I've got stuff happening every weekend until the 16th Dec - after that (I'll be 38 weeks by then) I think anything is fair game, so I may book myself in for a bit of reflexology (meant to be very good at getting stuff going) that week, as well as all the other recommended stuff. Having said that, I'm looking forwards to having some time at home, just me and the cats

gingeme · 20/11/2007 14:24

Well good afternoon ladies.
Where do I start?
Were getting our cot form Ikea Amani. We got our changing table from there too.
Were going shopping later and I will get some pineapple thanks.
Lo's got his MMR booster at 4. DH is taking him in. I dont thimk I have enough lap to cuddle him on now
I felt a bit of all the new and groovy changing bags you were all buying so I went onto the site I got my buggy from and ordered one that matches it with an elephant on it. Very cute.
Have you checked the site out yet fluffymummy?
Re meet up at Wood Green. The place is called Aroma. Its an eat as much as you like buffet type place. Its a set price but cant remember off hand how much. If you get on the Picadilly line to Wood Green. Walk out the station towards Wood Green itself. A bout 5 min walk down hill you come to Wood Green shopping City on your left. There is an HMV and WHSmith at the entrance. Take the escalators up and to your right is the resteraunt. You dont have to book a table and the tables vary from sitting 4 to 24 people so I think we should be ok. Unless you would rather wait outside till were all there and go in together?
Anyway I think thats probably the best directions I can give. If I go down Wood Green before hand Ill find out the price.

Meant to ask before btw, how big are peoples babies on the personalised growth chart jobbie? Mine's been right on the line of the 90th centile since my first measurement at 30 weeks - wondering if either this is a big baby, or if my dates are slightly out (not a 100% regular cycle).

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 14:56

Naetha.... nobody has ever given me any such information about my baby. There have been no tape measures measuring fundal height at any appointment or anything so no idea.

OP posts:
Amani · 20/11/2007 14:59

MM - am shocked they have not measured you at any stage. Got measured today and mine has always been pretty much on the dotted average line.

susiemj · 20/11/2007 15:04

Hi Naetha - as my MW explained it to me, the fundal growth chart is MORE accurate at predicting small babies than big ones bu it's real purpose is to check that there is growth at each check up. If there is no growth the MW MAY request a scan if she;s worried. I'm on the bigger side - I have been above average at times.

Mixedmama - maybe ask your GP about the chart? I think they can do the measurement too. Have you asked MW? I know MW services vary a lot, having been treated in two different health authorities.

Naetha · 20/11/2007 15:06

That's terrible MM - how far along are you?

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 15:07

I told you the MW is absolutely rubbish. I literally go in she says how are you, I explain various ailments along with what they might be from my own research she just says yes and then take blood pressure, test urine if i remember to take the pot as she keeps no spares. Then she barks at me to get on the bed and she prods for heartbeat (and i mean prods) confirms that I heard it and sends me packing. Last time i was asked how I was going to feed, i said hopefully BF she wrote down "BF discussed".

Useless.

OP posts:
Amani · 20/11/2007 15:07

meant to say - been measured everytime since 28 wks

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 15:08

34 weeks Naetha... due NYE. I was with a different borough last time and the difference is so huge.

OP posts:
mixedmama · 20/11/2007 15:09

My last appointment was at 28 weeks Amani. 6 whole weeks ago.

OP posts:
Amani · 20/11/2007 15:23

Huh - I've had 2 appoitments since then. Not good at all.

beller · 20/11/2007 15:26

cant remember Amani is this your first..or 2nd? I have midwife appt tomorrow and hoping im engaged..definately feels different

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 15:31

I am waiting to see when my next appointment will be. My last pregnancy was very low risk and I never got past every 2 weeks if she tries to say next appointment at 38 weeks I will be putting my foot down and insisting on 36 weeks and every two weeks.

OP posts:
beller · 20/11/2007 15:37

i have had appts every other week since 30 weeks too? Have you spoken to them Mixedmamma?

LuckySalem · 20/11/2007 15:37

Afternoon all,

Had MW apt today, liked her but feeling slightly let down by it. I had filled in a birth plan on a different peice of paper (you can do it in the back of the book but didn't want to solidify anything) but was told we're not going to discuss it at this one, maybe next week. Otherwise speak to the MW in antinatal class.
I've got sooo many questions that I want to ask but don't seem to have the time.
I said I want to consider a homebirth and what will I need etc and just got the same next time speach.

