@Pancakes7 I'm doing a PhD, my area of research is law but my work involves analysing how statistics are used so I quite enjoy looking at statistics in different areas!

I've just spent some time looking through what I can find on Papp-A, honestly the literature on it is a bit of a mess. Apologies I tried to attach screenshots but my Mumsnet app is being uncooperative. What I mostly found is that studies find it has little good predictive value or that certainly in levels over 0.3 (which you are) it has no good predictive value. All of the studies I've read are more concerned about

Pancakes7 · 24/04/2021 06:33

@vitaminb33 Wow phd in law! That's amazing. Well done. Thank you so much for looking at that for me. That's really helpful. It does sound like I'm at the higher threshold of low Papp-a which is at least something. At least I've got 2 scans soon at 17 and 20 weeks. So I'll ask them to check the placenta and they'll check babies size too. I think I'll book more private ones before the nhs growth scan at 36 weeks. Then at least I can keep an eye on things.

@Pancakes7 no problem at all! Yes I think getting a few extra scans as reassurance is a good plan.

Me and my partner (he's a research scientist) spent some extra time going through it last night because I wasn't sure if the Papp-A levels test was enough to justify changing my mind and getting the screening tests, because I hadn't been planning on having them (mostly because I want to avoid additional stress) and ultimately we both felt that from the current research Papp-A doesn't look like a good enough predictor that something's wrong, so I'm still opting not to get it (just as a further vote of confidence)

Pancakes7 · 24/04/2021 11:08

@vitaminb33 Thanks you that's good to hear. ❤️

Argh, I’ve been fine about my 16 week appointment today and scan tomorrow up until this morning and now my stomach is churning 😔

MrsTD88 · 26/04/2021 12:43

@PumpkinEverything what time is your appointment today?

vitaminb33 · 26/04/2021 16:14

@PumpkinEverything I hope your appointment went okay! I have my scan tomorrow too and feel terrible about it but I just keep telling myself that's normal, and it'll be over soon 🤞

imisscoffee · 26/04/2021 16:54

Good luck for scans tomorrow @vitaminb33 and @PumpkinEverything!

marplemead · 26/04/2021 19:29

@PumpkinEverything @vitaminb33 I'm anxious about my scan tomorrow too, especially after the sad news on the FB group. Mine is at 8.30am, so don't have to spend the morning waiting. 🤞🏼 for us!

PumpkinEverything · 26/04/2021 19:44

Thanks @vitaminb33 @imisscoffee

Scan is at 530 tomorrow evening after my appointment today @MrsTD88

I’m really trying to remind myself that loss is not contagious, it does not mean there’s anything wrong with me and my baby @marplemead but it’s really hard after seeing sad things. I really think it’s set off my nerves as I was completely fine all weekend and on waking up this morning 😔
I’m so glad yours is early in the morning so you can really just get up and go! I actually tried to check today whether they had anything earlier, but they’re fully booked up until 4th May!

vitaminb33 · 26/04/2021 19:47

Ours are at very similar times - good luck tomorrow @marplemead! But I'm so sorry to hear there was bad news for someone, I hope they're okay 😢

marplemead · 26/04/2021 19:52

@PumpkinEverything I feel the same. I was starting to relax, but seeing that post reminded me that loss can happen at any stage. I feel like I don't want to get too complacent, even though I know the chances of anything going wrong is so low. I'm sorry you have such a long wait tomorrow. Mine is a consultant appointment, so she won't be checking for the sex, but I'm secretly hoping she will mention it. I'll be 15+4 so probably too early?

Bellabubble · 26/04/2021 20:18

Sorry to hear someone had bad news :( 2 of my friends had 2nd trimester losses, which I think is why I have continued to be so cautious still. Pregnancy really is such an amazing feat for the body! My body has been having weird internal muscle twitches everyso often at the moment - it’s a bit weird! No pain or anything though so I guess that’s a good sign.

marplemead · 26/04/2021 20:44

Thank you @vitaminb33 I'm glad you have an early appointment too.

@Bellabubble That's sensible. A friend had a 2nd trimester loss when I was pregnant with DD, and I remember not being able to relax until 24 weeks. And I have had those twitches too. It's amazing what our bodies are doing.

Don't forget those pelvic exercises ladies. I'm trying to do them everyday as my pelvic floor already feels weak.

imisscoffee · 26/04/2021 20:59

Good luck @marplemead too, lots of scans tomorrow!

It was hard seeing that FB post. That was me a few months ago, telling my FB group amidst all the gender reveals. My heart goes out to her, it's so shit.

MrsTD88 · 26/04/2021 21:13

@vitaminb33 @marplemead @PumpkinEverything good luck to you all tomorrow. I look forward to all your updates.

The news today was so sad, it's made me very grateful for the little flutters I've been feeling. I hope you're OK @imisscoffee I immediately thought of you while reading that today. X

Pancakes7 · 26/04/2021 22:11

I was really shocked by that sad news today too. It's made me even more anxious now. My scan hasn't for over 2 weeks. I keep thinking can I try and book one for this Thursday as I'm so worried. But I know I can't have a scan every week. I feel like I need one sometimes though.

Pancakes7 · 27/04/2021 06:44

I know it's silly but I feel so so anxious now. Worrying what if somethings wrong with baby. Just reading an such a sad story has reminded me I'm not safe. I feel like trying to book a scan this week. I know DH will think I'm crazy. It's hard as at this stage before feeling movements you can't know if all is ok or not.

Firevie · 27/04/2021 06:53

Morning ladies! Good luck for your scans @marplemead and @PumpkinEverything
Fingers crossed for you both! This is the first time I have 3 weeks between my private scans and it’s nerve wracking. I’m 15+4 today. My next private scan is 13th May when I’ll be 18 weeks. Wish we all had an ultrasound at home and could keep checking. All I can go by is my baby bump that I cradle every day ❤️ Xxx

Firevie · 27/04/2021 06:54

Good luck for your scan @vitaminb33 xxx

Pancakes7 · 27/04/2021 07:00

Thanks everyone! Surprisingly I think I slept through the night mostly. Which in turn gives me anxiety as up until the night before I hadn’t slept a whole night since before my 12 week scan... 4 weeks ago. You can’t win when it comes to your mentality can you?
Barely managed to eat much yesterday so going to try to do my best today and make sure I drink enough. I see the email says to be hydrated, and have eaten a meal 1-2 hours before to help them out.
Posting this as a reminder, I’ve had to read it a few times since yesterday and really try to focus on it.

Sorry to hear others are feeling anxious too 😔
I’m feeling thankful to myself for still being cautious with who we’ve told as I already need to contact my mum, dad (they’re not together) and my mother in law, plus two best friends after the scan tonight, so feeling a bit of pressure. I know they’ll all be thinking about me though which is nice to know too.

Thanks everyone! Scan was perfect Smile The consultant wasn't my usual one, so didn't feel like I could push on the baby's sex, but I kept thinking I could see a little penis. Next scan is 20wks, and I'm happy to wait until then to find out.

Pancakes7 · 27/04/2021 09:32

@PumpkinEverything Thanks, I need to read that atm. ❤️

@marplemead yay really pleased for you!! Ah maybe a little boy :) same as me :)
Was this your scan after your 12week scan? Ie did you have a 4 week gap between the two scans? I’ve got 3 weeks between my scan now and i can’t wait to see my baby again 🥰 xxx
