Old thread here.

OP posts:

Soph73 · 22/10/2007 16:26

lemonaid - I never thought I got the nesting instinct either but DH said I did. I was probably trying to keep out of MIL's way I love her really.

ToastAddict · 22/10/2007 16:37

soph - really pleased to hear about your scan

Thanks for advice re: mat leave girls. I think I was quite happy at the thought of 5 or 6 weeks off before the birth, but my dh keeps saying "but what will you do? Your brain will turn to mush! And you won't be able to do anything as you'll be the size of an elephant!"

He does seem to think I am going to be absolutely enormous! I'm not sure if he's ever actually seen any near-term women, or if he thinks they are all safely confined to hospital from week 34!!

We'll see.....

Elfsmummy · 22/10/2007 16:59

Hi toastaddict, I've just noticed that you and I are both Nottingham. Are you booked at QMc or Nottingham City. I'm QMC.

ToastAddict · 22/10/2007 17:05

Hi Elfsmummy - I'm QMC too!
First baby for me - did you have your DD there?

Elfsmummy · 22/10/2007 17:17

No we just moved here about 3 months ago. Was in Leicester until then and had DD there.

Chose QMC as its marginally closer and also my friend had her baby there and it was ok!!!

I guess our paths may cross, especially if I go as late as last time. I was induced at term plus 10 days!

Denny185 · 22/10/2007 17:36

TLSM so glad everything is ok. As you said you kind of get to this stage and assume all will be ok,so things like that a bit of a shock.

Im 16/40 tom and feeling v jealous of all of those feeling lots of movement, ive had the odd flutter but not much. Bump is starting to get much firmer though.

As for mat leave, I think this will be another section so will stop at 37 weeks hopefully. Managed 38 with DD she was section 39 weeks for breech but stopped at 35 for DS I was knackered from carrying an extra 5 1/2 stone. So may have to amend plans nearer the time if i put that much on again.

Sheds75 · 23/10/2007 08:24

Morning All,

Great News TLSM, and you too Soph.

I'm pleased that everyones seems to be thinking along the same lines as me onthe Mat leave. My EDD is 2nd April and was planning on starting 10th March. We are about to move in the next month so, I'm guessing that by March there will still be things that need sorting out

Sheds75 · 23/10/2007 09:08

on a completely seperate note, I've started looking at prams etc... and would like a 3 - wheeler (due to where we live) travel system. Does anyone have any suggestions on good brands etc..??

EllieG · 23/10/2007 09:36

Fab news tlsm!
Welcome mama2peanut x
Hello everyone else

I have already got a 3 wheeler travel system thing - bought it last time from a friend so was dead cheap, is a mothercare urban extreme thing, and quite good I think. Am going to get as much as can second hand as very skint!

EllieG · 23/10/2007 09:48

I WANT TO FEEL THE BABY MOVE! Am getting cross. I poked it this morning to see if could, but then worried I might have broken it.

Ellie -- I didn't feel anything until about 22/23 weeks with DS. It's still early, really. This time round I'm in the "occasionally getting a bubbly feeling that I think may be the baby" camp.

jaq39 · 23/10/2007 10:38

I havent felt baby move yet either - trying not to get myself into a blind panic like I did last time, regularly keep telling myself to be patient!

Has anyone else done this, I lie on the couch, put tv off, (cos I figure if its quiet I will feel baby move) and will him to move!! while poking at my tummy!! x

Lorayn · 23/10/2007 10:42

tbh, the reason I want everyone else to feel babay as much as I am is because it is so early, I know its my third and tey say you feel it earlier each time but I'm only 16weeks

ToastAddict · 23/10/2007 10:46

Ellie - lol at you "breaking the baby"!!

Last night, after reading all the posts on here about some of you feeling the baby move, I did exactly the same as you, jaq39

When I was lying in bed, all was peaceful and I kept really really still, hand on tummy and tried so hard to feel it. Nothing. So I prodded it a bit. And then had to get up to go the the loo as my bladder complained. Back to bed, lay very quietly, waited patiently for baby to kick me. Waited and waited. And fell asleep as I was so tired.

Everything I read (except for on here) says I shouldn't expect to feel it til at least 20 weeks, so I'm not worried, just very of people who are already feeling it.

jaq39 · 23/10/2007 10:59

Toastaddict, once you fell asleep baby was probably doing cartwheels! x

ToastAddict · 23/10/2007 11:07

Oh, I know

Probably kicking me, saying "Oi, wake up"!!!

EllieG · 23/10/2007 11:14

lorayn, I think it's quite common to feel it move early if you've already had one. I'm just being impatient.
jac - I did exactly the same last night - turned tv off and made DP be really quiet! He thought I was bonkers. I probably am

Soph73 · 23/10/2007 11:16

Morning all.
LOL at ellieg Hello to jaq39
I was looking at prams this weekend as well, would really like a red three-wheeler but might have to do a lot of persuading as DH doesn´t like them

Lorayn · 23/10/2007 11:19

For those of you desperate to feel it move, if DP puts his head on my stomach, where baby is, (can you all feel baby??) then baby moves out of the way of his head, incase you want4ed to try it, lol.

jaq39 · 23/10/2007 11:20

My DS will be 18mths when LO comes along, I thought I might just use his pram for new baby but thinking about it I might have to buy a double, wots a good one, any suggestions x

jaq39 · 23/10/2007 11:23

Sorry he will be 20 mths! (pregnancy brain)

Denny185 · 23/10/2007 12:26

Hi Jac39, my DS will be 19 months when this buncle arrives and having the same dilema, Ive just started looking at a few and i dont know if weve got a really narrow front door but alot of them are just not going to fit through. Also a lot of the foot paths around us a narrow and wouldnt accomodate a side by side so i think were stuck with a tandem, Im thinking the jane powertwin (for off road aswell)its supposed to be quite light to push. A trip to john lewis after xmas for trials may be in order.

Lorayn · 23/10/2007 12:36

At 20months my ds was walking pretty much everywhere as long as it wasnt too long a journey, so maybe get a cheap secondhand double buggy for times you cant do without and a buggy board for when you possibly could???

sagitta · 23/10/2007 12:39

Hi everyone. Glad your apointmennts went well, Soph and TLSM, and welcome, Jaq.

Loistella: About nurseries, I couldn't believe that everyone had put their names down for a place while still pregnant - but I wish I had done..I can recommend a great one in Tufnell Park/ Holloway is that suits you at all...don't know where you are.

I'm panicking about maternity leave as I'm self-employed contractor, and I've got a job due to finish at the start of May - which I really need to do financially. Can I gamble on LO being late? Last time I finished work on my due date, and gave myself a month off - dd was two weeks late which meant I had to start working when she was two weeks old. What a disaster!
