@PumpkinEverything I'm the same 31 too and just can't decide. I'm worried if I get it and something goes wrong I will blame myself for taking the vaccine when there's still not a lot of data but then I feel it will offer good protection
I've managed to get dh booked in to the Royal for his which I'm hoping is Pfizer as thats what they have been doing. Thought I'd try and book mine too and then cancel after I manage to talk to a midwife but now only showing availability at the sse and I think it's only the astra zeneca which they seem to be saying not to take in pregnancy. I don't even know if we have anyone doing moderna here yet

PumpkinEverything · 30/04/2021 11:57

Yeah I thought the same about SSE @Smurf123 or they don’t clearly tell you what vaccine they’re offering! I’m okay to hold out for another few weeks anyway because I’ve a wedding next Thursday and don’t want to get it beforehand and feel like I can’t function 🙈 although I’m now thinking oh no, maybe I should have tried to book in beforehand so I had protection when I’m there 😳
I’m the same as you and also terrified of something going wrong and blaming myself, but then on the other hand I’m super worried about catching it further on and having issues 😔 I’ve heard of some people waiting until after 20 weeks to think about it, which is just over 3 weeks for me, so maybe I can hold off until then for when it opens up to our age group completely and not just ‘early access’. When are you hoping to speak to a midwife?

Smurf123 · 30/04/2021 12:23

@PumpkinEverything I've had such a time trying to get a midwife appointment sorted! So midwife I did see is now off sick. Hospital said to get another one from gp. Gp said they don't have one anymore because of covid so they told me to contact downpatrick as said it's their hub. Downpatrick told me it's not them to try holywood. Holywood booked me an appointment then phoned back yesterday to say actually no not us try lagan valley so I'm now booked in to lagan valley hospital for midwife appt mid May for my 28 week midwife appt but I'll actually be 29 weeks 🙈 I don't understand why they can't just do it at the Royal where the rest of my antenatal care is.
But yea 19th May before I'll see them. I think I'll keep looking and if I see one for royal I'll book it then try and contact consultant or gp for advice but otherwise maybe just wait?

Smurf123 · 30/04/2021 13:32

@PumpkinEverything I've managed to book a vaccine appt for the royal .. I'm still torn whether to definitely have it or not but I've taken the appt and am going to phone and ask drs on Tuesday for advice and spent the weekend doing some research

PumpkinEverything · 30/04/2021 13:41

@Smurf123 oh wow! That was quick. Did you get it on the website or how did you book? I’m not really sure how I’m supposed to go about all of it. Like do I speak to the midwife or GP for advice?!

Smurf123 · 30/04/2021 13:45

I went on to the website just to check availability. The royal seems to have very limited availability whereas sse etc have availability from tonight!
I figured I may as well book it since there was an appointment and then it says you can cancel online too if needed. Everything I'm reading online says Pfizer/ moderna are ok to take , though limited data there's no safety concerns in pregnancy at this stage. I'm just wondering how many babies have been born after the vaccine? I'm still cautious and unsure though but then catching COVID in the third trimester significantly increases your risk of preterm birth and COVID is more severe in pregnant woman in third trimester too..

Smurf123 · 30/04/2021 13:46

Says online to speak to either midwife or gp for further advice.. do you have a midwife you could ask?

PumpkinEverything · 30/04/2021 18:38

My midwife hasn’t been great so far @Smurf123😔 I asked her about covid vaccine and she said she hadn’t seen anything online (this was on Monday but the news changed 2 weeks ago?) and that she didn’t know. I also asked her about being able to drink peppermint or camomile tea and she told me to google it 🙈 I think if I ring the number it brings me through to Antrim tho instead of my local Health clinic, so wonder if they’re any better.
We called into boots earlier to ask for my husband and they only do Astra there as they can’t keep the Pfizer cold enough. So looks like I’d def need a hospital to go to! When did you get it booked for?

Smurf123 · 30/04/2021 18:41

@PumpkinEverything sorry you did say about your midwife saying to google it 🙈 maybe the health centre might be better
We don't seem to have great midwife services here
I got booked for the 9th May... It did take a few hours of going in and out to get the availability for the hospital though

imisscoffee · 30/04/2021 19:24

Hi all, lost track for a few days, lots of lovely scan news! Mine is on Tues, hopefully we'll find out the gender 🤞 had a letter from the consultant outlining my care and it says "serial scans from 16 weeks" so I'm hoping for a few more freebies 😂 hope everyone is doing ok. Think I'm starting with SPD, pubic bone is aching so much.

Pancakes7 · 30/04/2021 20:55

@imisscoffee oh no I'm sorry you're getting spd. I'm the same my pgp has started again. I'm worried that if it's starting as early as 15 weeks. What will I be like further on! It started further on last time. With sciatica first then pgp at about 25 weeks. Sucks as I was on crutches last time so can't go out much. Too painful to walk.

Hi Ladies! Happy Saturday! I have a call with my midwife on Tuesday and will also ask about the vaccine. On another note - are you guys keeping a track of your weight? Is it right that you should be putting on one pound each week? Do you guys eat more than 3meals a day and the occasional snacks? Wondering if I need to be eating more xxx

Garman · 01/05/2021 18:28

I don't track my weight, couldn't have even told you it's supposed to be a pound a week. I don't watch what I eat in first/second trimester, I just eat what I can around feeling nauseous 24/7,some days/meals are good some aren't. Some days I eat 8 small meals, some days I eat a ton of snacks, some days 2 big meals. I tend to put on weight quickly in first tri and then level off later anyway.

