@Firevie @Pancakes7 I have the DreamGenii too used it last time around and using it again. It's great for feeding too when baby arrives!

Garman · 02/05/2021 08:55

@Pancakes7 I didn't say anything about antihistamines, did you mean to tag someone else?

@marplemead my gp said I could use a steroid based nasal spray when sterimar doesn't cut it, she said steroid sprays are fine, if someone is asthmatic they'd still be on their inhalers through pregnancy.

Pancakes7 · 02/05/2021 08:57

Sorry I meant to tag @marplemead

I'll copy my post again..

You can't take antihistamine sorry. I asked about this in my first pregnancy. I was recommended a nasal spray. I actually haven't needed to use it as weirdly my hay fever sort of disappeared? It's Sterimar hay fever & allergies nasal spray as it's natural it's safe to use

@Pancakes7 thanks yes I may double up on the face mask actually
@MrsTD88 ah great that you like it too
I might order it on Amazon. Very good price actually xxx

Smurf123 · 02/05/2021 09:02

@marplemead and @Pancakes7 I was told it is OK to take certain antihistamines
Loratadine and ceiterizine are considered safe in pregnancy if you need them. Also the nasal sprays are fine. I use flixinaise (I can't spell this morning!) I think they say not to take anything in the first trimester though.
Tbh though I'm still overly cautious and try not to take if I don't have to but on bad days I do take the ceiterizine and the nasal spray most days.

Smurf123 · 02/05/2021 09:04

@Firevie I got my hair done on Tuesday they have to keep all doors and windows open for ventilation so that helps with the smells!

marplemead · 02/05/2021 10:19

Thank you @Garman @Pancakes7 @Smurf123
Sadly the Sterimar isn't cutting it at the moment, and I'm pretty sure I remember taking Loratadine when I was pregnant with DD. Will check with the midwife. It's keeping me up at night, otherwise I'd just soldier through it.

@Firevie, I've ordered the Babymoov Mum & B pregnancy pillow. It looks compact, which is ideal as we still bed share with DD. We have a super king, but she always finds her way over to my side.

imisscoffee · 02/05/2021 11:36

Enjoy @Firevie, mines booked for 14th May (last cut in Oct 🙈) and I'm so excited. It goes lovely and thick when I'm pregnant but when I wear it down it's like a big hairy curtain with more split ends than hair.

Re hayfever, I bought some eye drops from Amazon that have really helped. They're safe to use in pregnancy and alongside any antihistamines. I only really get itchy/watery eyes, but the outdoor areas at work set me off and half my day is spend outside so can't really avoid it.

PumpkinEverything · 02/05/2021 15:47

@Firevie if you’re interested in weight the pampers website has a weight gain calculator to see how much you should be gaining each week based on how far along you are. I’m 17 weeks tomorrow and have gained around 10lb which is bit more than I should have according to the pampers tracker 🙈 I am ‘calorie counting’ but not really. I don’t have a goal for each day but I’m trying to log what I’m eating more to be mindful as I do think some of the weight I’ve put on is from me eating a lot of crap rather than baby weight 😂 I was probably eating around 2500 calories some days in the first trimester because I felt so hungry! I’m trying to focus on eating more fruit now and being mindful about the amount of sweets and chocolate I eat, as I honestly would eat it all day every day if I didn’t.
For meals during the week I’ve been starting with a smoothie, then I eat a bowl of cereal a few hours later, for lunch I’ve been eating a bagel with either avocado or some cheese, and then if I’m hungry I’m still loving the different kinder slices. Then in the afternoon I have either a yoghurt or some fruit. Then I’ll have dinner which could be anything really, sometimes pasta, quesadillas, tacos, ‘chicken’ burgers with chips. And then I’ll maybe have a few sweets or a bit of chocolate. I find if I try to stick to really healthy eating and don’t have a ‘nice’ dinner I turn to snacks 😂
Oh and I think you’ll be okay in the hairdresser with the smells because you’re wearing a mask. I’m getting my hair highlighted on Tuesday and contacted my hairdresser to make sure that was okay with pregnancy and she said it was fine 😊

