Helloooooo????

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
gingeme · 20/11/2007 09:46

Morning ladies. The meet up was great. It was ashame only fluffy and barristermum turned up. The food was just so yummy. Good recomendation mixedmamma
Just ashame I had a night full of heartburn though
fluffymummy the shop I got my buggy from is Babzee Baby Goods. Theyre on Ebay. They do loads od other baby stuff. We bought Edwrads car seat from there too. The one we have is blue and charcoal umbrella buggy. Fits through a single door way and comes with footmuffs and rain cover. Ours should be delivered today so Ill let you know its look.
Oh its £89.99 with £15 p+p. Might have a look and see if they do a changing bag to match.
Raspberry tea mmmm not sure if it works or not but I was told to take it from week 37. I tried it with ds3 and he was 4 days early. Didnt take it with ds4 and he was 6 days early . Dont stress about bringing labour on just yet. In my experiance baby comes when baby wants.
Well on that note Im off to buy some Gaviscon tabs and brown paper(the papers for the bits Ive sold on Ebay not for the heatrburn[grin).
Have a good day all xxxxx

fluffymummy · 20/11/2007 10:31

Morning everyone Just back from GP checkup, which wasn't quite as smooth as usual...she bllcked me for being 10 mins late (fair enough, I suppose), but is a bit worried about my sciatica, leg cramps and stuff like that. So I have to see a physio this week, if I can get my health insurance to cover it, and she's making noises about not letting me travel to Glasgow next week....which is a bit stressful, even if she's right

Oh, and she wants me to have a 34 wk growth span (am 31 now) but can't refer me, so I have to ask the hospital apparently, as ds was huge and 2 weeks late, which made delivery quite complicated. Probably a good thing, but something else to worry about right now...guess I'm just in that kind of mood ...must be the weather

Meet up last night was lovely, even tho it was just the 3 of us...great to meet Gingeme (glad you got home ok, hon!) and Barristermum in person . Such a shame Nicky6, Sabinar, Toomanyshoes and MixedMama couldn't make it in the end....2Manyshoes, Sabinar and MM - how you guys feeling today?

The evil leg cramps from hell kicked in again at 4am, so I'm feeling tired and grumpy today. Definitely not in the mood to go to DH's work colleague's event this evening....[grumbling face]....

Gingeme - thanks for the link!

Angechica - hope you feeling better?

Naetha - definitely get a new mattress, and a coat of paint or gloss probably wouldn't hurt, but that should be enough

OK, had better go and do some work, I suppose.

beller · 20/11/2007 10:31

so can we buy raspberry leaf tea tablets and do they work in the same way?

sabinar · 20/11/2007 10:34

beller - I'm not sure... I've only ever heard people talk about the tea, although I did see the tablets online yesterday and was wondering the same thing.

Amani · 20/11/2007 10:34

Back again after mw appointment, baby is 3/5 engaged. MW reckons I might have an early one as it is quite low down and all the dodgy stomaches that I've been having are pre-labour signs. Asked about Raspberry Leaf Tea and she told me not to have it until 37 weeks. Also advised me to see the GP about the rashes that I've been getting on my arms and legs - reckon it might be pigmentation changes, but best to get it checked out.

Went through the birth plan and mw disagreed with keeping baby atatched to cord until it stop pulsating, as she said it will increase the likelyhood of LO having jandice, due to blood continuing to flow between mother and baby, so need to have a re-think on that one.

LilyLoo · 20/11/2007 10:41

morning all glad last night went well.

I have just bought my birth pool from someone off here so should get delivery next week. Am starting to get excited now but am still hoping baby will wait until after xmas to arrive.

Hope all of you who haven't been too good perk up soon.

[Hmm] fluffy not sure being ten min late when you so heavily pregnant deserves bollocking.

Amani i thought the same you shouldn't really touch the rasberry leaf stuff until the last few weeks.

Beller i think tablets are fine. TBH i tried them all with ds and nothing worked and ended up having to be induced.

