OP posts:
sabinar · 30/11/2007 10:51

oooh! I can't believe we have someone from our group in labour! eh. this is getting all very real, isn't it! (particularly for Awen I imagine). Thinking of you Awen!

yay! to everyone who is finishing up today.

I have a lovely day ahead, I think. Off to the osteo in a few minutes and then going to visit a friend of mine who had her little baby in October. I haven't had a chance to meet him yet so v much looking forward to it.

Then back home to do some more work... that's not quite so lovely.

Some of my internet shopping is starting to arrive! v exciting. Todays presents included a lambskin comforter, a breastpump (just in case) and some swaddling blankets. Oh, and a door snake, but that wasn't exactly a baby purchase... he's a very cute door snake though and is doing an excellent job of keeping out the draught

hope everyone has a great day!

madmouse · 30/11/2007 10:51

Hi all. One day in London and you lot do a week worth of chat. Not fair!. Hope you are all ok, no time to catch up properly

[shocked] at hearing Awen is popping. How many weeks?

Just come in for my last day at work. Can't wait, have travelled a lot this week and am floored. My train was delayed by an hour, I nearly was asleep on the way in. Oh well, nearly there. Beller, Naetha, who else is finishing today?

Have a good day

xx

Have a good 'un Beller :D

My lunch is back on - the director decided to change the meeting to 2pm

Naetha · 30/11/2007 11:43

Also think LO has definitely engaged - for the last day or so been going to the loo every half hour, only to have a trickle come out - so frustrating!

LuckySalem · 30/11/2007 12:06

Hi everyone,

Fingers crossed for Awen. Hope everything is ok, it's abit early but I'm sure LO will be fine if does decide to make an appearance. Just hope DP gets back in time.

Went to NCT class last night, so unhappy now. We had our tour of the labour ward. It's soooo clinical, there's all these rules. Don't pull the buzzer for too long it's annoying, don't do this don't do that. You will be expected to stay in for 2 days! if labour isn't progressing quick enough (and they have time schedules - apparently between 6 and 20 hours for a first baby) they will start medical interventions which will increase the time you stay in the hospital and will incur the use of stirrups! They don't like not cutting the cord straight away, apparently they monitor you every 15 mins.

I'm bloody scared stiff now and don't know what to do. I wanted out after 6 hours the latest and although technically I can discharge myself I won't know when things are fine and when I should be staying. If that makes sense.

Anyway, enough gabbling. Going to check Awen's thread now.

mixedmama · 30/11/2007 12:34

LS - do they have a birthing unit option. My hosp has both and the birthing unit is much more geared to letting you get on with it... just stay at home as long as possible.

I just got a lovely bunch of flowers and chos from work as well as the offer of a taxi all the way home so i dont have to carry them, and i am only temping here.

LuckySalem · 30/11/2007 12:36

No, nothing. I'm really gonna bug the MW on Weds about having a homebirth now. Otherwise I'm gonna sulk! lol

Heard from Awen yet?

susiemj · 30/11/2007 13:04

Hello you busy ladies,

I guess news of the day is Awen. Here's hoping LO is fine. Can we wet the baby's head online???

Amani- Hope you're still enjoying flicky hair and enjoying your time off. I love that salon feeling!

MrsMc - How could anyone be annoyed with you? . Ican't decide on the baby's room. Suddenly there's loads of things to buy for thenew house. We're hitting that phase when you've lived there for a bit and realised what would make life easier. I am a one for having the money in the bank though, so a bit jittery about it all.

Ninedragons - any news?

Sabinar - Hooray for the new outfit! Hope you feel glam. And fab after the osteopath too. I like the tub bath too, but DH has given it the thumbs down. Don't really see why

Fruitful - Sorry I missed that you were back in hospital. Sorry to hear that. I hope you are getting rest. Have you got some earplugs? Thanks for the tip about both. That's what I was originally going to do , then I thought you weren't supposed to but now I know you can,. Thanks! Nits..ummm..hope they get sorted.

Katy - I think I had that bath too but I played with it for a bit and decided I wouldn't use it. It cost a bomb to send it back as we got it mail order. That's why I asked the question - I don't want to waste any more money!

Naetha - last day yay! Hope you are enjoying your lunch. FAB kitchen - especially the puss cat! and the big hob and fridge. Am . I'm not sure if they're stretch marks or not but I've got lots of little broken veins on hip and boobs. And I've worn maternity bras so carefully! And they're so uncomfortable! I'm very peeved. Sorry about your row with DH. Although I of course like the deed, I am (very secretly) hoping DH will give up now! My belly is SO heavy!

Lolo - hope today is better than yesterday

Beller - last day at work - YAY!
Mixedmama - last day at work YAY!
Madmouse - last day at work - YAY!
We can all obsess about due dates and nurseries at home together now!

Lucky - I got ward panic when I went to see mine too but it's worn off a bit now. Hope you persuade your MW about home birth. Is she amenable?

I'm having yet another relaxing day. Got a mad burst of energy yesterday and am knackered now. I DO have very well-organised cupboards though. Anyone know if you should avoid sandingthings while PG? I've been given a cabinet type thing for BabyB's room but i need to sand and varnish.

