Not very original, but the thread WAS becoming ridiculously big.

OP posts:

preggersagain · 23/11/2007 10:04

congrats hq- did you think it was a boy? i can't remember now.

you lot were chatty last night, all conversations about weight gain need to be stopped NOW!!! some of us resemble houses already (i know i do )

There's got to be some perks to being preggers- like stuffing your face with no-one looking over your shoulder saying- oooh that'll go straight on your hips!

get fat and be happy! Thats my motto- i love being pregnant for the sheer fact that i can inhale a pack of mince pies and no-one thinks anything of it

HolidaysQueen · 23/11/2007 10:14

Preggers - Both of us have always said that we don't care what kids we have in what order so long as one of them ends up being a girl (DH in particular incredibly keen to have a daughter), so we were kind of hoping for a little girl first time round just to know that we have one if that makes sense. However, we had a boy's name picked really early on, and I think helped us think about him as a real person very early on whereas a girl has always been unnamed. TBH before I got pregnant I thought I'd be really upset if I had a boy first, but actually I've got more excited about a boy as time has gone on. So yesterday we were both just more thrilled that he was healthy and were just "We knew it" when she said he was a boy. And my dad will be thrilled as he will be visiting all the time to teach the baby rugby and cricket (used to coach both!) - although to be fair he would do that with a little girl as well, cos he did it with me!!!

HolidaysQueen · 23/11/2007 10:15

On subject of weight gain, I'm off to get chocolate right now. My little boy has a big tummy that needs filling

preggersagain · 23/11/2007 10:18

go for it- chocolate is VERY good for pregnant ladies

I know what you mean about having a girl- i desperatly wanted a girl first time- got two boys, then i finally got my little girl last year and now i'm having two more!

Have to say my boys can be a nightmare for fighting but girls are soooo bitchy- you can't win either way!

imjin100 · 23/11/2007 10:29

HQ - congratulations - great to hear all is well and a lovely chubby baby boy - what could be better.
Preggersagain - i'm in agreement - we must stop this weight gain/loss chat. Everyone is different and the key is to be happy right now. We're at the best bit, mid way through, scans all ok, bumps growing and keeping us busy but not thumping us in the ribs so we must try to enjoy it. There will be plenty of time for misery later on i have no doubt.
That's my pearl of wisdom - I send you all a healthy happy snack and say it's friday - nearly the weekend and we're all through the scans (aren't we?) so we have lots to celebrate.
bossy imjin slinks back into the corner with her pile of chocolate biscuits to dunk into her hot chocolate!

MerlinsBeard · 23/11/2007 10:49

glammama, its my placenta that is completely covering the opening to the cervix. Unlikely to move in time either, hence scan at 32 weeks rather than 36 as i am more at risk of what they call "torrenial bleeding" as my placenta is also at the front.

We are on a sex ban - not that we were doing that anyway - and also any erm...self stimulation is out as they don't want any contractions to make my placenta misbehave :S scary stuff!

glammama · 23/11/2007 11:09

mumofmonster you are on a complete ban!!! Oh dear. I was under the impression that I was only on a penetration ban but the whole pleasure/contraction thing is a different matter. What do they think is going to happen to your placenta if the earth moves for you?
My placenta is covering my cervix too and like merryberry (was it?) mine is also anterior (major) but I do feel kicks at the front. I'm getting ever so confused. All I can say mumofmonsters is that if anyone has a right to be first at the biscuit barrel, it's you.

feedmenow · 23/11/2007 11:58

Hi everyone. Haven't been around for a while so this is the first time on this new thread! You lot ARE busy!

Mom, go to your GP and get a prescription for gaviscon. I got one just this morning. I know what you mean about constant heartburn as I get it too. But I have to say, I think I would sell a kidney to get the money to buy some if I had to!

Glad I missed most of the weight gain conversation. Quite bizarrly I look like the back of a bus, but I haven't actually put on much weight. No idea how or why! But I have had a weird appetite change in the past week or so. Don't really fancy much, apart from cakes! So am sure I will be piling on the pounds in no time!