Well off to order my shopping now can't face the supermarket anymore, hope you all have nice day

katyt1 · 20/11/2007 10:55

Hi all,

sorry to have missed meet up too

perhaps a daytime one in early jan when we can bring along lo's???
[in fact i could do some daytime ones before christmas in london if anyone is up for that?]

re black tie do - i mentioned it before but here is the link:
www.doesmytumlookbiginthis.com I hired the 30quid sparkling blue dress and it was perfect for the occasion (if a tad tight, ahem).

raspberry leaf tea - i have heard the tablets work too, in fact bought some last week in preparation, only unsure as to when to start? may wait til 37 weeks just in case as i can have my homebirth from then.

awen - well done to ds in school

lilyloo - have fun with the pool

re toilets - i now have to sneak off to have a wee when ds is around as he is obsessed with washing his hands [read playing with water] and throws a fit when we have to leave the bathroom! also he got really into the unwinding the loo roll thing and would do it all the time - then try to eat it....

well am meant to be working, off to a work lunch later, prob going to be boring and go on for far too long so will have to rush to collect ds.
haven't packed bag yet either, but only 31 weeks today so a while to go yet.
(a normal rucksack or any bag with a few pockets will do btw.)

right, work...

Lulubump · 20/11/2007 11:01

Morning all. According to a friend of mine, the raspberry leaf tea tastes rather yuk (not fruity), and you'd have to drink gallons for it to be effective. She took the tablets instead from Holland and Barrett, but wasn't sure if they worked - can't hurt though. Doesn't bring on labour, but is mean to make contractions more efficient.

Interesting point about the cord and jaundice, Amani - I've got that in my birth plan, and my mw seemed quite happy with it.

Love all the bags everyone's linked to - have decided to resist though, as I have a cream canvas bag that can (and will) do the job.

how's the heartburn gingeme? Got to try that fresh pineapple - can you buy it ready peeled (can't imagine faffing with a big spiny pineapple at the mo)

Bit annoyed @ work - boss wants me to go to London fo rmeetings next Tues, come back to Nottingham on Wed, and go back again on Thurs - have told him I can't cope with all that travelling. His response - why don't we see how it goes? I know how it goes - I can't manage to-ing and froing on the tube coming home really late and then doing it all again after a day in the office!!!

Updates on my mad SIL - saw her this weekend, and she's mean tot be 12 weeks pregnant. Didn't really look much different, hasn't had a midwife appointment, went shopping and didn't buy any maternity wear (although she bought a couple of cardigans) - is she pregnant?

AND she did try to do the whole comparison thing: 'I think you were much bigger than me at this stage'. My response 'Can't rememeber' Her: 'It was around June, wasn't it?' Me 'Well, to figure it out, I'd have to count backwards in weeks, and I really can't be bothered!' - that shut her up briefly.

She then went on a tour of our house (we moved not long ago) and was alone upstairs. I went to the upstairs loo to hear her opening drawers in the baby room, and saying 'oh you've even got blankets' and touching everything. Was sooo irritated, thought I was going to blow - luckily just locked myself in the loo till I calmed down. Is it just me, or is this totally rude???

OK, rant over! Thanks for listening guys

katyt1 · 20/11/2007 11:07

lulu - she's nuts. full stop.

re boss, tell him you cannot manage that much travelling. you must stay in ldn the middle stay, it's crazy otherwise.

i went through a pineapple stage, yes you can get it cut up already! but still fresh.

with lulu's m/w in the cord thing. meant to be much better for baby to have it's full allotment of blood from mum before cutting the cord. i was led to believe it is the other way round, jaundice more likely when cord is clamped too soon and baby has less blood than it should have.

Amani · 20/11/2007 11:13

Lulubump - about your SIL - still think she is telling fibs. Can't believe you're travelling around. Defo taking it easy if you can.

Yes, am confused with conflicting info - think I might Google to find out more.

katyt1 · 20/11/2007 11:13

re cord cutting:

www-fhs.mcmaster.ca/main/news/news_2007/umbilical_cord.htm

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 11:35

Morning all,

Just caught up.

Glad you ladies had a nice time at the meet up. gutted to have missed it but was sooo knackered and such a waste of good food if i just vomitted, which frankly was highly likley. Gingeme - all credit goes to fluffy for the recommendation.

Katy1 - Day time meet up. Fluffymummy and I (and i think Barristermum) had been talking about a trip with existing LO's to London Zoo if you might fancy it, altho I think Fluffy is working until 39.5 so not sure on her availability.

Gingeme - Wood Green chinese seems to be fine for all involved next week.

Ange - sorry you are feeling down hun. It may be worth going with the flow with DH as sometimes it really is a when the baby is here thing.

Naetha - my first instinct on reading your post was not to use the cot, but having seen all the suggestions it seems fine.

