Bugs in her cot Peachy?! Good lord! How horrendous! One of my mates got a superbug in an nhs hosp and nearly died. Nuff said I think.
Mollyfloss that's great you are getting insurance to cover part of it. our bupa on covers emergency c-sections. Still it's totally worth it I reckon.

Still can't believe she had bugs in her cot!

Mollyfloss · 10/10/2007 17:15

I would have gone private covered or not - I'm just not half as well informed as some of you ladies on this thread, but the more I read the more I learn!

chipmonkeyPumpkinNorks · 10/10/2007 17:33

are you from Ireland, Molly?

Mollyfloss · 10/10/2007 17:42

Yep, from Dublin, living now in London and lived in Paris for a few years before that.

WindUpBird · 10/10/2007 18:48

Good news on the scan Peachy, I hope you're able to persuade them that a homebirth is the best option for you.

PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs · 10/10/2007 19:19

Turns out I dnot need to persuade, they have to come whatever. Am trying to find a local Doula so i wouldnt have to do a hospital transfer alone, but there is no medical reason why I cant ahev one- my GP midwife agrees- and so unless something happens I will be

And if something meical happens I will quite happily trot off for appropriate care.

Only 4 weeks til the next scan now . MW referred to the baby as He but not sure if thats just her way or not. Will know in under a month I guess!

smcg · 10/10/2007 19:21

I'm from Dublin too Molly. I considered going back to have the baby in the Rotunda, mainly because I was born there!

smcg · 10/10/2007 19:33

That's great Peachy.

LoRayningNewtsAndFrogs · 10/10/2007 20:08

Yay peachy, we will all get the births we want, or esle!!
Grrrrrrrr, the april 2008 thread is not a thread to be reckoned with

Mollyfloss · 10/10/2007 20:20

Yep, I wouldn't mind my kids being born in Holles street where I was born but I think it would be a bit complicated to go back and forth! I'm going to Dublin tomorrow actually. I have friends who have recently had babies (it's seems like there's a baby boom right now) and they all had very positive experiences. Granted many of them went private but at least going private is not as expensive as over here!

Peachy - A friend of mine just had a home birth (NHS) 6 weeks ago. It's not for me but she had a brilliant experience and would highly recommend it even though she did have to go into hospital a couple of hours later for the placenta. She has no regrets at all. She had 2 midwives there with her and a doula she hired. She also had a birthing pool and used it for a while during labour but ended up having the baby on the living room floor!

smcg · 10/10/2007 20:56

My friend had all her prenatal care in London, went once to meet her consultant in Dublin and then moved back to Dublin when her maternity leave started and had the baby there.

Mollyfloss · 10/10/2007 21:00

Wow! was her husband/partner able to be there with her?

chipmonkeyPumpkinNorks · 10/10/2007 21:14

actually, Molly, I'm also on an Irish site, Rollercoaster.ie and some of the girls due in April there got notification that the Merrion Wing in Holles St is going to close for refurbishment for a few weeks in March/April. So probably not the best time for an April mum-to-be. They should be finished by the time I get there, unless I go as early as I did on ds3 ( 32 weeks!)
smcg the Rotunda got the highest satisfaction rate of all the Dublin Maternity hospitals last year! Having said that, they have had to put some antenatal patients into hotel rooms as they had no space for them in the hospital itself. Women who needed daily tests but didn't need to be kept in.
Funny, I went to Holles St because my Mum had most of her babies there, though not me! I'm going back for this baby because I really trust my consultant but have to say, when I was hospitalised beforehand the antenatal ward was like a war-zone! At one point, I was bleeding heavily and had to shout for attention because I was ignored when I rang the bell. The attending nurse shouted at the woman she thought had rung the bell "I told you, I'm getting you that injection!" I was utterly horrified!

EllieG · 10/10/2007 21:59

I went to ante-natal aqua areobics tonight for the first time! (Wouldn't start til after the scan as tempting fate). Was so nice to be bobbing around and doing some exercise that didn't make me feel crappy am feeling lovely now. And am starting ante-natal yoga on sat too. And have bought some maternity trousers! Am very excited about everything today, sorry for wittering.

chipmonkeyPumpkinNorks · 10/10/2007 22:24

at Ellie! If I went into a pool now I'd puke in it! Deffo wouldn't be invited back!

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 11/10/2007 08:44

peachy so glad all is turning out right

It seems all the ante-natal classes near me are in the middle of the day so no good to man nor beast

Soph73 · 11/10/2007 10:07

Morning - nice to hear you´re getting what you want Peachy As we don´t get a choice here (& I deffo couldn´t afford to go private) I don´t have to worry about it & as I´m naturally bone idle that´s fine by me

EllieG · 11/10/2007 10:22

Read my pregnancy book last night and completely freaked myself out about giving birth - there were all these scary looking pictures! Oh god is going to be soooo painful and I don't want to do it!

bunyanvillas · 11/10/2007 10:34

Ellie, try not to freak! The way I looked at it first-time round was that it is just "one day in my life" - and it is all so worth it in the end. I'm coming back for a second time so it can't be that bad Are you going to do some NCT classes?

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 11/10/2007 10:35

I am hoping that this bud is the same as my DS as his head when born was below the 9th cent thus it only took me one huge push to get his head out then one for the body and i didnt even get an urge to push i had just had enough so when she said i was 10cm i though god lets get this over with!

loisstella · 11/10/2007 10:38

sorry...odd question maybe...
Are Peachy and PeachyFleshCrawlingWithBugs the same person????

Soph73 · 11/10/2007 10:41

Things are changing though little by little - DH can now be with me while I have my scans which they didn´t used to allow, that´s why we had private scans with DS.

Soph73 · 11/10/2007 10:42

loisstella - yes, I believe so.

lemonaid · 11/10/2007 10:43

Yes, it's a Halloween name (a fair percentage of Mumsnetters change names for special occasions, the idea being to choose something seasonal but that bears enough relation to your normal posting name for people to know who you are). bunyanvillas was hauntedvillas last year, for example.

I have mine lined up, but it's a bit early... (there is also a recurring good-humoured spat between those who want to try out Halloween names from 1 October and Christmas names from the start of November and those who favour a more restrained approach. Also those who think the whole idea is just silly)
