Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

OP posts:

Gosh, that last bit sounded distinctly unhelpful. Sorry

skidoodle · 09/01/2008 17:32

be impressed when I've actually managed it. So far it's no more than vague ignorant optimism on my part

Hello Avonsbarksdale and Ninja! Congratulations Kirst! [Smile]

Thanks Derah for suggesting the nappy section - I hadn't noticed it before. Still can't decide which nappies to get though!

Glad I'm not the only one counting the days till mat leave - last day jan 31st for me (due march 3rd). Had a snotty letter from headmaster today (I'm a teacher) asking me to say if i will be back in Sept and will I be full or part time. He says he knows I'm not legally obliged to answer 'just yet' but would I do so by friday! He is a bully but even so I am shocked. I'm going to seek advice before replying!

JFly · 09/01/2008 21:24

Piggyp I would just ignore him. He can't ask you those kind of questions. Or, tell him you'll let him know when you are obliged to. Isn't it 28 days prior to your intended return, or something like that? Anyway, they should know better - the nerve!

Just stumbled across these re-useable nappies available in the States - gdiapers. Look very slimline and have compostable/flushable inserts. Apparently are based on the Aussie Weenees, which are available in the UK. The gdiapers look a bit more stylish, fasten with velcro and have cuter colours, but...Weenees are easier to get. Think I may send for a trial pack. DH would be thrilled if we composted - his compost bin is very precious to him.

Congratulations to the first March Mum's so far!!! How scary - this is all really REALLY happening now!!!

My bump is humungous all of a sudden. I was looking at my pregnancy book (which seems to lie by my bed gathering dust since I am too scared to really read the final few weeks sections.... especially the graphic photos!!!) thinking how my bump was no where near as big as the weekly naked woman in the pictures... Yeah yeah, gave it 3 days and my bump had itchily and painfully s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d to massive proportions. Now I'm back at work I have to climb 15 minutes up a steep hill to the bus stop where I risk life and limb with the school kids to get the bus 10 mins to the train station followed by a usually standing (thanks to the rail company for hiking up prices but STILL putting 2 carriages on for the rush hour express train journeys into the city!!!) and another 15 minute walk uphill to the office where I work. Phew... AND my total man of a boss (my boss is a "woman" in the loosest of terms) gave me a telling off for my timekeeping (I was 2 mins late thanks to the snow and the gale force winds that made EVERYONE ELSE late too). Just what you need at 31 weeks preggers.

Also, I have been having nasty clicking clunking noises when I wake up in the middle of the night or if I have been lying down for too long... From my "pelvic bones" I suppose you could say. Ouch. The LO seems to spend a lot of time punching this area fairly frequently. Joy of joys.

Has anyone else been having the sensation of the baby sometime lying across the ways? Painful! It's as if it turns on it's side or kinda diagonally so the bum is on the top left and head kind of bottom right and it's back bone across your belly? It's only happened a couple of times in the past week as LO seems to now be full force heading down head first so both my bladder and stomach are pressed simultaneously!!!

Anyway, I am off on mat leave 2 weeks on FRI and I CAN NOT WAIT!!! Needless to say I still aint heard a peep from HR with regard to my MATB1 form and whatever else I need to go claim Maternity Allowance. Something to do with "business partner" signature etc. Ah dear.

Hope everyone else is not too uncomfortable just now. Does the bump just keep exponentially growing for the next 9 weeks or does it slow down at all any time soon? I dont think I can afford the Bio Oil!!!! Itch itch itch....

derah · 09/01/2008 22:14

I'm in pain this evening.... nasty cramps down below. It feels like period pains, but whenever I've had this before it turned out to be wind (Sorry if TMI!!!!), and the pain kinda moves "round the back" after a few minutes, to be released as a lovely giant fart. Tonight though it's been going on for hours and no movement round the back or windy release! Very annoying. Not sure what it is or why, but I hope it's gone by tomorrow or I might start to get worried.

Hmmm, I need to get to bed.... yawn....

skidoodle · 09/01/2008 22:16

piggyp I would not just ignore my boss if they were asking about my plans post-maternity leave. Obviously you know him and if he's a bully you need to be careful so a good idea to get advice before talking to him. It's pretty weird that he wrote you a letter - isn't this kind of thing more the stuff of a conversation rather than a letter (even if it weren't snotty)?

Isn't it just normal to tell your employer what your plans are with regard to coming back after maternity leave? I've certainly told mine. Obviously what I've told them isn't binding (in that I still have to give 28 days notice of intention to return) but how are they to plan for my absence if they don't know how long I'm (likely) to be gone for? Is it really cheeky for them to ask?

Anyway, hope you sort it out OK and you have get good advice on how to handle the letter

paranoid1T - I had that "suddenly giant" moment about 3 weeks ago. I can't really tell what way the baby is lying. The doctor couldn't tell where the head was at my appointment earlier this week. I would be afraid the baby had no head but just extra limbs for kicking if I hadn't seen it for myself at the scan.

grrr what a mean boss you have [seems to be a lot of that going around, what with you and piggyp, not to mention glamma]. 2 minutes late? in the SNOWY day? when you're 31 weeks pregnant? That's so unreasonable.

Well at least soon you won't have to even think about it anymore and we'll all be talking about "lateness" in terms of days and even weeks and NEVER minutes

skidoodle · 09/01/2008 22:18

LOL @ derah's lovely giant fart . You're making me wish for one too.

hope you get some relief soon

fitnforty · 09/01/2008 22:45

our HR dept still haven't confirmed my t&cs ie what they'll pay when i'm off and when i go back! They've only had since mid November...chased them again today and told i'll have a letter by Friday confirming everything .Then i won't be surprised to see they've screwed up and plan to underpay me since they're so incompetent.

Anyway, from what i understand, they automatically have to assume you're taking the full 12 months you're entitled to unless you advise of an earlier return date. And you now have to give 2 months rather than 1 month's notice of a change to your anticipated return. As I'm planning to go back start of Oct, I've told them that already as the chances of me remembering by early august to write confirming the "change" is most unlikely!

Only another 2 days of auditors in the office, feeling very frazzled , but blood pressure still staying down which is good. Had a bit of a freakout when i looked at the predicted weight chart in my notes...at 30 wks i was measuring 32, but now back in range again and at the top end...which translates to a near 10lb-er!!! Luckily the m/w said the size depends a lot on how much fluid you have on the day as it can change from day to day - though i think i've just ballooned since Monday!

Oh, have to turn the tv off, they're slaughtering ittle calves on bbc3 now, the pigs and the kid goats were bad enough...

fitnforty · 09/01/2008 22:49

ps congratulations Kirst, and how scary is it for the rest of us that our LOs can arrive so early!!!

merryberry · 10/01/2008 08:11

oh congratulations Kirst! How's it going now?

And congratulations Glammama. still reckon you should sue the bnggers for stress!

merryberry · 10/01/2008 08:18

PLEASE COME HERE TO OUR NEW THREAD

Just noticed the last one was over 900 posts! No wonder I can't get you on my mobile!

gingercat12 · 10/01/2008 15:52

Hayls LOL at your bottom-slapping

I knew my LO was only putting the whole breech-thing on for the lovely MW. It was so uncomfortable for me that I knew it must be tight for him. So after 24 hours he flipped back to head down. Naughty little boy