Firevie · 02/05/2021 16:45

Thanks ladies! Hairdresser was amazing. Went for short hair - feels so light and pretty 🥰
@PumpkinEverything thanks for the tip Re weight calculator and your food diaries! I usually eat cereal or smoothies or toast for breakfast, some fruits around 11am, salad for lunch, snacks around 4pm and then dinner. Post dinner I’m trying hard to not eat chocolate so maybe I’ll have chocolate 2-3 times a week and otherwise I have a cup of milk. Xxx

PumpkinEverything · 02/05/2021 16:50

I’m very much a ‘need something sweet’ after dinner person @Firevie so I’m struggling with this 😂🙈 I’ve got some orange bournville so I’ve been trying a few squares of that after if I really want something as the dark chocolate makes me not feel like I want as much. I’d been sleeping terribly for 4 weeks or so there so have also tried to stop eating after 8 to allow my food time to digest, which has also helped cut out the sweets as much. Hard some days tho if we’ve had a busy day 🙈

Firevie · 02/05/2021 17:16

@PumpkinEverything absolutely agree it’s so hard! I have just had a cookie lol 🤦🏽‍♀️😂 xxx

PumpkinEverything · 02/05/2021 17:20

I’ve just sat and watched beauty and the beast @Firevie and had a big bowl of grapes and strawberries, but also some Percy pigs and some chocolate orange mini eggs 😂 which I had to put in a small bowl so I’d not eat both packets in full 🙈

Bellabubble · 02/05/2021 17:26

@firevie I haven’t been tracking weight - my mum has an earing disorder when she was younger and still has food related issues so we never had them in the house meaning I have never really been in the havit of weighing myself. I know post surgical management and by the time I was 12weeks and they weighed me at the hospital I had put of 5kgs - which when I looked at trackers was waaaay to much for the 1st trimester and my height vs starting weight etc - but ironically I was barely eating as I felt so sick! At my midwife appointment (16+ 3) I was exactly the same weight as I had been the month before but the midwife wasn’t concerned at all. We’ll see what my next scan/check brings in 10days - I have definitely got a bump now although my work colleagues were shocked when I told them the other day so I guess maybe I’m overly sensitive to it 😂

Vaccine wise I won’t get the vaccine until after bubba is born for my own peace of mind. Where I am I’d be likely to get the vaccine end of June (unless they bring forward teachers getting it) but I’m due end of Sept, and having had 2 losses in a row last year - I just don’t feel comfortable. I absolutely will post bubba being born - but having worked in school the whole time I’m in a good routine cleaning/hand gel-ing regularly, I wear a mask all day at school and wash my clothes at the end of each day etc - plus doing the tests twice weekly. In a way I feel lucky that I have been teaching throughout as I have had normality - so I’m going to welcome being a hermit in the summer holidays! That is when I have planned to clear the little room and turn it into the baby’s room (it’s already painted, just need furniture and decorations etc!) so that will keep me occupied :)

Firevie · 02/05/2021 17:38

@PumpkinEverything 😂 love Percy pigs. Didn’t know we could eat haribo. I love them! Don’t tempt me haha!
@Bellabubble I think I’m just overthinking it all! I can clearly see my bump but I did get a Waitrose pizza for later this evening lol
I still have the itchiness so will ask my doctor at my private scan on 13th May. I know it’s because of the skin stretching end I’m drinking water and putting oil on my tummy but can see pimple like marks now sorry not sure how to describe it but as I said I’m sure it’s just because the skin is stretching

Xxx

Bellabubble · 02/05/2021 17:46

@Firevie urgh yeh the itching is a nightmare - mine is all over - legs, arms, belly and back, I feel like a dog with fleas 😂 my midwife said it was hormones, but I found the burts bees mama bee cream has been amazing!

Firevie · 02/05/2021 17:52

@Bellabubble thank you. I’ve been on google which I shouldn’t have! They all take about potential liver condition etc but everyone seems to say it’s ‘normal’ as your skin stretches. When emailed my midwife couple of weeks ago she said to just hydrate and moisturise but my private doctor said we should keep a look at it. I don’t think he wants it to go into third trimester so will show him in two weeks. To be fair I don’t itch much just a bit in the evening and but I tend not to scratch xxx

lamby12 · 03/05/2021 11:06

Hi everyone, I've been very quite on here recently as we have had a a lot going on - DD I'll with a vomiting bug then me and DH I'll with a weird virus (had to get a COVID test but negative, probably the same thing as DD manifesting differently)

Anyway it hasn't left me much time to think about things or worry and suddenly hit me today the dating scan is 1 week and I've become overwhelmingly anxious and feel like I need a scan now! DH thinks I'm being crazy.

