took the view that if the worst happened (e.g. waters broke at the tube station or somesuch), that being incredibly pregnant would obviously attract some sort of attention and I would be looked after if need be. Even with ds in tow, I still have great faith in paramedics and mobile phones!!

Lolo - you are very welcome to our thread!! I think our post-natal thread is going to span at least 3 months (and my lo is likely to arrive in January anyway!!)

Ladle - fab to hear from you! Glad things are progressing well. I would also vote for the Medela breast bump. The last thing you need is something that makes your nips feel worse!!

Anyone else up for a London town meet up?

As you can see from the time of this post, I'm having another bad night.....

morningglory · 04/01/2008 06:29

Have not posted in a very long time, and it's been great to catch up with all of the news. I have not forgotten emailing the GF schedules, just have been lazy about getting the external hard drive that it was saved on. Now have it as I've been stressfully nesting over the holidays, so it will go out later today to those who wanted it.

Can't believe I'm 33/34weeks! I'm reasonably confident that I'm going to be induced at 38 weeks (Feb 4), but have to have the Consultant sign off after a 36 week cervical check. BB is definitely interfering with my sleep (what is he doing in there? Calastenics?), as well as DS1 coming into my bed at 2 am, and DH coming into bed at 4am (falls asleep in front of telly, and waddles into bedroom at 4am...). I end up being so fed up at being unable to get back to sleep, that I just get up at 5am. Beansprout, I know exactly how you are feeling!

Can't make up for sleep during the day as DS is on school hols and nanny/housekeeper disappeared off the face of this earth. Thank goodness I've found another one, but she can't start until the week before I'm going to be induced. Ah well, good practice for after the baby is born.

To make it worse, I can't ever seem to be comfortable! It's now a choice between eating or breathing....Everytime I have a normal meal, I have to run to lie down on my side, or else I can't breath! I really don't remember it being so bad with DS1...or perhaps it is late 3rd trimester amnesia.

I'm definitely up for a London meet-up. It would be great to put faces to names, and have a whinge together.

Oh, anyone who is in London, Daisy and Tom on the Kings Road is closing down and is selling everything for 1/3 off normal price. You need to get there quick, as I'm not certain when the sale started, and I was there yesterday, and things were going quickly. They still have Bugaboos, Stokkes, nursery toys, bottles, bedding, etc.

Sorry for all the complaining. I'm otherwise excited and counting down the time.

ExpectingKat · 04/01/2008 07:12

Hi
Yeh egg have looked at my notes nothing about weights, got another scan a wk on monday so think I will ask them then. As I shall be 26wks then I'm hopin they will give me a plan of what they want to do. I was at midwife yesterday and she said they will so prayin thats what will happen, can't imagine how I am going to keep going with the pain I'm in. I find it so frustrating when the docter or midwife ask how are you doing I say in agony then they put all well in your notes as if I havn't even said anything!
I hope every think goes well for miniandme and twins sends my best thoughts.
I think babies r us have got some good offers on at the mo and when I went there and got my got cotbed I was given some vouchers so ended up gettin £25 of it aswell. but I did find more offers when I was at the store than what seemed to be on the website!

ExpectingKat · 04/01/2008 07:13

sorry ment to put 36wks not 26 I blame the pregnancy lol

CountTo10 · 04/01/2008 09:06

Happy New Year everyone!!

No snow here which is slightly disppointing now I'm off work!!

Body feeling really gripey at the moment, lots of crampy pains and back ache and just oddness which I remember in the weeks leading up to having ds so I think my body is limbering up in anticipation. Am off to London tonight to see the Nutcracker with my mum. Just hope that bubs doesn't get excited and decide to make an early appearance!!

Dp is finally cottoning onto the fact that this really is just around the corner!! He has suddenley started doing the jobs I've been telling him to do for months and sort things out at work. He's finishing the painting in the nursery tonight and carpet goes in next week then I can start all the washing. We bought a change table from Ikea last time for £16 which then doubled up as storage when ds was too big and it's great - really sturdy. Then we've just got a chest of draws and wardrobe. Just need to do a few bits for hospital bag so now just waiting!!! I'm so desperate now to know what colour I'm having!!!!

Bessie123 · 04/01/2008 10:14

Gill - so sorry to hear about your Grandpa. Hope you are ok

Samsmam - have you thought about getting a cot bed? Then your 15 m o can sleep in the cot for a few months longer and transfer to a bed and you will still have a cot for baby.

Beansprout - yes, central london would be good for me.

Jo9977 · 04/01/2008 12:29

Sorry to hear about your Grandad Gill

Welcome lolo!

beansprout · 04/01/2008 13:36

Have just come back from the hospital. Baby is already over 7lb 8oz big (am 36 weeks) and after a discussion I now have a c=section booked for 23rd January. Yikes!!

manamana · 04/01/2008 13:37

morning all.
really sad to hear what happened to your grandad Gill.
welcome lolo. It is a bizarre side of this babmaking business how spread out 'due in feb' can turn out to be.
ladle - lovely to hear from you, hadn't had a chance to look you up and look at the pics but have just done now - they are sooooo gorgeous and tiny, reminds me of when my friends ds was was born and i went to visit and stroke him in his incubator - they are so precious. Glad to hear expressing is going ok now you have ditched the nipple torture device! I have the avent one from last time which was ok but i never really got the hang of expressing - here's hoping 2nd time lucky.
New mattresses for cot and carrycot/pram arrived this morning - woo-hoo! Am booked in for hospital tour this saturday (Ginger - have you one the tour of st richards yet?) AND have appt with consultant on monday to get date for cs so really feels like we're making progress!
However, am still freaked out by the idea of having other baby . Just can't get over the idea that I've already got one, v silly i know...
Anyway, on a more miserable note things are not improving with my mother. Hed from my brother yesterday that the reason behind her outburst was that my dh was lazy 'b**ard' for the 3 days we were there and she has had enough of putting us first! Interesting. Dh wouldn't win any awards for helping out but she didn't ask him to do anything and I think that as he works v hard and has spent the last couple of months looking afer me & ds and redecorating he deserves a bit of a rest. She works 2 half days a week and is only in her 50's so not exactly an OAP yet! Just feel very sad that she can't see that I am in need of support at moment and don't need any more stress.

Gill79 · 04/01/2008 14:28

Beansprout!! That is big.......exciting though!

Thanks for the thoughts guys.

Anyone else get a stabbing pain, feels like it's in the cervix? (bit like a knitting needle going up there ) Usually get it when I'm walking and assuming it's the head bouncing up and down but I've had it a while and head not engaged at the last check-up.

Sounds like your mum's got some "issues" at the moment mana - I'm sure it will all be forgotten once the baby arrives but very bad timing on her part - not very thoughtful.

Bessie123 · 04/01/2008 14:32

Manamana - Christmas can be a v stressful time for families. Your mum probably had a lot to do if she was cooking, clearing up etc over christmas and probably felt a bit irritated that your dp wasn't helping out; it sounds like a little spat that will blow over in time..?