LuckySalem - you mum will never know if you stay at home till you are ready to go in.

Amani - LOl at being ready to take on the world. I feel quite good today. On the late shift so got DS ready DH took him to my dads and I cleaned up a bit marinated chops for dinner tonight and had a nice long bath before coming to work. I have my MW appointment today so I hope she is as helpful (for once) as yours, altho i doubt it, have made a list tho. Thats interesting about the cord pulsating, I had put down to let it stop pulsating, but not really sure why as I am not all that botheres and last time I think it was just clamped and cut.

Hello to everyone else, hoep we are all fine.

OP posts:
beller · 20/11/2007 11:36

im confused about the cord cutting now too will ask the midwife tomorrow.

Amani - Yayyyyy to being 3/5 engaged!!!!!

Lulubump - sil sounds weird..has she told everyone she is pregnant now? Work are being very unresonable!! I would put your foot down it at all possible?

I have told you of a few weird and wonderful stories from work here...well next friday on my last day, instead of doing a tombola (dont ask) they are going to do a weight of babybel one..with the guy drawing the tickets dressed in a nappy! (shakes head) hahahahaha

fluffymummy · 20/11/2007 11:38

Lulubump - big sympathy for both evil boss and bunny-boiler SIL!!

Am at your boss - the easy way to deal with it, if you have a reasonable GP, is to get a letter stating that you shouldn't do that much travelling as it is detrimental to your health. The other option (and I mean this quite seriously) is to travel to London on the Tuesday, then take the Wednesday off work with exhaustion (for which read stay in bed and don't do anything), then travel on the Thursday again and do the same thing Friday. He won't ask you again

As for SIL, , bit hard to say. I suspect that if anyone else had been admiring your new baby stuff you probably wouldn't have minded, but it is really really creepy to have her going through the drawers when you don't know what games she's playing....guess you could offer to go with her for the 12 week scan, ask her which hospital she's in, ask to see scan pics etc

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 11:45

Lulu - typed my post before i saw yours.

Tell the boss cannot be done or second fluffys answer of going to GP.

SIL - sounds nuts. It isnt nice someone going through your bits either.

OP posts:
susiemj · 20/11/2007 12:44

Hello all -

My you're all being very interesting today RE raspberry tea and cords. Ihave nothing of worht to add, sadly. Amani - that's so exciting you're babe's engaged! What is your due date again? And Fluffy, my GP routinely keeps me waiting at least 20 minutes (last time because she was 'on the phone'!). I don't really mind but I'd give them very short shrift if they had a go for my being late.

Lulu - This is probably going to sound wrong - and SIL does sound nuts - but I'm beinning to feel a bit sorry for her. It doesn;t sound to me like she's pregnant (or she'd tell you every detail, surely) but it sounds like she's desperate to be. Iknow this doesn't make it any less annoying BTW!

Katy - I am in love with that dress on the home page of the website you posted. I want to hire it just to wear around the house so I can feel totally glam while pregnant! I couldn't find a blue one.. sure you looked ace.

I vow to do something useful with my day! (apart from housework). It's one of those days when everything I plan to do I can't because of some stupid reason. I can't even have beans on toast for lunch as we've run out of bread and I can't go to the shop because I'm waiting for my 'just the right temperature' jumper to dry! I'm hopeless!

Babato · 20/11/2007 12:48

Hi ladies
Sorry I have not been about for a while...stopped work 2 weeks ago and thought I'd have plenty of time to be a lady of leisure until LO arrives but that has SO not been the case. We have been having lots of work done in our flat and as DH working full time I have been the one making the arrangements and getting up at ridiculously early hours to let workmen in!!! Was actually up yesterday as we were supposed to be getting wardrobes fitted and then they called and postponed until today so again I got up really early and waited and waited and waited and made several calls leaving angry phone messages but received a very apologetic phone call about half an hour ago to say all the joiners were called to an amergency this morning where a roof had fallen in and a lady was killed - 2 young children also in house but unharmed. Now feel guilty for my rage all morning!!
Well I finally managed to catch up on all your posts and you all sound v busy and v organised especially as most of you are still working as well!!!
We seem to be getting there re being organised...as the weeks roll by it all seems scarily close - I think because we have Xmas in between and we all know how quickly December goes!!!
Our big purchase has been a Quinny Buzz which should be delivered tomorrow - am v excited!!!
Off to see Take That in Glasgow on Fri - Beller you have made me look forward to that even more than I was.
Flying to Rugby on Sat morning for cousin's wedding - managed to get gorgeous maternity dress reduced in Next from £40 to £8, shoes from £20 to £8 and cardigan from £22 to £1!!!!!!!!! Feel v virtuous in my shopping . However with all the travelling on Sat will prob be asleep by the time the dancing starts at the wedding!!!! Can you believe most of the family are travelling down on Fri by car and it is me, DH, my brother and his partner flying on Sat morning and not one family member, my own Dad included has offered to pick us up at the airport so we now face a £50 taxi fare on Sat and then same again on Sun to get back to the airport!!!! Just as well my shopping was virtuous!!! Sorry for ranting!!!!
Hope you ladies are all having a good Tuesday!!!