I'm sure loads ofpeopl have posted while I've been writing this. Sorry if I've missed you!

Hello to Letsgo, Neuro and Gingeme!

fluffymummy · 30/11/2007 13:11

Hi everyone...gosh it's got busy in here again ...glad to see you're all paying attention !!

Can someone please post a link to Awen's thread, as I'm awful at finding these things?

Awen, if you're checking in ((((hugs)))) and good luck!!!

Naetha, Beller, Madmouse, Mixedmama....I'm so so so , but hope you all have lovely leaving do things and get lots of scrummy pressies

Realised last night that I'm already 32.5 weeks...gulp! ...how on earth did that happen?! Definitely going to stop work a week earlier than previously planned (so Thursday 10th rather than 17th Jan), mainly to give me some time to get my head together and spend some q.time with ds (well, as much as I can manage in an inactive way!), but also cos I'm beginning to suspect I'm not entirely bulletproof and may need a few days 'off' before it all goes mad!!

Love to everyone, sorry I'm doing a lousy job on the catch-ups but am having a totally chaotic day at work so have been struggling to get this post written since 9am!!!

Off to Manchester tonight, hope you all have lovely, relaxing weekends if I don't manage to post again ....hugs and kisses all round, Fluffy xxx

fluffymummy · 30/11/2007 13:14

PS Boo! I knew I'd forgotten something.......

Susie - we used the sink to wash ds for the first 6 weeks or so, much easier as it didn't involve bending down and meant we could hold his head/shoulders/neck the whole time and he felt safe/supported. OK, he didn't love it, but never screamed blue murder either.

When he progressed to the 'big bath' at around 2 months we got a deckchair-type thing (I think John Lewis sell them) which has soft towelling fabric over the frame, for him to lie/sit back on, which is much more comfortable than the moulded plastic bath seats - by that time he already loved bath times and the screaming only started when we took him out the water!!!

fluffymummy · 30/11/2007 13:17

PPS OK, it may have made a difference that we have a very big Ikea sink in DS's room, but even a normal bathroom sink should be good for the first couple of weeks...and less messy than filling a bucket or bowl and lugging it around the house!! [grin'

madmouse · 30/11/2007 13:53

Hi all

Just had my lovely leaving lunch here in the office. In true fashion all I did was pay for samosas, springrolls etc and other people ran round cooking curries, chicken dishes, cake, putting all the food on plates. I felt useless but they insisted it was ok

Just a few more hours to go now...weird. Feeling weird to. I have worked here for 5.5 years, to be off for a year is quite daunting!

Lucky. Poor you on the ward visit . Please bear in mind YOU ARE IN CHARGE. No interventions can be done without your permission and within reason you can behave exactly as you chose. You do not need to accept anything if you don't want to. Read up and know what you do and do not want.

Amani · 30/11/2007 14:03

Afternoon ladies,

Not long to go now, for you ladies working your last day.

Talking about baby baths, we got one of those 'lay back chairs' (if that's what it's called) from Mothercare where baby is in a half lay back/sitting position in the bath/baby bath and then you can have both hands free to wash.

Susie - hair still feels lovely although DH asked me last night why I went a more red colour.

Any news on Awen?

Got awful heartburn and all I ate was one samosa....

Amani · 30/11/2007 14:04

Madmouse - sounds like you had a lovely leaving do..

fabmrsv · 30/11/2007 14:05

dandruff - not to use polytar?

hi just read that someone mentioned polytar. don't want to be alarmist but i have a vague feeling that you shouldn't use polytar in pregnancy? you might want to check with gp or similar before using

bluebell82 · 30/11/2007 14:06

hello all, I am too late to re-join?? I have been posting on the pregnancy threads.. very jealous to hear people are finishing work don't finish until 14th and I am soooo tired!
Due Jan 24th...x

susiemj · 30/11/2007 14:14

Hello Bluebell - The more the merrier!

Amani · 30/11/2007 14:21

Welcome to the madhouse bluebell!!

Lulubump · 30/11/2007 14:57

It has now taken me about 2 hours to catch up since the beginning of the week . Love it!
Awen - have posted on your thread...Good luck!!! For anyone who wanted a link to Awen's other thread, its {{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1365/431898?ts=1196432785181&msgid=8762434 here]]

I have caught up, I promise, but now can't remember all the details I've just been reading so engrossedly! (is that even a word?). Pregnancy brain

I've been really enjoying pottering around on my first week off. SO glad I've taken the time to relax, feeling much more chilled and mellow...my boss isn't though! [evil chuckle]. He called me three times on Monday, after I told him I wouldn't be in all week...and my maternity cover woman has been ringing me at home too. My answering machine is really coming into its own

Madmouse, sounds like a mini feast at your offices, I've got the munchies now!

Mixedmama - so sweet of your colleagues re:
the cab.

Amani - hope you enjkoyed that samosa, and it was worth the heartburn

Welcome bluebell!

love to all, and have super duper last days for those leaving work today.
