Ooh yes sorry, same eprson LOL

seasonal anme changes the sign of a MN oldie LOL!

And as someone invovled in ths omerset carnivals, and therfore often sees Chrsitmas celebration themes in September, it doesn't feel too early

Have found a lovely aldy who I know on MN who may well be my Doula! - feleing a lot mroe positive now!

smcg · 11/10/2007 12:13

Chipmonkey, that's funny about the Rotunda, I hadn't heard that.

Molly, my friend's husband dashed to the airport as soon as he got the call to say she was in labour and met her at the hospital. He arrived in the nick of time!

Ellie, I had to stop reading the pregnancy books (well, the last few chapters!) as they were freaking me out. Now I just get the babycenter updates each week.

Piccalilli2 · 11/10/2007 12:55

I'm trying not to think about the whole giving birth process as I remember all too clearly just how much it hurt the first time round (sorry to all you first-timers, but it does). HOwever, I also remember clearly the feeling of pure joy when I held dd for the first time (oh, and the indescribable relief of the epidural taking effect!) so it'll all be worth it in the end.

lemonaid · 11/10/2007 13:21

I can remember that I don't really remember, IYSWIM, so I'm not worried -- whatever happens (unless it's something indescribably traumatic) it's likely to have faded within a month or two.

I mean, I can remember the facts about DS's birth in principle, but I was in hospital for around 40 hours before he arrived and if I added together all the bits of that time that I can actually recall properly it must add up to a total of an hour or so and they are all the banal or random bits rather than anything painful (except for getting a canula put in my hand silly that among all the labour and delivery stuff that's the one bit I can remember quite clearly as bloody well hurting).

I remember looking at DH and thinking "that´s definitely the last time you´re coming near me" Obviously that threat didn´t last long

EllieG · 11/10/2007 13:22

It'd better be! It' just one day I suppose.....

Soph73 · 11/10/2007 13:24

lemonaid - you´re right there. I had a trainee midwife try & put a needle into my wrist (just above my thumb joint). One of the most painful experiences ever, fortunately a trained midwife shooed her away before I murdered her!

bunyanvillas · 11/10/2007 13:34

Ohhhh .. is anyone else feeling v light-headed? (swoon)

Redmonster · 11/10/2007 14:37

I am not too light headed, but have had a light headache for a couple of weeks now. Is anyone else getting that? It feels like a sinus headache.

bunyanvillas · 11/10/2007 14:41

Hmm no headache so far! Is anyone in their maternity gear yet?

Soph73 · 11/10/2007 14:41

Well I´m winding down now as it´s a public holiday tomorrow so no school - yippee Think I´ll have a mooch around the shops. Just found out that another member of staff is 9.5 wks pregnant so there was definitely something in the water over the summer hols I bet the Headmaster´s really pleased

Soph73 · 11/10/2007 14:46

bunyanvillas - have been wearing proper maternity gear for a week now & feel so much better for it I´m sure that´s also why I´m looking so much bigger. Not light-headed though. Have been wondering how I´m going to reach my desk if my bump keeps growing at this rate!!!!

Redmonster · 11/10/2007 14:53

I bought a pair of maternity jeans a few weeks ago and have been wearing them to supplement my wardrobe...I only have 2 pairs of trousers left that will button up. I guess maternity shopping will soon be on the cards for me

lemonaid · 11/10/2007 15:07

I'm OK on stuff in general, but I only have one pair of work trousers that still fit -- I bought some maternity trousers from eBay but the postal strike has held them up.

I hadn't really thought about the labour bit till I read this - and from what I remember, Soph and lemonaid are right - the very worst bit was putting the needle thing in my hand. And they left it there for hours.
The second worse thing was having a baby next to me (mine, in fact) cry and cry and cry while all I wanted to do was sleep...

sagitta · 11/10/2007 15:21

sorry - didn't spot that you'd moved on to maternity wear...

bunyanvillas · 11/10/2007 15:25

omg - had forgotten about the needle in hand thing! Tis true!!! Food wasn't great either Top tip - bring in your own supplies! What else was bad - oh yes, dd arriving 3.5 weeks early and took me by surprise so no time for a leg-wax - the shame!!!

Soph73 · 11/10/2007 15:54

Food was great here so hope their standards haven´t slipped . sagitta - I also went into complete shock & kept thinking "oh my god now I´ve got to take him home ... forever"

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 11/10/2007 16:03

STOP NOW!!!
SHHHHH!!!!

Remember how soft and gentle it all was?? How nice and calm, how beautiful and lovely??

sagitta · 11/10/2007 16:25

I suppose the epidural was beautiful and lovely after it kicked in

WindUpBird · 11/10/2007 16:27

I remember really looking forward to the birth last time , I just wanted to see if I could do it. This time I'm going to try learning hypnobirthing to see if it makes the whole process a little less painful. Is anyone else thinking of doing classes or listening to the cds? My mum thinks I'm a weirdo, she says 'It's just mind over matter.' didn't entirely work for me last time so I thought what could be the harm in trying hypnobirthing?

And yes, I remember that feeling of 'omg, I've got this completely dependent baby to look after. What about me, I've had no sleep for 3 days?!!'

Anyway, birth is a long way away, I'm still firmly stuck in the first trimester...

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 11/10/2007 16:28

lol with me it was the ep that really hurt the guy couldnt get the neddle in right so tried what felt like 100 times! I had a back ache for about a week and a bruise the size of a dinner plate I was induced which I really hope doesnt happen this time! am going for gas and air and grinning and baring it

Piccalilli2 · 11/10/2007 16:35

I remember that feeling of 'but what about meee? Who's going to look after me?' really clearly as well. It was bizarrely shocking that after going through all that they expected me to look after a newborn as well.

Maternity clothes: I have been wearing them for several weeks as nothing else will do up.

Redmonster: I've been getting really bad headaches for a couple of weeks now - they start at the base of my skull then spread all over. I had the same with dd til about 16 weeks so I'm hoping they'll get better soon.

Soph73 · 11/10/2007 16:35

at everyone. Of course it´ll be lovely & gorgeous Lorayn, why do you think we´re all doing it again ... nutters the lot of us Well, am off in a minute so enjoy your weekends everyone & look forward to catching up with you on Monday.

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 11/10/2007 16:43

I've done the epidural thingy for my 2nd cs, so I know what that feels like, but tbh, actually being able to move and see/feel my baby come out would be so great compared to laying on that bloody bed, slanted like youre gonna fall off and seeing the reflection of your cut open stomach in the theatre lights. Ugh.
