Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

As a mumsnet virgin can I add my tuppence worth and ask a question?

I read Dr gowri Motha's book the Gentle Birth and bought her visualisation CDs, listened to it for the first time last night and fell asleep. So was very relaxing, but not sure how much self-hypnosis counts if you sleep through it! (Couldn't bear the thought of her diet though)

Indigestion is my constant companion, but pineapple does help, as do chalky tablets!

My question, (and I know it's going to be contentious): How much weight have people put on? I have surprised myself with how much this is bothering me , I always thought when I had children I'd enjoy being able to eat what i like, but alas no, my main daily exercise is getting on and off the scales. Which, by the way, say I have put on 8lbs.

ClaphamLauren · 22/11/2007 14:01

I've put on 7lbs - not sure how, I've been eating like a pig, it should be 70lbs! I thought it was more but according to my midwife (I like her scales) it's not.

surprisedandexcitedmum · 22/11/2007 14:15

Ok, I feel like I am being piggy too; I fret about weight but don't stop eating. Must be the eat-what-you-like-you're-pregnant-devil battling with the your-bum-is-going-to-grow-and-never-shrink-angel (or do I have the angel and devil around the wrong way).

Glad my weight gain isn't too monstrous - I haven't seen a midwife yet so she can't confirm or deny my weight.

MarchMum · 22/11/2007 14:17

CL - I am planning to start yoga at sitaram as well - next Monday at the 5:30 session is the plan!

e14Mum - you said something a couple of posts ago about the peanut debate - where did you end up? I stopped eating them but now do bc I gave up - did you find any conclusive information??

Definately itchy over here - my legs are a mess of bumps and red and imjin, I too love being pregnant! (so 2nd trimester of us - we won't being saying that in 8 weeks) :.)

e14mum · 22/11/2007 14:17

Welcome s&em!
According to my books, a few weeks ago my weight gain range was about 12-15lbs (21 ish weeks?) and I had just gone above the next stone marking on the scales, so figure I'm on track.
Doup, it is me who whinges about sore hips a lot! Tops of my thighs. I feel like a granny these days- I'm only 28!

e14mum · 22/11/2007 14:22

MM- about the peanut debate, I searched on Pubmed and found some articles- nothing conclusive either way, really. I will try to remember to bring them to the meet up if you fancy wading through them!
ps. I am eating peanuts

ClaphamLauren · 22/11/2007 14:26

See you there MarchMum! We'll have to perfect a secret signal so we recognise eachother

preggersagain · 22/11/2007 14:44

ok footmuffs!

Right you need a split legged one for the pushchair seat either the stokke one or O-Baby do them in black, pink and soon brown. Very good- i used an o-baby in my xplory. PSSST- i have them in stock

For the carrycot it depends what colour you went for- i personally would get the sleeping bag if it was a colourway with the multi-spot lining, if it is the beige or grey i wouldn't bother and just use blankets!

Brazilianmum · 22/11/2007 14:56

Thanks Preggers. So you think the baby carrier is soft enough without the sleeping bag? In my first preg brain I though you needed to have the sleeping bag. I saw Stokke do the sleeping bags in warm or light but they grown out of it so quickly.

I am also on the lookout for bamboo blankets. I saw some on Amazon but they are just plain. Anyone know a company that does bamboo blankets?

doup76 · 22/11/2007 15:00

Weight gain? Are you ladies kidding me? I have put on just over a stone! Am 24 weeks and clearly quite a fatty!

Also, can I just say, if it hadn't been for peanut butter on toast I think my morning sickness would have been fatal! Hoping I haven't condemned my baby to a lifetime of allergies....
On the subject of food, what is is consensus on smoked salmon? I haven't eaten any but friends with babies say they did eat it when pregnant....

e14mum - I felt really tense in the hip area but am now much better thanks to my pilates teacher. She got me to lie down on some spikey balls!!!!! I know how that sounds but they were these amazing little rubber balls which I placed under my bum cheeks and just lay there for about 10 mins. Somehow it helped all the insides of my hips relax and I felt much better.....

preggersagain · 22/11/2007 15:01

you could always get a spare mattress for it if you felt it wasn't soft enough- still wouldn't come to 70 quid having said that i have just seen that it is the turquoise- that means it is the sleeping bag with the multi-spots, so personally i wouldn't be able to resist

if you wanted the stokke ones you could lay heavy hints to wealthy family members

Brazilianmum · 22/11/2007 15:14

It's about £45 in the US, so I may ask my brother to send it to me. He was going to send me a baby monitor, but maybe I'll ask for something else.