MrsMcJnr · 20/11/2007 12:52

Only 5 pages to catch up on since Sat

LuckySalem ? I asked at NCT about the ball after 35 weeks and was told that it is a good thing to do and wouldn?t bring on labour unless it was on it?s way anyway if you do need a breast pump initially because your baby can?t suck or something, you can use the ones in hospital, after that, they don?t recommend that you use bottles with expressed milk in for the first month anyway as bottle teats confuse babies so you have a month to get one if you need one after the birth. Bottles are an enigma to me, there are so many makes and types and I?ve heard babies can be fussy. I have about 6 all rejects that my nephew refused hopefully someone else can be more use than me on that one! your suits comment reminded me of something funny, I asked my sis why I needed so many vests for the baby when I had the long and short limbed suits, she told me that those are what they refer to as ?vests? how was I to know?! I got 2 bf nighties in navy blue for £9.99 on eBay, they were from a shop rather than a private seller and there were lots more I found something in a folder at home about being dismissed when you are pg and still being entitled to SMP, if you are still looking at that let me know and I?ll get the link to the government site for you. Not sure about the nipple thing but know that loads of veins are common now

Awen ? sorry to hear DP is away again hope the time passes quickly. Sorry to hear about your aliments hope the scan and appointment went well I keep reminding myself that my Mum and Sis only had 3 weeks left at my stage ? that?s not enough time!!! sorry to hear you are worried about DS.

Madmouse I would love a peep window those pancakes sounded delicious! I am so ashamed, there is you, far more pregnant than me on a bike with your shopping and I get Tesco to deliver it and take it into my kitchen for me sorry about all your aches and pains though (I blame the cycling ) of you only having a week left, I have 4 more after this week.

Lilyloo ? hello. I have some stuff in the bag but most on the spare bed, I figure that I?ll have tons of time when I am contracting to finalise the packing! that is exactly how I feel about the nursery ? it is like a little person?s room now I have bids in on eBay for a few things and have ordered a few things from Vertbaudet like a nappy box so hopefully it?ll all come together nicely that is so lovely about your eternity ring, how romantic

Gingeme ? sorry to hear about all the stress around the car hope it all works out for you tomorrow.

Neuro

Katyt1 ? hope your DH is now back to normal!

Ayrshirelolo ? hope you are feeling ok and that work isn?t too hard this week.

Fluffy ? hope you are feeling much better your DH is probably right, you are still doing so much, I don?t know how you do it. Your DH does sound lovely wow, you are working late! I do admire you but I don?t envy you!

NHS AN class was about pain relief yesterday, no one asked anything and the only pain relief they knew about was epidural. DH thinks none of them really care about knowing anything, I?m just amazed. Next week?s class is cancelled (not re-scheduled ? so we are missing out BFing ). On the plus side, DH really enjoyed his first Dads 2 Be last night there were 16 Dads there and he said it was all about support in labour and delivery and how to judge when to do what etc like leave work! He was taught the acronym BRAN which (sorry if you know this, I didn?t) stands for benefits, risk, alternatives and do nothing and they were taught to assess all questions asked of them by med profs in labour on this basis. I thought it made a lot of sense

We have our 32 week scan and consultant?s appointment on Thurs. Looking forward to seeing Beanie again (and hoping I actually get to this time!) but nervous as ever. I feel like I am massive now though so hopefully it is Beanie and not me growing!

Amani ? how did the discussion about the birth plan go? I am working until 36+3 and think I?ll be exhausted. If you can go off earlier, it?ll only do you good.

