Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

Glammama - sounds perfect!!! This LO must wait until 40 weeks, as my neice is still sleeping in her Moses basket which is on the Isle of Wight and needs recovering as I don't want purple chiffon and silver stars!
I suppose the pram arrives soon - perhaps I should spend £20 on the contingency stand for carry cot?!

Listen to us all urgent (I hadn't thought about it being less than 6 weeks until full term) I bet we'll be twiddling our thumbs desperately trying to get them out at 41 / 42 weeks!

preggersagain · 04/01/2008 12:57

at least one of us is VERY glad i was uber-organised!!!! as long as you've got a car seat to get them home, somewhere to sleep, something to wear and a pair of norks you'll be fine says the woman who to date has spent ££££ on her babies !!!

spugs · 04/01/2008 12:58

holiday - you can get room thermometers for your room, i thought about 18 deg is right. my room never stays that warm at night but you can always add extra blankets during the night if you need to. better for baby to be slightly cool then hot. mw and hv will be able to give you lots of advise. with my first i think i must have checked her every 5 mins and used to lie there listening to her breathe you do calm down (a bit) eventually.

Glammama · 04/01/2008 13:05

I don't have a car seat as we don't have a car. Even if I did get a car seat in time this LO is not going to come home in one of the jalopies passing for minicabs round here. We're walking home from the hospital.

Which isn't that bad really as I only live 500 yards away.

My current obsession is how do I get there once I go into labour? I'm thinking I'll walk (albeit slowly). DP is muttering about getting his mother's mobility scooter down from St Albans. And he's serious!!!

piggyp · 04/01/2008 13:06

Hello Kirst!
Yikes!! I didn't know 37 weeks counted as full term! That's 5 1/2 weeks for me!!! Glad i'm sitting down.
Been to be baby shop today to do 'research'. V nice lady advising me said I didn't need to buy much till the baby is born. So far have car seat, crib, buggy, bath thing, strappy sling thing. What else is vital in case of early arrival?
Still can't decide on which nappies to use! It is kind of scary having to change from superstitious 'musn't get anything yet' mode to 'arghh LO may arrive soon!'

JFly · 04/01/2008 13:19

Glam we have the same approach to decorating/diy. I'm still waiting for our banister to be painted 3 years later.

Nursery, what nursery? Ours is currently half study half junk room. DH thinks we have all the time in the world to get it cleared out and ready. He wanted to replace the window and radiator and replaster. Um, when were you planning to do that, then?

Only concerned b/c I want somewhere to put all the baby paraphernalia so that it's not such a chaotic mess with furniture in the hall, etc. I think it will just add to the new baby stress if I don't have a room to put everything in. But, I'm sure we'll get by one way or another.

I'm a planner though, and it's driving me nuts!

piggy I reckon I'll get a few packs of eco-disposable nappies for first few weeks at least. I'm not sure I can cope with new baby and washing nappies. But would love to do reusable eventually.

Kirst2 · 04/01/2008 13:57

Hi again everyone and thanks for the warm welcome!

Glammama, I've come across similar siuation before, someone due to leave at the end of a temp contract. We took advice and paid her all her maternity, since the entitlements are based on length of service at a particular time going back. In her case it ended up meaning she gained redundancy rights and was entitled to the benefits of our redeployment policy. This gave her an advantage over a non-pregnant colleague in the same situation, but there was nothing we could do about that. I suspect Unison will give you the same advice but it might be worth contacting these people: www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/Pages/contactus.aspx if you continue to have problems. A council (even a small district) is large enough to deal with finding the funding. Good luck - let me know how it goes!

Have had a lazy morning as woke to a tiny bit of bleeding this morning, along with the (now normal) drainage of amniotic fluid. It's stopped so am not panicking, as it happened a couple of times in hospital (worse than this as well) and the doctors were prety reassuring. Why does nature send us these worries though!

skidoodle · 04/01/2008 14:03

LOL at glamma going to hospital labouring in a mobility scooter.

Hi all

I'm impressed that so many of you can differentiate the various body parts in your bumps. Mine is just one big solid mass with the occasional "something" poking out momentarily.

welcome kirst, I saw your post on the other thread and was hoping you'd make it over.

I have done absolutely no preparing at all yet. My sister is still preparing our architectural drawings for the new extension we need (that will include a proper bathroom and a new kitchen). We still have no washing machine, no plan for where to go when we need to vacate due to building, no baby equipment at all apart from a towel, a few babygros, and a teddy bear that were all gifts.

I don't know whether I should be panicking or not, but I shan't bother since it's not going to help. We really must get our shit together though. March suddenly seems very near.

