Hello, I am back, I couldn't stay away for long.

Congrats to all on your scans.

Daftmoo, your doctor sounds daft!

Thanks for your nice messages. I just got a call from the hospital and the blood test results indicated that the risk is now 1 in 230. I have an amnio booked for the end of Oct but will probably cancel.

I just panicked last week. I have been looking into it and I now realise that there is a lot worse than the baby having Down Syndrome. I also didn't realise until I read Thomcat and Eidsvold's messages that the phrase "ds child" was offensive so I really apologise if I offended anyone.

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 09/10/2007 11:22

I get the feeling I'm going to be the same again this time soph. Only 14 weeks and am already huge, thing is, I lost about a stone at the beginning due to the HG (still not able to keep everything down although am finally eating dinner most nights.)
I look massive though, one of the mums at DD's school couldnt believe that I was only 14 weeks, but thankfully she reassured me saying 'you're all baby though arent you' I took that as your arms and legs arent huge so it must be the pregnancy

vacaloca · 09/10/2007 11:23

Daftmoo, I can't believe your GP! Are there no more GPs in the same practice so you can change to a different one but still keep your midwife? Or insist you only see your mw and not your GP. She sounds incredibly old fashioned - most mw don't even weigh you anymore! I had DD2 in Spain and had this horrendous obstetrician who was obsessed about weight - it was the only thing she ever spoke to me about. I went to see her to get the results of the anomaly scan and instead of talking about that, she gave me a lecture on how much weight I was putting on and whether I thought my husband would find me attractive after giving birth. I nearly punched her. Luckily I moved and never had to see her again.

Sorry I don't post more often, everyone, but I still try and read most days. I'm 15 weeks today and thought I should be over the extreme exhaustion by now, but it seems to get worse. Most evenings I'm watching the clock to see when it's a reasonable time to go to bed! I used to go to bed at midnight and these days I'm lucky if I can make it to 10pm.

I've got my 2nd mw appointment tomorrow, which I'm looking forward to because she's a lovely mw and hopefully I'll be able to hear the baby's hb for the first time. Then I have a consultant appointment on Thursday, which I'm not looking forward to as I'm planning a vba2c and I know what they'll be saying to me.

Sorry for the long post. I've updated the list with more of my details:

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 09/10/2007 11:27

smcg, I doubt anyone was offended about you being worried for your unborn child, wording something wrong isnt a crime, how are you to know unless someone tells you??

I hope your child doesnt have DS but I agree there is a lot worse that could happen.

Good Luck and Welcome Back.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 09/10/2007 11:28

CeylonSapphire, Lemonaid what a very small world it is i work in hampton Wick and went to Kingston EPU at the beginning of my PG as had some problems but because I live in Leatherhead I cant go there to have my bud I have to go to Epsom!

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 09/10/2007 11:30

vacaloca, it is understandable to still be shattered, you know between weeks 14 and 16 the baby goes from weighing about an ounce to weighing about 5 ounces???
Thats a lot of growth!!!

Daftmoo · 09/10/2007 11:36

It's really good to see you back smcg vacaloca my gp is a one woman band, there used to be two and it was the other I registered with, but she left probably because she couldnt stand the other one

loisstella · 09/10/2007 11:39

SMCG - so glad you're back!!!!!!!

Soph73 · 09/10/2007 11:45

Yes, welcome back smcg
Lorayn - everyone keeps saying to me "are you sure there aren´t 2 in there." Fortunately I know there´s only 1 in there as I´ve got the scan to prove it ... although the other one could be hiding I suppose The thing is I look ginormous but apparently (last week anyway) I´ve only put on 500 gms!

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 09/10/2007 11:46

Was it a boy last time you were huge soph?? I know its an old wives tale but I really was only huge with DS, not with DD

Soph73 · 09/10/2007 11:53

Yes I had a boy last time, but didn´t get huge until about the 20wk mark. Everyone keeps saying though that this one must be a girl because I´m huge already. I do have to say though that I was larger when I conceived this one than when I conceived DS but even so .....

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 09/10/2007 12:02

When I was pregnant with DS there were about 6/7 of us in my friendship group that were pretgnant, all the girls had little bumps and big bums, yet the boys were huge. Might just be coincedence.

I keep thinking this one is going to be a girl, but then think it's just that I want a girl and really it's a boy. Arghh, only another 5 and a bit months of guessing

smcg · 09/10/2007 12:16

Thanks

Hi Loistella, did you buy a Coach changing bag in NY? I am tempted to buy one on Ebay but it is probably fake. I feel like shopping!