Has anyone else here had trouble with headaches and sinuses? Having been congested and headachey for weeks, I finally went to the doc this morning and have ended up with antibiotics for my sinuses, plus I have to have my bloods done to check up on the headaches.

spugs · 23/11/2007 12:59

first person who doesnt know me asked when baby was due today means i must have a proper bump.

i have an anterior placenta aswell though its nice and high.

MerlinsBeard · 23/11/2007 13:50

i have no idea what they think will happen! i googled it ONCE and was terrified by visions of my placenta coming away so i didn't look again!

doup76 · 23/11/2007 14:23

Hi feedmenow - you have just reminded me that my headaches have gone! I had been having them for weeks and now they have disappeared. No idea why I had them... had my blood pressure checked and it was fine. Sinuses also have been a bit blocked and sometimes a bit bloody too..... a read that it is quite common in preganancy but yours sounds worse than normal!

merryberry · 23/11/2007 14:33

i can cautiously take me fingers out of my ears now the weight convo has stopped...

3madboys · 23/11/2007 15:01

ooh a new thread

afternoon all, i have to say i actually havent wieghed myself for ages, i lost weight in the first 16wks but have def put some on now, not loads tho as i can still wear size ten jeans but with an elastic band at the top so my thighs etc are the same size, i do have a bump now and my boobs are looking rather large.

hope all those pesky placentas move out of the way for you ladies.

and i have had the itchiness, but as i have had HORRENDOUSLY itchy hands and feet i have had a blood test to check liver function, all fine but they will re check in four weeks just to be sure.

also the midwife mentioned doing a glucose intolerance test as i have big babies? my bump measures exactly right and actually looks small, but at the 20wk scan baby measured big and apparently it 'palpatates' big? no sugar in my wee or any other symptoms so we are again going to wait 4 wks and then have a think about it.

i think i just have big babies tbh, they have all been 9lb + my mum had large babies too

anyway i am now late for school run so better dash
congrats on those who have had scans and hope everyone is well

gingercat12 · 23/11/2007 15:03

Wow! You are really busy.

I stopped measuring myself when I assumed I went above 1 stone weight gain. It is all on my tummy as well, looking quite weird.

My placenta is also anterior, so it took a while for DH to feel baby kick (and LO is quite shy). At last yesterday he did feel baby move! He was quite shocked at first, and then totally moved. It must be hard for men to imagine it.

surprisedandexcitedmum · 23/11/2007 15:43

Ok feeling guilty for starting weight conversation - just wanted re-assurance really.

Must say am feeling lucky that the only complications I've had so far are things like Carpal Tunnel and SPD all of which my osteo and Pilates teacher seemed to have remedied.

The fairy princess in my tummy seems to be a heffalump until Daddy goes near and then she becomes a shy little butterfly. I can see she is playing with us already.

imjin100 · 23/11/2007 16:14

surprisedandexcited, mine just the same, leaps about until DH comes close and then retires to corner so he thinks I'm making it up - he seems to have magic calming hands - here's hoping his influence continues once it's born and he can take charge of calming situations down!
Feedmeknow I was having terrible headaches and then they went - can't remember what stage you're at (and if I'm honest can't be bothered to check the list...sorry!) but anyay - mine suddenly went but until then I admit i was taking paracetomol Doctor has reassured me it's fine. Am also now taking for my back which is bad. I think headaches down to hormones but if too bad take something - no point suffering in silence and your LO won't mind if you have popped a few gentle pills to ease your own pain.
Marchmum - clumsiness- glad to hear not just me - i'm like butter fingers, ith everything! Lucky I don't have a DC already or there could be an accident!

doup76 · 23/11/2007 17:12

Anyone done anything strangely impulsive?
I just had all my hair chopped off !!!! I now have what I suppose could be described as a 'bob' for the first time in 20 years.....wonder what DH will make of it....

I am also clumsy.... dropped a cup of tea, smashed the mug and everything.