I too am 31 weeks today.

turtle23 · 04/01/2008 14:43

Is it too horrid of me to feel smug that I have EVERYTHING ready? By everything I mean up to 1 year as I have been the bargain queen and stocked up.
Glam...If you want I have an old car seat and pram I was given...actually whole travel system, that we are keeping at in-laws for just in case of emergency. You can have it to get baby home and then freecycle it if you like? Have realised that it is silly to keep it as in-laws live 5 minutes away.

tee hee hee!!!!!

you lot need to at least start to think about these things

MumOfBillyTheKid · 04/01/2008 15:13

LOL at visions of mobility scooter with Glam on it goes down the road.... mid contraction veering all over the pavement....

I guess if worst comes to worst, you could get your DP to go to hospital, get a wheelchair and push you down there!

merryberry · 04/01/2008 15:13

THIS is what glammamma needs!

JFly · 04/01/2008 15:14

Hope you have room for one more, preggers, because my baby is going to come live with you.

preggersagain · 04/01/2008 15:19

i'm sure i could squeeze another one in BUT it must be a girl (or a boy who you don't mind being turned into a Graham Norton clone!!) as everything's pink

e14mum · 04/01/2008 17:53

Hello!

My lovely mom is painting the nursery as I type... Have clothes in washing machine and even bought nappies yesterday! Don't feel ready, but feel on my way.

You are all going to laugh at me, but I'll tell you anyway 'cause we're all friends... I've discovered maternity tights! Why haven't I been wearing these for the past 2/3 months!?! Ahh... they're bliss...

turtle and JFly, I'm so with you on baby showers! I really hope my mates in Ontario throw me a virtual one too. My friends here have sort of adopted them, but they just aren't quite the same.

SIL has just found out she's having no4 in September! So our baby is no longer the youngest grandchild in DH's family.

Happy Friday everyone!

turtle23 · 04/01/2008 18:16

Don't want to depress anyone, but have you seen this? so sad
I am very angry with the state of hospitals in this country. It's shocking.

OP posts:
turtle23 · 04/01/2008 18:18

e14...I have 5 pairs of them and I love them. So comfy. Am worried by how tempting the enormous maternity knickers are looking, though.

OP posts:
PurlyQueen · 04/01/2008 19:34

turtle I'm staying away frm maternity knickers until after the birth - I prefer low-rise G-strings from M&S a couple of sizes bigger than I normally wear.

We have been promised a crib/baby bed and pram.

No idea about what to do with the double bed that is still in what will be the nursery. Will probably keep it there so that I can sleep there between night feeds if necessary.

Note to self: must buy car seats soon!

e14mum · 04/01/2008 20:35

oh no... if they're as comfy as the tights I don't know if I can resist!!

A drying rack full of babygrows and vests- is there anything cuter?

I'm back to work on Monday for 6 (or 5?) weeks. After how I feel this week I don't know how I'm going to cope with this final stretch of work. V envious of all you who are finished already.

Bump has 2 hard lumps- one at 4 o'clock and one at 10. They've been the same for about 3 weeks now. Bit scared as mw thinks 10 is the head and I really hope it turns soon!

surprisedandexcitedmum · 04/01/2008 21:09

e14 mum - i'm still in m&s brazilian knickers in my normal size, they look pretty and fit under bump. But I do have maternity tights!

I'm back at work until end of Jan and the commute is killing me - I too am envious of those already finished!

Good luck all those needing a turn from their LOs!

skidoodle · 05/01/2008 00:42

oh yes I've been in lovely maternity tights for weeks now and I love them.

I've been thinking of maternity knickers too, but my regular pants still fit fine.

I've had 3 days of work this week and I'm pretty tired. I've supposedly got another 8 weeks of work to go and I wonder how I'll cope.

Today was especially tiresome with the snow as walking about was very slow and I was constantly afraid I'd fall. Plus DH was sick so I had to go out to the shop before work to get him some stuff.

merryberry · 05/01/2008 07:59

glam! getting to hossie with no car, a thread

turtle23 · 05/01/2008 08:24

Bye everyone! See you next weekend! Look after those bumps.

OP posts:
Glammama · 05/01/2008 09:52

Thank you merryberry for the thread. I guess I was under the impression that it would be a bit pointless getting a taxi for a (non-labour) 5 min walk. The distance is the same as walking from John Lewis to Debenhams on Oxford Street.
But who was I kidding?

And if the taxi idea doesn't work, I'll send DP to get me a wheelchair and I can gain some wry amusement from hearing him pant and strain trying to shift my bulk up the road. And then I can say, now try doing that with a cantalopue pressing against your pelvic floor darling.........

merryberry · 05/01/2008 10:09

Ds1 was playing with a spoon and water this am. he brought it over, hauled up my top and inserted into my belly button. 'Feed baby'

I can't tell you how happy that made me: he understands about a baby being in there, and he is thinking constructively about it. Wow.