PurlyQueen · 22/11/2007 16:15

I wish I had just put on 7lbs. I have easily gained more than a stone - I am too embarrassed to say how much more than a stone

monthlymayhem · 22/11/2007 16:22

I haven't been avoiding peanuts, although haven't particularly been eating them either - suspect around Christmas I'll be wolfing them down. I think you just have to be careful if you have a history of allergies in you family.

On the weight front I've put on about 7lbs from my pre-preg weight, however I did lose about 6 lbs in the first 12 weeks (ooops that'll be the wine factor then!) so have put on about a stone from since then iyswim..

Is anyone else finding that they're being ultra clumsy? I seem to be dropping, bumping, breaking etc everything in sight!

Any scan news from Holidayqueen yet?

glammama · 22/11/2007 16:23

Purlyqueen I too have put on a touch over 7lb! Didn't realise the baby was residing in my thighs, or my upper arms, or my arse, or my (now) third chin.
Btw, I've been eating peanuts merrily throughout this pregnancy, and smoked salmon, and deli stuff and prepared salads (I wash the bagged stuff). Just not been eating brie, pate or drinking alcohol. I've avoided the latter due to my firmly held belief that alcohol's only there to make me pissed, so if I can't have a whole bottle of wine I'll have a cup of tea instead. I didn't drink often before so I'm not really missing it. Missing brie though

preggersagain · 22/11/2007 16:26

i'm having twins so i can use that excuse for excessive weight gain but between my booking and my 16week check i hadn't put on a thing! Probably made up for it since!

timmyinatizzy · 22/11/2007 16:56

I have only put on between 5 and 7lbs. And that is only in the last couple of weeks. My bump has really started to stick out now.

Doup - I've been eating smoked salmon, thought that was ok? But I must confess I did have a brie and crispy bacon toasted bap today. I've been resisting since I found out about Junior in June and couldn't hold out much longer. I figured that Junior is developed now and if they say you can have alcohol I couldn't see the harm in a small bit of brie.

Brazilianmum · 22/11/2007 16:59

I've been craving sushi and a Wasabi opened near my work, all new and shining. So unfair.

e14mum · 22/11/2007 17:09

Eat the veggie-only sushi Brazillianmum! i thought that was ok? Not as exciting maybe...

So doup, if I sleep with these "spiky balls" under my bum then, will my sore hips go away?

Seriously, all the books I've read say over a stone by now is normal. We're well over halfway!

imjin100 · 22/11/2007 17:13

weight gain.....ladies, ladies enough already- surely scales are banned when pregnant -
that's what I've told myself anyway! Personally I have put on 15 stone in the boob area - or so it feels like! If it's twins do your boobs grow even bigger - i'd be in big trouble!!!!
as for food, at the end of the day does any of it really matter, I can't believe my mother, or grandmother paid the slightest bit of attention so my view is a little bit of what you fancy is good for you! My problem is the 'little bit' thing...my moderation button was switched off at birth.
Where is HQ.....?

glammama · 22/11/2007 17:15

I really want some smoked salmon now!!!!!!!!!! Think I'll have to settle for either a cheese toastie or a bowl of weetabix. Seriously, which one shall I have? My indecision is getting beyond a joke.

glammama · 22/11/2007 17:16

what time was her scan? Anyone know? And haven't heard from Derah recently either, have we?

e14mum · 22/11/2007 17:16

that depends- is the weetabix with hot milk? Otherwise, cheese toastie.

ClaphamLauren · 22/11/2007 17:17

Perhaps HQ is out with her dp celebrating! That's what I did after our scan

I think I have put on less than a stone because a) I was about 10lbs overweight before pregnancy
b) I used to drink about a million bottles of wine a week! Hence, I lost weight when I stopped

glammama · 22/11/2007 17:18

e14mum, weetabix with cold milk but nuked in the microwave. Had it for breakfast but I think I want it again.