She measured my belly and i'm 36inches (outside the 90th percentile) but she's said she's mostly measuring me (which I knew anyway) Babys head is down with it's back to my righthand side. She says she doesn't think it's engaged now but it is very low so may not be long.

RE: THE CORD THING - Everything I've read says it stops anemia and jaundice etc. Also, it lowers the risk of the baby developing breathing problems as there is oxygen in the cord which will supply the baby until it manages to take it's first breath on it's own.

Anyway, slightly depressed so am going. Speak to you all later and hope yous ok.

beller · 20/11/2007 15:38

amani - about the BF...does sound weird advice..otherwise how would homebirthers do?! Are they saying they have no chance at BF?
Dont you find some advice from midwifes a bit bizarre?

Babato · 20/11/2007 15:42

very jealous of all of you ladies who have had measurements taken by midwives - I haven't had any taken and I am now 32+1. At my last appointment last week I asked about the size of the baby and all she would say was that I was measuring right for dates - when she hadn't even taken any measurements!!!
Naetha - check out One Stop baby Shop on ebay - we got the Quinny Buzz with Maxi Cosi car seat and carry cot for £399!

beller · 20/11/2007 15:42

((((((((((Luckysalem))))))))))

The midwife appts do seem a bit rushed eh? Im hoping to ask a few questions tomorrow, and she said she will make an appt to come and drop the bag of tricks off....

Naetha · 20/11/2007 15:42

That's absolutely appalling MM - I'm due the day before you and been measured 3 times already. Have a check on NICE guidelines about what they should be doing at this stage - I'm sure customised/personalised growth charts is on there, not to mention regular visits after 28 weeks.

LuckySalem · 20/11/2007 15:42

Beller - I agree, like my MW has said not to use birthing balls after 35 weeks as can bring on labour, Yet another (mrsMc's) says its fine? Same with the cord thing. I wish they'd all read from the same hymn book.

madmouse · 20/11/2007 15:43

Hi all

I have only been in London for the morning and you lot have produced three pages for me to wade through!

Amani, Beller, I think Amani's mw is a bit out of date. Jaundice can happen if baby gets too much blood, but if you let the cord just finish its job the baby won't get too much. S/he will just get what they need. I am planning to leave mine as well, and try to breastfeed while still attached to help with natural delivery of the placenta.

MrsMcJnr, I can't be much more pregnant than you, I am one of the last on this thread in terms of due date (30 January), so I am only 30weeks today. I find cycling easier than walking as it does not bother my back and my bike carries my bag for me. But then, I am Dutch and have cycled since before I could walk . If I would not cycle, I would have to take the bus to town (which takes just as long) and then walk another 15mins to the station. Plus waiting for the bus.

I was in a fairly important meeting at the Home Office this morning when beanie decided to majorly distract me. One of his limbs was apparently stuck at the top of my bump, cue ten minutes of wriggling, pushing, squirming, until I suddenly felt an arm or leg sliding across the top of my bump and down across his body. In the silence that followed I could almost feel the contented sigh . It was hard not to laugh. After a few minutes of peace normal bouncing resumed which more or less allowed me to concentrate.

at folks meeting up. Does anyone live in Oxford?

Amani · 20/11/2007 15:45

Beller - 2nd one. Yes, well I've always thought my mw was a bit rubbish to put it mildy.

Oh gosh, my maternity trousers feel so tight today and am sure they are on the last button setting.

mixedmama · 20/11/2007 15:53

LuckySalem... seems like you and I are in the same boat. My MW routinely completely ignores DH aswell.

Beller - I have not spoken to them yet as they are bloody difficult to get hold of. the only contact number is for the day assesment unit at the hospital who put me through to the community team who tell me my MW is not there as she is out in the "community".

Tomorrow I am going to ask every question tho and let her answer them rather than giving my explanations based on what i see on here and the net. Thankfully, i will be moved once the baby is here so will be visited by the same group of MW as when i had DS.

Could not bear it if she delivers my baby.