PurlyQueen · 23/11/2007 19:29

Don't worry surprised and excited - the thought was going through everyone's minds .

I have thrown out all 'treats' and am going to step up my exercise routine. Going to the gym was the last thing I felt like doing when I had a cold for two weeks.

Moving swiftly on .... I'm going to have to buy a new coat as my bump means i can't do any of my old ones up!

preggersagain · 24/11/2007 10:07

morning ladies- i am now officially mortified! i was merrily toddling into work this morning complete with ipod playing take that just as i got to the front door of the shop (waving happily at staff who i haven't seen for a few weeks) something (some form of hobgoblin i think) kicked my legs out from under me and i went flying- landed with a considerable thud on that bumpy visually-impared friendly hard stuff that they put on corners/crossing points! Bloody council and right now --bloody blind people

i was wearing my lovely new Isabelle Oliver wraparound dress (now wrecked i might add!) so tried to get up in a vauguely ladylike manner but found difficulty at which point about 20 people all rushed in to help- most, obviously thinking that as i'm pregnant i have no brain, started talking amongst themselves saying things like "how far gone is she?", "oh, looks nearly ready to pop- at least 8 months!"

so other than a damaged dress, a bruised ego and a very sore elbow, i seem to be fine- midwife is coming out at lunchtime to check me over but lo's are squirming nicely and i've checked hb's with the doppler. My arm hurts now though i'm going back home in a bit i think- dh can come and get me, dt's are away at the farm with in-laws and dd is with her godmother today going christmas shopping in shrewsbury so i can relax at home and have a dunk in the hot-tub

glammama · 24/11/2007 10:09

e14mum do you know if you're coming to Canary Wharf yet? I'll be at leaving for there about 1pm as there's a plethora of Christmas kiddy things we have to do I'll check on here until then.

HolidaysQueen · 24/11/2007 10:27

Oh preggers - poor you and your battered elbow/ego Go home and get in that hot tub pronto!

DH and I have just spontaneously decided to go away for the night so we're off to the seaside in Kent and have managed to find a bed for the night in a lovely B&B. I feel ever so glamorous and jetsetting, even if it is only Kent - we never do spontaneous! It's bloody miserable here, so can't be any worse there, but if it is then we made sure our hotel room has a good tv so we can fight over whether we watch Strictly or the X Factor

Hope you all have lovely weekends!

turtle23 · 24/11/2007 11:57

poor you, preggers! Hope you feel better soon.

P.S. are we allowed in hot tubs? Thought that was against the rules?

OP posts:
preggersagain · 24/11/2007 12:12

oh yes i'm allowed in my hot-tub !!! we've turned the temp down to 37 and i limit my time in it to half and hour- works wonders for my back.

The danger period for hot-tubs is up until week 13 where high temperatures can affect the development of the feotus!

Midwife has checked me out and given me the all clear- elbow still very sore but i'll live with that for now. The weather up here is abysmal- so i've decided to get all domesticated, i am baking a fruit loaf which i shall use later to make bread and butter pudding. I'm off out to the shops to get the required elements for christmas puddings and mincemeat- yum!! Delia will envy my skills by the end of today

e14mum · 24/11/2007 12:13

Oh Glammama- you star! DH is out playing tennis and I don't know when he'll be back so prob going to have to give it a miss. Have a great time though!
See you on the 6th?

LO has been kicking me just below the belt (literally) for DAYS now! Is that any better than up in the ribs though?

Preggers, I hope you're feeling better.

A friend of mine who is due in April decided to try out her son's skateboard the other day... surprise surprise, she fell off and now can hardly move her left shoulder, can't drive and is feeling generally ! Perhaps the same hobgoblins responsible for your trip?

surprisedandexcitedmum · 24/11/2007 13:50

PQ,me too trying to be more healthy etc - I did say trying.

As for coats, I too found buttons popping but I refused to splash cash on maternity, but lucky Kate Moss for topshop has a cape this year, so I'm still wearing a non-maternity size 12!