It's like I'd forgotten I was pregnant it's been so tiring with DD and I've suddenly come up for air and realised all my symptoms have gone. My reassuring nausea has disappeared, my boobs don't hurt any more, my tummy felt big but now it's gone down (probably bloat) and I've terrible constipation the last day and worried about how much I've had to strain. I know you shouldn't strain but I really couldn't help it (sorry if tmi) I really needed it out! I've got myself all worried the straining and constipation could cause a miscarriage, as well as the disappearing symptoms. Even the the symptoms disappeared before that incident... anyway I'm clearing just creating irrational anxiety and worry. But I think scaniexty has suddenly hit me.

How do I calm down before the dating scan? There's still a week!!!!

PumpkinEverything · 03/05/2021 11:23

Sorry you’re feeling this way @lamby12 😔 the only things I can suggest are to keep as busy as you possibly can, and try to think positively about everything.
I would try your best not to worry about symptoms. I barely had any and then the few that I did have disappeared at 8 weeks and when they came back it was only for a few days and then they’d disappear again. It seems very very common for them to do this from what I’ve read so I would try your best not to worry about them. Even now at 17 weeks today my ‘bump’ feels like it comes and goes 😂 in the mornings I look very normal or just bloated. I remember that happening a lot before my dating scan too and panicking but all seems to be normal!

ELMcg · 03/05/2021 11:43

@lamby12 I am in exactly the same boat! I'm 10 weeks today and had a very good day yesterday, no symptoms whatsoever so naturally I panicked! My scan is 2 weeks on Thursday and convinced myself it will be bad news. I think it's natural though and the rational part of my brain tells me there is no reason for me to think anything is wrong. I should be happy on the days I feel better(just last week I was crying wishing morning sickness away!)

All I can tell you is what I'm trying to do, assume all is well unless there is a sign to tell me otherwise. If I hadn't had an MC before id assume all was OK. And I found out at my scan last time so that's obviously just going to be a hurdle to get across, but once we do it will be lots better I'm sure 😊

Garman · 03/05/2021 13:44

@lamby12 you shouldn't strain when going to the toilet due to the risk of causing it exacerbating piles, nothing to do with miscarriage at all so don't worry about that anyway.

lamby12 · 03/05/2021 14:03

Thanks everyone. I know I'm just creating worry and being irrational because I'm jumping around what it is that I'm even worrying about, I'm just looking for anxiety because I can't relax about it at the moment!

I'm finding it really difficult to keep busy because we've all been a bit poorly, not really doing anything (or up to doing anything) so it's difficult to distract myself.

@Garman thank you, yes I've read this and I know it's a bit of a silly worry - I think of people with terrible vomiting and that's probably worse on the stomach muscles, as well as diahrrea which you obviously can't control. So I know I'm just being a bit silly. My mind is just going into worry mode.

I keep trying to tell myself unless there is something indicating a problem, like bleeding, there's no point getting a scan as I could feel like this every / any day and can't just keep having scans. Just need to try and stay calm. 7 days to go til the scan... x

Firevie · 03/05/2021 14:16

Happy Monday, ladies! Hope you’re all enjoying a lovely Monday. Baby and me have been rather lazy today. Binge watching prison break lol
And I keep feeling a twitch just underneath my left boob and above my belly - could this be my baby’s Movements that I’m feeling? I don’t know what to expect when you start feeling the baby so not sure. Thought some of you mummies may know 🥰🥰🥰

marplemead · 04/05/2021 09:20

@Firevie I think that's too high for baby's movement. I know it's not helpful, but you'll know when it's the baby moving. It's an unfamiliar feeling around the belly button area. I didn't actually feel anything with DD until after the 20wk scan, and nothing yet with this one (I'm 16+4).

Firevie · 04/05/2021 09:27

@marplemead haha thanks thought so not sure what that flutter was then. Was there all day for some reason not painful just a flutter haha
I have a call with the midwife today not sure what she will discuss. Now only 1 week and 2 days to go until my next scan! Yay 🎉 xxx