Cafeaulait27 · 01/05/2021 18:45

Hi everyone!

Had a private scan today (16+4) and found out we’re having a boy! 💙

The sonographer did really thorough checks and all measurements are looking good, bladder and stomach looking good too. My husband recorded it and it’s lovely to see the baby moving although he wasn’t moving much and kept falling asleep!

Really excited now 😆 going to wait until after my 20 week scan at the end of May and then tell my work xxx

marplemead · 01/05/2021 20:53

Good evening everyone . Is anyone else suffering with hayfever? I am really struggling with it, and can't remember whether I am allowed to take antihistamines. I've googled but it says to check with GP/midwife.

@Firevie I also have a midwife appointment on Tuesday - will be asking about the vaccine too. I am keeping a loose track of my weight, as I have extra support to support healthy weight gain. The woman who does it calls me every 6 weeks. I've put on about 10lbs so far, which I was really worried about, but she said that's fine and within the normal range. I am supposed to eat 6 smaller meals a day, but struggle with this. Today I had breakfast, two lunches and a big dinner. I also have snacks in between, which I wouldn't need if I spread out my meals better. The main thing I have been told is not to obsess about food, because everyone gains weight differently in pregnancy, and just to focus on eating a healthy range of food amounting to the recommended 2000cals, and trying to stay active by doing yoga & walking. I don't think there are any rules about how much weight you should gain each week - it's more across the whole pregnancy. Your midwife should be weighing you and keeping track so you don't have to.

@Cafeaulait27 How exciting! Congratulations 💙

Firevie · 01/05/2021 21:10

Congratulations @Cafeaulait27 - another fellow baby boy 🥰
Thanks @Garman and @marplemead good to know. Obv this is what happens when you google everytjing, come up with random stuff lol! I was weighed at my 12week scan and at my 14week private scan. I just try and weigh myself once a week but it’s always a bit of fluctuation as it depends on time of day, constipation, water retention etc
But thanks for your input I shall stop obsessing! Obv easier said than done haha
Have you guys started some online yoga practice Programms ? I’m thinking of registering for 3months with Lucy Flow Yoga xxx

Firevie · 01/05/2021 21:13

Sorry I forgot / do any of you use pregnancy pillows? If one, which one? Xxx

Smurf123 · 01/05/2021 21:16

@Firevie and @marplemead if your midwife gives you any useful info on the vaccine can you let us know 🙂

Congrats @Cafeaulait27

Pregnancy pillow I have the bbhugme I love it

marplemead · 01/05/2021 21:21

@Firevie Yes, I wouldn't worry unless the midwife says something. I am just using the free yoga videos on YouTube at the moment -I'm really out of practice. I used to do three sessions a week, but now struggle to even manage one. I might look into paying for a programme to keep me motivated- is the Lucy Flow one a specific pregnancy one? No rec for a pregnancy pillow I'm afraid - I'm in the market for a new one. My last one was a Kit for Kids one which was rubbish. I don't want anything too big, as get quite hot in the night. The bbhugme one is so expensive!

Firevie · 01/05/2021 21:25

@Smurf123 thanks for the pillow suggestion. I’ll check it out and of course I’ll let you know what my midwife says Re vaccine
@marplemead yes Lucy Flow is specially designed for pregnancy. I think I’ll go with the 3months subscription - that along with my 4times a week 7k walks should be sufficient.
Noted re pregnancy pillow. I’ve been wanting one but just overwhelmed by choice xxx

imisscoffee · 02/05/2021 06:53

@Pancakes7 oh no! Hope this time around PGP isn't so severe. My sciatica has been flaring up for a few weeks but touch wood, the pubic bone pain hasn't returned so hopefully it was a one off.

@Cafeaulait27 congratulations!!

I'm tracking my weight, but that's because I'm very overweight anyway and need to minimise weight gain. I haven't put any on yet and now nausea has gone I'm trying to eat less carbs and lots of fruit and vegetables. Not really following a specific diet or calorie counting, but just ensuring that I'm eating good food and getting carbs from sweet potatoes and small amounts of rice rather than the crisps and endless toast that got me through morning sickness.

Pancakes7 · 02/05/2021 07:50

@Garman You can't take antihistamine sorry. I asked about this in my first pregnancy. I was recommended a nasal spray. I actually haven't needed to use it as weirdly my hay fever sort of disappeared? It's Sterimar hay fever & allergies nasal spray as it's natural it's safe to use.

@imisscoffee Mines on and off but that's how it started last time. It would be amazing if I didn't get it.

Pancakes7 · 02/05/2021 07:51

@Firevie I've got Dreamgenii pillow from my previous pregnancy and using that again. It's not too expensive and not too big.

Firevie · 02/05/2021 08:28

@Pancakes7 thanks v much - I’ll look it up :)

Also, I’m finally getting a hair cut today - cannot wait! Do I have to worry about the smells / hairsprays and the like?! Xxx

Pancakes7 · 02/05/2021 08:34

@Firevie Well you be wearing a face mask so that should dull the smells a bit for you. I wouldn't worry too much. Maybe take some mints if you think you'll feel sick.