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 09/10/2007 12:39

SMCG I KNOW you won't have offended anyone, as a regular on the SN threads. We long ago agreed that we understand the shock of the results, and also we always try to read the intention behind every post- we tend to point it out simply becasue if we don't, how will poeple know? FWIW I got told off for calling my 2 'asd kids' last week- I shall refer to my boys how I damned well like, thank you () LOL- hardly affects how I love them, does it.

Daftmoo WW doesn't acept pg women. I ahve heard slimming world does on a strictly healthwise absis, but a recommendation to join WW was worthless and futile. I lost laods of weight AFTER ds3 with WW, but not in preg

Am of peole getting comments about big bumps- people keep saying the opposite to me, despite most of them being aware I have a history of amsll abbies so it makes me paranoid and worried! I will know tomorrow though, as I know date of conception A Dh on permanent nights ahs that effect....) so if they try changing dates as they did with ds1, I shall ignore and just know its a tiddler again.

smcg · 09/10/2007 13:06

Thanks Peachy.
Enjoy your scan!

loisstella · 09/10/2007 13:35

SMCG I didn't buy one - but DH is going back in March so will get him to bring one back (shall I order one for you too?)
Thanks for the Pea in the pod tip.. we went and I bought loads of stuff. Loved thta staff and the fact that they have a bump in the dressing room to see what the clothes look like in 3 months!
Wearing my new cardi today and feeling very preggers!

Mollyfloss · 09/10/2007 13:37

Hi everyone,

I haven't been around for w hile and just caught up with all your latest news. There has been a lot going on. Congrats to everyone on their scans! I don't have much to report since my happy scan last week. We have happily been telling everyone since then. My ms has more or less gone but I have terrible congested sinuses, much worse at night than during the day. Obviosuly gets worse when I lie down and depends on which side I am lying on - it will go to the same side of the nose. Has anyone else got this?

As I said my ms is more or less gone but I get these freak bouts of nausea from time to time that don't last long. A while ago I ate a banana and about 5 mins later did not feel good, then a minutre later was throwing up. Has anyone else had this?

EllieG · 09/10/2007 14:13

Hey all! Had scan today and elliebean was fine! I saw him/her moving little arms and legs and the heartbeat was really strong and it was wriggling all over the place! Am so happy
New due date is 17th April too, which is nice, so have updated list

Welcome back smcg

daftmoo - your GP sounds crap. Don't listen, you look lovely. I've put on 6 pounds and the mw said it was fine and jsut to be sensible.

WOOHOO Ellie!

CeylonSapphire · 09/10/2007 14:20

Mollyfloss - I too am suffering from a stuffed up nose, which is worse at night (at least dh tells me so when he wakes me up for snoring ) According to the pregnancy book I've got this is because the blood vessels in your nose are enlarged (or something) and that basically once you've got it, you're stuck with it til baby comes out... We might have to do separate rooms soon, to give us both a good night's sleep

smcg · 09/10/2007 14:24

Loistella, you are very kind to offer but I can probably persuade my cousin to bring me back the bag at Christmas time. They are pretty expensive even with the exchange rate though and I bet they get messed up! Glad you like PITP, I wish they delivered here.

smcg · 09/10/2007 14:24

Great news EllieG!

Soph73 · 09/10/2007 15:05

Fantastic Ellie
I also get (what I believe is called) pregnant rhinitus & it´s my way of getting my own back on DH It does go away after baby is born because I had exactly the same thing with DS.

lemonaid · 09/10/2007 15:05

smcg, I doubt anyone was offended. You were being remarkably rational and level-headed under the circumstances. If you're 35 like me I think 1 in 230 is back to the "average for your age" odds -- so odds no better or worse for having had the scan and blood tests (just a lot more stressed).

Congratulations Ellie (and any other recent scanees I may have missed).

I'm now re-entering the Paranoid Zone. I find that (until I can feel the baby move) I'm fine for about two weeks after a scan, then the fear that something has gone wrong sets in... Next scan not until 19 Nov, but I'm hoping to feel something before that and reassure myself (didn't feel anything until 22/23 weeks last time, though, so I'm not holding my breath).

I bought an expensive Hennabecca changing bag last time and after the first couple of months ended up using a cheap backpack my mother picked up in a French hypermarket instead ... The Hennabecca bag was (and is) lovely, mind you, I think I just do better with backpacks.
