LOM - X-posted! LOL @ Jezza. That's so true tho. I woke up this morning at 9.22 thinking "oooo Jezza will be on in a sec" which made me get out of bed. Oh the shame of being a Jezza addict!!!

Morning all!!

Its my due date so trying to keep busy. I was supposed to meet up with my antenatal group today but got a message to say 2 have gone into labour over night. They were due on tuesday and wednesday this week and both started contractions over night. Hope my LO gets the hint.

Another woman from antenatal had her baby on saturday. She hada 4 hour labour and was only in the delivery room for 15mins and about 10 pushes. She nearly had her little girl in the carpark. Not bad for a first baby and she was 2 weeks early.

I have my 40 week check up today so hopefully they will tell me the baby is engaged and I'm ready to go.

Things I'm scared of:
-not know what to do with LO
-being torn and sore

Things I'm looking forward to:
-taking my baby for walks in the pram
-wearing my normal clothes
-vodka and tonic with lots of lemon and ice (sigh)
-my mum coming over
-being able to put on shoes without grunting

BTW my boobs leaked loads this morning I think I've been going a bit crazy on the nip stim. At least they work!! The body is such an amazing thing.

RGPargy · 15/11/2007 11:27

Hi Fiona.

Happy Due Date! Fingers crossed that something will happen for you very soon!! Keep bouncing on the ball/DH and keep up with the nip stim lol!

OK I'm officially and .

Have just seen the midwife who announced that because I measure 43cm the midwifery are out of their comfort zone and want me to deliver in hospital. I am so p'd off (not with them but the situation) you just can't imagine.

I particularly hate that it's all based around a gamble (risk whatever, it's all still shit!).It's all about shoulder dystocia. We do big babies in my family and I KNOW that in my heart of hearts this would all be fine if we stayed at home.
The only thing that won't allow me to dig my heels in is the small chance that I am wrong and dystocia does happen and we end up losing Marnie. (which is the worst case scenario but anything is possible in this world).

Luckily DP was here today but I just wanted the MW to leave instead of hanging around being sympathetic and doing thre rest of the checks.

I know it's just my knee jerk reaction but I feel like taking my ball home and not playing anymore.

It's all wrong, if we're in hospital the only advantage is more senior bodies dealing with it, but down the line that just means fewer and fewer women having homebirths as MW's won't (don't already) have the confidence to deal with these things. It's a f**king joke that a breech baby gets you a trip to hospital!

I'm off on one aren't I, I'm sorry, I'm just so annoyed.

RGP - I know, being a first timer thought that working late would be like normal - just with huge tummy (silly girle ). wasn't prepared for overwhelming nesting feelings and hormones. I managed to keep it from them but the guys (it's a male team) all think I'm a bit of a hero!

Birth pool arrived this morning, and I had our plasterer in this morning finishing the kitchen. Next week we get the new hot water system so bubba needs to wait until it's due date so we can be ready.

Midwife has just been to visit and I am 1/5 engaged. Hopefully that doesn't mean the birth is imminent.

Off now to do more nesting, nesting, nesting..

Congrats to all the new mummies and babies

Easywriter · 15/11/2007 12:35

I've read all that stuff Loopy and there is no arguing with it (as agree the MW and consultant). The problem is that I'm still left with a MW team who claim to be uncomfortable with the situation who'd I'd have to go against.

I am tempted to.

Oh! for having whatever an IM costs available at my disposal.

Yes, I may have to look into it, but today I don't really feel up to talking to anyone, I can't manage more than a sentence or two without tears which isn't really the best way to hold a conversation about something so important.

Loopy, I'm with you on this one - think I'm due same day as you and just want to meet my LO now. Can't bear the thought of another 4 weeks if this LO decided to go over.... Come on baby!!!!

revelyell · 15/11/2007 13:23

oh Easy, what a blow for you. its horrible when you have to consider taking a stand against medical opinion, its such a scary move to take but so awkward when all your instincts are telling you theyre wrong! good luck with this one.. oh and im with you on the frustration that if you dont make a stand, MWs get more and more unskilled... its part of this hugely risk-averse society we live in, but who's willing to make a stand with their baby?! its impossible. if only we all had a cloned Ina May on speed dial..

thanks for the sympathy RG! might try and snooze this arvo ot make up for my complete loss of a night. the pains have continued tho and now im wondering if this is what early labour feels like.. im getting regular twinges that make me catch my breath, irregularly, but for the past hour they were coming pretty much every 5 minutes. BUT they only last a few seconds each, so that cant be a contraction can it??! someone help a poor clueless first timer!..

thelady · 15/11/2007 13:25

revelyell: phone your mw/labour ward whatever if you want reassurance. Mine tells me (another clueless 1st-timer) that they can usually tell from how you speak/can't speak whether it's worth your coming in or not.

sparklygothkat · 15/11/2007 13:26

Hi all, Callum has a cold and a temp. today Can't give him Calpol, he is too young. He is struggling to feed with his nose all bunged up, so am topping up more than normal.

LK2boyzma · 15/11/2007 14:48

Hi all,

Since my bouncing on tues, I have had this back pain that won't go away. I've woken up sweating and thought ooooo my waters have gone, had baby dreams but keep waking up with nothing! Am I the only one feeling peed off with this experience of thinking 'this is it' only to find the 'it' fizzling out to be nothing,

My DS has joined inthe baby stalking more than me, every time we go out, he goes out of his way to see what's in any mum's buggy, then you see a smile on his face!

LOM- I am so looking forward to breastfeeding! I quite enjoy it and I do not remember having any difficulties last time other than DC not being able to finish all the milk.

Bunny- Hi How on earth have you managed to stay at work this long? I finished at 34 wks and I was so exhausted.

JARM · 15/11/2007 15:23

Afternoon girls... bit late checking in today but am very hormotional and had a very bad night so spent the morning in bed and then went to mothercare for a smooch about! (well actually went to get my nappy bucket!)

LK2 - LOL at DS what a cutie! DH is just happy he doesn't have to haul me out of bed an more at 6am, and I don't miss the 3hr tube commute each morning. Would defnitely finish a lot earlier should more DCs follow!

capecodder · 15/11/2007 16:56

quick question- how many god parents are you 'allowed' or is customary?

I've heard that if you're having a girl it's one godfather but you can choose up to 3 godmothers in the Uk- is that true?

In the US I've only heard of choosing one each but would love the chance to be a bit greedy.

JARM · 15/11/2007 17:26

I think you can have as many as you want Cape!

We only have one of each (my brother and SIL) for both the girls and will be the same for this baby when he is born.

I was adament that if my kids were to be Christened, then their god-parents had to be church-goers, and the only church goes we know (other than us) are my brother and SIL!

revelyell · 15/11/2007 17:36

just thought id pop in to let you know that general consensus is that this is early labour that im feeling... that i thought they were baby fighting for room with my intestines!!
ive been generally warned though that this could continue for a few days so im trying not to get too excited... will keep you posted..and go and dig out some clary sage oil i think..