Mixedmama ? sorry to hear you missed the meet up, are you feeling better? Glad the birthing centre and pool room seemed nice at your hospital

Beller glad you had a good time at Take That, I was thinking of you, did Babybel kick a lot?! Sounds like you have a good week.

Hey Lulubump your boss sounds really unreasonable if I were you, I?d pull a sickie, would serve him right!! not the right attitude I know but he is being really selfish and unreasonable. If they haven?t made plans for you going off then that?s their problem, they?ve known for long enough (having some similar issues here but refuse to let the buck stop with me)

Sabinar ? sorry to hear the ankle is still sore I ended up at the physio for weeks with mine last time. It did help (as did yoga strengthening exercises) I thought pregnant women couldn?t use Jacuzzis?! I hate real shopping too, I think it is the heat coupled with the effort! Our baby is going to be in with us too but I want he /she to have his/her space too and I need somewhere to keep clothes, nappy change station etc, hence the nursery! We are planning to use real nappies after the first 3 or 4 weeks. We went to a demo by The Real Nappy Project and are going to rent a lending pack at that point so we can try out a few types before buying our own. I have got some bumf on a few different suppliers already so I have that info to hand when the time comes. Where are you again? I could ask the people up here if they have a contact near you?

Naetha ? LOL families hey!! Stand your ground about the tiling though, aside from the obvious reasons why you don?t want others in the house then (and boy, am I with you on that!) the last thing you want is ongoing tiling in the kitchen! Was MK only 34 weeks when she popped, wow! Very hungry/or greedy here too!!

Susiemj ? hope the pains are better you are having a hard time aren?t you?

Coming up for air now as I have hit my last post

Amani · 20/11/2007 12:54

susiemj - Due 30th Dec - on both Dec and Jan thread as prior to today's appointment I was not sure when LO would arrive.
Fingers corssed for a baby before Xmas!

Babito - what sad news to hear. Enjoy your wedding

susiemj · 20/11/2007 12:58

Thanks MrsMc - feeling quite good though. Osteopaths are great! And last night I FORGOT to take my medication which is unheard of as usually get a very physical reminder (ahem)! Must be truly on the mend.

Hope scan is fab! I'd love to see my LO again before birth!

Naetha · 20/11/2007 13:39

Your updates are amazing as ever!

Amani - sounds like you might be the first of us to get going if you're already engaged I've got no idea what's going on inside me, all I know is that come about 3/4pm I get this pressure in my pelvis every day, so I guess LO is engaging in the evening then popping out come morning! I did have a dream that I went into labour on the 17th December, so who knows! I admit I would like an earlier appearance - partly so DH can make the most of his forced week off over Christmas, but also because I'm impatient!

Babato - we've decided to get a Quinny Buzz as well, just trying to find it for a decent price - cheapest I can find it with a Maxi Cosi carseat is £360 on t'internet.

Stepdad is going to do the tiling this week if he has any time - his train leaves at 9:30am on Saturday, so I'll keep him up all night if I have to! Hopefully he'll have plenty of time - if not, we'll just have to do it ourselves. Glad I put my foot down about him coming after the birth - he's by all means welcome to visit, just not stay for a week in our house!

Cot-wise I've decided to get a new cot. They're not that expensive, and I'd rather have that confidence than always be worrying. Realistically it would be more effort to get it sanded and re-waxed than to buy a new one (we're lazy!) and the thought of my child chewing on a cot that's got ingrained nicotine and tar just doesn't appeal.

Finding it very difficult to focus at work - just want to read up about baby stuff

Amani · 20/11/2007 13:48

Naetha - love to have this baby asap...so fed up, but after 36 weeks mind u!

Talking about cots, IKEA do good reasonable priced ones.

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 13:51

Agree that I want to meet my baby now. Mum and dad are away for the weekend this weekend tho and they are looking after DS so will wait for them

OP posts:
Amani · 20/11/2007 13:52

Mrs McJr - other than the issue about the cord everything else went well.

I also mentioned that I want to give a good go at BF and minimum stay in hospital which mw said was a contradiction, as if I wanted to establish BF I needed to stay in a bit longer. Mentioned this to the ladies on the Dec thread who genrally agreed that the time in hospital has no link to how well you BF.

Amani · 20/11/2007 13:54

And also want LO to hold off until DH eventually gets our car seat and base out the attic (been telling him for weeks to do it and still hasn't done it!)
